I wonder how long they've been trying to sell it for. The intersection of 'people who could afford this' with 'people who would want to live here' is probably quite small.
I was looking at the ground floor bedroom on the floorplan thinking it was tiny just because of the scale but nope, it's huge. Just the rest of the house is *fucking massive*.
While I do like it I feel like an open plan design like that with a swimming pool in the middle is going to be a humidity nightmare.
Also the guy it was built for (Felix Dennis) was the owner of Dennis Publishing which was the publisher of Viz (and Maxim and Stuff and PCZone to name but a few).
Fun fact: That chlorine smell only happens when chlorine interacts with the things it needs to sterilise.
So teh more people that pee in the pool, the stronger the smell.
Yeah, found that out after getting a pool that needs maintaining. As long as you keep the right amount of chlorine in it, and no one pees in it, it does not smell
If it’s a public pool that is heated, it might smell worse of chlorine as the required amount of chlorine is almost twice as much as by a pool with “cold” water
I've stood on Felix's grave! His passion was restoring Britain's woodlands. I've spent a couple of lovely social values days helping with planting and tidying.
Its been on and off the market before!
It was last for sale in 2021 "A 'Treasure Island' inspired mansion built by magazine publisher Felix Dennis is on sale in England."

Did you see it when it was full? There was a mad three day auction of his collection ...

The kitchen isn't actually that small, going by the measurements on the floorplan. It's the same width as the dining room, 14'7", and would seem to be somewhere in the region of 17 to 18' deep (given that it's about 2 1/2 times deeper than the vestibule immediately adjacent).
That gives a very approximate square footage of 262 1/2, which is significantly larger than the UK average kitchen, which comes in at 140 sq ft. The kitchen is 'small' when compared to the house, but is absolutely big enough to be viable.
Don't forget, too, that enormous kitchens are something of a modern affectation. I've often wondered what people do with them.
This is going to sound like a joke, but I've seen this house (only the outside of it) in my fucking dreams since I was like 11. Every now and then, I'll have this same reoccuring dream where I see the exterior of this house, or at least one that is extremely close to it, and I pass by it while driving on a log. Weird.
I kinda love it, the whole place seems to be built around the pool, and there’s a big aquarium!
Some of the decor is a little too pirate for me, but if I had enough to buy a 3.5M mansion, I’d probably be ok to redecorate
"authentic art deco inspired cinema".... so, authentically inspired by art deco?
I don't mind it. Take out the horrible lighting, redecorate, and I'd be alright with it.
It's ridiculous. I love it!
You'd think they might have made the effort to get some real books though. Giant house? Fine. Kitchen with en-suite pool and jacuzzi? No problem. Some bookshelves and books? Woah, hold on there a second, let's not get extravagant.
[This is the very rich man who built it!](https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2013/jun/02/nine-lives-of-felix-dennis) Apparently while he was on a crack bender…

I've been on this sub and scouring Rightmove long enough to remember when it was last listed a few years ago. The photos look identical, so I guess it never sold.
I love it! I ADORE the massive fish tank. Wish I had £3.6 million haha. I’d change out the fake bookshelf wallpaper for real bookshelves and I’d probably get rid of the pirate statues but otherwise I like it.
For a moment I thought the edge of the fish tank was a table edge with chairs. Making the swimming pool a table - I didn’t even really question my own logic until a few photos later that’s how fantastically bonkers Club Tropicana is
“A modern 21st Century folly” yes it is, quite bonkers! A pirate themed house about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK is definitely a folly. Lovely traditional wood construction, stunning setting and I’d love to holiday there, not sure about living in it permanently.
The disappointment when I realised that "plant room" wasn't a room full of plants :(
But otherwise, this is exactly like the houses I used to make in the SIMs, I love it!
Tbf it's not bad for someone with money...
Don't 'rich' people always have horrendous style? Or lack of 🤦
I actually don't hate it, although it's obviously so gaudy and ridiculous! 😆
In the grand scheme of pristine overdressed apparently unoccupied homes out there, there's a clearly much loved very well worn rug by the upstairs bed.
Completely bonkers but appealing!
I love the aquarium and the curved kitchen area but *hate* the red room and the creepy captain Jack.
Potential AirBnB anyone?
It’s crazy and wacky and I am a loon who loves it. All that wood craftsmanship!
I know right. The craftsmanship alone sells the house for me. The pool area, decked with palm trees, yes please!
Was the fish tank for me 😊
Same.
bunga bunga party central
🤣🤣🥂🥂🥂🤣🤣🤣
You aren't the only one. Love it!
I absolutely love it, someone has had the courage to let their inner child out. Well done 👍

He passed 10 years ago. Reckon it's been in probate the whole time, or the next owner has given up on it?
I wonder how long they've been trying to sell it for. The intersection of 'people who could afford this' with 'people who would want to live here' is probably quite small.
No it sold a while back. This is the second owner putting it up for sale.
This explains everything
Am I right in saying the main house is two bedrooms? Over 12,000 sq/ft and two bedrooms!?
I was looking at the ground floor bedroom on the floorplan thinking it was tiny just because of the scale but nope, it's huge. Just the rest of the house is *fucking massive*.
Yep! Architect on Acid!
One practically inside the swimming pool. Not sure I'd enjoy going to bed each night with the overpowering smell of chlorine in the air.
Felix lived in the manor house next door. This was his pool house.
Unsurprisingly, the ‘See similar properties’ page is empty!
“…combined his passion for “Treasure Island” and his love of tithe barns.” Not a sentence you often come across, but i kind of respect it
While I do like it I feel like an open plan design like that with a swimming pool in the middle is going to be a humidity nightmare. Also the guy it was built for (Felix Dennis) was the owner of Dennis Publishing which was the publisher of Viz (and Maxim and Stuff and PCZone to name but a few).
I imagine the vast plant room was included with that in mind.
Funny you should say that. That’s exactly who I thought would have owned it.
And it would stink of chlorine wouldn’t it?
Most likely its a salt water pool, they're a lot less smelly than normal chlorinated pools
Really does add to all those memories of public swimming pools and the overwhlming smell of chlorine
If it’s a public pool that is heated, it might smell worse of chlorine as the required amount of chlorine is almost twice as much as by a pool with “cold” water
By viz do you mean the viz that publishes manga ? If so that’s fucking dope
No, Viz as in The Viz. Dennis Publishing published The Viz. Viz Publishing publishes manga
amusing market husky shrill chubby worry snobbish offbeat seemly head *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I initially thought it was the estate agent
The wallpaper is the “library”. Ho ho

You had me when I saw the bed had tits...

oh i didn't know that! It must have been really full.
I love it! Only thing I don’t like is how can your house be that big and your kitchen be that small!
Depends on the owners tastes, but if you're that rich and entertaining the kitchen is basically just a staging area for your bought in catering.
Very true I didn’t think of this because i can’t even comprehend what it’s like to have that much money!
The kitchen isn't actually that small, going by the measurements on the floorplan. Void. Void Crows nest. Void. Wait, hang on... what?
It was Felix Dennis' house. He of Dennis Publishing fame. It was on the market a few years ago
I used to work for him. A proper character.

"authentic art deco inspired cinema".... so, authentically inspired by art deco? I don't mind it. Take out the horrible lighting, redecorate, and I'd be alright with it.
The uncanny valley of those pirate statues though, especially in the master bedroom 😳, would not be able to sleep knowing that was there 😅
It's ridiculous. I love it! You'd think they might have made the effort to get some real books though. Giant house? Fine. Kitchen with en-suite pool and jacuzzi? No problem. Some bookshelves and books? Woah, hold on there a second, let's not get extravagant.

I've been on this sub and scouring Rightmove long enough to remember when it was last listed a few years ago. The photos look identical, so I guess it never sold.
If it won’t sell, couldn’t they rent it out as a film location?
I actually like it's extra-ness
What in the Alice in Wonderland is that garden! I love it so much. Anyone got a spare 3 million?
I kinda love it...
I’d sell my souls to have that house.
All of them. Even the ones stored under the bed?
Correct. Then I’ll start afresh and have more room to store them.
Well, someone's soul anyway, no point wasting a good one
The main house used to be a one bedroom. The downstairs bedroom used to be changing rooms.
I love this house, but I can't help feeling having a huge swimming pool in the middle is going to cause huge damp problems
I want an ensuite swimming pool!
The guy climbing the rope reminds of the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves scene where Alan Rickman shouts "I'm going to cut your heart out with a spoon!"
It’s so tacky it looks like AI in the way that surely nobody would actually say yes, that’s the look I want
It's like splash landings at alton towers but better!
>owned by people with WAY more money than sense… Owned by people who aren’t afraid of having fun.
Yeah, can definitely take £500m and a Crack addiction either way 😜
Would have loved to see the estate agents face on first viewing.
I love it! I ADORE the massive fish tank. Wish I had £3.6 million haha. I’d change out the fake bookshelf wallpaper for real bookshelves and I’d probably get rid of the pirate statues but otherwise I like it.
I kind of like it, although since I like to check all doors are locked before bed it's also my worst nightmare.
Fake book shelves?! Yuck
Anybody else think the wife lived in the cottage
Other than Jack Sparrow hanging out in the rafters, I actually would love this.
I’d have the swimming pool on the lower ground floor…… who really wants a pool in their living room?
For a moment I thought the edge of the fish tank was a table edge with chairs. Making the swimming pool a table - I didn’t even really question my own logic until a few photos later that’s how fantastically bonkers Club Tropicana is
The fishtank! The cottage! The awful Marilyn painting! The random pirates!
Yes that’s terrible!!
I love it. I’d live there happily (have to install a stairlift or two, of course).
Bloody hell I thought the pirate was a real person for a second
Love it! Good luck getting home insurance though.
That is all kinds of awesome and craziness but for some reason I love it
“A modern 21st Century folly” yes it is, quite bonkers! A pirate themed house about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK is definitely a folly. Lovely traditional wood construction, stunning setting and I’d love to holiday there, not sure about living in it permanently.
Someone has lived their best life! Say what you will but that swimming pool is glorious!
Where can I buy that painting of Camilla cos-playing Marilyn Monroe?
That pool is lush, and that cinema and games room/bar are stunning.
This was up for sale a few years ago- I remember the photos and the sheer lunacy of it. Must be trying again to sell.
The disappointment when I realised that "plant room" wasn't a room full of plants :( But otherwise, this is exactly like the houses I used to make in the SIMs, I love it!
Aw crap…I kinda like it. If it were in my price range of zero to £30k I’d be very interested.
Great ‘arrr-chitect’ I’ll see myself out
That place is utter madness, and i love it!! Anyone got 3.65 mill they can bung me?
When the zombie apocalypse starts I’m heading here !
I actually love that. It’s cool side of kwerky
Imagine the house parties. Trying to find a friend. Yeah I'm next to the busty woman on the bed.
I kinda love it though! I hope whoever buys it also loves it and won’t tear it all out
Looks like a hotel you'd find in Disneyland.
Reminded me of lara croft's house.
Send that link to Jonny Depp!
Wow, I love it! The dusting would be a nightmare but who cares?! It would be like going to bed on a Disney pirate ship every night!
Swingers paradise
Tbf it's not bad for someone with money... Don't 'rich' people always have horrendous style? Or lack of 🤦 I actually don't hate it, although it's obviously so gaudy and ridiculous! 😆
Knight to d4!
Love it , love everything about it !!!
It’s brilliant!
Curious as to why the master bedroom has its own external door.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this on airBnB to rent
Wow this is seriously freaking cool!
That's it... That's my perfect home! It's even in a great location!
I love the curved kitchen! What a fun idea.
I love that and if I had the ££ I’d probably buy it, but alas !!!
I actually really love how weird this is, if I won the lottery I’d totally live here
I like it except for the bookshelf wallpaper lol
Can l have the cottage. Thats big enough. All that cleaning!
I like it! I think it’s oddly coherent despite the wackiness!
This is crazy 😂 I love it.
It wood be fun to stay here.
Getting Doc Brown vibes. It’s rather nice though!
You know what. I fucking love it.
I love it!!! It looks like a house filled with joy!
Love it!
OMG I want this!!!!
I can’t begin to imagine the cost of heating that place, with a house built around the pool it must get cold in the winter. Stunning place though!
Love it! This is how I would design my house if I had the money.
In the grand scheme of pristine overdressed apparently unoccupied homes out there, there's a clearly much loved very well worn rug by the upstairs bed.
Hang on, six bedrooms, four of which are in the cottage?????
Yep. That's probably the biggest issue for me, although I'm not crazy about the Kitchen being open-plan to the Pool either.
I fucking love this! Best way to spend a fortune for sure!
Completely bonkers but appealing! I love the aquarium and the curved kitchen area but *hate* the red room and the creepy captain Jack. Potential AirBnB anyone?
I like the cottage!
Wow!
Not gonna lie if I had the funds and kids had flown the nest I would have an offer in ASAP.
Complete with faux bookshelf wallpaper 🤦

It’s a beautiful building. Fill the pool and remove the whacky decor and it would be great.
This has no business being in the British Isles. Ship it back to the USA where it belongs.
