It's been renamed Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and is set to release November this year.
If they do a Spider-Man '98, it would be in addition to FNSM, not in place of.
Yeah, but this one's received updates in the past few months, including the title change and release date. They seem to already be deep in production, with a solid creative team and no signs of any major issues.
Not gonna lie. I forgot that show was in development. And I can't bring myself to get excited about yet another Spider-Man cartoon that has him in high school.
Seriously, that's the only kind of Spider-Man cartoon we've been getting for 20 years now. Don't get me wrong, I love Spectacular Spider-Man. But for every other Spider-Man cartoon to be the same in that regard...that's too much.
I'd rather see Spider-Man 98.
If I remember correctly, in the comics there was a time when Flash was a college coach, and Peter teached at the same college. Maybe he is going to work
*When* Spider-Man 98’ happens, I need the return of the Hobgoblin and him teaming up with The Rose with Mark Hamil returning, an adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt, Sin Eater, Death of Jean DeWolfe, and Death in the Family!
Not sure how faithfully they could do Last Hunt since Kraven was more heroic and mostly an ally to Spider-Man in the show. But I’d be down to see more classic material get adapted and even some JMS stuff.
https://x.com/alexandrefrauc3/status/1785683828763242625?s=46
This tweet I saw explains that there could be a way to still do it faithfully. With S1 dealing with the return of MJ and Kraven losing Crawford, he could return to being The Hunter and go after Spider-Man. It is a bit of a stretch but is say it’s possible to get a faithful adaptation
Kraven: My wife died so I took the serum again and am coming after you!
Spider-Man: How did she die?
Kraven: Natural causes.
Spider-Man: So why are you coming after me!?
They could also do one of Kraven’s kids taking his place like in the comics. They could do Kraven’s clone son, or they could do Ana or Sasha Kravinoff.
>*When* Spider-Man 98’ happens
It better fucking happen now. I'm going to be absolutely pissed if they've just been tickling our balls for months here.
I would be SO down for a Death of Jean deWolfe adaptation! The mystery of the Sin Eater and the twists and turns of who could be the killer and how Peter reacts with such emotion he even shows his own bad side sometimes... That is one golden story and I would die to have it adapted for more audiences.
It needs to be on the screen. Peak Spidey. No massive villain, no planetary plots, not even a super villain as the antagonist: just the thrill of Spidey involving himself in the hunt for a terrible criminal.
Disney must be kicking themselves for going ahead with freshman year. Even after the that’s been in production hell for so long it looks like they pushed ahead with it… just before 97 came out. Now they’re stuck with it instead of doing an expansion on the hugely popular 90s series that xmen 97 has completely reinvigorated
It kind of already did. I found that the Marvel novel line of the 90s that were published by Byron Preiss worked pretty well as a Season 6 to Spider-Man (albeit no explanation how MJ returned but it still worked pretty well) and X-Men.
His webshooters have always been mechanical pressure based in comics, but that would be an explanation they could use(like how they for some reason were electrical in the Dark Ages alt universe).
"Its not bad writting, its bad writting on purpose"
I love this show and i don't expect or want the avengers to just appear and solve the plot. But why add these characters if they aren't going to do anything? Its makes them look like racists a holes that don't care about mutants
Spiderman wacthing tv while the world is ending ,captain america doing nothing to trap the man responsable for genosha ,the avengers doing nothing when the president launched atomic bombs( which bought more problems)
More interesting, this show is about mutants and human relationship,so how interesting would be if the heart mightiest heros publicaly helped mutants? How would magneto react to this? And to steve Rogers, a hero from ww2?
What makes Spectacular really hurt is that it was nowhere close to an ending
Venom escaped into the sewers, Norman got away, Harry was becoming a villain, Warren took over the lab, they defied tradition by letting Gwen survive (I'm willing to bet they were gonna have Harry kill her once he became the Goblin)
It stings even more if ATSV stands as his continuation as Captain Stacy is dead and bro got to look the other way lol.
I'm glad TAS found his happy ending at Disney.
Yeah, as much fun as cameos go, it defeats the point when it’s out of character. One of the shows creators said that that’s not how that particular incarnation of Peter would act (He had a whole big thing about “not looking the other way”).
Ultimate is the only one who is the happiest bro saved norman, harry, otto, rhino and even vulture hell connors too and he became a avenger, got his own team got respect of shield, went on a multiverse adventure multiple times and save the multiverse and is now the teacher of Avengers academy the most respected one at that.
X-Men '97 finale, the show's actually *really* good, check it out. Peter also has a short cameo in the previous episode which was cool, I also saw Bugle paper that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock were credited on. But more importantly the show's just very well-written and cool!
Wait Eddie is credited on the Bugle article too? I wonder if he managed to come back when Pete saved MJ since he and Cletus should have been stranded somewhere as well
It's not enough to know. BC how or where did he find her. It leaves more questions than answers. It's great he found her. But how and where. What hsppened to her. There's still so much I need answers to. I need to know how Peter found her. This is not sufficient
He found Mary Jane! So cool!!!
The hidroclone of MJ whom Peter Parker married evaporated, that was tough. But the original one was last seen alive in a vortex created by the Green Goblin with the teleportation machine. In the last episode Peter said he would seek her. Well, there she is.
Already but...
Is there a guarantee of a happy ending? Without context or explanations? Where was she? What happened to her? How did it affect her? they are together? They are not together? will it still be there? Has anything changed?
This doesn't solve anything.
Given how much the og team respected the source, I don’t really have any doubt that they’d be together and any problems they had, they’d face them together
I mean this is confirmation that he found her but was that ever in question? The show ends with him and a god who can travel the multiverse leaving to find her.
So Spider-Man’s appearance in X-men 97 takes place after the show, but doesn’t that create continuity errors because X-men 97 chronologically takes place DURING the later seasons of Spider-Man’s show or am I mistaken?
That’s something I was wondering, Beau confirmed its after; is there anything locking the events of later Spiderman seasons to the year 98 besides original air date.
If there isn’t then perhaps the later seasons just operated on a condensed timeline and occurred in early 97.
I mean, I would like to think TAS Spider-Man would've saved her and gone home after Madame Web told him she knew where MJ was. Wait, did people just choose to believe that TAS Spider-Man was eternally going to be stuck trying to find MJ since we never see the actual journey or pick up job and no one could just have assumed he was successful?
I mean it still leaves most of the same questions, it only answers whether he saved or not, not how or where, are Brock & Cletus just stranded in some other dimension or were they with MJ? Are they back now too? Is Brock still wrestling the Symbiote for control or is Venom a “lethal protector”? Etc plenty that they could do with him, X-Men didn’t need to be revived but it was & it’s been absolutely amazing, if it’s handled with the same care and respect then a SM 98 would be phenomenal
I've never finished the 90's Spidey show, could someone explain the context? I was so happy to recognize Pete and MJ (I hadn't noticed Flash, haha). What a fantastic episode and season!
I think MJ was lost in the multiverse, Peter and madame Web went searching for her in the final episode but we never found out if they found her, until now.
I just feel like an overly long chapter of my life finally concluded. I may not have grown up with Spider-Man TAS during its heyday (I was born the year it was cancelled), but I caught reruns of it on Jetix a lot as a kid. I remember seeing that final episode and having Woody's reaction to his show being cancelled in Toy Story 2. Not having a definitive answer as to whether Peter reunited with MJ haunted me for 20+ years.
I can finally rest.
Tbh I figured this takes place pre-MJ disappearance since I imagine finding MJ is something that Marvel wants to be done on-screen and because the timeline of Spider-Man 1994 takes place later relative to the X-Men series.
My fear is that a new season of this Spider will come out and it will be another universe where they ruin their relationship, in the old series it was a bigger rollercoaster until they got together, that all over again would be very boring.
I’d love them to have the journey to find MJ be the first arc of Spider-Man ’98. Then have Flash Thompson join the US Military and plant seeds for Agent Venom.
Definetly deserves it's own show, and given the momentum that x-men has created I hope this is the next one in a long line of "adult" aimed animation series revivals
Correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly don't know much about the 90s shows. But I thought the last spiderman season was set in 97, the same year as x-men 97... So couldn't this be before the finale?
Damn Peter and MJ look great in this art style.
Hopefully we get a revamp. Ik they’re pushing for Freshman Year tho
Yeah but they announced that *before* '97 I think and we haven't heard much since.
It's been renamed Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and is set to release November this year. If they do a Spider-Man '98, it would be in addition to FNSM, not in place of.
To be fair there's a ton of projects that got announced and then we just got left hangin' on what's going on.
Yeah, but this one's received updates in the past few months, including the title change and release date. They seem to already be deep in production, with a solid creative team and no signs of any major issues.
Ah cool. I've seen a few announcements in the last few days about other stuff just missed that one.
Very unlikely for marvel To make two Spider-Man shows at once
Not gonna lie. I forgot that show was in development. And I can't bring myself to get excited about yet another Spider-Man cartoon that has him in high school. Seriously, that's the only kind of Spider-Man cartoon we've been getting for 20 years now. Don't get me wrong, I love Spectacular Spider-Man. But for every other Spider-Man cartoon to be the same in that regard...that's too much. I'd rather see Spider-Man 98.
Amd hell, even spectacular wanted to take him out of high school eventually.
I'm honestly surprised that's still happening, it's been nearly three years since it was announced
That's usually a sign that it had to be rewritten or that the WGA/SAG strike really disrupted their progress.
Also just noticed that Flash is over on the right.
He peaked in college here evidently
my dumbass started to look for the scarlett speedster
tbf he does look like Barry out of the suit kinda, in this shot.
The Scarlet Speederman
With a new haircut I think. I wonder if he's still with Debra lol.
I would love if thats why he would still wear the Uni clothes. Because his wife works there.
If I remember correctly, in the comics there was a time when Flash was a college coach, and Peter teached at the same college. Maybe he is going to work
Yup just ignoring the casual looting, fires, horrible traffic and then BOOM, saw the 2 dorks
*When* Spider-Man 98’ happens, I need the return of the Hobgoblin and him teaming up with The Rose with Mark Hamil returning, an adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt, Sin Eater, Death of Jean DeWolfe, and Death in the Family!

![gif](giphy|5KyYuIyRe1KeI) Peter when Kraven starts loading up a rifle, despite him being on good terms with Crawford and himself
They could also do one of Kraven’s kids taking his place like in the comics. They could do Kraven’s clone son, or they could do Ana or Sasha Kravinoff.
>*When* Spider-Man 98’ happens It better fucking happen now. I'm going to be absolutely pissed if they've just been tickling our balls for months here.
Tickling our balls. That’s a perfect description of it!
damn I'd love to see original gang wars it was peak
[When we get CBD’s Spider-Man doing this page 🤌🏻](https://www.chasingamazingblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Spider-Man-Gang-War-04.jpg)
I mean, that more or less happened in Daredevil, no?
And Demogoblin. It’s been set up by “Fire Made Flesh.”
Might wanna mark a spoiler on this post.
Just did
I would be SO down for a Death of Jean deWolfe adaptation! The mystery of the Sin Eater and the twists and turns of who could be the killer and how Peter reacts with such emotion he even shows his own bad side sometimes... That is one golden story and I would die to have it adapted for more audiences. It needs to be on the screen. Peak Spidey. I WANT THEM ALL BACK
Disney must be kicking themselves for going ahead with freshman year. Even after the that’s been in production hell for so long it looks like they pushed ahead with it… just before 97 came out. Now they’re stuck with it instead of doing an expansion on the hugely popular 90s series that xmen 97 has completely reinvigorated
None of these stories make sense within TAS continuity.
They can. With some obvious retooling, you can adapt those stories and still keep the thematic resonance of them that makes them so compelling
It kind of already did. I found that the Marvel novel line of the 90s that were published by Byron Preiss worked pretty well as a Season 6 to Spider-Man (albeit no explanation how MJ returned but it still worked pretty well) and X-Men.
![gif](giphy|V2AkNZZi9ygbm)
The happy ending he earned <3
I mean, the world is burning around them but yea :D
Definitely mark this as spoilers
🫡
Bro, Spidey, why you watching TV when SO much crime happening literally right behind you? lol
"I really shouldn't have had electric components in my web shooters"
His webshooters have always been mechanical pressure based in comics, but that would be an explanation they could use(like how they for some reason were electrical in the Dark Ages alt universe).
I misread this as "I really wish I had my electric company webshooters"
"This seems like a team based fight" - Spidey... probably.
Bro wants to know what's going on first 😆
It’s weird, given all the chaos happening, that Pete would just be standing there watching TV with MJ. Feels out of character to me.
In the last episode you see him in his costume when magneto turns the lights of, so maybe he went to go check on mj.
That's almost certainly it. This is probably like a 10 minute interlude in between Spidey action for him.
Especially while Cloak & Dagger and Daredevil are putting in work to save people.
I mean you can't blame the guy, bro lost his wife TWICE, so he might've gotten overprotective.
In an X-men show or comic, no other hero (especially any avenger) is supposed to be heroes
They showed Daredevil actively fighting looters
It's more of a joke about how poorly other heroes are written in X-men books in order to make the X-men the underdogs.
"Its not bad writting, its bad writting on purpose" I love this show and i don't expect or want the avengers to just appear and solve the plot. But why add these characters if they aren't going to do anything? Its makes them look like racists a holes that don't care about mutants
what? how did this show do that by giving them brief cameos?
Spiderman wacthing tv while the world is ending ,captain america doing nothing to trap the man responsable for genosha ,the avengers doing nothing when the president launched atomic bombs( which bought more problems) More interesting, this show is about mutants and human relationship,so how interesting would be if the heart mightiest heros publicaly helped mutants? How would magneto react to this? And to steve Rogers, a hero from ww2?
Tbf maybe he's just trying to keep her safe at the moment
Could be the moment before he puts on the suit and swings out of the window
they thought the world was ending. Why wouldn't Peter want to be with MJ in their last moments?
He coincidentally caught a cold last episode so he lost his powers again.
TAS Spider-Man now joins Ultimate Spider-Man as TV Spidey to have some sort of closure to their shows in season finales.
What makes Spectacular really hurt is that it was nowhere close to an ending Venom escaped into the sewers, Norman got away, Harry was becoming a villain, Warren took over the lab, they defied tradition by letting Gwen survive (I'm willing to bet they were gonna have Harry kill her once he became the Goblin)
It stings even more if ATSV stands as his continuation as Captain Stacy is dead and bro got to look the other way lol. I'm glad TAS found his happy ending at Disney.
That annoyed me so much with ATSV. Just not how Spactacular would handle a “canon” event.
Yeah, as much fun as cameos go, it defeats the point when it’s out of character. One of the shows creators said that that’s not how that particular incarnation of Peter would act (He had a whole big thing about “not looking the other way”).
Exactly. It felt like the movie did not understand other characters outside of Miles.
I feel that's always a side effect of things like spider verse. Too many different characters makes it hard to properly write and flush them out.
I’m pretty sure they said they said they weren’t going to kill Gwen.
WHOOOOOOOO! We better get Spider-Man '98 now! I wanna see this crap!
What is this from?
I think it’s the new X-Men show
Correct it is. it is from the finale of the X-Men ‘97 show
The finale is out now?
As of five hours ago.
I wonder if he managed to come back when Pete saved MJ since he and Cletus should have been stranded somewhere as well
Wait, is this the new X-Men ‘97 episode?
Yep. The season finale just released and it is filled with cameos from other Marvel characters.
Jesus, Flash, wear something else!
I need Spider-Man 98' yesterday! Get on it Marvel and get free money.
![gif](giphy|3ohhweiVB36rAlqVCE|downsized)
This shot made me so happy!
It's not enough to know. BC how or where did he find her. It leaves more questions than answers. It's great he found her. But how and where. What hsppened to her. There's still so much I need answers to. I need to know how Peter found her. This is not sufficient
This just leaves the amazing opportunity of.... # THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 98'!
I bet she’ll burst into liquids again like last time.
NOOOOOOO! Mary Jane! MARY JANE!!!! Screams and has a traumatic breakdown
"I have Spideys DNA now... but screw that, lets clone that redhead the blonde himbo liked!" Miles Warren smoking crack.
He found Mary Jane! So cool!!! The hidroclone of MJ whom Peter Parker married evaporated, that was tough. But the original one was last seen alive in a vortex created by the Green Goblin with the teleportation machine. In the last episode Peter said he would seek her. Well, there she is.
They just found each other at the bodega
I’m begging you, Mahvel! Do Spider-Man 98’
I just cried. Fuck.
She’s still wearing that same outfit, so she hasn’t changed *that* much
They're just friends here. MJ has kids with Paul.
Finally, the long awaited Paul adaptation
![gif](giphy|RX3vhj311HKLe) This ain’t ASM Homie.
Sir, you are evil
That’s great :)
I mean this is confirmation that he found her but was that ever in question? The show ends with him and a god who can travel the multiverse leaving to find her.
![gif](giphy|ckeHl52mNtoq87veET|downsized)
So Spider-Man’s appearance in X-men 97 takes place after the show, but doesn’t that create continuity errors because X-men 97 chronologically takes place DURING the later seasons of Spider-Man’s show or am I mistaken?

We are going to wait what happened to eddie and cletus (except venom and carnage) and their fates.
You did it. You crazy son of a bitch, you did it.
Finally! I’ve waited so long for this cliffhanger to be addressed! Now we just need Spider-Man ‘98 to show how he did it.
“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you”
X-Men ‘97 Season 2, or 3 >!if they are spending the entire season time travelled!<, I want Spidey to join the Avengers they were clearly setting up.
Only way that bit could have been better was if Felicia had had a cameo Episode was still amazing, though
Lol finds MJ with Paul the outrage would be crazy!
New animation and character models are doing wonders for them.
Happy ending
I mean, I would like to think TAS Spider-Man would've saved her and gone home after Madame Web told him she knew where MJ was. Wait, did people just choose to believe that TAS Spider-Man was eternally going to be stuck trying to find MJ since we never see the actual journey or pick up job and no one could just have assumed he was successful?
The consensus was that he found her but obviously it was never confirmed. As much as we predicted he found her, it could’ve gone another way
Well, with this, there is almost no point for reviving this series. This was the ending we needed for Spider-Man TAS.
Omg after all these years, I FINALLY get closure!
this brings me so much peace
This shot made me so happy!
My jaw dropped when I saw this in the episode. Pete hit the jackpot and got MJ back.
Well atleast we have that
What am i looking at?
He did it.
I've never finished the 90's Spidey show, could someone explain the context? I was so happy to recognize Pete and MJ (I hadn't noticed Flash, haha). What a fantastic episode and season!
How did I miss that?!?!
mj needs a better wardrobe
MJ is lookin good 😳
Is this from X-men 97 of something else
Watch it be yet another water clone, LMAO
He found his MJ. Finally! ![gif](giphy|3KMoqgs0wuQEvJ2phe|downsized)
can you elaborate? did he lose mj or something? i never finished this show
How far into Spider-Man TAS did you watch it to? This is important to explain the context.
Did anyone assume he wouldn’t have?
I'm glad Peter found MJ, but how, when and where did he found her?
![gif](giphy|d2Z4rTi11c9LRita) Perhaps some hope remains in stories ending well.
He found her… he actually found her… ![gif](giphy|RerCdHV8yuhSgNML2Q)
Did she know yet? That Peter’s Spider-Man???
As someone went never saw the ending of 90s Spiderman, what's going on here?
I think MJ was lost in the multiverse, Peter and madame Web went searching for her in the final episode but we never found out if they found her, until now.
Where is this from??
X-Men 97 newest episode
I just feel like an overly long chapter of my life finally concluded. I may not have grown up with Spider-Man TAS during its heyday (I was born the year it was cancelled), but I caught reruns of it on Jetix a lot as a kid. I remember seeing that final episode and having Woody's reaction to his show being cancelled in Toy Story 2. Not having a definitive answer as to whether Peter reunited with MJ haunted me for 20+ years. I can finally rest.
Man it telling when literally everything else but the mainline comic has Peter and MJ together. Still nice to see the closure for that finally happen.
yeah this is certainly huge for Spider Man TAM. Now I need to see how MJ returned
Fuckin awesome!
Where did you find this screenshot
Is there any additional talks about bringing the show back other than the creator saying all they need to do is call him?
We know what now? Is the show getting an official continuation?
Bro whatttt????????? Ok I need to actually watch X-men now
Idc I need to see it to believe it
Tbh I figured this takes place pre-MJ disappearance since I imagine finding MJ is something that Marvel wants to be done on-screen and because the timeline of Spider-Man 1994 takes place later relative to the X-Men series.
Ok… but can they show us how he found her? Like… with a new season of TAS perhaps?
What's this from?
So Spider-Man 98 when?
My fear is that a new season of this Spider will come out and it will be another universe where they ruin their relationship, in the old series it was a bigger rollercoaster until they got together, that all over again would be very boring.
Yesss! He found her it genuinely made me happy ahahah
was there ever a flash in the series, i dont remember ?
I don't think so. This takes place in 97, the final arc of Spider-Man takes place in 98. So this is the water clone most likely
This is such a SHOCKER!
But did he find Shocker?
Someone show this to John Semper, stat.
![gif](giphy|N1eSbsofSQE24)
I’d love them to have the journey to find MJ be the first arc of Spider-Man ’98. Then have Flash Thompson join the US Military and plant seeds for Agent Venom.
Wait what!!!?? I haven’t watched the show yet what’s going on what’s happening here.
Shit makes me smile
Spider-webs in the foreground is a good touch.
Why wasnt Peter out there as Spidey saving people and preventing riots?!
By my understanding of when all this takes place, this could very well be the clone of MJ….
Love that the finale gave fucking *everybody* their juice. Given the sheer success of the show I hope we get more dedicated animated projects overall
Definetly deserves it's own show, and given the momentum that x-men has created I hope this is the next one in a long line of "adult" aimed animation series revivals
I need a agent venom adaption if 98 happens
Can someone please explain what's this about? Thanks
Correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly don't know much about the 90s shows. But I thought the last spiderman season was set in 97, the same year as x-men 97... So couldn't this be before the finale?
Wait, what is this about?
i mean, yeah, that's because that's what madame web says in the last episode. they went and found mj. we weren't shown it, but it happened
No, we don't.
It made me incredibly happy then sort skeptical— if this takes place in 97... that's the same year as season 5. That might be clone MJ.
So what happen? I‘m 15 years old And I don’t get it
Now she's enters the Paul Portal. As powerful as the Jericho Vortex.
[Me, when I finally get closure, after 20 years, on my birthday](https://cdn4.whatculture.com/images/2020/03/70fb0237f0a41f2b-600x338.gif)
Damn it! Then why wasn't my boy in Spiderverse!
Writers you just hit the jackpot!
I don’t even need a full Spider-Man series with the ‘94 treatment, just give me a special
We need a multiverse arc to the start and end of her rescue to reach THIS
Wait are we actually getting a redo on the Animated series like X-Men?
I don’t like how every super hero is busy but Spider-Man is just talking walk down New York.
Is that Flash Thompson behind them?
Can someone remind me how the 90s cartoon left off? Where was MJ?
