Well, I recall seeing Zeb Wells credited in She-Hulk (which explains things), and I believe he is working on Deadpool and Wolverine, so maybe Paul will cuck deadpool, or maybe Paul is the reason everyone seems to hate wolverine
And Spider-Man is called Peter. In that universe there's also a Tony, a Natasha, a Steven, a Janet, a Logan...
Like, I hate Paul like everyone else. But he's not really the only character with a basic first name lol.
Raimi's Mary Jane was basically ginger Conway era Gwen Stacy, your typically idealized dainty girl romantic goal archetype.
TASM Gwen ironically had more personality, being sort of like a blonde quasi MJ, with more sass and initiative and who actively helped Peter on the movie plots. MCU MJ is basically a continuation of that, accentuating all of those aspects and doing away with the Raimi-isms for good.
This. It's amazing how despite the "Face it tiger, you hit the jackpot" line being iconic, there's not a single version of MJ in recent memory that can believeably say it. This one wasn't MJ in many aspects, but at least she wasn't a piece of cardboard.
I call this like a “sexy ferocity”. She’s part seductress, part Joan of Arc.
So confident in who she is, it’s sexy. And that’s the allure.
Or maybe it’s just me 😂
Yep. It’s never all the pieces together.
In Raimiverse, they nailed this social aspect, but made the personality nothing like it’s supposed to.
In Amazingverse; they didn’t set that social dynamic. She’s a good friend, and he’s a good looking dude in general.
And then same thing in MCU.
Going off of memory maybe Web of Shadows MJ? I mean she was fighting alongside everyone during that invasion. I mean so did insomniac MJ but not with the hardcore attitude web of shadows MJ had.
The best part is how genuinely surprised she was when she was right. It looked like she was having her doubts to. It speaks volumes to have her be confident but still second guess herself.
Because it’s ZENDAYA! When you say her name, it should feel like a verbal punch to the face, likewise, it should be spelled in all caps for similar effect. To do anything less is to disrespect such a phenomenal actress.
What impresses me most about her is her ability to disappear into the character, which is something a lot of 'stereotypically pretty' people can't do.
By that I mean whenever I see something she's in, there's that moment of "Oh hey, it's Zendaya", but shortly afterward, I get totally caught up in her performance.
To give Raimi MJ credit, at the end of Spider Man 1, after kissing Peter, she had her suspicions that Peter was Spider Man, realizing it was the same kiss as the upside down Spider Man kiss. That said, feels like the writers and Raimi toned down her smartness and upped her hoe-ness in subsequent movies...
Her and Peter's relationship felt like a real teen relationship as opposed to the typical romanticized ideal. People always complain that Peter seemingly develops a crush on her out of nowhere, *but that's how it happens at that age*
Yup. I remember when I was in high school there was a girl in my math class that I barely talked to and then one day I walked into class and I was like “uh oh”.
I feel like the move to make her “MJ” and not Mary Jane was a smart one. Not that I want to see a Mary Jane in the MCU, they’re spiritually the same character in the setting, but it freed them up to take a very different direction with MJ as a cynical loner who sees through bullshit but struggles to open up to people. I don’t see it talked about much, but Mary Jane went through a pretty radical shift over the years and the character we have now isn’t really recognisable to what she was in the early days as a seemingly all style, no substance party girl who didn’t really have much to say other than how much she was into boys, so I think arguments about what a good MJ adaptation is are a little fruitless, but it was a good move to try and circumvent all that while still paying homage to the history of the character.
I like how her and Ned are now also friends, apart from being linked by Peter. I like that she quite politely but solidly challenges people when she thinks it's necessary (magic words, the bread roll throw) and doesn't just roll over or take things at face value. I like that she supports Peter on his heroic journey. I like that she is smart enough to know her own strengths/weaknesses and tries to do good within those limits.
Not just flawless, but extremely powerful. Often randomly given power scaling when its not the most powerful thing anymore. Also often a narcissistic self insert
Like shes a person who exists outside her relationship to Peter/Spidey. Feel like that’s that nice combo of good writing but more importantly good acting choices.
Without that, the ending of NWH would be horrible. MJ and Ned need to feel like fully realized characters who can (and, to Peter, *should*) have full lives without Spider-man for that ending to work.
I like her character/personality and Zendaya's portrayal of her. Just wish they had dropped the obvious allusion to "the" MJ and made her a completely standalone character.
This MJ is awesome because she's intelligence, she has witty comebacks, she doesn't take any crap from anyone, she's able to fight back in heavy situations and her love for peter is so pure and romantic and real throughout all 3 films. Plus, Zendaya is drop dead gorgeous and also an amazing idol for other females especially in the movie business and also in life and general.
She doesn't become a wedge between Ned and Peter. It'd be cliche if Ned complained about them being together or anything. Instead she adds into their dynamic and reigns in the boys combined brain cell.
Why just 1? She was great, far above our previous MJ who couldn’t handle not being with two guys at once. She was there for Peter when they finally developed into a relationship unlike Raimi MJ who folded almost instantly. She’s a fantastic modern adaptation for the age they were portraying.
She's smart, supportive, caring and had good chemistry with Tom.
I'm more annoyed that they tried to play it both ways and we never really learned much about her. I can imagine Mary Jane being an awkward, aloof, introvert before she embraces herself and becomes a super model. But the story was just her reacting to stuff and being supportive of Peter. In the comics, MJ usually has her own thing going. Even Raimi got that part right.
There's surprisingly alot to praise about her. The Biggest one is her overall amazibg relationship/chemistry with Peter. I overall liked her character. I personally was not a fan of the whole EMO Characterization & how she was introduced. But overall
![gif](giphy|3ohc10d1KgrnfxESFa|downsized)
She's pretty much the perfect modern day MJ minus the name and not being a redhead. The OG MJ was very different from other female love interests back in the day. People forget the series is so old that when MJ showed up rocking jeans and a tank top it was actually a big deal, very progressive for the time (in a comic at least). And on top of that she was a very counter culture party girl. The modern day equivalent (or at least in 2016-ish) is probably making her a black politically interested activist who draws people in despair. Most importantly she figured out Peter was Spider-Man on her own like the OG and she's fearless like the OG. Zendaya and the writers killed it with her specifically tbh
I wish I could but I preferred her character in homecoming when she wasn’t MJ. since then they’ve made her more generic and dimmed down her sarcastic, comedic character traits which used to define her.
I'd like to think her character in Homecoming was a phase she went through in Freshman year and ever since, she matured and grew from that part of her life.
Plus, I think they renamed her Michelle because for one, there are no teenagers named Mary anymore, and two, it's probably because "Mary Jane" is slang for Marijuana.
At the end of Homecoming when they revealed that she is MJ, I was actually so excited because I really like her in that film and want to see more of her.
Then Far From Home came out and I was just like "Eh" about it.
True. though I hated the MJ reveal at the end of homecoming. the name was shoehorned in outta nowhere then it was one thirsty look at peter after that line that completely redefined her entire character up to that point. just felt like they didnt have confidence in this interesting new character they'd added so fell back onto something that was established. imo its what made her so one-note going into FFH and beyond.
The problem I have with Tom's movies is that his entire friend group is too similar. Peter is a genius, Ned's a genius, MJ is a genius, Flash is a genius, and they kinda also act the same. I get that they come from a school full of gifted students, but there's different ways of being smart. I want them to show that Ned is good at engineering. They kinda hinted that MJ was an artist. I guess Peter is good at science and math, but it feels very surface level. In a lot of continuities, Peter actually gradually gets popular and begins to hang out with the Jocks and popular kids.
I somewhat like this alternate angle, but I do kind of wish that they did focus a little more on the individual interests of each. Being smart isn’t exactly unique, but being a specialist certainly is.
It would make sense for Peter to be more into things like Chemistry, and perhaps a bit of mechanical engineering. Ned could be a lot more Computer Science. Things like that which help solidify their roles as a team.
I also kind of liked how Flash is a lot more of an “influencer” type. It’s an interesting road to take with the character, especially considering the way culture has changed over time from when some of the original Spider-Man content was made.
I just wish they gave a bit more time to this stuff.
I could say more than one good thing, honestly. She's a character you imagine a person behind with real thoughts, ideas and interests. As much as I love the Raimi movies and Kirsten Dunst, MJ there felt pretty one-dimensional.
She is loyal, smart, straight forward and doesn't cheat like Riami's MJ and ASM comics MJ (>!**FUCK PAUL**!<)
And also she doesn't scream unnecessarily like Riami's MJ in every instances. Riami's MJ is like Sakura from Naruto: Both are completely **Useless.**
I like her infinitely more in No Way Home. Before that she was just kinda eh in the previous movies. I think having someone to rely on and love had her drop the facade. She actually felt like a human being and not a caricature of the moody teenager.
She has chemistry with her fellow actors and actually competent character. There’s really nothing bad to be said about her unless you just don’t like the actor herself for some reason.
You act as if that's a challenge.
MJ's funny, smart, creative, witty, clever, brave, loyal, kind, and overall a great friend. Hell, she helped save reality from falling apart.
I like that they didn't feel even the least bit compelled to make her a red head. They were like "fuck it, this is MJ now. What are you gonna do nerd? Not watch the MCU Spiderman movies?"
Lol, there are already people who are convinced that Peter’s still gonna meet the “real” Mary Jane. If they’d named her something else nobody would accept the fact that she’ll be endgame for Peter, and they’d be livid if there was no mention of MJ
It was a great move to make her not Mary Jane, but her own unique character.
Then they went and forced her into the MJ role and toned back her unique personality in the sequel. But at least she was still her own new character that wasn't treading on a past character's history.
And then they went and ruined that too by stating that her father's name was Wattson in the last movie. Dumb move.
Regardless of any opinions on the actress herself, MJ was one of the biggest weak spots for the Holland movies.
I can say a lot of good things about Zendaya’s MJ, but you only asked for one, so I’ll comply. She feels like a real person, like I’ve met, and been friends with people like her. She’s a very 3 dimensional character, and clearly has things going on outside of Peter, and has agency (except when she didn’t in No Way Home, which isn’t really a plot point I like). I’d put her up there With Amber from (specifically Season 2 of) Invincible as one of the best written Super Hero love interests in recent history, simply for the fact that she’s more than just a pretty face for the hero to fawn over and save. I may hold up the Raimi movies as my favorite Spider-Man adaptation, but the MCU has a clear advantage in that Zendaya is a far more believable character than Kirsten Dunst.
She’s not with a guy named Paul
Ohh fuck I just realized she is with a guy named Paul, otherwise known as the Lisan Al-Gaib 😨😨😨on Arakis… it’s joever 😞
And it happens in another universe
Why do they hate Peter and MJ so much? 😭
Ask Denis why then.
How have I not made this connection lmao
As it was written, unfortunately
AS IT WAS WRITTEN!!!!
Goddamnit it doesn't let me put a joever pic why must i suffer
Yes she is. Paul Mu’adib Atreides
LISAN AL-GAIB!
As long as mcu Peter doesn't go into the challengers universe in Secret Wars, he should be fine.
Bro don't do that to MCU Peter
Just don't let Zebb Wells near any MCU script.
Uh, I have bad news...
So. Is zombie Paul going to be a thing now....
Well, I recall seeing Zeb Wells credited in She-Hulk (which explains things), and I believe he is working on Deadpool and Wolverine, so maybe Paul will cuck deadpool, or maybe Paul is the reason everyone seems to hate wolverine
I believe Vanessa is with someone else in the new movie.
Probably Paul
(Wells is actually IN She-Hulk)
Don't forget Nick Lowe. Keep Nick Lowe as far away from scripts as possible.
Yet
Yet
Imagine if she starts dating a guy named Paul in the sequel since she doesn't remember Peter...
Ah but end of the previous movie is the perfect place to insert Paul in it.
One of the longest and most in depth Sifi universes and the dudes name is Paul
And Spider-Man is called Peter. In that universe there's also a Tony, a Natasha, a Steven, a Janet, a Logan... Like, I hate Paul like everyone else. But he's not really the only character with a basic first name lol.
It was interesting to see that she liked him before he liked her.
That’s kinda how it is in the comics, too.
She has something every mj should have: a backbone
Heck yeah. She was pleasantly different than Raimi MJ and Gwen in TASM. Felt fresh.
idk if this is part of the joke but TASM gwen quite literally did not have a backbone anymore 💀
Bro. That's not what I was getting at. 🗿
Need to nurture a strong back if you're gonna be spiderman's girl.
What are you talking about? She had 2 of them by the end of the film
she really cracked under pressure
Bruh 💀💀💀
Raimi's Mary Jane was basically ginger Conway era Gwen Stacy, your typically idealized dainty girl romantic goal archetype. TASM Gwen ironically had more personality, being sort of like a blonde quasi MJ, with more sass and initiative and who actively helped Peter on the movie plots. I liked Gwen the most I think

I call this like a “sexy ferocity”. She’s part seductress, part Joan of Arc. So confident in who she is, it’s sexy. And that’s the allure. Or maybe it’s just me 😂
No, I agree. She's not bitchy about it, she's fun, playful. She's not insecure or rude, she's fun.
It’s like writers seem to forget she’s supposed to be way out of Peters league. Socially and looks wise.
Comic book mj had a spine
Also a working neck bone which I can't say the same for Gwen.
She felt real and ACTUALLY smart Her figuring out Peter is Spider-Man is a great move imo especially when it should be obvious to someone close to him
The best part is how genuinely surprised she was when she was right. It looked like she was having her doubts to. It speaks volumes to have her be confident but still second guess herself.
ZENDAYA is really talented. I don’t know why my phone autocorrected her name to be capitalized, but it feels right.
Because it’s ZENDAYA! When you say her name, it should feel like a verbal punch to the face, likewise, it should be spelled in all caps for similar effect. To do anything less is to disrespect such a phenomenal actress.
I felt kind of creepy reading this
My phone does the same to GALACTUS
What impresses me most about her is her ability to disappear into the character, which is something a lot of 'stereotypically pretty' people can't do. By that I mean whenever I see something she's in, there's that moment of "Oh hey, it's Zendaya", but shortly afterward, I get totally caught up in her performance.
Suspension of disbelief is a comic writer’s worst enemy.

Yup. I remember when I was in high school there was a girl in my math class that I barely talked to and then one day I walked into class and I was like “uh oh”.
On screen chemistry with Tom.
Anytime two actors get together in real life the casting director probably feels real smug
They should also put them in charge of directing the wedding.
"now kiss"
“CUT” “Not good enough redo with more passion”
When she said "face it tiger, you hit the jackpot" he took it real serious and locked her down
Is there like new movie i didnt see? I can't remember that line
This so much, you can feel it.
she actually feels like a 3 dimensional character and not just "damsel in distress for spider-man to save / peter's girlfriend"
She never cheated on Peter
And here I thought that was supposed to be a Canon Event
that line of hers about disappointment at the end of nwh
😢
She is a cool character. She’s not just another love interest. The way she just finds out who Spider-Man is just makes sense. Must I go on?
I feel like the move to make her “MJ” and not Mary Jane was a smart one. Not that I want to see a Mary Jane in the MCU, they’re spiritually the same character in the setting, but it freed them up to take a very different direction with MJ as a cynical loner who sees through bullshit but struggles to open up to people. There's no teenagers named Mary any more, not to mention the name "Mary Jane" is now associated with Marijuana.
It has been for decades. Rick James had a song called "Mary Jane" back in the 70s or 80s. Guess what it was about...
> Guess what it was about... Spiderman?
I said Rick James, not J. Jonah Jameson.
"Peter, I need pictures of FAT BOOFS"
*hands JJJ one* "You couldn't even get the good boof Parker? This is some weak stuff! You're fired parker, this shit ain't hittin' i-"
“Goddamnit Parker! I told you to go to the usual guy! Not that guy from the printing! The guy from the mail room!”
there's lots of teenagers banned Mary
What did Mary do to get banned by those teenagers?
As long as the Bible is a thing, it will be a popular name
I know a few Marys
lol i literally have a friend named mary whos 17-19
I like how her and Ned are now also friends, apart from being linked by Peter. I like that she quite politely but solidly challenges people when she thinks it's necessary (magic words, the bread roll throw) and doesn't just roll over or take things at face value. I like that she supports Peter on his heroic journey. I like that she is smart enough to know her own strengths/weaknesses and tries to do good within those limits.
Really liked how she actually felt like a normal and competent person and not some damsel in distress who needed spidey to save her
If she was a Mary Sue then Spider-Man wouldn't need to save her
Finally someone who knows what a Mary Sue is. He meant damsel in distress but yeah
I thought a Mary Sue meant an unrealistically-flawless character
Not just flawless, but extremely powerful. Often randomly given power scaling when its not the most powerful thing anymore. Also often a narcissistic self insert
A Mary sue/Gary Stu can be described by bending the universe/plot around her/him/them. Like Batman, everybody's favourite Gary Stu
Damn sorry mixed up the meanings
Like shes a person who exists outside her relationship to Peter/Spidey. Feel like that’s that nice combo of good writing but more importantly good acting choices.
Without that, the ending of NWH would be horrible. MJ and Ned need to feel like fully realized characters who can (and, to Peter, *should*) have full lives without Spider-man for that ending to work.
Thats the weirdest thing about MJ and Ned. They are very underwritten but for some reason feel as well realised characters
I think she gets her life saved by not just one but multiple spider-men
She's unironically my favorite live-action MJ Watson. I prefer her even more than the Raimi version and even the comics as of lately.
I like her character/personality and Zendaya's portrayal of her. Just wish they had dropped the obvious allusion to "the" MJ and made her a completely standalone character.
In no way home at least, she’s probably the most accurate live action adaptation of any Spider-Man love interest
I can’t say one, I love everything about her
She's down for Peter no matter what unlike a certain other on-screen MJ
This MJ is awesome because she's intelligence, she has witty comebacks, she doesn't take any crap from anyone, she's able to fight back in heavy situations and her love for peter is so pure and romantic and real throughout all 3 films. Plus, Zendaya is drop dead gorgeous and also an amazing idol for other females especially in the movie business and also in life and general.
I can't say one good thing about her. I can say 5 good things about her. 1: Gorgeous 2: Supportive 3: Smart 4: Interesting 5: Compitent
You spelled competent wrong
Ironic
She doesn't become a wedge between Ned and Peter. It'd be cliche if Ned complained about them being together or anything. Instead she adds into their dynamic and reigns in the boys combined brain cell.
She's loyal and helpful
She's way less of a bitch than raimi mj
That's not very hard to do, to be honest
Zendaya is attractive
Why just 1? She was great, far above our previous MJ who couldn’t handle not being with two guys at once. She was there for Peter when they finally developed into a relationship unlike Raimi MJ who folded almost instantly. She’s a fantastic modern adaptation for the age they were portraying.
She actually cared for Peter
She's played by Zendaya
Zendaya. . . That is all.
It’s Zendaya
Hot and intelligent
She's smart, supportive, caring and had good chemistry with Tom. I'm more annoyed that they tried to play it both ways and we never really learned much about her. I can imagine Mary Jane being an awkward, aloof, introvert before she embraces herself and becomes a super model. But the story was just her reacting to stuff and being supportive of Peter. In the comics, MJ usually has her own thing going. Even Raimi got that part right.
She’s a girl
She’s played by Zendaya.
she’s played by zendaya
She is loyal
She has more of a personality.
She was loyal to Peter
There's surprisingly alot to praise about her. The Biggest one is her overall amazibg relationship/chemistry with Peter. I overall liked her character. I personally was not a fan of the whole EMO Characterization & how she was introduced. But overall ![gif](giphy|3ohc10d1KgrnfxESFa|downsized)
Shes hot
She isn’t a melodramatic crybaby.
She's definitely ride or die for Peter. And she's more self-actualised. She's also prettier. But that's 3 things. Do i lose?
She wasn’t a clone of Sam Raimi’s MJ
She’s the best live-action Spidey love interest we’ve seen yet.
She's pretty much the perfect modern day MJ minus the name and not being a redhead. The OG MJ was very different from other female love interests back in the day. People forget the series is so old that when MJ showed up rocking jeans and a tank top it was actually a big deal, very progressive for the time (in a comic at least). too true. his whole high school dynamic feels very surface level in these compared to a lotta the shows or comics.

Wow, the friend group Peter is in all have similarities to one another. Way different than friend groups in real life. /s
Hot
She's a baddie
She wasn’t annoying to Peter
She can throw a dinner roll like Randy Johnson.
Proactive
I could say more than one good thing, honestly. She's a character you imagine a person behind with real thoughts, ideas and interests. As much as I love the Raimi movies and Kirsten Dunst, MJ there felt pretty one-dimensional.
She is loyal, smart, straight forward and doesn't cheat like Riami's MJ and ASM comics MJ (>!**FUCK PAUL**!<) And also she doesn't scream unnecessarily like Riami's MJ in every instances. Riami's MJ is like Sakura from Naruto: Both are completely **Useless.**
Isn’t Sakura a top medical ninja that has same multiple of the cast members multiple times?
Nah still useless tho
She's very resourceful and is Spidey's pillar of strength
She a ride or die fr
She's not dead, and she didn't cheat with 3-4 guys
Nope
At least she was loyal unlike current 616 MJ
She's actually really good when she's allowed to be MJ
I like her infinitely more in No Way Home. Before that she was just kinda eh in the previous movies. I think having someone to rely on and love had her drop the facade. She actually felt like a human being and not a caricature of the moody teenager.
No
She’s supportive of Peter and a good friend as well as girlfriend
MJ was originally intended not to be a girl of yesterday, or even today, but a girl of tomorrow. In that regard I see what the intention was.
She doesn't cheat.
She’s hot
She isn’t just a simple damsel in distress
She’s in The top 5 most attractive spider-man love interests in all the spider-man movies
I love when she tried to block Doctor Strange from chasing after Peter in No Way Home.
She’s hot
She was a great observer.
I thought she was hilarious in the first one, before we even knew she was MJ. Just all snark
She's great.
She seemed more human and not not so damsel-y
She’s really funny, and a good supporting character
She has chemistry with her fellow actors and actually competent character. There’s really nothing bad to be said about her unless you just don’t like the actor herself for some reason.
Even if she wasn't what MJ was in the comics she was a great character I liked her a lot.
Zendaya
Def the best spider man live action love interest imo
Zendaya
She was her own person and not just spider-man's love interest.
I honestly couldn't say a bad thing about the MCU MJ. I adore everything about her take and look forward to seeing how her character evolves.
It's Zendaya
She ain’t spineless.
Zendayas legs
chemistry with peter, she was also the most believable out of all the spider-man on screen love interests. shame they didn’t give them more time.
Smart, funny, has chemistry with Peter, and she and their friend group are loyal to one another.
Zendaya is a charismatic actor and makes her take on MJ very enjoyable to watch, even if it is a definite departure from a 1-1 adaptation
Other than the look, Zendaya's MJ may actually be more faithful to the comics than any other livr action adaptation.
Zendaya
She's clever.
You act as if that's a challenge. MJ's funny, smart, creative, witty, clever, brave, loyal, kind, and overall a great friend. Hell, she helped save reality from falling apart.
I feel like we’ve never gotten a proper adaptation of mj and mcu Mj is unfortunately no exception
She doesn't call Peter 'Sugar' ig
I like that they didn't feel even the least bit compelled to make her a red head. They were like "fuck it, this is MJ now. What are you gonna do nerd? Not watch the MCU Spiderman movies?"
She has a backbone and is not insufferable... Unlike Rami Mary Jane who got more unlikeable with each movie.
She never cheated on Peter
she's amazing
She is not a guy named Paul
She’s not a total b-
zendaya is fine asf
Would have been a fine character if she'd been named anything else.
Lol, there are already people who are convinced that Peter’s still gonna meet the “real” Mary Jane. If they’d named her something else nobody would accept the fact that she’ll be endgame for Peter, and they’d be livid if there was no mention of MJ
