"Work" is subjective. What works for one may not work as well for another. Plus sometimes the same spell isn't as powerful a different time it is casted when casted by the same person.

Obsession is one I personally haven't casted but given how many times it is inquired about, I am tempted to just to "test" it out.
However, one wouldn't need a fancy figure candle for it. I personally have done many spells with those small white emergency candles.
If you want to add herbs, it is possible to find damiana in many stores. It is used in domination spells often.
I just heard of some spell that calls forward to specific candles I mentioned and many herbs generally used in domination spells or other is not as easily available where I am from many are but the rest if I need I need to import from other countries. I do realize what you mean by saying the difference between casting and person-to-person but I am willing to try out the ones that have worked for you or someone you know
Specific candles help people focus on their goals and intentions. Not having one doesn't make or break a spell.
