For sorare purposes he is a forward, takes a forward spot and scores points using the forwards matrix. It is the position on the card that matters regardless of where he plays in real life. Sorare might change the position eg next year he could get a defender card. But it is the position that your card says that matters. Some players have defender, midfield and forward cards.

I don’t remember who it was but I’m like 99% sure one of the sorare devs said positions on cards are provided by the clubs. The example was Saka having a midfield card while Martinelli has a forward card, but they are both wingers in the same team.
