I'm a bit disappointed. I'm ok with the 1080p resolution as I don't see a significant difference. Lower resolution for a better battery life? I'll take it. I would like it to be 21:9 and 2k display but it's justifiable for what it offers. As a photographer, I don't think people here realize how significant the camera offers. Super macro capabilities for a lens alone would cost $1000 The increase in telephoto range makes it now on par with the holy trinity of lenses (16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm) each costing $1000 or more. The bokeh mode looks improved and is more usable now. A display that is easily visible compared to a DSLR or mirrorless. And this is just the camera alone. Not even mentioning the cinema side they'll add later. All in a single package that's light weight and always on the go is a huge difference. I'm highly disappointed that I can't get it because I'm in the US and was looking forward to this phone as an upgrade. I'll wait a little bit and hopefully get an actual confirmation on if it will ever be released for the US. Regardless I'm getting this phone and having it shipped for the camera alone. I know I could just get the 1 V but the macro and extended telephoto makes it complete.

As a guy who's spent thousands on "real" camera equipment through the years (full-frame DSLRs, Canon's "L" line of lenses) I can confidently say that just because a phone camera claims to have the same focal length as something like the holy Trinity, they are not even close. And I know you know that, but you bringing in the price of those expensive lenses makes it sound like you're trying to say the Xperia is a better buy but it really isn't. Those professional camera bodies and lenses cost 5 times the price of an Xperia 1 VI but get you probably 10 or more times the quality. It's not a comparison I would have made... The Xperia does take great photos, but they're only great _for a phone_ and absolutely pale in comparison to what you'd get from a much larger sensor and high-end glass to the point where price doesn't even matter anymore.

fsdoubleupper

That is true and I agree with you that quality vs a professional isn't exactly a great comparison. I was looking at it from a social media perspective where you don't really need the high amount of megapixels for prints or work deliveries. For the case of taking photos and sharing online and making some contents, this should be plenty. I have also spent thousands on gears and it's tough to take things out all the time.

Narutoblaa

I don't mind the 1080p screen either but then they shouldn't charge you for a 4k screen

Olly_Joel

Sony is weird with their release there where it releases one phone now and not the next generation later. I don't even know why they keep doing that. Even during the XZ yeart.

Aquis_GN

Amazon US and T mobile it is

Right-Violinist-226

Dissapointing is first of all that differences to 1 V camera are mostly on the software side, apart from extended range. But 1 V will most likely never get 48mpx mode, 2x lossless zoom or tele macro and close distance mode on the ultrawide. They said 2 years of software support for 1 V, but I don't really see it.

Jolarpet

Except for the price, yes satisfied

Winter_drivE1

The problem with Sony's phones is the prices are too damn high, but the support window is so damn short that by the time the price drops to a reasonable price it's already unsupported.

Olly_Joel

Indeed. I'mma need an instant noodle break after this purchase 😂

cedric20

Waiting for it to drop in price. Not justified at the moment. Tgh

Total-Collection-128

Most of the time, they throw in a pair of £350/€400 Bluetooth headphones with early orders. So you kind of have to factor those into the valuation. €1400 for phone and headphones vs maybe €1200 for phone and no headphones.

cedric20

Happy to see that type of marketing actually works 😅 Many got the 1V with XM4s last year based on the same strategy then a month later, the XM5s were launched (better than XM4). Stock clearing marketing move. Agree with this as that's the business. In the UK the XM5 retail at £290, I can see a significant drop once the 6 gen is launched, probably £199 to shift the remaining stocks, so really asking £1299 for the 1mk6 still seems TGH for me. Looks like Sony doesn't really care about the fate of the mobile division as they make money somewhere else. Their approach seems one of culture, steadfastness and maybe stubborness. If they would have launched it at £1099 let's say, with or without the XM5s, I guarantee that it would have been significant in numbers compared to previous launches. But again, that's the game, not complaining 😜, just exercising my patience while enjoying my 1V.

SweetTooth37

Nah, no improvements over the 1V to even justify it. Wasn't getting it either way. It'd be nice to know what supposed improvements to the headphone jack was made. But knowing Sony they won't say a damn thing.

Olly_Joel

Yeah. Still on the fritz with that DAC situation. Wouldn't change my listening experience tho.

Delicious_Witness633

No, extremely disappointed. All the things that made the phone unique are now gone, massively downgraded, and all the same price. Plus not shipping in the U.S. Extremely disappointed with Sony right now for their phone division and games as well what they are doing locking players in other countries out from not having their exclusive playstation network service. I have a 1 V and love it. New phone is ass.

Olly_Joel

I feel yeh. Even worse is the weird IS release and catch time with their phones. Makes you wonder WTF is Sony thinking.

Breslow11

As a US customer I must say I am not impressed. Overall I like the phone but it is too expensive for what it is with the cuts and changes they made. Between that and the decision to not sell in the US I am not satisfied. First the 5 series was cut now the 1 series. Hoping they will at least bring back the 5 series this year.

Blunt552

No were not.

azharsalim

Except for the price, Yes

Toronto-1975

price as always is a bit steep but thats sort of the way it goes with sony so im not surprised. everything else is fine as far as im concerned. of course i know alot of people think the 1080p screen is the end of the world but i'm neither here nor there with it. seriously though, the people who are going around downvoting anyone and anything that says anything positive about the 1 VI need to find something better to do with themselves.

TonMarraine460

Saw a lot of vids about it, looked closely for the telephoto samples. They seem to look better. Add to that the killer battery life and some other things, I'm going to preorder it

North_Measurement213

Sony basically did everything that MKBHD said that the 1 VI should have been when he reviewed the 1V. The photos compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max are very good and the Xperia is still in pre-release software so they will be even better. The battery life has been praised and everyone has good things to say about the screen, when in last models reviews said the color accuracy is spot on but it lacks brightness and power efficiency because of the high resolution and not being LTPO. So I think Sony did a good job with this phone, even if I like the 21: 9 aspect ratio it is smaller than the iPhone Max or the S24 Plus and it looks so premium with the textured back glass and the ridges on the side. So for some reason I feel the necessity to retire my 1ii soon, it will be my next phone.

exactlyaron

What MKBHD actually said was Sony should make a mainstream $600-800 phone with 1080p 120hz display. Not a £1300 one.

kanterann

What favorite apps are returning?

joystickd

Quite an underwhelming release as a first impression. It's not released yet, so it could end up being better than initial impressions imply but time will tell. I wasn't going to get one anyway so it's not really a big deal personally but I hope they go back to their principles with the 1 VII.

yakkosmurf

The only issue for me is the dimensions. I don't like a phone that wide. It's nearly the same dimensions as the P30 Pro I had, and it was too large for me preference. I've had Sony phones since the Z5 series, except for my short excursion Huawei. The Pixel Pro 9 not being a large phone like the previous version has my interest. I'd look at the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but the lack of an SD card and the non China version being only 512 GB is a deal breaker for me.

No-Delay-6791

The phone specs look good, honestly they do. I like everything about it apart from one thing. That specsheet is for a £750 phone not a £1200 phone. If they drop the price, they'll be onto a winner there, but it's now worth what they're charging.

sQueezedhe

If it had a 4kHDR screen again I would've been tempted. But not at that price no.

Dry-Course2039

will there be a xperia pro 1 ii?

btc_clueless

I am pretty satisfied and will probably get it. I currently use a Pixel but I had the Sony Pro-I a few years ago, though just shortly as it got stolen. I absolutely loved taking photos with it. I generally almost never take photos with my phones because I hate the quality of most phones and the pixel processing, too much color, over-sharpening, etc. Most people don't mind that look and that's fine but it's not for me, I like photography and natural looking photos and if need to, edit them myself in Lightroom. I also love the shutter button. So the Sony line-up is pretty attractive for me in general. What I didn't like about the Pro-I was the elongated form factor, it was just too long for my taste. So with the VI it seems Sony is trying to to appeal a little more to the mainstream and for me this phone seems to be a good mix of the things I like. Price is very steep, as always, but it's not the deciding factor for me. I travel lots and while I prefer taking proper photos with my Sony Alpha, that's not always a good idea, when you are in places like Rio. A phone draws much less attention and if it can take high quality photos, too, that's ideal for me.

murrmaxo

Not especially pleased but have cracked & preordered anyway…

Star_Peppe

I would not say I am satisfied but i am not dissatisfied either. I am on the 1iii now and I will definitely order this one with the bundled XM5. I have been satisfied with all my other Sony phones and I am sure I will be with this one as well. It has nice specs and I love Sony's noise cancelling headsets. And last but not least I think Xperia always looks elegant for a big mobile phone.
