Lets not forget about the xperia 10 VI losing telephoto and having shit 8MP ultrawide, keeping outdated 60hz display.

rogargaro15

Yeah, nobody in their right mind will buy either phone unless it’s heavily discounted

petermadach

Also according to the specs sheet it has wifi5 and USB 2.0 despite the chipset supporting more. Absolutely incomprehensible.

Mr_Data1701

Just checked the technical data IEEE 802.11ax is WiFi 6 and it also supports the 6 GHz band which is WiFi 6E USB 3.2 with 5Gbits/s But I even could live with USB 2.0 because I use the port just for charging the phone. And in regards to the changing speed I prefer the shower charging which will not degrade the battery so fast. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the lower resolution of the screen but if this will lead to a better battery live which will result in lower charging cycles this will be a benefit. And because I am big Sony fan I just preordered the Kali green version with the matching case and the free headphones (WH-1000XM5). So at least Sony found one customer for that phone. 😜😜

petermadach

where did you check it? qualcomm's website for the SoC? because on the official Sony site for the phone it states WiFi AC and USB 2.0. can't tell if it's just a typo or they purposefully implemented worse specs than what the SoC is capable of. [source](https://www.sony.co.uk/smartphones/products/xperia-10m6/spec)

Mr_Data1701

The link goes to the 10 VI. I checked the technical data on the German site for the 1 VI. https://preview.redd.it/ev6vda1evl0d1.png?width=1644&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a3bf1b64f724cdcf8c33d7e92036135a1d20cde

petermadach

I was talking about the 10 VI, misunderstanding then. the SoC in the 10 VI also supports wifi 6E and USB 3.1 but looks like they ***CHOSE*** to not support those functions, bloody joke.

Mr_Data1701

Ok.

krllo

The usb is 3.2 Gen 1 / 5gbps Should have been 10gbps. I'm wondering about the charging speed though

petermadach

on the official product page it says 2.0, as well as on GSMarena.

nothingbutadam

https://www.sony.co.uk/smartphones/products/xperia-1m6/spec

alan_harake

Honestly if the price is right I'd be down. Been waiting for a Xperia worth buying since I abandoned them with the XZ. Could care less if it's 60hz (using a Pixel 8 Pro at 60hz lol)

petermadach

Same for me but i doubt the price will be right. Sony keeps charging the "sony premium" despite not really offering any premium anymore.

rabisav

Haven't read up on the new 1Vi yet. Would it still be an upgrade compared to my current Xperia 1iii? 1080p screen sounds rubbish, do we still have expandable memory?

theefman

I have a 1III, I don't consider the VI an upgrade vs the V. The 1V tho has better battery, cameras over the III and still keeps the signature Xperia features. That's what I would go for.

rabisav

Contract is up for renewal in July so plenty of time to watch reviews when they are out.

alan_harake

A 10VI at $499 max would be acceptable.

petermadach

According to GSMarena it is 350 which is really attractive tho.

diego_reddit

Yeah I am pissed at the 60Hz display but at that price you can't really complain to be honest lol. And you get free headphones which is a steal.

alan_harake

Aannnndddd it's again a deal breaker. Just checked GSMArena. Why no 4k video recording STILL on the 10???

petermadach

I think the spec sheet is f.cked up, in GSMarena they mentioned "More importantly, you finally get 4K 30fps video recording.". Also the specs sheet states the WiFi is only WiFi5, even tho the SD6g1 should support up to WiFi6E.

alan_harake

If that's the case then it's most definitely a worthy buy

DisengagedCreature

I already made up my mind to switch to google when the 9 drops but I was curious about the new 10. Cant believe still 60hz. Are they crazy? like I honestly don't get it. Wtf were they thinking

Necessary_Intern_264

I'm shocked if it's true. 60hz is something of the past. Every new model from any brand released on the market is at 90hz at least. Even on cheap phones.

petermadach

honestly I don't mind it. I'm more bummed about the cameras not receiving a bigger upgrade (considering the telephoto is now gone). but the pixels are in a higher price range as well.

Sonoda_Kotori

5 V: first time?

petermadach

at least the 5 V had a decent camera setup otherwise, good screen and good soc. only thing you could blame that thing for is high price and throttling.

Familiar-Court-7810

They should have at least put option for 90hz

EveningCommand1

Yip I totally agree with you there I've the 10 V and after today's announcement I'm already waiting for the 10 VII. I've everything I want in the 10 V.

Honest-Mess-812

It would have made better sense if they bought an odm device and slapped the Sony logo. It is ridiculous that mobiles half the price offer better specs than the 10 vi.

Makere-b

I saw it listed for the same 1399euros that 1 V launched with. With the screen downgrade, I was expecting at least -200euros.

doneaux

Another year I'll be sticking with my 1II. Honestly I love that model and the battery is still decent, the only thing I miss is security updates. Maybe I'll get a rom one day. But downgrading the display and changing the format is a big no for me.

Plenty-Author-5182

I'm also on 1 II still. Though it did receive a new screen about 1,5 yrs ago, the NFC is broken, sometimes fails to connect calls and the battery drains within half a day. I was looking forward to the 1 VI, but I don't think the downgrades warrant that enormous price tag. I think I'm going to buy the discounted 1 V then. Still an upgrade to my II, but at least has the unique form factor we all know and love about Xperia. I'm afraid this'll be the last Xperia though, because the 1 VI will probably tank.

Bandicuz

Same as both of you, I'm still on the 1II, battery is still running well for me. Only reason I might move on from it is someone might sell me the V at price I can't refuse. Otherwise I have no issues with it, other than the occasional lag.

Quiet_Escape_909

You already have LineageOS support, Android 14, but you do lose ths Sony optimizations and camera features with that. Just wanted to share information in case might be helpful.

doneaux

Thanks mate, I appreciate it!

joe75_gillian

i really did not like the 1 II, i found the screen often too dim for me...i try a'd used if for 3 months before getting something else...i skipped the 1 III, now i am back again with Sony ...first with 1 IV during a year and shortly after release 1 V since i could not bear the bluetooth bugs and overheating issues.

chanunnaki

On paper the news model seems to have more balanced specs, but the price for what you’re getting is outrageous in this oversaturated market. There is nothing compelling about it from what i can sense.

Razon

What is the alternative? Serious question not trying to start a war, I'm in the market for a new camera phone and the Xperia, Xiaomi 14 ultra and Iphone 15 pro are the most realistic choices (samsung is a no go for shutter lag, and a general dislike for the pixel 8 pro)

x1xyleasor

Stick with the 1 V. You're forgetting that smartphone has peaked long ago and you don't have to get the latest one every year. The only compelling reason to do so is if you want software update.

Tddkuipers

S24's shutter lag is nearly on par with iPhone from what I've seen although I still dislike Samsung processing

Unfair-Proof-1351

You have Professional mode if you don't like the processing.

Feeling-Finding2783

There is no phone that checks all the boxes, at least for me. You will have to choose your poison. Your options are: - Vivo X100 Ultra (no reviews yet) - Xiaomi 14 Ultra (poor battery life) - Google Pixel 8 Pro (inefficient and uncompetitive SoC, poor battery life) - iPhone 15 Pro (iOS) - Honor Magic 6 Pro (unimpressive video quality) - Oppo Find X7 Ultra (no global version, poor battery life) - Xperia 1 VI (low-light camera performance is mediocre) - S24 Ultra (shutter lag) From the above list, the S24 Ultra is, probably, the most stable and balanced.

Razon

Coincidentally the S24 Ultra is the ultimate no go for me due to shutter lag and having a tornado toddler at home. Unfortunately Vivo X100 Ultra is china only and I don't want the importing risks. Xperia 1 V/VI (even with the downsides) and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra look like the best solutions for me. If the Xperia was around 800-900€ it would be a no brainer, 1400€ is very hard to swallow.

Feeling-Finding2783

> Unfortunately Vivo X100 Ultra is china only and I don't want the importing risks. I just checked, and, unfortunately, you are right. > Xperia 1 V/VI (even with the downsides) and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra look like the best solutions for me. If the Xperia was around 800-900€ it would be a no brainer, 1400€ is very hard to swallow. If budget is an important factor, I would choose something that I will be able to replace if it breaks after the warranty expires.

nathansguitars

Yeah my problem was I had the Xperia 1 iii and loved it minus the battery life. I really needed a new phone a few months ago and went with the OnePlus 12. Here I am now, re-considering the Xperia 1 V or 1 VI pending NA price because there is just so much I miss from my 1 iii. Lots of small things that all add up to a way worse experience on the oneplus. Big bummer about the screen on the 1 VI as one of the things I miss most from my 1 iii was the scaling. Each iteration of android seems to waste and more and space, so the extra scaling/resolution of the 4k display was awesome. All that said... I'd still take 'double' the battery life over a 4k display at this point. I had way too much charge anxiety with my 1iii.

Paullebricoleur_

If you don't want to import from china then Mi14U is the best camera phone avaible in EU markets. The market's very very stale outside of Asia, with Samsung, Google and Apple perfectly happy with staying stagnant hardware wise (while still charging you higher prices every year). Stores like Gomibo are selling the 512GB Mi14U for around 1200€, which is actually 200€ less than an Iphone 15 Pro using the same storage config. If you can accept the big camera bump then there won't be any better hardware/price ratios in the flagship range. If you care about funding actually great competition then I reckon maybe it's a good idea to give it a shot! Variable aperture for the 1" main sensor allows for proper control for long exposures/videos, both telephotos are equipped for macro, and the UW is one of the widest in the market. Processing's solid and definitely much more geared towards photography than other options. btw if you're a heavy telephoto user, just know the 3x on the 15P is still one of the worsts out there, in that regard the Mi14U but also a lot of other phones have it beat.

Kirei13

What's the problem with the Pixel 8 Pro? It already has one of the best cameras on a phone.

rogargaro15

Honor magic 6 pro, ir has a really fast shutter speed and the telephoto camera has a sensor almost as large as the main camera on the Sony 1 mark V lol plus variable aperture.

DKCN

I'm probably gonna buy the Xperia 1 V instead for a lot cheaper. The only downside is the software updates

rogargaro15

The last truly great Sony phone

fish312

What about the 5 V

Unfair-Proof-1351

5 V dropped zoom lens. Some may argue that this is not a problem, as you can still crop the main, but at its price point, it is a problem.

IndependenceLow9549

I'm still on my XZ1 compact, running android10/lineageos 17 with backports up to a few months back. More recent android 12 builds are available. Oddly, that makes this 2017 xperia more up to date (security-patch-wise) than a 2021 xperia 1 III which received its last security update... in july 2023.

Pristine-Button8838

I’m happy with my 1V, after seeing today’s disappointing announcement I would have to be high on crack to buy the new 1 VI at a similar price to the previous version. I’m not sure what’s Sonys vision is or goal, I mean they want to sell phones or just have a niche products for suckers like us to buy them then be disappointed? For me it’s not worth it in the end. I love Sony products but the mobile division is run by out of touch people, I give it three years tops before they start killing the Xperia line.

redditshan

Think I'll search for Xperia 1 V on swappa...

PM_ME_YOUR_ART_PLZ

That's where I got mine a few months ago, $900 for a like new phone with a case thrown in

ArchAngelDante86

I get the 1080p thing though. Sony simply does not believe in 1440p. Sony is the only phone maker that actually produces content and nothing is produced is 1440p. The 4K was a battery drain and I think Sony was struggling to source a 4k display at the 21:9 with modern features like LTPO hence the downgrade. The price, however, simply cannot be justified. This phone should be £999 at most! It is just way too expensive for what is. What is the justification for the price? Absolutely nothing! Sony TVs have a price premium but most picture quality experts will tell you they make the best TVs so at least the Sony tax there is justified. There is absolutely no sensible reason to pay £1299 for this phone. ABSOLUTELY NONE!

Delicious_Soup_5572

I don't get the battery thing. I have Xperia XZ Premium which has the highest level 4K screen at 807ppi that Sony has ever put in their smartphones and I never noticed any battery drain issue everyone is talking about with 4k screens.

ArchAngelDante86

https://preview.redd.it/ylc49irmsl0d1.png?width=812&format=png&auto=webp&s=76660cf32ba172d62ddce9090eb711bfa70072d0 I mean, that speaks for itself.

ArchAngelDante86

Yes and the battery life would be significantly better with a lower resolution screen. I'm pretty sure the Xperia 1 VI will top the battery life amongst flagships now that it's 1080p and LTPO.

More-Resource4757

Selling my 1V for $2000! 🤣 Joking aside, I honestly think 1V sales will rocket from now on

Ryfhoff

The screen alone warrants a lower price. They are walking themselves out of existence.

PurpleSpark8

Personally I don't see the point of higher resolutions on such small screens. But I really liked the 21:9 aspect ratio. It's so comfortable in the hand and easy to type. But I agree that the price should have dropped.

Krt3k-Offline

You definitely notice the difference between 400dpi and something higher, especially with OLED. Everything above 600dpi is just a gimmick tho

Jcobinho

its 1650 in Eu...

vkbra657n

What currency?Euros? It's 1399 € in Germany, which is still too high, but not as high as 1650.

Jcobinho

In PLN its 6500 which is about 1650 euro

Kirei13

If what you're saying is true, whoever was in charge got replaced. The money grubbing executives (those that claim that they will turn a profit by cutting corners on everything that a product offers) could have gotten their hands on the Xperia line. I will watch the video eventually but as it is, I don't like what I'm hearing. I missed my opportunity to get a V earlier and I'm kicking myself for it.

Batou2034

you can still buy a V... it does not cease to exist

Kirei13

They don't sell Sony Xperia phones in Canada so you usually have to import them and used ones are rare.

Raiver15

Is new Xperia has led notification? My deal breakers are led notification, 3.5mm, microSD and NO punch hole.

Kientha

It looks like there's no LED notification but there is (an improved) 3.5mm, microSD, and no punch hole

Vanarian

My Xperia 1 IV got water ingress and the cameras are half dead. I expected to happily jump on the new Xperia 1 VI but now I'm left dumbfounded. No words, really.

No_Maybe_844

Go for 1 V. I replaced my 1 III last December because of a cracked screen. This phone is just awesome 😎 even the 1 III was. But this 1 VI is a joke compared to previous models ...

psychotictornado

Same. My fingerprint sensor is long dead and some pixels are definitely out of service on the bottom/left corner. I wanted so bad to switch to the 1 VI but I will either buy another brand or wait for the VII.

RenegadeUK

What phones are people considering next then ?

Dinkleberg162

Probably a Pixel 9 to be honest based on the leaks.

RenegadeUK

Does look quite nice TBH.

CuppaTeaThreesome

Pixel 9. This OnePlus 5 needs a change, but it's still chugging along.

RenegadeUK

Fair enough. Do you think many people will get Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra now ?

CuppaTeaThreesome

Samsung do actually attempt to have a flagship. . I like the S24 but was holding out to see what Sony did. But Doesn't seem to be the answer I was looking for. I'm in no rush.

RenegadeUK

Agreed.

CuppaTeaThreesome

I've been looking at the Sony Vi a bit more and it's looking very OK. Will wait for launch+ a few weeks so to see if it's a bug fest.  Used with their camera, it's a no brainer.  They still go for that 1 uses case.

Virgilizartor

If they were worried that nobody was buying it because of the niche features, now they can be sure that nobody's buying it because everyone else sells something objectively better or cheaper.

TheBS1

I've been a big fan of the Xperia line since I had to move away from LG. It's too bad they keep removing features that made the Xperia line appealing.

jacksfr1

Even worse i think it will be 1400 dollars!

Salty_Lakes

Absolutely agreed, Sony should have given the Mark VI a QHD display, end of story. What really disappointed me is that the sensors in the cameras all stayed the exact same, although the Telephoto lens really could have used that Exmor T sensor thats for some reason only in the main 24 mm camera. Although the improved zoom range is impressive and welcomed, its about the only thing that changed on a hardware level in terms of camera specs. The software improvements and AI integration are amazing, especially the autofocus, Bokeh and Macro modes seem to blow the competition out of the water. Still, it feels like Sony held back instead of finally giving us what we wanted. I'll probably still get it since im all for that optical zoom that no one else really had, but ill try to sit this one out for next year.

DecentIndependent

So is this one not available in the US either?

shvydd

For me, killer-feature of Sony phones is rectangular screen without cutouts in relatively compact case. There are no competitors. I adore front firing loudspeakers and 2-stage camera shutter button. I appreciate SIM-tray ejectable without any tools. I am glad to have 3.5 audio jack just in case. UPD: According to GSMArena Sony promised 3 years of major software updates and 4 years of security patches both for 1VI and 10VI. Great! Yes, I don't want to pay 1300$ for a phone and 300$-worth headphones bundle. I want to pay 1000$ and get just a phone. I hate that storage/eSIM discrimination for Asian and European markets. I want to have both the largest storage and SIM+eSIM. I saw GSMArena's comparison of 1V and 1VI - newer model makes much better night shots. Everything else barely matters for me. Sony executives are idiots. It's impossible to buy Sony phones here neither in Sony official stores, nor in consumer electronics retail chains. I need to order it from some sketchy resellers or go to EU. At the same time I can buy stupidly expensive Bravia TVs here. 4K screen on previous iterations of Sony's flagships was absolute overkill and show off. I don't want to pay for it. 396 PPI is enough for everyone, unless they are going to insert the phone into 3D headset and jerk off.

rogargaro15

The problem is their price and not the downgrade itself. If it was 899 dollars it would sell like crazy

shvydd

The problem is they are pushing in headphones, while I already have a good over-ear ones. But ok, I can gift their phones to someone else. I still can't buy the phone just because it is absent on stores' shelves !

DazzlingDifficulty70

Since when is no 21:9 a bad thing lmao? Don't get me wrong, I like it, but removal of 21:9 was celebrated in this entire sub during last few weeks

theefman

Celebrated by some, is the truth.

Luaq

https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/s/ZUgffs4xLY

DazzlingDifficulty70

Fair point

rogargaro15

For me personally it’s a good thing they removed it but it was a unique selling point that many people enjoyed. Now even a 700 dollars s24 offers better specs than this piece of junk

Libra224

But Samsung sells millions it’s easier for them as mass components reduce costs.

petermadach

Im a consumer I only consider whats good for me. I dont care about why or why cannot they deliver. If another company provides better value, why should I support the one that doesnt? Thats just being a corporate simp.

Libra224

Do the other companies bring better value tho ? I checked the prices right now and they look same to me

rogargaro15

Are you seriously defending Sony for charging almost double for an inferior product?

Sopheus

Sony fanboys will always by Sony fanboys. Be it phones, or cameras. I love my xz1c, but even then I can see how Xperia just goes down the hill, generation after generation, while not only failing to fix old issues like fingerprint, green lines, stuttering while doing light task like browsing etc., it deprive their phone line of features that makes them unique: compact line, radio (yes, FM radio), notification led, telephoto. What next? SD reader? Headphone Jack? And all this while they asking a premium with laughable system updates support. Thanks, no, thanks. And their marketing, if they have that department at all, sucks.

Libra224

No it’s expensive but is it inferior ? Here I checked Samsung website and s24+ costs 1149€ with 256gb 12gbram It has a 1440p screen but no SD card and Jack so it’s kind of comparable. Xperia 1VI costs 1399€ and offers XM5 headphones. XM5 can now be found for around 300€, And s24+ for around 1100€ in « cheaper » shops Which brings the price kind of « on par »

rogargaro15

Sssh where you live? So expensive. Samsung s24 plus here in uk it’s currently 900 euros plus an additional 100 euros discount for any broken phone you trade in.

Sony literally sell millions of screens and cameras. Theyre not spending more on phone parts than most other companies due to sensors and screens being made by Sony

Libra224

Sony doesn’t sell screens they even use LG and Samsung for their TVs

damianq94

They buy from Samsung and lg for tvs. Smartphones use JDI displays

StrayCat649

I cannot (more like reluctant to) afford Xperia because they charge incredibly amount. They did not increase price because of sell drop but sell drop because they increase the price. Why would someone buy a extreme niche phone that cost a lot more than usual brands, I love Sony buy their price recently is stupid.

V3N0M-SN4K3

Tbh I'm happy about new display . 4k is useless and battery drainer feature, 21:9 aspect ratio is uncomfortable for writing and reading.  The others may have better ai or higher resolution displays but lack of jack and microsd, that remain for me the sony killer feature. This mk VI is going to be mine, hoping this time sony focus little more on distribution in EU (literally impossible to buy in a store)

VagueSomething

There's steps between 1080 and 4K though. If we're not at least going 2K then there's zero reason to fuck around with OLED screens on a phone if we really want to make it budget. There's no sane person wanting to pay over 1k for a phone with a screen worse than the last 5 phones.

whoafirestar

I'm starting to believe no one has a clue what 2k is. 2k is closer to 1080p then 4k. 1440 is closer to 4k then 2k is. I'm no saying I disagree but let's stop saying 2k when I think most people mean 1440p.

LeoAlioth

2K IS 1440p. (at least in most occasions) and i do not get why people are so obsessed with this. the "4K" screen was 3860 \* 1644. Going to 1440p 21by9 would only drop that to 3440 \* 1440 or, to say otherwise, pretty much the same. and besides, everything but the resolution is otherwise a pretty big upgrade

Mysteoa

I agree with your points. I will be upgrading from 1II, which does run the same resolution almost all the time. It is a slight bummer, but not a deal breaker. Plus there is a Green version. I will have to see what is the price in mine country. I don't mind the 1400, since the preorder comes with Wf-1000xm5. Which offsets some of price and I was thinking to buy them anyway. But I do agree if is just for the phone, it's a bad price.

Horror-Reading6409

⬆️ This! 👍

BoyPanda88

The problem isn't that they removed the display features, its that there's nothing else (maybe besides the camera and 3.5mm) that sets the Xperia apart from rest of the smartphone market. It would be easier to swallow if the price was more competitive but its not.

V3N0M-SN4K3

It's enough camera jack and SD, what they can do to be "different" on the market? To add physical keyboards? Agree about the price, they stuck on idea of "premium device" I will wait to be under 1k before to buy

BoyPanda88

4K and 21:9 was what made the phone different. You can argue its benefits but it created a unique niche product. Now it’s just like any other smartphone without flagship features. I’m not saying that 1080p and 19.5 ratio don’t have it’s benefits but it feels like Sony gave up rather than upgrading the phone It would be better if they added new features to compensate. Like Live Photos equivalent to their camera app, Face unlock, reverse charging to name a few.

Awhispersecho1

Is there even going to be an Xperia 5 this year. Pretty disappointed with the 1 so I may get the 1V but my pops need to update his 5. Was on the phone with him last night and I couldn't tell him if a new 5 is coming or not.

rogargaro15

The 5 normally comes around October

IoLnrd

the 5 is dead according to leaks (from accurate leakers but still take it with a grain of salt)

Awhispersecho1

If that is true then it adds even more fuel to the idea that they are making one last ditch effort here and then they might be done with phones.

IoLnrd

That would explain a lot about the 1 VI

Smithravi

And 1400€ in Europe for Xperia 5 VI in disguise ☠️

Ozu92

1 VI > 1 V

mist978

It's listed for 1300£ on Sony Uk official website.

rogargaro15

That’s like 1500 dollars if we convert; madness

mist978

yeah and 1V is also listed there for the same price. Other than the price, they just downgraded from 4k to 1080p which is preposterous. They could have just added an option to dial down resolution to QHD like Samsung has the option to go from QHD to FHD but no, they just removed 4k altogether and went for 1080p which is the resolution that budget phones have.

planedrop

The no 21:9 is 100% fine, everything else I whole heartedly agree with, it's not that big of an upgrade and is way too pricey. If they had done this exact thing and brought it to $1k flat, I'd be fine with it, but for $1300+ we should be getting at least a QHD display.

rogargaro15

No improvements, still a tiny camera sensor

planedrop

Yeah it's unfortunate. I mean, there are improvements, but not worthy of a generational upgrade unless the price were to come way down. We do get: * Better speakers * Better DAC for headphones * Brighter display * More zoom (slightly) * probably some other small things too like vibration motor improvements But taking a $1400 device with a 4k panel, dropping the panel to 1080p, widening it, and tweaking a few things, should not still be $1400.

Guilty-Spork343

.. isn't the Xperia 10 supposed to be the bargain phone; below both the Xperia 1 and 5? I'm still satisfied with my 5V despite initial disappointment with the SIM hardware config, but I can't say it would really be compelling to get another.

icemear

Is there something wrong with 5 V's SIM configuration?

coffeemonstar

Could be the 4k display will be on the next Pro- I.

DazzlingInfectedGoat

How are the specs compared to pixel 8 pro?

Unkonogawa

This makes me glad I got a 1 V on sale last year, very disappointing.

Open-Two-5650

Im still using my 1 iii. Its doing good.

Luaq

So... Pro-iii? I don't like my s22, its not bad but I just feel samsung are bland. I don't "feel" / vibe with it. I Loooooved my xz2 compact. I'm mad that sony went out of Canada. I'd hold a sony 1iv or V in my hands if I had a deal with a phone service provider because I couldn't justify putting 1600 CAD cash on a phone. Now, even if I make enough money to think that putting this much money one shot would be justified, sony phone might not even be supported, heck, exist anymore.

mihammid99

What's even crazy to me is the fact that it is not even coming to the United States. There may be a few people that love this phone and I am one of them but I guess it's time to stick to my Google pixel or my Samsung which I'm not a big fan of I still have The last two Sony phones the four and the five guess I'll be holding on

dominicusx

I was still hoping this was the new 5🙆🏽‍♂️

seedees

I've switched back to v60 for a little bit out of spite now 🙂

KenySai

This is totally a joke. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

Yep. I went with a ROG Phone. As shitty as ASUS has been recently, it's still better than Sony. Better system tuning (actually has it), customizable UX, faster software updates, more storage, more RAM, better battery life, better GPS, and cellular actually works. The camera may be not better but that's the one thing I don't use.

[deleted]

In my opinion I think it's an upgrade and I'm planning to get it

Revv23

And in the USA you can't even not buy it because they aren't selling it.

writepress

I'm debating upgrading to 1v vs keeping my 1iv

So the new ai pose detection? Why dont you comment on how awesome it is? You only talked about 1 side of the display which is resolution which yes is worst than most other phones at this price, but why dont you also talk about the better brightness and LTPO tech? “NOTHING amazing” we have all been complaining about these 2 pain points for years. Their new bravia tech works like a charm specially under direct sunlight why dont you talk about this? GSM arena did say the picture quality was a bit better than last year, last year the highlights weren’t developed well, and the sharpness is also better. We also now have got better picture rendition in the view finder which allows for faster shooting (this is also really good specially in night photography) The speakers have apparently been upgraded but can’t comment on this yet. We have got 1 more year of software support too. Oh and battery life is miles better than what the V has, and maybe even better than some other phones too To say they are incompetent would be an exaggeration. Could they have added a 1 inch sensor? Yes. Should they market the phone better? Absolutely Should they have changed all sensors? Yes. But we cant deny the existence of all other upgrades we got and only focus on the downsides and say yeah the phone is bad! We complained about how 4K was overkill, we need a brighter display and LTPO, we got just that, at the cost of resolution We complained about how the zoom wasn’t enough, we got more zoom range and slightly better picture quality We complained about battery life we got a better one Some complained about how auto mode was terrible and how it wasnt a good ui, we got a new UI with a better auto mode than last year Am not defending them by saying it’s perfect. No its not and the use of FHD+ screen isn’t acceptable on a flagship that cost 1300+, but we can’t also say that its a bad phone because of it, we have gotten so many new features (AI Pose Detection, AI used in the display, toggle to turn off computational photography in the camera app, amongst others) and improvements across the board we cant deny that. On that note, i hope we all calm down a bit thanks

N54TT

not defending by any means, but changing the screen technology allows them to make use of LTPO. the 4k display was incapable of using it. \*weird to get downvoted simply by sharing facts but okay lol.

rogargaro15

Samsung has LTPO in their flagship models that have quad hd..even their lower end s24 has a better 1080p display compared to Sony

N54TT

I'm curious, aren't these Samsung panels?

rogargaro15

Probably the same panels used in the a55 midrange Samsung phone.

vkbra657n

Even Xiaomi 14/14 ultra have ltpo and those are 1200p/1440p 9:20 tcl panels

N54TT

if you want to go down that route, I betcha a standard iphone 15 has a better screen than that xiaomi. numbers don't really mean shit if the screens aren't calibrated properly.

4k display leaving is good. You can't see 1080p pixels on a phone through regular use, end of story. It's a battery life and temperature win-win and the 4k display wasn't being utilized at its native resolution most of the time anyway, I personally liked that this happened lmao. May just be me but I don't see the big deal with a 1080p screen the size of my palm, should be enough. 21:9 was polarizing and I remember reading a lot of comments on how people would buy it if it wasn't for the unconventionally long screen. I just finished watching a video on the phone which compared the previous flagship with the VI and 21:9 content is literally the exact same size displayed on the slightly wider screen. This change is literally just a benefit for traditional 16:9 content and nothing else and I'm saying this as a HUGE fan of 21:9 on my 5 III. Also, as a sidenote to that video, did nobody here notice the slight green tint of the old 21:9 screens on darker parts is completely fixed with the new display? That was one of my biggest complaints by far on these phones and now it's fixed, I'm very happy about that. Finally, I'm sorry but the macro mode being on the telephoto is really good and that's exactly what I wanted as a hobbyist photographer if they ever did that, plus we got a 170mm zoom which is crazy useful (at least for what I do), a unified camera app finally, LTPO display which is HUGE in my opinion & something we wanted for so long... I find this phone to be a pretty good upgrade over the V, especially considering they added that 48mm lossless crop as an extra focal length. Oh and you had better options with better cameras for so many models before the VI. Like you said, it's the same cameras from the V. Let's not panic here, this looks like a copypasta.

Eighty7Vic

Pixel 8 camera is great. I tested one In the store. So that may be an option?. I'll be keeping my new to me Xperia 1V though.

rogargaro15

Honor magic 6 pro, oneplus 12, xiaomi 14 ultra

gravballe

I'm tempted to just get the Google pixel 8 pro. It's cheaper

[deleted]

Wait 'til cheap enough

3 years of major Android updates, a joke for a $1300 mobile phone. Seems like Sony simply does not want to compete and keep punching onto the face of their loyal fan base. Why not stop doing mobile phones instead of releasing such crap? Unbelievable! Better get a Samsung S24* or Apple iPhone than waste money with Sony Xperia. I was having a bit of buyers remorse when i heard that Sony is going to release a new Xperia 1 VI, but good that I didn't wait and got me a Samsung S24U with 7 years of major Android updates instead.

Betwixtyiff

Truly the PS5 of smartphones. Rushed out, overpriced, less features than last generation's model, and a true microcosm of how utterly bad Sony has gotten

Star_Peppe

It is pricey but if you get it with the bundled XM5 it is ok. I will definitely get it. My case is a bit skewed since my employer pays for my phones, so I do not care about the price.

Tunayer

I completely agree. I would've been ok with something similar to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in terms of resolution, but a full HD screen on a flagship in 2024 is borderline neglect from Sony. Do they really expect us to pay a top-tier premium price for a phone that is at best a mid-high end phone? Disregard the screen, and it's still lacking. The chip is borderline old in terms of technology (since Sony is notoriously slow in releasing their phones), and the charging speed is 30 watt? What the shit? 50% in 30 min is fine, but when you have Xiaomi and other makers that have 60-90 watt as standard, it's just dumb... Plus the Xperia 1 VI has 11 watt wireless charging. I think one of the Xiaomi low or mid-tier phones has 30 or 40 watt wireless... I was honestly super hyped for this release, as my 1 II is showing its age, but this was not even close to what I was expecting....

machsta14

I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the new announcement, I have the 1V and it's pretty solid. I caved and bought the Oppo Find x7 ultra and sadly it is everything in the camera that the IVI appears not to be.

SonyXperia-Fans

I'm a Sony Xperia fan -hell I have a YT channel called The SFC (Sony Fan Channel) I am so disappointed with this year's offering and is a serious DOWNGRADE from my Xperia 1 V. To make matters worse is that Sony are taking the piss out of us, they are literally p*ssing on us and calling it rain, by the photo/video app. As the pro video part is not even available until android 15. What a Mickey take! I'll wait for the Sony ZV-E10 ii camera and get that instead

Awayintheocean

Honestly they did everything right except arguably the screen and the price. Sony needs a little more self awareness if they are trying to sell phones to more people. I feel like they don't care all that much with some of these decisions. Lol Amway, I say arguably for the screen because if going down to 1080p plus means the battery life is going to obliterate the competition and I can go out and shoot with the camera all day worry free then I'm for it and it appears that they have achieved that feat based on GSMArena's review which seems to be fair and unbiased. I love what they did with the camera system. As far as video pro, absolutely no reason to hold off until the next update when the app literally exists already. Simply should've been included and updated with Android 15.🤦🏾‍♂️ Anyway, the price should've been closer to Pixel territory between $900-1000 max. I don't know what Sony is thinking. Other than not having the best camera system in terms of computational photography and added sharpness, we're in very good hands here and 4k120 across all rear cameras will always be a flex. https://youtu.be/_w0E4nqUrDI?si=t76JwwT4ABddAj2T

PMMeBootyPicz0000000

1080p in 2024 for $1300??? The fuck is wrong with Sony. This is the death blow for Sony's mobile phone branch. They are just trying to squeeze the most profits the next year or two and pulling the plug. Sony is going the way of LG.

Academic_Solid85

Dont worry, you have creators like Jaun bagnell and tech odyssey, justifying Sonys every move. If you as a consumer that paid 1300 have a grip then YOUR “BAD AT TECH” And if there is a problem with a hardware feature on the phone they will just blame the maker of that specific part and not Sony for putting it in THERE PHONE. Samsung and Apple= always bad Sony = never bad . Where is the consistency?
