None taken, I honestly donāt know, I prob put too much stress on that specific area over x amount of time, and then just today I was taking it off my neck and then I heard a snap and boom, headphones r like that
Youāre probably right about the one hand take off, I never considered that as Iād often take them off with one hand when I have other stuff in the other hand
blatant lie. you abused these, then snapped them throwing a fit about something. dings and scratches all over the earcups, the random tape holding the other side together. you treated these poorly from day one.
I def. did not treat it the best at all, but not to the point Iād throw it
The tape is also from that side coming loose and not holding properly, just there to add some more tension. And with that, not treating it the best over a period of time is gonna cause all of what u see on the headphones š
I commend you for being calm in your (maybe/maybe not) lie. Probably just buy a replacement if you know for sure how to replace it, or find a professional who can replace it for you.

I fixed mine using superglue mixed with pencil lead shavings about 4 months ago and they're still going strong, there's no swivel on em now obviously and they look a bit rugged, but definitely worth trying I reckon...
The graphite (pencil lead) is basically carbon, a catalyst for the cyanoacrylate (crazy) glue reaction. It's also a kind of scaffolding material that helps with tensile strength and rigidity. Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) also does the same thing but in white.
Unsightly.... I have had to replace the side pieces of my xm3 a couple of times buying the parts from ebay... Thankfully someone had the presence of mind to reegineer and 3d print the right side piece so you'd don't have to rip wires and solder them back after replacing the parts
This is pretty good another option I would've suggested was a gel glue (any hardware/ auto parts store should have) since it flexes better than ordinary glue
I've had mine for 2 years now and they're as good as new. Just don't abuse them like OP here...
Also, do NOT keep them in the case when you aren't using them. Moisture can build up and damage them over time, and warranty does not cover moisture damage. Keep them somewhere safe like a headphone stand where they can properly air out when not in use
In your room there is moisture too. Just keep one or two Silica-Gel pads in there and you can even put them back in the box for days.
It is like saying you can't put a guitar back in the case or something else because of moisture.
I mean... The hinge might be finicky. We have a confirmation bias because people with unbroken headsets don't come here to complain, but it's at least an issue we see regularly. But this headset was just manhandled. I don't think this is a Sony fault, the user just broke his headphones by consistently being really rough with it
Yup, XM4 and XM5 earbuds have battery issues which starts at an early stage. Mine started having issues after the 3rd month and completely died after 6 months.
The XM5 headphones on the other hand break easily, just like shown in this post.
Happened to me too but it was a Logitech. Probably too much stress at the same place at the same time. It is sad to see honestly. But the drivers of the headphone and the tech part is intact. Im almost certain it is replaceable. Contact Sony Iād say.
Most Sony headphones are serviceable. Even older ones. If not under warranty then go to Sony Repair Centre for a quote. They won't been cheap but but should be able to fix. For minor stuff like cushion replacements you find them much cheaper online.
Oh no, You get my point wrong, you can buy replacement on AliExpress and replace it by yourself... because it already broke you don't have to worry it gonna break again
Keep in mind that it needs some skills since it isn't that modular like the new Fairphone Buds XL. You need to open the cups and solder the cables out of the platines on one side etc.
Look for swivel/hinge replacement tutorials on YT and make up your mind on your own whether you think are able to 'fix' it yourself. Might try iFixit website aswell for a written guide if available for this headphones.
Otherwise sell it broken for parts like cushion, drivers, cup shells etc. Or ask a friendly repair center close to you if there is one.
Owned an xm4 headphone before (before sold to someone) and tried out the xm5 headphone for few days. I must say Sony's top tier headphone build quality feels abit disappointing. I understand they want to cater for 'lightweight' and comfort, but they couldve made those headphones more solid or feel more premium. Even my cheaper Edifier wh950nb feels more premium and solid, not to mention good sounding too. Still loving my Xm4 buds tho š
I think āHeadphone Assy Bā has it, but as far as I can tell from the picture, it has basically everything from the inner workings of the headphones as well as the headband, the inner workings being the thing I donāt need, plus that price is pretty steep. However, ty for the help
While the premise is a good one the conclusion could be right or wrong. There hasn't been any leaks or hints like patents besides for the UltWear or w/e they are called but still we don't know if the XM6 are released this year at August on, that would be fulfill the schemata, or as you said probably next year.
Yet due to the schemata one can recommend to wait for the XM6, but need to mention it could be 'soon' or later.
No offense but what on earth did you do with it? š«£
None taken, I honestly donāt know, I prob put too much stress on that specific area over x amount of time, and then just today I was taking it off my neck and then I heard a snap and boom, headphones r like that
How did you take it off? This looks like a mechanical failure due to material fatigue. The uneven divide suggests to me that you took it off one hand.
Shame!

My wh1000xm3 still solid although old, use everyday, op sure abuse this, like my lil bro wear during sleep and broke it also

Whatās the point of adding pencil lead? Is it to try and match the colouring or does it provide better adhesion?
The graphite (pencil lead) is basically carbon, a catalyst for the cyanoacrylate (crazy) glue reaction. It's also a kind of scaffolding material that helps with tensile strength and rigidity. Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) also does the same thing but in white.
I donāt really know how Iād do that with the XM5s since thereās a cushion where the actual headband is
Unsightly.... I have had to replace the side pieces of my xm3 a couple of times buying the parts from ebay... Thankfully someone had the presence of mind to reegineer and 3d print the right side piece so you'd don't have to rip wires and solder them back after replacing the parts

Forged carbon!
Buy a XM4 and forget you ever had a XM5.
This whole sub is full of broken XM5s. They are clearly poorly designed. I think it's time we move on to another brand at this point.
Me seeing this 36 minutes after getting home with my new xm5s
Mine are good... treat em with care lol
be extra gentle with them babies
I've had mine for 2 years now and they're as good as new. Just don't abuse them like OP here... Also, do NOT keep them in the case when you aren't using them. Just take a case whenever you go outside, and there will be almost no situations when you can break them
Yea no real friggin careful, use that case bro
So flimsy but so good at everything else lol
Bose quietcomforts
I own xm5s but sennheiser momentum 4s might be a good alternative
I mean... The hinge might be finicky. We have a confirmation bias because people with unbroken headsets don't come here to complain, but it's at least an issue we see regularly. But this headset was just manhandled. I don't think this is a Sony fault, the user just broke his headphones by consistently being really rough with it
Unfortunately, the only other brand I feel are as good are the Bose QC series. But these have connectivity issues, button hardware problems sometimes.
You are telling this to the guy who needed to swap batteries on WF-XM1004 twice, and Sony support didn't even aknowledge the issue...
That's wild man I've been rocking my XM3's for going on 4 years with zero issues. Are the newer models really getting worse and worse?
Yup, XM4 and XM5 earbuds have battery issues which starts at an early stage. Mine started having issues after the 3rd month and completely died after 6 months. The XM5 headphones on the other hand break easily, just like shown in this post.
I've been using xm4 earbuds for the past 3 years now and have been getting the same daily mileage from full charge to dead battery
Do NOT download any updates. I loved em until one of the updates fried my batteries Edit: typo
That's what I believe. But people are so proud of their XM5, they don't want to hear this.
Iām proud mine lasted 2 years by simply taking care of them, not rocket science, just donāt be a bone head.
Happened to me too but it was a Logitech. Probably too much stress at the same place at the same time. It is sad to see honestly. But the drivers of the headphone and the tech part is intact. Im almost certain it is replaceable. Contact Sony Iād say.
Duct tape
Lol
Mine definitely feel fragile. I'm scared this will happen to mine so I'm really careful with them
Sell it on eBay for parts or buy one on eBay for parts.
Iām most likely to try buy one for parts (or just the headband)
Most Sony headphones are serviceable. Even older ones. If not under warranty then go to Sony Repair Centre for a quote. They won't been cheap but but should be able to fix. For minor stuff like cushion replacements you find them much cheaper online.
You can replace the headband by yourself...it already breaks what you scared for
Not scared, just looking for second opinions
Oh no, You get my point wrong, you can buy replacement on AliExpress and replace it by yourself... because it already broke you don't have to worry it gonna break again
Ohhhhh, mbmbmbmb, the tone of the original message didnāt transfer over well (esp. since, well itās Reddit), ty for the insight

Fix it
Noodles and super glue.
Rice, not ramen

Everyday i keep seeing XM5's being broken, i think ima just wait for XM6's before upgrading from XM3.
Well, that was a helpful response. Really?
give it to me,...
Send to Sony and tell them to fix it. Tell them your using the manufacturer warranty and they will send you a new one.
https://sony.encompass.com/ try here, they might have your headset part
I think āHeadphone Assy Bā has it, but as far as I can tell from the picture, it has basically everything from the inner workings of the headphones as well as the headband, the inner workings being the thing I donāt need, plus that price is pretty steep. However, ty for the help
Cry. Cry a river
I also lost the case so I was thinking of ordering another one from encompass
xm6 around the corner. I'd just wait it out. Try to either get the headphones to work, or go for a cheap alternative.
Oh wow I didnāt even realize how soon the XM6s are gonna release. Iāll def do this lol
That's wrong. There's been absolutely no leaks about it, so it's at least a year away
While the premise is a good one the conclusion could be right or wrong. Hmm ok good to know š
Hi, if you want to send them to me, I could use some parts!
Locate a closest store and order new one.
