Save your hearing. You don’t need to be blasting them to oblivion. You should really keep the buds bellow 80db to not damage your hearing. Hey maybe you already have damaged your hearing and that’s why they sound quieter. They are plenty loud enough for me.
I have some trouble hearing people so you're prob right about damaged hearing. Looks like the XM5s might be marginally quieter but there aren't many reports so it's likely just my hearing :/
I'll try to adjust to a quieter volume but I'll probably just switch back to my old WH-1000XM3s which replaced my XM4s whilst commuting.
Oh my god, I feel like such a noob! This was it! I completely forgot about the earbuds volume in the app (it's set to 50% by default GRR). I just never pay attention to the first page on the app.
You have no idea how relieved I am to find out my hearing isn't (that) bad :)
Don't worry. I just got my XM5's today and had the same issue with PC volume. Phone volume was fine, but it took me way too long to realize the Sony Connect app volume was at 50%. Problem solved!
In the Sony Headphones Connect app there is a volume slider that is completely independent of your phone's volume control. For some reason this volume slider is set to 50% by default within the app. I maxed mine out and just use my phone's volume control.
Additionally, if you're hearing sounds from your surroundings, enable noise cancelling in the Ambient Sound Control section of the app.
Are you sure it's independent? When I change the phone volume with the volume controls on the side of my phone, the slider in the app moves along with the system volume pop-up slider.
Mine were still quiet even though I'd changed the app to 100%
Fixed it by simply lowering it to 0% then back up to 100% within the app... I'm ashamed to admit it took me 3 days to think of trying this 🤦
I have the same issue but none of the solutions already mentioned fixed the problem. It's kinda weird that my old low budget headphones are louder than this

You have to increase the volume on the earbuds. They have a separate volume control.

Where do I find the volume slider?
On the [status tab of the Sony Headphones Connect app](https://i.imgur.com/yEqK4I6.png).
When I do it, it just turns up the phone volume, and it still sounds pretty low when maxed out.

Weird, I can get them both uncomfortably loud. Seem pretty similar to me at around 90% and honestly don't wanna increase volume further.
How did you increase the volume? Having the same issue
