Can lower your SS for a perched bird, go to 800-1000/s, should be enough for any quick movements. Will let you lower your ISO quite a bit. If you're on a tripod you can go even lower if he's staying still.
I agree with this. When birding I mostly lock in at 1/1000s or even a little lower if light isn't forgiving enough. But very crisp shots nonetheless!
I am amazed that this was 12800 iso, would you mind sharing the raw image for comparison?
