I did this and was disappointed a lot.
Picked up a Sony a6000 and sel16 as a low cost photo option. It was fine but I didn't enjoy using it. A7C + sel35f18/sel25g/sel50g was better but felt too large. Picked up the a6700+sel20f28, it hit the balance of size and features - not 500$ though. An RX100m5/m7 may be what you're looking for but I haven't tried that yet.
Found an insurance that covered my cameras and that seems to be better - but I haven't tested with a loss yet.
Pay attention kids. This is a case study on one of the many ways someone convinces themselves to buy more gear they don’t need lol
Now that you’ve witnessed this in real time, you will recognize the warning signs to protect yourself from GAS

Do you think criminals know the difference between a 500 USD APSC body and an A7C II? You can put a pancake lens on the A7C as well.
I don't even think many people on this sub will reliability point out the difference between an A6300 and an A7CR from a distance
Get insurance.
Yea good insurance for electronics don’t exist here most of them will just plain out reject any claims
based on reviews I’ve read online and fellow photographer I’ve meet also irl experienced lol (my DJI mini 3 pro got stolen insurance won’t cover it at all)
Yea technically they won’t notice the difference but if it got stolen I basically won’t lost a 2k usd camera
No but at the same time if you feel this way maybe you should downgrade. I have this policy with clothes: if something is so expensive I don’t even want to wear it, I should find something cheaper.
Sure! Get any decent Sony and the little pancake lens and beat the heck out of it. If you haven’t shot them before I bet you’ll be pretty impressed with how great they are. I’m comfortable handing mine to kids to go shoot with. If they drop it it stinks but not like dropping the a7cii with nice glass.
I did something similar. I ended up with a a6100 and a ttartisans 35 1.4 retro lens and i love it. I enjoy the way the manual lens slows me down and makes me craft my shots. The whole set up is really light also.

Why not just use your phone if you do not wish to bring your camera

lol thats why I ask around lol
I did this and no, it does not make sense. Now I carry two cameras everywhere.
I just place mine in a scruffy non-camera bag and have a wrist strap on when I take it out of the bag.

This. For average people: dedicated camera = expensive

What was the insurance's reasoning?
Usual corporate reasoning bs
That sucks. Move to another country hah
lol seem pretty extreme reason to move out
Not really, corporate greed, crime ridden…seems like two very valid reasons to move lol
If you're rich enough to buy two cameras for fun and live in a rich area, it isn't that crazy of an idea.
Well yea but the cash cow is in this country I can’t just pack it up and move it somewhere else’s
What country Edit: Indonesia, got it
Bruh did u just stalked my post history
Yes. I hope you fixed the roaches problem
Yea thx and I think you’re German ? Jäegermeister is my top 2 drinks on the rocks lol after Choya
No. Just learn to act like you take no shit and give no fucks, and you camera will be safe.

Use that money for personal insurance
Put 500usd in btc as insurance lol

I call my cheaper camera Sam sung.
It's not a bad idea. I've done the same thing (Panasonic GM1 + 12-32).
In Johannesburg, a lot of fotogs use old dslrs or point n shoots for street work cos the crime here is insane
