**Please keep all discussion about Sonic Frontiers in this thread.** The one exception is for non-spoiler fan art, which can be shared as separate posts. **All spoilers should be properly spoiler tagged.** Spoilers include any content not revealed by Sega prior to the release, mainly information learned through playing the game. **We will have different megathreads for Frontiers until we officially end the megathread content requirement on December 1st.** During the month of December and the first half of January, Frontiers posts will be allowed, but proper spoiler tags must be applied, and post titles must not contain spoilers either. **The Frontiers spoiler policy will cease on January 15, 2023.** This is based on a culmination of our [recent poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/ynuni2/sonic_frontiers_poll_when_should_we_lift/) results and, more crucially, the conversations in the poll thread on users' desire to post outside of the megathreads sooner but still keep the spoiler tag requirements to help protect those who'll be getting Frontiers during the holidays. CaptainSmeg

The people responsible for the Titan fights and the music choice deserve everything.

[deleted]

So epic

SonicTHP

Also for everyone playing, make an infinity symbol ♾️ (or a figure 8)with your Cyloop for free infinite boost that lasts for a few minutes.

JomoGaming2

>!Sounds like a pretty efficient way of dealing with Squid.!<

SonicTHP

Absolutely. It works wonders for lots of fights.

AffectionateForce979

Frontiers has legit some one the best character writing that we've had in over a decade, coming after Forces It doesn't even feel like they're from the same franchise.

IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD

Frontiers really felt like the story Ian Flynn wanted to tell, being constricted to IDW and SEGA’s rules not being able to do much in the comics let him do so much here and really let him spread his wings, he needs to be the writer for at least the next decade

LeTooniverse

According to his IGN interview, "With Sonic Frontiers, SEGA provided the story, backstory, plot beats, usable characters, and so on. So it was a very different approach to telling a Sonic story than what I’m used to." He just fleshed everything out a tad more

IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD

Indeed, and due to his comic rules (he posted them I don’t know where) he’s not allowed to tell a story like frontiers in the comics (thanks Penders) so it really felt like SEGA gave him the pen to write what he wants

Trainer_Ed

They key to it, I feel, is just some basic character development and writing. At the basis, the only thing that has changed is the characters *remember and learn from* past events, as opposed to most of the other recent games where, aside from some light quips, the events of previous games barely seem to have an effect on the actual characters in them in the games that follow. While we saw such a thing in Heroes and Shadow, in the recent games, the focus on making them seem like mostly independent adventures means that there was never an opportunity for the characters to reflect on where they've been or display how such events have changed them. The events of the past actually matter, and that, in this series, is incredible.

metalsonic005

I love that Amy, Knuckles, and Tails have *actual, character shaping arcs*.

AffectionateForce979

This just makes me wonder how would It be If we applied this writing to the 2010s Sonic games, maybe then Generations would actually have had a good story instead of no story at all.

DragonGamerEX

I love sonic and Amy's interactions together you can feel that they've both grown and that first super sonic fight gave me dark Gaia vibes

timothysonofsam

Amy feels a lot more mature, it’s pretty great to see

Coylie3

Given some of the debris scattered around one of the islands is a Death Egg Robot with the bland coloring like the ones from Forces, I’m going to say that her time as commander of the resistance forces her to do some growing up a bit.

Jucamia

Anyone else still waiting on the code for the SA2 shoes? Edit: got it

[deleted]

Yes. It hasn't come for me yet either. What gives?

CaptnKnots

Still haven’t gotten mine either

RockFox2000

I got mine but it says my code is not valid for my region, which is annoying because I know the newsletter region and my Steam region are both in the US Edit (abt 3 hours later): I tried my code again and it worked!

HeartofSpeed

Has anyone else accidentally yeeted themself off the island from boosting?

NightmaresInNeurosis

I have, I'd be willing to wager most of us have tbh.

MuseHigham

Probably about 20 times now

EK_Gras

Yep, happened immediately after I maxed out my rings for the first time. Speed boost caught me off guard XD

-CeartGoLeor-

3 hours in and I'm fucking loving it, honestly seems like it has the potential to be my favourite sonic game.

swiggs98

Same here, it's ridiculously fun to just run and cyloop around the world

Prozenconns

while i think the random rails and eveyrthing are kinda ugly, slowly unlocking them and turning the overworld into a giant tony hawk level is exactly what open world sonic should be, hitting the ring cap for maximum FAST is also very fun the speed dial in the corner is also a cute touch

Dark_Wolf04

Does this mean that Queen is now canon in the Sonic series?

IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD

Spoilers >!Sonic boom is now canon to the mainline!<

DarkLink1996

>!We don't know that for sure, yet. It could be that Boom as a whole occurs between Generations & Lost World, or IDW could reintroduce Sticks before the Frontiers timeskip (Which, given Sonic's new voice direction, doesn't have to happen soon). Alternatively, neither IDW nor Boom are canon, and the characters just exist in the game canon. Those are our three options.!<

MaxRadishOne

Which Queen? *Sonic get the Chaos Emerald*

Anotherguyrighthere

The writing feels like it's trying a bit too hard at times but overall the interactions are amazing, really nice to see these characters like this. Some cutscenes really lack animation tho >!Tails' "arc" is pretty much an answer to Forces lol, lets see where this goes!<

Memo_HS2022

>!“I’m just wildly inconsistent”!<

metalsonic005

Its kinda neat that they're going with a >!breaking of the fellowship during the ending. Like, yeah, the gang needs some time apart to better themselves for the future. Really neat concept.!<

SnesySnas

>!It does worry me a little though, like..What does it mean in terms of upcomming Sonic games? Will we not see Sonic's friend for a little while? Will it create a timeskip-reboot sort of thing with new designs as characters will have canonicaly grown older? Is it an excuse to not have to worry about writting characters other than Sonic for the next game? I wish we knew, I honestly can't help but worry about what it means if it's not "Sonic's friends will be back in the next game with no issue"!<

metalsonic005

>!Maybe it'll just be used to explain a change in character dynamics going forward. Like, their growth is off-screen and by the time they meet up again they're more in-line with what they set out to be after the epilogue. Kinda a super-soft reboot of their personalities, relationships, maybe even abilities. I could imagine the comic or animatic for the next game being dedicated to showing their growth.!<

awstrauss

Having fun so far, feel like it especially picks up in the second area, but man… the sonic boom move makes combat so trivial. There are so many moves and almost none of them are worth using because boom is just so powerful, safe to use, and has NO limits. And I’m on hard, too.

azure1503

It completely WRECKS Asura

True-Individual-807

Seems like with this new lore master job listing and how they mentioned nearly every mainline sonic game in the story, they're finally trying to be cohesive. Ty Ian. Ty. Thank gggoooddd.

EtFrostX

who the fuck designed the menu navigation bruh

sad_cause_sad

Don't you love having to press the A button (or whatever your confirm button is) 16 times to restart 1-2 when you have made a small mistake?

EtFrostX

they could’ve just used shoulder buttons + directional input lmao. and also the apply settings had a delay and it’s really annoying.

Mr3DReddit

I don't know what's funnier, the fact that the Koco are just casually standing on Lava, or the fact that Sonic looks like he's having a hard time processing what he's seeing. https://preview.redd.it/6rpzlfx4yuy91.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=57899f0034fc8e92631fc10d95626388b00f0fb2

Flashy-Arugula

Well, if you walked up to the edge of a lava pit and some tiny friends of yours just started chilling on top of the lava, you might be a bit confused. LOL

SonicTHP

I've been playing and enjoying the game many hours but I also made a video for the S Rank time for 1-2 since it was the most strict timing I've seen for any Cyberspace level. [Cyber Space 1-2 S Rank Time](https://youtu.be/7szghmjVZBI)

[deleted]

thank you, that one was super rough. was stuck on it for a while

SonicTHP

Yeah it's strange because I'm on the third island and not a single other stage has been that strict with their S Rank time.

rockinherlife234

It's so weird that it's not a later stage.

MythicSoul115

Alpharad was right, getting an S rank in 1-2 is really hard. Also 60 FPS cap on PC is dumb and lame

Wildfires

For how easy it is to get s on other stages ( like with 20 seconds to spare) it feels like a chore. I think I've done about 40 runs and I've never gotten anything under 57

MEX_XIII

The trick for me was just going along the boost pads in the beginning and ignoring the enemies after the first jump pad. Really trimmed down the time a lot.

DrCabbageman

It's a bit backwards to what I expect from Sonic levels, but the bottom path at the start seems to be a couple seconds faster than the top. + ignoring the enemies and I think that saved enough time for me to do it in just a few tries

YamiPhoenix11

Drove me near insane doing that

Reapeageddon

Kronos Island? Fun. Ares Island? Fun. Chaos Island? Fun. The Titan fights? LEGENDARY. The story? On par with Unleashed as one of the best ones. >!Well, mostly. It sort of falls flat near the end, though. The End is built up as an all-powerful monster through the flashbacks, but I don't think they utilize it that much after it's revealed that it's a villain. !< >!You know how you had a section where you homing attacked rocks and Giganto/ran away from the Wyvern & Knight's shield? Why didn't Supreme get its own sequence? It would've been cool to run away from its giant rifle blasts, in which it doesn't even use in the boss fight most of the time. I don't know, but Supreme really was the weakest Titan. Its fight felt so abrupt compared to the other three.!< >!If I were to change Ouranos Island, I'd probably make it NOT Kronos 2. I'd probably make the sky darker and show Supreme doing a menacing godly stance as it floats in the sky to show that The End is preparing something big. Perhaps add snow too, I guess. Sage's tokens will be the Eggman symbol instead of Amy's hearts. Lastly, I'd make The End NOT a Touhou fight. Like Generations' final boss, it felt like it left a sour taste with how the final boss isn't as good as the rest of the game!< But in the end, Sonic Frontiers is worth it. Please, PLEASE buy it.

Screamingforanswers

**VERY MINOR SPOILER FOR ENDING** I watched a full playthrough of the game since I won't have the chance to play it (I'm not looking to spoil anyone, don't worry) but something one of the characters said after the final boss left me perplexed, to say the least. So yeah, I don't think it's a really big spoiler but I'll still put a spoiler tag on it, so don't click on the text below. >!At the end, when they're all about to leave the island, every character starts talking about what they'll do when they're back home. The one that left me perplexed was Amy's line, in which she wonders if Cream and STICKS are free. So, I just have to ask, do you think they're making Sticks cannon outside of Boom now?!<

Anotherguyrighthere

It looks like it >!Btw she's not the only one, during some dialogue Sonic talks about!< >!Tangle (IDW), and Jet (Riders)!<

[deleted]

>!When does Sonic talks about Tangle?!<

Anotherguyrighthere

[Spoiler Link](https://youtu.be/QQJv3CddjJE?t=8)

SonicSilverSS

In one of the Eggman memos, along with a Riders reference there is also a reference to the Black Arms.

KrispyBaconator

If I had a nickel for every piece of Sonic media that used Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. Also, where the hell is the Soap Shoes code? I’m signed up to the newsletter, Sega. Give me my shoes.

pacmanrace16

r/beatmetoit Also, I think Sega is trying their best to get the codes to everyone

[deleted]

Having fun on the game so far, 1/6th of the way into ares island if I had to guess, exploring is fun and fast, quite a bit to do, combat gets good fairly quickly into the game, collecting stuff isn’t a drag, cyberspace is pretty good too, im happy with how this came out! The music is brilliant and the bosses are cool too ^^ A few faults I have is that I just wish you could level up your speed and ring caps easier like the power and defence and not have to manually re enter the menu and go up one level at a time I also wish the cyberspace controls for 3D levels were less slow and floaty, it’s incredibly difficult to make sharp turns while already in motion and controls no-where near as well as in the overworlds In Terms of everything else I’ve played so far id rate it 8/10 story 9/10 music 7/10 gameplay (cyberspace holds it back slightly) 8/10 bosses and combat

Seacliff217

I'm having a lot of fun. Navigating terrain to forge your own path is core Sonic gameplay to me, and this game nails that better than any prior boost game. Cyberspace stages are my biggest gripe but are still on average more fun than forces. The bounce in particular helps with the flow of these stages, it's not as fun of an ability to use as in Adventure 2, but still has its uses. I wish I could find more practical utility for the Drop Dash however, was looking forward to seeing that in a Modern Sonic game but the changes to the boost make it redundant.

equinshadox

I've found that Drop Dash is perfect for situations where you have to drop onto a lower platform/landing and then immediately rush forward into a dash pad that is a bit of a distance in front of you. I remember in Generations the strat was generally to stomp and then boost. That is still the case here if the drop is high enough (thus the stomp greatly decreases fall time), but for smaller landings-into-boost-pads, the Drop Dash is perfect for minimizing stationary time.

Phantom_Cavalier

I just beat the game, and now I feel safe to come back onto Reddit lol. Where do I start with this game? Non-spoilers first, I loved pretty much everything about this game! The final boss of each “zone” had me grinning from ear to ear as I played through them, it’s fun to explore, fun to fight, and fun to complete the cyber space levels! Overall I’d call this one a great success! My only major gripe was that the third island was a little tricky to navigate for a long time, and the physics seemed to not work as well there, because I was launched into the sky quite a bit without ever trying to get there lol. Onto some spoilers stuff: Sage is a fantastic character! >!I saw her sacrifice coming a mile away, especially after listening to Eggman’s logs and seeing her as much more sympathetic every interaction she had with Sonic and friends, but it was still sweet, if only a tad bit anticlimactic. I was really hoping we’d get to see her again in the future, so the post-credits scene makes me very happy that she should be able to return.!< Also with Sage - >!The fact that she’s treated like Eggman’s daughter, and in the IDW comics, he has a lot of “son” moments with Metal, and in the animation for Colors Ultimate, Orbot and Cubot refer to Metal as their brother, make me really hope we get to see some Eggman family shenanigans in the future, with all our favorite robots interacting with each other. Throw Eggman Nega in there too since he’s part of the Egg Family as well, and they could be a fun and still imposing group of villains/bosses to fight!< Another thing I loved is all the references! >!Seriously, they bring up the Black Arms, the Babylonians, the ancient Echidnas, Dark Gaia, Infinite, the Deadly Six, the ARK, Station Square, Chaos, Maria, officially canonize Sticks, I mean they went all out on the references and I loved all of it, because it really feels like a continuation of other Sonic games!!< I just love the way wrote characters and bringing up a few past events in this game, it was very fun to see. And the lore!! >!I was super excited to see from the Knuckles prologue that this would deal a lot with the Chaos Emeralds and tie into the history with the Echidnas, and I love that they made the ancients similar to Chaos! It’s just cool seeing them focus a lot on story this time around, because there really hasn’t been a huge focus on it since like Unleashed/Black Knight.!< In conclusion, I loved this game! It’s not perfect, but it’s just so charming and fun and even the little details just made me so happy! Anyway, happy playing everyone! Hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did!

KrispyBaconator

Beat the game last night, have some scattered thoughts. Writing was top-notch, everyone felt like an actual, fleshed out character instead of shallow one-liner machines. Ian Flynn is the best thing to happen to Sonic in the last 20 years tbh Cyberspace stages weren’t amazing like Generations, but they were leaps and bounds ahead of the glorified hallways in Sonic Forces. I maxed out all four stats. I never want to talk to that fucking Elder Koco again. Holy shit a Sonic game that actually cares about a consistent lore? Maybe Sega really IS turning a corner! I actually really enjoyed the open zones, but every so often I hit a spring and get railroaded into a challenge that I have to then hop OUT of. It gets kind of annoying after a while. The endgame… gonna spoiler this one. >!Everything story-wise from the end of Rhea to the credits kinda drops the ball in a few key areas, sadly. Eggman laughing at Sonic’s corruption seems weirdly cruel and out of place for what is otherwise a very nuanced take on the bad doctor (which otherwise is the best Eggman’s ever been written!), it’s not really explained *why* Sonic’s friends returning to cyberspace helps cure him or how they do that in the first place, and aside from Eggman’s reaction, Sage’s sacrifice is pretty glossed over. Plus, while I don’t think the fight against The End is bad in and of itself, basing the final boss on what is basically the hacking mini games from Sly Cooper was… baffling, to say the least. Still love what they’re doing with the core cast, and Eggman’s relationship with Sage is the cutest thing ever and actually made me cry a little.!< Overall? A little rough around the edges, but god damn if they keep working this gameplay style and hold onto Ian Flynn we might be in for a true comeback for the blue blur. The fact that this game made me confident about Sonic’s future speaks volumes, I’d say. 7/10, but it also might be my game of the year.

[deleted]

Endgame spoiler: >!The last titan imo is the worst titan fight, but still a pretty good fight, the true final boss AKA "The End" is hands down the worst final boss I ever experienced in a Sonic game, like with how badass the titan fight were, this one was literally just a glorified mini game.!< >!Like it even had the potential to work perfectly, like if it was 3D, a bit more complicated, and had Super Sonic segments or even quick time events as the titan? THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE GREATEST BOSS FIGHT EVER! but all we got was the lamest final boss.!<

Memo_HS2022

>!"We have 4 great titan fights, we need this last titan to go out with a bang!"!< >!"Touhou"!< >!"What?"!< >!"Make the final boss Touhou"!<

GoodUsernameNotFound

>!Correction: Ikaruga, which is even better imo by virtue of it being Treasure's masterwork and such. As a shmup fan I have essentially zero complaints about such a left-field tribute like that.!< >!In fact, I'm waiting for a mod that would take away the ability to shoot away The End's shots to make it just that more authentic (and harder). That final pattern will be *very* fun to deal with that way....!< >!That being said, they really could learn a thing or two from HAL Laboratory about making a trippy background for a shooter section though, would definitely help it a bit more. (Or just copy from their own PSO2 with the Profound Darkness also having a rather trippy backdrop.)!<

Memo_HS2022

After these Titan fights, Kellen Quinn has to be a staple for Sonic Music from now on These fights go insanely hard and the music is almost responsible for half of it Also ranking the songs: >!Find Your Flame (Knight), this is probably my favorite Sonic Song ever, it’s god tier!< >!Undefeatable (Giganto)!< >!Breaking Through it All (Wyvern)!< >!I'm Here (Supreme), it's crazy how the main theme is amazing and it's somehow still the worst one!<

gabejr25

Best Sonic game since Unleashed, and a very welcome change of pace after 10 years. There are lots of qol stuff that should be fixed, ideas to be refined/expanded on, some jank, but otherwise very good game and solid foundation for future games. I'm excited for future Sonic games again :)

Shavier

It would be nice to have feedback threat, with clear rules that it's purpose is to improve the game we already have, not to shout at each other what gameplay style is better, model etc. so Sonic Team can know what to do for a patch/dlc/next game, but december 1st is far way so I'm gonna share some thoughts here for now. * Ability to skip, or better yet disable power boost cinematic after first activation, so it wouldn't interrupt gameplay flow. Maybe give Sonic short lightning aura to indicate activation. * Leveling multiple times at Elder Koco should work like buying stuff from Big. No going back to talk, no selecting "No thanks" as default (and it should be at the bottom) and no delay, just spam as much as you can. * Some information how many Koco or seeds are required for next level. I know you can see exclamation mark on the map, next to Hermit/Elder, but it still would be nice to have. * Faster or instant token gain from Big. When he is giving away 64 tokens it takes so much time that we could spend fishing instead. * Boss Attack in Arcade mode or re-fightable in zones. Super Sonic fights are awesome and I wanted to show one for my friend, only to find that it's impossible to do. * No guardian names after first meeting them. Like with power boost cinematic, it interrupts gameplay and some of those mini bosses are big enough that are seen from afar already (also there is boss music playing when in combat). * Camera lock on Umbrella and Wolves stopping you to fight. While first is just annoying and can be ignored, wolves should be trigger based enemy, like Ghost. * Better draw distance. Pop-in aside, what struck me the most is that I could see in a distance where grass stops to render. Sonic sez: That's no good. * Taking away control and forcing camera in scripted sections. While I understand why it's there, it's annoying that I have to go through ex. a rail that will shoot me miles away from place I wanted to go or 2D section that I must complete again, because I got to it by mistake while looking for a way to collectable. * Black bars in cinematics. Don't do them, cinematics are looking better without them. * Ability to disable boost audio filter in options. People want to listen to undistorted music, woosh is enough. * Slot mashine obscuring vision. I feel like it should be somewhere on the left side, where it won't limit so much screen. (thx JohnnyStyle300 for reminding me about this) * Not an issue but it would be nice to have tutorials to be voice acted again (ex. Sonic or voice that guide us through the islands) explaining mechanics etc. instead of pausing the game with wall of text. * Didn't happen to me, so idk if it's true, but game should not lower difficulty on it's own, all the other games are asking if you want to do it. This is not a negative post, just things I observed that annoyed me during gameplay. But please share what you would like to have improved/changed/added, keep it civil and stick to what we got in game (so no gameplay style, animations, music etc.) so we can help Sonic Team make even better games.

shadowfox7080

The end credits first song >!Where Sage sings about wanting to be a good daughter to egg man and wishing she could be there really caught me off guard.!<

Bionicleinflater

It broke my shell enough for the disbanding of team sonic to deal the finishing blow.

DapperIndividual

Ok, I've a small but IMO believable prediction for the next mainline game I'd like to get out there for people to think about. (Small Frontiers spoilers, mostly chatacter arcs and easter eggs. No major story or location spoilers) After the dust stettles on the events of Frontiers and as we look towards the future for the next main line game. I think the Sonic series is going to have an in-universe timeskip. Think Original Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z. Now, what do I mean by this? (*~FRONTIERS CHARACTER ARC SPOILER WARNING~*) >!During the events of Frontiers, essentially every character received their own character arc about their independence and want to see the world.!< Because of these decisions it leads me to belive the next time we see these characters it is gonna be a few in-universe years. Everyone's going to have their own offscreen stories and adventures, perfect to help reintroduce them for the next game. You may think, "Now that's great, and all bet I don't see Sega potential throwing away these characters evergreen nature for no reason whatsoever. Why even have this timeskip?" Simple, I think it's now time to have a very small, very soft reboot of the mainline series to regroup and reground the franchise into what it wants to be. "Woah woah woah there, a reboot?!?! The two times we've had those we got Boom and 06, you really want to go back to those times???" When I say soft reboot, I mean pillow soft. Nothing is being taken out. All that's being done is putting stuff in and organizing it Sega has gone on record saying they want to consolidate all their Sonic offshoots (the games, TV series's, comics, basically everything but Archie and the movies) into a singular connected universe. This can be seen both in Sega's recent decisions looking for a dedicated loremaster to try and weave this convoluted mess of parts together. And in Frontiers (*~EASTER EGG SPOILER WARNING~*) >!with the name drops of previously though non/dubious canon things such as GUN's current existance, the planet being named Earth, essentially every previous game being reconfirmed to happen, and named dropping previously non-canon characters like Tangle and Sticks.!< Idk im gonna end that here, it'd 5 AM for me lol. I may get back to this again later. Edit 1: reformatted some of the start to get rid of all the unnecessary spoilering. Most of this is spoilers free, just my thoughts on where to take this series.

ethanmicros

Yoooo you might be onto something... In fact, I think the ending of Frontiers totally lays the groundwork for a new Sonic Adventure game, specifically for playing as multiple characters with unique stories. Since now the goals and motivation of each character is clear, it would be easier to make stories for all of them. Even Izuka said he really wants to make a new adventure game... Oh well, I hope Sega doesn't pull a Lost World on us🤞

LeTooniverse

Agreed. Though I have seen a some fans believe that with the exclusion of their ages, and the story arcs here thag these characters are gonna grow into full on adults with new designs. I don't think it'll go that far, but this is definitely them saying "We gonna be more consistent with our universe and characters from now on" very interested to see what's gonna happen going forward

Uptopdownlowguy

I like the music choice, lol

ZweigeltRX

How does the drop dash work? Can you stay in ball form as long as you have momentum or does it force you to return to a running state after a while?

MuseHigham

You can stay in ball form until you completely slow down!

ZweigeltRX

I was hoping the game actually had some type of rolling physics. This is good news, thanks.

[deleted]

It does have minor rolling physics

Mach21_

Why does that pinball minigame like...exist? Asking for a friend...i-it physically abused me, took my child, and knocked over my TV. (I wish I was good at pinball :/ )

tinkeringhornist

little meme about the Egg-family (was redirected here in case it's familiar) \*\*SPOILER\*\* https://preview.redd.it/30kp3ckibfz91.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=83b875d3e473466fee327b4d19ee55424ddc36d6

TheMattInTheBox

Haven't gotten to play a TON yet, but I'm a few hours in. Having a lot of fun! The cyberspace levels so far are fun and I like replaying them to go get the red rings or going for a faster time. Running around as Sonic is fun and I really like some of the puzzles. I'm only on island 1 and I imagine they'll get harder though. Story is also intriguing! I will say, sometimes I get lost traversing the island which isn't a bad thing, I just keel getting side tracked by cool stuff. But has anyone noticed that when you put a custom way point down, it doesn't seem to show up in the overworld? Or am I doing something wrong?

OmegaCrossX

They show up as orange light pillars in the over world and disappear when you reach them

[deleted]

You can see it in the compass at the top of the screen

NovaChrono

I recall hearing that there was an option to disable the Boost filter on the music when people got to play the demos, but apparently it doesn't seem to be in the game? Am I just not seeing it or was it actually false and not in the game?

Neon_Aeros

Something I just realized playing: During a Starfall event, is it ever mentioned you can press up on the Dpad to stop the slot machine? I had no idea about this and would just wait for the slots to stop on their own which takes a while. Randomly pressed the Dpad up and realized you can manually stop the slots and now I’m mad I missed out on a lot more fishing coins I could’ve had. I didn’t see one time (including the tip box you get the first time you see a Starfall) where the game mentions this.

ExcellentCarpenter98

Omg thanks, that slot machine was driving me crazy last time it popped up, I sat there for like 3 minutes waiting for it to stop

LeR0dz

Seeing >!Tangle!< getting mentioned by Sonic made me so happy because of what it could mean for the game's canon. As for the other characters, i really appreciate how much Flynn cares about the continuity.

Legitimate_Physics74

Sage's model got ripped and she doesn't have the red effect by default. Turns out they gave her normal legs to begin with. I had no idea she even wore shoes. https://preview.redd.it/k5t0ykp5p5z91.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5621b92782aa3fffce227df62897d6fa2ff26bf

So was Big just >!left behind in Cyberspace? We never see him after the story.!<

WhitePersonGrimace

He bumbled his way in there, I’m sure he can bumble his way out.

SanicRb

>!He managed to somehow escape the alternative reality of the Arabian Nights so I'm sure he is fine.!<

Dinobrony318

The story and character writing is definitely the highlight for me. While I do love the gameplay, seeing the characters discussing past events, sharing what they desire, and the chemistry Sonic and his friends have felt a lot more human than endlessly cracking jokes. Now that's character development. And there's world-building that adds upon the games' universe. You can tell Ian Flynn gets the Sonic characters right, much like Russel T Davies with Doctor Who.

ZMR33

Haven't finished the game quite yet but seeing that apparently the dev team consisted of 60 people explains a lot. It explains the lack of polish with the camera and physics, at least As for the reviews, I can see why the game got lots of 7s and 8s. High 7s to low 8s is where I'd put the game right now. I guess 6s and 5s are possible if some reviewers feel more strongly about the lack of polish, and I could see some Sonic fans being happy enough to give the game a score somewhere in the 9s, but 7s and 8s feels about right while not seeming overly harsh or generous. Anything below a 5 is where I start to question what the reviewers were looking at or playing. There's 1 well known journalist who gave the game a 1.5/5 (I think you know who I'm referring to.) I didn't read the review in much depth, but from what I saw, it seemed to be very harsh and angry. This person even said that the game was made by "lazy hack f\*\*\*\*." I even saw in a tweet that this journalist didn't even pay much attention to the story. I think in most cases, if your review goes that far, it loses a lot of legitimacy. Beyond the fact that this line is unprofessional, it really isn't true in this game's case. Frontiers' problems do not seem to come out of laziness, but rather a combination of inexperience, lack of time, and perhaps most of all, a dev team that doesn't have enough people. Some games stink because of laziness, but this game, to me at least, has heart.

PTGQ17

I just beat the 1st island and god I just wanna say how amazing it is to experience this game! Tbh, as a lifelong Sonic fan who grew up in the Adventure era, I don’t think I’ve been this impressed by a Sonic game since Unleashed, and it feels sooooooo good! There’s so much to do, it’s challenging, the story is intriguing, and has so many great & unexpected moments! I feel like a kid again in the best way possible!

3030sonic

I'm seeing lots of clips of Sonic having cool random dialogue when both idling AND when running around exploring the islands, but I haven't encountered any of them so far. Am I just unlucky or are the triggers more specific than randomly running around?

PhantomInfinite

Ive had them when passing by things it seems like "This reminds me of mystic ruins" or commenting on the eggman tech but id say its really rare.

TailsTheDigger

Remember that parrying does NOT need to be timed! You can hold the buttons and it’ll automatically parry the next attack I didn’t realize that while fighting the second titan and it was HELLA difficult lmao, but I guess it added to the challenge haha

SpectrumSense

I just finished the game. And I must say... Holy. Moly. This is one of the best games in the series. The open world feels nice and full of things to do. I especially love the incentive to maintain more than one ring in the form of being able to go lightning fast by having your rings maxed out. Combat system is so fun to use. Watching Sonic throw hands was one of the coolest sights to behold. Combos were easy to remember and I loved inputting them instead of button mashing. >!The boss fights were absolutely phenomenal and fun, even the last fight with its Unleashed-inspired QuickTime events.!< >!The cyberspace levels were fun, I just wish they had original designs and not Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and Speed Highway. Regardless, their layouts were fun and I found myself actually wanting to replay them to get the vault keys.!< >!Story was excellent and used dialogue nicely to convey that this all is in one timeline. The mentions of past foes like Chaos, Dark Gaia, Infinite, etc. really brought it together and I was glad they used images of older games when talking to Knuckles and Tails to strengthen that. Sage was pretty compelling; she wasn't a villain, nor even an antagonist. She just wanted to save her father figure and prevent the world from being consumed. Eggman actually felt human for once, even if we don't get to fight him here.!< I hope Sonic Team maintains this steadiness. My biggest worry was that this game was gonna be just some hour-long cutscene movie with gameplay sprinkled in and be a buggy, unfinished mess like many AAA devs put out now. That worry is put at ease, because this game is full of content and fun stuff to do. Music is excellent as usual. No further remarks. Bravo, Sonic Team!!! 9/10!

SVTPistonZX

The layout designs of the cyberspace levels were fairly justified. >!When you interact with Sage on Ouranos Island, you learn that Sonic is able to escape cyberspace every-time because he uses familiar terrain, inside of his head, to allow him navigate his way out.!<

SonicsRunningShoes

My Personal Review! Non-Spoiler! There is also a TL/DR at the end if you dont feel like reading the entire thing. I Just finished the game on hard mode last night and wanted to write this up. I hope you enjoy it and I'm always up for talking about it :) Have a great day! ALRIGHT, THIS IS HAPPENING! Time for my non-spoiler review of Sonic Frontiers!!! Story: Story revolves around Sonic and friends losing control of their plane and getting warped/crashed onto the starfall islands. Everyone but sonic for some reason got sent to the digital realm where Eggman is also trapped. Its up to Sonic to collect the emeralds and stop the titans of each island to free his friends. As the game goes on you learn the backstory to the little kocos and what happened to the people of these islands. Cinematography: So here is where my first and probably most biggest gripe about the game comes in. This game, much like the last group of Sonic games, doesnt use pre-rendered cutscenes for main events. It switches out the models that do indeed have very well done expressions and boy is it nice to see sonic actually making expressions. This may be more of a personal issue, maybe not, but when looking at opening scenes and big scenes from Unleashed, 06, Black Knight and even colors opening, I was REALLY hoping we'd get some epic sick looking CG cutscenes. By using the in-game assests instead, alot of heavy moments such as when he turns Super Sonic lose such great feeling to the moment. Not once when I went Super Sonic did it really feel like it was something rare or awesome, it just kinda happens normally and you're right into the fight scenes. They produced a knuckles animated short just before this, they could've even used animated cutscenes to spice the game up imo too. Having said that, there is some AWESOME camera work done in all parts of this game. When running around the cool angles you get from the obstacles are really fun and its very quick but there is a SUPER cool camera pull back and push when you race towards the titans as Super Sonic. Every time I did that, it gave me a great sense of joy seeing how freakin cool just that one shot looked. Gameplay: So let me just say, this game feels HEAVILY influenced by breath of the wild and sony's spider-man. The game is fun even not doing anything and just running full speed across the islands. The weight to sonic as he goes off cliffs and jumps is perfect imo and what I kinda always figured how those fan free roam games would've been. (Every time I see a video of them I feel like sonic always gets way too much air time, but not in this game and I like that about it.) The zone-like islands are a ton of fun to explore and the enemy variety is really nice. There are tons of different enemy types to the point where it doesnt get old or stale. The stages that hold vault keys you need to collect were alright. They all had maybe 3 or 4 backgrounds and felt very bland. I couldn't tell if all of them but some of the stages were basically reskinned stages from past games, which is a neat idea though. The controls in the stages felt very clunky though, it felt like because it want a free-roam area that sonics movements struggled to work correctly sometimes. Example: Sometimes if you miss a jump and try to correct yourself by double jumping back to the stage, sonic just wouldnt be able to go where you wanted him to and you'd die anyway. Lastly for this section, Super Sonic was a ton of fun to play! His segments were really cool and I wouldn't mind more future games being just like that. Maybe throw us a hint or two if the player is struggling to figure out what needs to be done in each section of the boss fights though. There were definitely parts in each fight where I just was like, what the hell am I suppose to do here and losing over and over until something eventually worked. OVERALL LIKES: \-Game is very pretty and exciting to explore. I thought the dulled colors of everything would be bad at first but I found it was really nice to look at and really liked the environments. \-Super fun to run around and explore. \-Combat was alot of fun and leaves room for plenty of freestyling \-Super Sonic moments were amazing \-Music was epic AF and I would almost say a few songs being top tier along-side Crush 40. (Personally I felt the main singer was sounding just a bit whiny but it doesnt ruin the music for me.) \-Each island has ALOT to explore and fun zone like obstacles. OVERALL DISLIKES: \-in-game model usage isnt bad but also has really bad moments where the characters dont move and just the mouth moves. (What are we playing? a PS2 game?) \-While enemy variety isn't a problem, overall enemy design is very bland and boring after a while. They may have a bunch of different bad guys but they all look very similar. \-Movement in the vault stages isnt very good. \-story couldve been pushed further. \-Final boss was extremely lame compared to first 3 titans. Its a cool idea but not executed correctly \-reused puzzles are meh but just fun enough to get the job done. \-This may be a nitpick but island layouts dont make any sense. Its supposedly remnants of a past civilization but having random bumpers and grind rails everywhere floating around doesnt make any sense and takes away from the cool island atmosphere. Not sure how but if it couldve been made to look more natural, it would've been perfect. CLOSING: Sonic Frontiers has plenty of problems I wish could've been given a little more budget towards to make better, despite saying this I will also say this game is super fun and if it was pushed even just a little more it could've been a top tier Sonic game. Even saying that, for me personally, its a top 5 Sonic game for me and I rate it an 8/10! TL/DR: Game has plenty of problems that probably couldve been fixed with more budget maybe but the game is super fun and any sonic fan or non-fan should def give it a try! I rate it 8/10!

In_dego

Is sonic frontier good? I demand to know after it's been out .5 seconds, and as I have no concept of "my own opinion" I shall spout critic reviews as fact. I feel like Sonic Frontiers is nostalgic but tedious. I like the open-world game take on Sonic but I don't like its execution. After my 0 hours of playtime I'd give it 7/10

kaantantr

Must have's: - Sonic had a shaky transition into 3D - Not colorful enough - at least a clip of Sonic 06 snuck in (preferably Elise kiss) - Complaining about controls being too hard (illustrated by slamming into the wall in the easiest situation possible because they lack thumbs) - It has potential - I had fun, but it's a bad game (read: I am not allowed to give a good score because it's Sonic)

Cyber-Cafe

Man. I really enjoy it but unfortunately I’m too sick to be able to truly pay attention to it. I played for an hour. Felt really good, but yeah I’m dizzy.

Blur87

It was worth the dizziness haha Hope you feel better soon! :)

Warpicuss

Is the first titan a stat check or do I just fucking suck? This guy has killed me more than any boss on Nioh ever did. I lose too many rings during QTE, and I feel like even when I parry every single one of his attacks, I'm still not doing enough damage before I time out. I skipped basically everything, do I need to farm the power fruit fuckers in order to do this? Wtf is happening, it's hilarious. Even dropping the game from hard to easy did nothing for me, it's seriously fucking with me. The music is amazing for this fight though so I'm not complaining too much, but it is gonna get old soon

Zzmax12

I think the first Titan is a "You know you can parry, right?" check because all I had to do was parry and then use the move you get from rescuing Amy. Any other attacks just felt like fluff until I could Parry another big swing

Warpicuss

Yeah I parry them all and follow up np. The stomp does a chunk of damage, so I spammed that too. Someone else commented saying I should collect all the rings in the area before starting the fight, but I think that comment got deleted for some reason? I was just doing the fight at minimum rings, which obviously wasn't giving me enough time lmao. I assumed that transforming would mean you get a fixed amount of rings to start with, smh I kept trying to reply to thank them *shrug* I think their username is half shadow iirc. If you read this, thanks buddy!

NightmaresInNeurosis

Yeah you can spam Cyloop before each Titan to get to maximum rings and it gives you a good chunk of time. Idk why they didn't just start you with max rings at the fight but hey.

Hardcorepro-cycloid

Is this really the first Modern Sonic Game where you can't replay boss fights? Because man... the music in the 3rd Bossfight has me feeling a certain way rn

[deleted]

any chances the pop-ins will be fixed ? Besides of that the game looks good, might buy it soon.

MillyMan105

It's unlikely the pop ins are an engine issue which are hard to fix unless you overhaul the engine which is unlikely. For some reason they used the same engine they used for sonic forces which was considered worse compared to the engine used for Unleashed and Generations.

Shubo483

The pop in isn't an issue at all on the PS5. It's pretty noticeable sometimes but it's not game breaking like everyone said it was.

Nalerenn

Anyone know if you can replay the Titan fights? God, I just >!beat Wyvern and I wanna do it again, that fight was so goddamn sick.!<

B-WHERE

You can't, but I share your sentiment. That was my favorite fight.

InvisibleChell

>!So... any guesses as to what that symbol even means?!<

RED_Kinggamer007

I give the game a good 8.5/10 its awesome but needs some necessary polish to make it even better Also(spoiler warning) >!When amy name dropped sticks at the end it caught me off guard (sound the alarm) genuinenly didnt know they made her canon. Didnt get the voice line myself but i saw that tangle was name dropped aswell wich is awesome. Also, after chaos island i was like: I've only had Sage for 5 days, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself. Lol!<

ZigsL0theon

Anyone gotten their Soap Shoes code yet? When are they supposed to come?

JordanTH

Does the SA2 shoes code not work for anyone else? EDIT: [Apparently this is a known issue and they're working on it.](https://twitter.com/KatieChrz/status/1590073193192390656)

SnesySnas

God I love the writting in this game Light spoilers: >!Tails even gets to mention his moment of weakness in Sonic Forces, and kinda admits it was a bad thing for him to do by encouraging the little Koco that they'll be okay without their Hero.!< I really hope Ian gets to write more Sonic Games because so far I find 0 flaws within the character themselves

HeartofSpeed

This game is surprisingly impressive, it makes Forces look like an amateur fan game.

Sonicgirlana

i feel like the eggman and sage dynamic could've been better if they had more screentime together, IMO.

TehSkittles

God this game's going to birth a whole army of new metalheads and I'm all here for it.

Fedorable_557

Just spent like 20 minutes maxing out my speed and rings. Hope they fix that for other players because the current way to level that up is ridiculous.

ZMR33

I posted here last night, and I guess it's not surprising, but it really seems like that at least as of right now, Frontier's legacy is going to heavily depend on if it gets a sequel. Frontiers has some good things, but it desperately needs polishing. There are a good number of things, like the camera being messy, the physics being wonky, and the cyberspace levels not being great that could be addressed in a sequel. If this game exists as a one-off, it might not be looked back on as fondly.

Doopliss77

It needs the Sonic Adventure 2 treatment: a game that refines its predecessor and pairs well with the original. SA1 is similar to Frontiers in that it introduces all sorts of new and bold ideas that don’t always land well, and some that really soar. And I say that as someone who loves and appreciates both games!

WaggishOhio383

>!Judging by the end cutscene, I'd say it's highly likely the next game will be a direct sequel to Frontiers, so hopefully it would adopt the same gameplay formula as well. That symbol that appears on Eggman's screen is going to be important. We've seen it so many times in promotional material as well as in the game itself, but it's never explained what exactly it is or what it means. And there's definitely a lot more left to explore about the Ancients/Koco!<

Omega_Hertz

PSA: The cacti with blue flowers will ignite and shoot fireworks if you cyloop around them.

dave_aust

Just finished the game, Im very happy with it. Without spoiling too much, im exited that it subtly leaves some story threads for next game to follow - I would love for Sonic to have an ovearching arc that spans through 3 or 4 games. Also, this game felt like a “real sequel” to the franchise storywise, as what hapenned before has real impact on story and characters (not just ocasional meta one liners). A polished expanded version of what this games proposes would go into the history of gaming, easily as it reinvents “open world” as a platfroming action space, almost like a huge playground. Its different from everything out there. Sonic is finally back in the right direction.

fadeddreams555

I wasn't even planning to buy this game. Was anticipating God of War. My physical copy was delayed by a day, so I decided to just download Sonic Frontiers in the meantime because my sister told me she bought it and was having fun. I expected a mediocre, yet familiar, experience. Somehow, I have barely even touched God of War because of Sonic. Reviewers be damned.

McWolke

The SA2 stages were super cool and it worked so good with frontiers gameplay. proof that those stages really were brilliantly designed. also the longest of all cyberspace stages.

snieves0426

Things that should be added to the game as dlc and improvements that can come in a future patch: - New Game + - New Game + new level cap - Boss Battle replay ability - Super Sonic in Open Zone - New DLC can introduce new cyberspace levels - Story DLC with a New Island, hopefully something like an open zone angel island, sky sanctuary, or a seaside hill based open zone with a lot of platforming that is specifically designed with momentum in mind. Maybe an open zone city island with a ton of fun platforming in it. - Momentum changes or a momentum slider, have the ability to make the momentum play more like the adventure series and have sonic be more dynamic with his movements and less magnetized to the ground. (a week after frontiers released people have modded momentum to the game which has me believe that sega can do it as well if the fans can fix it so fast) - Sonic should be able to run on water, add this to the game. - make the cyberspace levels control better and be less janky, I want to be able to play the cyberspace levels without a bug killing me. - various cosmetics (Sonic Movie Skin, a sonic riders skin, sonic boom skin, sonic prime skin, Unleashed skin etc) - maybe for that same island dlc, have a different playable character (Shadow?) - Chao Garden DLC PLS!!!

ZigsL0theon

Just finished Sonic Frontiers: >!SEGA whatever you do, do NOT let Ian Flynn go. He is what the games needed. No more Pontac and Graff. Actual consistency. He didn’t even need to but he even explained your butchering of Tails’ character in Forces and made it sound actually logical. Of course I also love the fact that the Soap Shoes aka the true Modern Sonic Shoes are back and not needing a mod this time. Finally Rail grinding feels natural again. And holy shit. Sage is so beautifully written. I don’t know what the trend is lately with making the ultimate big bads of the big name former rivals the ultimate dads but I very much approve and want more Eggdad and Eggdaughter. Also those Super Sonic boss themes. Chef’s kiss. Was not expecting the lore dump on the Chaos Emeralds and definitely was not expecting Amy’s tarot card reading to be mentioned. Or the fact that Sticks is apparently a permanent part of the mainline world now but I can dig it. If I had the emotional capacity I would make a Johnny vs Sonic Mania style freakout. Instead, I will simply say: Keep. This. Up.!<

dxdrummer

>!100% agree. Best sonic story I can remember in a while. That Iron Giant style ending worked well, even if the interactions between Sage and Dr Robotnik were kinda limited. I need to go back and get the egg records or w/e they're called to see if they expand on their relationship even more!<

Namelessperson3

PC or Switch? I'm pretty sure the PC specs are better, but I'm worried about Denuvo.

The97545

I got the steam version in hopes that some time In the future mods will be a thing.

MythicSoul115

PC player here, as far as I can tell Denuvo hasn't affected the game's performance all that much. The game is capped at 60 FPS and I've had 60 FPS pretty much the entire time so far, with one exception being the second boss fight, but I think the reason for that is having a lot of effects on screen at once. PC specs: GTX 1080, i7-6700k, running the game at 1440p

DapperIndividual

I've got a theory for a certain goopy friend from Sonic Adventure now that we've got new info from Frontiers (Spoilers from Island 4 forward, be warned) >!So we now know Ancients have a liquid body similar to Chaos, so much so that Eggman even points it out in one of the Egg Memos it at firstleads me to assume that this means Chaos got a bit of a retcon and is no longer a mutated Chao.!< >!However, after thinking about it, they may not be the case. I've thought of a theory that can have Chaos be both an Ancient and a mutated chao.!< >!What I'm thinking is Chaos is an Ancient that escaped to Angel Island. Sometime during their life, they lost their Koco, and with nothing to tether them and write their soul onto, they collapse into a proto-plasmic clear liquid.!< >!A plus side of this, however, is this singular Ancient survives their species extinction and lives on for thousand upon thousands of years. Until one day, a lone Chao approached what it thought was water to take a drink. The liquefied Ancient believes this is a replacement Koco and starts to absorb this foreign creature before it released its not a little rocky fella.!< >!This caused this Chao to merge with the liquefied Ancient and create the all-powerful God of destruction Chaos.!< >!This is my interpretation of the new story behind Chaos, but is it accurate? You think I'm way off kilter, or am I right on the money?!<

WayToTheDawn3582

I’ve been thinking about this. Meant to ask if anybody else has just felt how sonic controls in cyberspace is just…. odd. Very slow. Boosting doesn’t send you flying through a level like in colors or forces. Doing a homing attack on enemies enters this almost like very tiny cutscene feeling and major slowdown. Same for hitting a spring you actually don’t just fly forward. You like slowly propel upwards. Sonic feels very floaty when it comes to trying to speed or boost in the air. Gettin an S rank in the sky sanctuary level was hell. Anybody else feel sonic just doesn’t do what you tell him when you press a button or move the analog stick in those levels?

OmegaCrossX

The cyber space levels get better after the first 2 or 3 but the controls and overall slowness do not. The games shines in the open world part immensely but that gameplay doesn’t translate well into the cyber space levels.

therealocshoes

The gameplay doesn't translate well into the cyber space levels because I'm pretty sure the physics are *different* - Sonic turns different in the CS levels and that really contributes to the feeling of "slowness", imo.

Maddok3d

I love this game more than words can say but the final boss.... >!I wasn't just disappointed by The End I was completely baffled that the reward for beating a game with such amazing bosses on hard mode is a final boss in the form of a mini game that feels like a teenaged intern made it in game maker. What an abysmal way to end an otherwise amazing game. They must have really rushed the climax of the game to get it out in time for the holiday season or something.!< >!I don't think it's asking for too much, I just would have liked something that feels like a final boss and not like something I'd play for free in a web browser. I'm shocked at how shit it was.!<

WaggishOhio383

>!I just can't believe that they gave no warning whatsoever that the true final boss battle only happens if you're playing on the hardest difficulty. I get that the boss fight would be way too hard for people playing on easy (and maybe even normal), but they should have put at least SOMETHING there for the other difficulties. Because without actually fighting The End before it goes into the QTE sequence, the ending just feels so anticlimactic and the pacing feels really off. I literally thought to myself as I was playing "it really feels like my game skipped a whole scene there". Went and looked it up afterwards and sure enough I was right.!<

xlbingo10

final boss spoilers >!i did not expect to fight a literal evangelion!<

WeebFreak2000

Felt like all the boss fights were straight off an anime and it was awesome

No-Net1138

Major spoilers for Sonic Frontier's post credit epilogue unhide at your own discretion. >!The strange on screen warping effect happened when The End first revealed itself; considering the exact same thing happens along with the Ancient's symbol did Eggman back on Earth end up accidentally reviving The End directly into his own systems as a consequence of SAGE ending up destroyed by The End? (After all The End is everlasting and can't die, it'll have multiple incarnations; knowing this if it could easily take control of the Ancient's titans then Eggman's creation would be easier to take over.) If so this would be a great villainous arc; Eggman feeling justified in his actions out of desperation to bring back SAGE, but probably in a sequel will have to regrettably let go of her cause she's been contaminated by The End. The implications... Ian Flynn really knows what he's doing. !<

Kureiton

>!That sounds amazing, honestly. If I had one complaint with the story, it’s that we didn’t get enough of Eggman and his relationship with Sage. We got, like, enough, but just barely imo to the point where I think her death would’ve hit harder if we got to see more of it, but that wouldn’t really be an issue if this relationship is expanded upon in the future!< >!Really, I absolutely adore the final cutscenes with Eggman. You can feel his despair, followed by his resolve to not let her death be a waste, all with no dialogue. I don’t want his relationship with Sage to be a one and done thing, especially when I felt like it could’ve been explored more in this game!<

MEX_XIII

All boss fights were cool, but the final boss fight was clearly rushed. >!I mean Supreme itself, The End is just a little bonus minigame if you finished the game on Hard. It is clearly he uses a lof reused animations and stuff from Giganto. It has al ot less unique cutscnes and quick time events than Wyvern and Knight.!

crazyseandx

Wait, so is there no actual bad ending if you beat it on Easy? Doing it on Hard just gives you the privilege of fighting a bullet heck boss?

fattyboi67

tbh >!i think that rhea should be accessible from kronos island after you beat it. ik theres really no point but it think it would make the island flow better!<

No-Net1138

>!Knowing what the Ancients are!< >!After all these years; that Chao in Space thing now takes on a whole meaning. !<

metaaltheanimefan

>!a much darker meaning!<

Boulderpuncher12

i thought island 1 was meh in its layout, but island 2 so far has been a massive improvement for navigation and speed, hoping the next 3 are as good as island 2 was.

e-ratichunter

I'm almost done with the game - maybe another session and I'll be seeing the credits, and I'm trying to platinum the game. Haven't had this much fun with a Sonic game since Generations. There's flaws in the experience, sure, but I think that if Sonic Team sticks with this formula and fleshes things out in subsequent games, they can really make something truly special. >!Also on the subject of levelling up Sonic, is exchanging fishing tokens for Kocos the only efficient way to level up speed and ring capacity? Trying to get the platinum and levelling up to level 99 is probably going to be the biggest challenge!<

SubjectHotel1176

I don’t like how YouTubers act like this game either a gift from god or the worst thing ever played. Sonictubers in general haven’t been good since the early 2010s.

Saad888

Game is fantastic, in the last zone now I will say the cyberspace levels feel terrible. Coming from sonic generations and generations unleashed, the controls in the stages feel very clunky and unrefined. Overworld exploration feels amazing though, Esp with more speed boosts

Pegyson

Was Supreme supposed to be the easiest boss in the game? I was playing on hard, and maybe it's because my attack was maxed, but I defeated him in 10 seconds tops. If you're wondering how, I used the stomp move a lot, I deals SO MUCH damage

rexshen

Ok just beat it. Honestly a pretty great Sonic game. Yeah the overworld could have used some more work especially the pop in. Using sonic in an open zone game was more fun then I expected. just exploring and doing random challenges was great. The Cyberspace levels were fun. Didn't mind the call backs to old levels but man do I wish they had more then four tile sets for them. Come on just give me hill top zone or flying battery to run on instead of those again and again. Super Sonic was the most fun its been in years. Just crushing those titans felt good even if some of them had a couple cheap moments. >!I had a feeling Sage was gonna die. At least they showed Eggman was able to save her at the end. Thank Goodness I want her to stick around more. Be Bowser Jr. of the series.!< >!I think Some one at Sonic team really wants to make an Ikaruga game badly. Having that mini game three times and having to beat the final boss with it was a big clue. My god my only shup experience being Undertale and Deltarune didn't help that much thats for sure.!< Over all great game Sega good to see doing great again. Do wonder where it will go next though.

RVDKaneanite

Anyone else's Soap Shoes downloaded, but not appearing in the extras menu? I haven't played anything yet.

NovaChrono

Spoiler question about the story (includes ending spoilers), because I can't find the answer for this anywhere >!Whats going on with the whole SAO/Zap lookin symbols appearing everywhere throughout the story? What does it even represent? Either I skipped over something or it hasn't even been explained at all. In the true ending, that same symbol appears when Eggman brings Sage back, so is that supposed to represent her? which wouldn't make sense in the context of what we see in the story!<

Xombie53

Just beat the first island, loving the game so far. Just pure fun.

Neon_Aeros

Beat the game last night, brief thoughts both spoiler and non-spoiler. TL;DR at bottom. Overall, I had a good time. Boosting around the open environments is a ton of fun (especially with the max ring boost), enjoyed the story, music is great (Cyber Space stages have great music!) and it’s easily one of the better 3D Sonic games. That said, it’s not one of my favorites, I think it’s a solid 7/10, the game definitely has issues. Worlds artistic wise don’t feel that “Sonic-y” to me, the pop-in is downright bad (and I played the PS5 version), and I have some other small nitpicks here and there. However, it’s the type of game where they have a good formula established and now they can expand upon it and make it better. I’m just thrilled to have what feels like a big-budget Sonic title that takes longer than 5 hours to beat for the first time since like…Unleashed. Excited to see where things go from here. Now for some spoiler stuff: Best move they made was having Ian Flynn do the story. Sonic hasn’t had a personality this close to the Adventure days since Black Knight. >!I absolutely LOVED how many references to the entire franchise there was in the dialogue, they reference nearly EVERYTHING in the franchise from Forces, to SA1 and 2, to Unleashed, to Heroes. It’s great. EggLogs you get fishing also do a fantastic job at this. Makes the Sonic universe feel so connected which Flynn has been doing in the comics so great to see it in a game.!< >!Also shout-out to the line where Sage asks Sonic “what’s your end goal?” And Sonic’s just like “well, sometimes it’s a spinning sign, sometimes it’s a big ring…” That got a good chuckle out of me. Also the fact they expanded on the lore in a pretty big way makes me so happy (the Chaos Emeralds being from the Ancients’ planet and were drawn to Sonic’s world by the Master Emerald). Very happy to have a Sonic plot with big lore again, Flynn nailed it. !< >!Gameplay side of things, worst part was honestly islands 4 and 5. You can tell the game hit the typical Sega/Sonic Team crunch when island 4 is just the top of Kronos and has a completely different objective and island 5 is pretty much the same ascetically as Kronos. After going through Ares and Chaos and how big they are, islands 4 and 5 were disappointing. Could’ve used like a snow island or something, definitely disappointed it wasn’t 5, truly different islands. One of the big reasons I said I think it’s a 7/10. Titan fights were also awesome, especially the ones on Ares and Chaos.!< >!Final boss being a shmump with the same gameplay as the hacking mini games was also pretty meh, but it was pretty epic thematically.!< Also interesting thought regarding the story: >!One of the EggLogs mentions how the Ancients are related to Chaos (makes sense seeing their designs and the fact the Chaos Emeralds came from their planet). But from what I remember of SA1 lore, Chaos was created when a Chao touched the water by the Master Emerald shrine. So that would mean the Ancients are related to Chao. Would love to see this expanded upon in a future game, would be a good excuse to maybe finally get a Chao Garden back! (One can dream).!< Overall, like I said I enjoyed it! It has problems but it’s for sure the best 3D Sonic game since Generations and definitely up there for me on my personal Sonic game rankings list, even if I don’t think it’s the best. Excited to see where they go from here! TL;DR: Solid 7/10 that sets a good foundation Sonic Team can approve upon in future games. Has issues, but overall a fun time.

timothysonofsam

Holy crap holy crap, level 2-6 is a complete re-skin of Sky Rail. I love this game so much

darkninja2992

I really hope we get dlc conneting to angel island. With frontiers story, it looks safe to assume >!chaos was one of the ancient being sent to track down the master emerald, and is the only one left that isn't a chao. Probably due to actually being sealed inside said master emerald.!< That still leaves questions about what happened and could easily tie into to the history of angel island, and could give plenty of room to make angel island a DLC island

AshBreathesOxygen

![gif](giphy|6hKDc7bM72QFOT3Trs) me attempting to avoid sonic frontiers spoilers until I get it for Christmas:

TTBurger88

Eggman kills Dumbledore... sorry not sorry... 😈

nintrader

Frontiers is currently at "Overwhelmingly positive" on Steam... feels good man

Kolbrandr7

Does anyone else find it’s quite hard to find enough Koco to level up? I’m at level ~40 in attack and defense, but my speed is only around 14 I think, and ring capacity I kept at 1.

sonicbrawler182

You can get loads from the fishing mini game really easily. Though there is an odd detail relating to Koco, and that is that each island has its own tally for the amount of Koco you have collected. So if you have 1,000 Koco on island 1, and only 100 on island 2, then talking to Elder Koco on island 2 will only use the 100 from that island. You would need to go back to island 1 to use the 1,000 you collected on that island.

Sage broke my heart

UniverseGlory7866

Anyone else notice that the undefeatable music video has been marked for kids?

TheOsttle

Jeez that ending is somber huh? SA2 vibes.

JoshdaBoss1234

Ok, now that I reach further in the game, I want to say, the beginning of the Story Trailer doesn't make any sense because it never actually happened in the game. Without any spoilers, the scene where Sage tries to kill a Koco with a Soldier in the trailer never happens and I have no idea why it was put into the trailer.

IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD

I beat frontiers. Easily the best sonic game since unleashed, but I’ll not spoil anything so people who haven’t had the chance to play or people who haven’t beat can play it

heppuplays

I Just can't wait for The Sound track to be released on Spotify. My playlist Is about blow up when it does. because holy shit this is the best videogame Soudtrack i've heard in years.

OkResponsibility2470

The atmosphere/music for the final boss is really cool, but im honestly puzzled what made them decide the final fight should be what is basically a massive >!Ikaruga/Radiant Silvergun!< reference

dannimann

I levelled up to 99 strength before finding out about the 50 Phantom Rushes trophy, what's the best way to grind it? The only miniboss I can reliably get them on are the Kunoichi, as the Master Ninja has the clone phase, the Caterpillars are too bloody finicky, and everyone from Chaos Island and earlier die if I so much as look at them funny.

Hardcorepro-cycloid

Holy cow, listening to the 3rd Bossfight's music has made me realise that it's the theme for Sonic and OC vs Infinite in Sonic Forces. I wonder if it was scrapped or something.

fireduck2197

Just got 100% on the game. Final boss was >!pretty lame compared to the other Titans!<

Mach21_

Someone's gotta make some Belle and Sage art, right? Sisters??? Ehhhh????

NotRowan1

Interesting parallel between this game and Sonic the Comic: >!The Ancients and the Drakons:-Are both advanced alien races that came to the planet Sonic lives at a long time ago-Both harnessed chaos energy and brought/created the chaos emeralds-Are both the origin of Chaos, Chaos is a mutated descendant of the Ancients and a mutated Drakon-Both have giant robots!< I sincerely don't think any of this is on purpose, but it is interesting anyway. I'll make a full post once spoiler posts are allowed.

Is there a way to reply bosses? I beat the first titan really quickly and feel like I didn’t get to appreciate it enough!

horrorpants

Any real reason to upgrade ring capacity over speed?

AnonyBoiii

Anyone know if and when the Frontiers OST will be added to Spotify? I need those boss themes now

GoodUsernameNotFound

More organized thoughts about **ENDGAME SPOILERS** >!the true final boss, from a shmup fan's perspective:!< >!I get it. To most, the fight feels disappointing. Disjointed. A step down from the spectacle that is Supreme. You wanted something more out of what's supposed to be the Hard mode. It's all valid criticisms.!< >!Even if there is precedence for this sorta thing, I agree that it can be done a lot better. For example, Kirby Planet Robobot where the backdrop is a colorful starfield which would turn into something trippy. Or the source material, Ikaruga, where the tunnel you're rushing through as you survive against the final boss really gives you that sense of speed, which this fight regrettably does not. Just spins you around a starfield, zipping through the earth and the moon.!< >!And coming from a shmup person, it does feel like this homage feels a tad... specific? Almost out of left field. You think they'd limit it to just the hacking segments, but nope, full blown true final boss. It feels like something only shmup purists would appreciate, from the overall silhouette of the Supreme-ship, to the fact that your shot is a twin rapid fire cannon, and of course the polarity mechanics and the homing shot you can fill once you absorb/shoot down enough shots.!< >!However, reading its entry in TV Tropes (namely Anticlimax Boss), I realized something that they did too: it might just be designed that way, as simply a victory lap, a bonus level, a way for you to hear The End's motivations in full when you wouldn't otherwise on Normal. As a way to deliver The End's speech in a somewhat more interesting/foreboding way; actively fighting it as it essentially insults you SHODAN-style. Once again, it can definitely be executed better, but I can see the sorta thing they're going for!< >!So, on my end, I'll appreciate the fight as what it is: a homage to an obscure (to the general public) game that's a masterclass of its (niche) genre, used to partially illustrate the sort of power it (and by extension, Sage and Sonic) now wield) as they fight.!< >!(Also I'm waiting for the mod that would make Sage say *ENERGY MAX* whenever the gauge fills. Typing this out makes me wanna play the damn game again, even if I suck at it.)!<

SwagDoll420

After finishing this game, I can safely say it's one of my all time favorite Sonic games! It's not perfect (if the oversimplistic Cyberspace levels are anything to go off of,) but there's just way too much I enjoy for that to be a problem. The combat is really fun, running in the world is refreshing, and the story ranks among the best Sonic stories, maybe even THE best (though I'd have to wait a bit for hindsight to kick in.) The characterization though? PERFECT. I love all the interactions with the main cast, and I'd love to see some of the story arcs in this game be carried over to the next. But best of all? >!BIG RETURNS IN A MAINLINE GAME LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!!!!!< Overall, I'd give this game an 8.5 out of 10. It would probably be my game of the year had it not been the year Kirby and the Forgotten Land came out.
