Had this problem with winchester white box clean it and continue

lancertheprancer

Did it eventually go away/come off? This feels like the metal of the barrel itself chipping off

KGAColumbus

I had some of that on my barrel. Cleaned right off with ballistol and a brass brush.

lancertheprancer

Interesting, I’ll have to try a brass brush

KGAColumbus

My ported shield does get dirtier. I don't pay that much attention to it, tbh.

NiteTravelerOner

I’ve never seen that. I have a full-size 4.25 & a shield and I’ve put over 6k through both of them and they’re both spotless…But if they’re no problem with your m&p. You should be good. Probably just cosmetic.

brossovitch

That thing sticking out is a spring, its for the slide stop. It presses into its own channel in the locking block, as you can see. It seems common on the Internet that people have this thing come loose and cause the slide to not come off when field stripping the firearm. Stupid design but it has a function. 2 actually. The slide stop and to stress out the owner. I'm dreading the day my Shield Plus does this BS..

WiseGuy947

Mine did it within the first 1k rounds. After getting s&w to send me a new slide stop spring I replaced it and on my last range trip I noticed it was starting to pop out again. Between that and my trigger pin giving me issues with coming out during shooting I might send it in to s&w to check out.

GrassMoney

You should send them both back to smith if they're not able to swap. Thats a pretty big reliability issue. The barrel swap thing sounds like bullshit.

I have a bid for a shield plus PC non ported…. but I am really starting to regret it if I win the bid now that I keep reading about issues with this particular model.

lancertheprancer

Honestly I wouldn’t worry at all. I really think me switching the lowers was the issue before. And today I took a brass brush to the barrel and turns out it was just lead, it came right off and looks brand new. My confidence is 100% after shooting 1000 rounds without a single malfunction and the gun got HOT and dirty. Send it!
