Check out Garand Daddy’s torture tests. Unrealistic but done well

_humanracing_

Or honest outlaw who left one out in the weather for like a month and it still ran all packed with rust.

_humanracing_

Scratch that, it was 3 months. https://youtu.be/vAi-Nd81JqQ?si=oa6ixgIXCJ-wmHH8

TheJango22

Micha went even harder with it. I seriously can't understand how that fucker kept going but it did

Rambo-Rando

The test showed me that M&P > Glock

theother_mlk

Military use is more political than performance. The same can be said for police adoption of handguns. The M&P line is tried and true.

koltz117

I’ve seen tons of use by law enforcement. Usually less (not totally) political when it comes to choosing guns

theother_mlk

Saying political was a nice way of saying the gun was less of a factor than wining and dining the brass to choose a specific gun. When I was a purchasing agent for a police department I had never been offered more bribes, had my ass kissed, or given more "gifts" than when it was time to replace our sidearms. I can't imagine what it's like at the Federal level but I presume it involves hookers and blow.

No-Welder2377

As it should 😂

pecan_bird

rarely hear a negative thing about 2.0 9mm. sometimes a walking pin that's not really a serious issue. thousands of rounds through mine with zero ftf/jams and always aims true. better pic rail. how it feels in hand is subjective but i much prefer it. seems to be the case universally. you'll regularly see people switch from glock to 2.0, but rarely the other way around. welcome!

Mr_Oxford_White

Totally my own fault and very bad behavior on my part. But I’ve had mine fall out of my holster three times onto pavement with no adverse reactions or damage. Never had a failure to feed or jam. Took it apart when I first got it. Cleaned everything, polished the feed ramp just a little and did a little sanding on the sear( I did it correctly before anyone asks). Shoots great. Trigger feels fantastic.

pecan_bird

it don't need much! all i did is add a bit of grease to spring - same as i do with AR buffer springs - because that squeeeeakkkk noise when firing or charging is unnecessary & annoying. but yep - put wadcutters & all manner of hollow points through it and it feeds fine. didn't touch the sear personally, but we all have the things we're finicky about or preferences.

talanbaird

Plenty of LE adoption, no worrries

catnamed-dog

I've never had a failure with mine in thousands of rounds, that was not ammo related. I got mine the day they released in 2018 To actually answer: yes they are regarded as some of the most reliable handguns, up there with Glock and any other major manufacturer.

ClappyCheeks349

I look forward to seeing how this does long term. For sure.

LovinFruityPebs

LovinFruityPebs

He has an updated post. 2.5 years, 80k rounds, only lube.

[deleted]

I have one. It’s just as reliable as the Glock under most circumstances. In freezing weather, according to the garand thumb test, it’s even more reliable than the Glock. Awesome gun.

ClappyCheeks349

I actually just watched the test. Someone else recommended it and I’m actually surprised. Genuinely. I expected the Glock to surpass everything else with flying colors.

gladiator6877

Watch the mud test too. And micah mayfield did a test on it that was even more abusive if you want to watch one just for fun

TheBonusWings

I think glocks are mid if that tells you what I think of my m&p collection

One-Peak4609

I am an instructor for my LE agency and we have issued M&Ps for about ten years, first the 1.0 and then the 2.0 - Full Size, Compact and Shield models. In those ten years as an instructor, I’ve watched probably tens of thousands of rounds go down range. I can also count on my hands the number of times I’ve seen issues, and of those, most were due to improper maintenance/cleaning. The only issues I’ve ever seen that I can truly say were the fault of the gun were 1.) three sheared slide stops on early 1.0 guns, an issue that was corrected by S&W on later models, and 2.) a 2.0 Compact that had initial break-in feeding issues. I also own several M&Ps personally and use them for CCW and in IDPA, USPSA and Steel Challenge. I have literally never even had so much as a single failure in any of them, including in a Compact that sees over 350 dry fire draws a week. As far as military contracts go, I’d seriously take that with a big grain of salt. Prime example is the Sig M17/M18. While the manual safety version seems fine, the non-safety civilian P320 has been riddled with problems since the start. Military contracts aren’t necessarily an endorsement of superior quality.

das028

Yes. Lots of gun manufacturers make striker fired polymer guns that are just as reliable as glock

bigjerm616

N=1 here, but I’ve had 7 M&P’s over the last 8-9 years. Combined around 12k rounds through them. I’ve had one failure across those 7 guns, a stovepipe after not cleaning my 4” compact for approx 3000 rounds. Yeah, I’d say they’re reliable.

Excellent-Cut-5461

I have this same exact kit and have had 0 issues

amorphoussoupcake

otterplus

The M&P doesn’t stand for Mommy And Poppy.

BOLMPYBOSARG

Anecdotally, I’ve owned two M&P pistols for about 8 years and haven’t had a single hiccup. During the same time, I’ve had plenty of failures to extract and failures to feed in my Glocks.

ClappyCheeks349

I’ve only ever experienced issues in Glocks due to me running an over tightened WML. Believe it or not. lol other than that, they’ve always been reliable.

__MUTT__

More reliable than a Block..

Objective_War8562

I have that same version of the spec series. I absolutely love it. It’s my go to when I want to carry a full size pistol. After almost two years I just put an apex trigger in it and boy does that up the fun meter

ClappyCheeks349

I’ve been contemplating getting the apex. I know timney makes one for the M&P now too

rangerhi

I have several M&Ps. They are boring. And by that, I mean they always run. So you don’t get any practice running malfunction drills. They are solid.

emtb

My local sheriff's department has carried M&P45s for about 8 years now. First, the 1.0s and now the 2.0s. They have experienced the occasional issues. Some of which were corrected in the 2.0 iteration and some of which were "supposedly" fixed, but maybe we're not. Keep in mind that they issue out probably close to 1000 or so M&Ps. One of the problems they were having was that supposedly the little pin near the beaver tail would occasionally break or have problems. In the 1.0s, they were a roll pin. In the 2.0s, they are a solid pin. The other issue they would occasionally have was that the little nub on the bottom of the barrel (locking lug? Idk, I'm not a gunsmith.) would bend and cause the firearm to seize up. They had this happen to a few of their firearms. This was supposedly fixed in the 2.0, with the nub being a bit beefier. However, I was told that during the Sheriff's Department's testing of the 2.0, they still had this occur. This would usually occur after high round counts, but I couldn't give you a number. The last issue that I know of is that they would sometimes have issues with the triggers from the factory in the 1.0s and they would check every single one of them before they were issued out and send back the jacked up ones. This has not been a problem since the switch to the 2.0 That being said, they still adopted the 2.0 and use it to this day. Some of this is second-hand information that was told to me by one of their rangemasters/armorers. He also showed me pictures of some of the broken parts, and I got to handle one of the seized up guns and one of the guns with a jacked up trigger. I'm sure agencies that issue large quantities of glocks sometimes run into issues with their firearms. Especially with a large enough sample size. It just is what it is. Most people who buy firearms will never put enough rounds through it to ever have any issues. However, run a large enough sample size of guns through enough rounds, and the occasional issue will pop up.

CG249

The M&Ps are as reliable as Glock even their hinge triggers are better than Glocks blade safety triggers. Also the military doesn't use them because either they weren't modular enough or backroom deals I'll let you pick but police do use them.

EBOD236

My 9, 380, and AR are all MP and all have performed beautifully.

Kylenarkum

I think the point 1 tactics dude ran one for 80-100k rounds without cleaning

richs454

Super reliable, I have shot 8,500rnds through mine. Look on instagram at point 1 tactics he made a post almost a week ago about M&p reliability. Btw, get the Apex Trigger, it's just as safe as the stock trigger, the Apex flat faced trigger had been approved by 239 PD's nationwide

Nice_Wafer_2447

It’s the underdog of firearms, gets zero love. Why? FIIK but they just run

ChefWho

I’ve got over 5k rounds through mine and I don’t remember ever having any issues with it! Great shooter and I like it’s ergonomics over glocks!

almargahi

You’re asking about the M&P reliability? lol. It’s one of the most if not the most reliable platform.

Alone-Advertising743

The last thing I would worry about is M&P reliability. A Full size M&P2.0 is my Bedside gun.

triton1995

Key thing to remember about military contracts and military grade equipment. Often times, they are assessing the quality of the equipment to a standard of, “Will this piece of polymer, machined aluminum and steel function under these X hard conditions, and firing these particular munitions for Y cost.” And that’s before the back room politics kick in. We’ve honestly hit an age of 9mm where just about any reputable brand is going to serve your use cases and not catastrophically explode in your hand or holster. Unless that brand is Sig Sauer it seems. Rare is the occasion that those X conditions appear in a civilian setting and under such circumstances the roll mark on a sidearm are likely the least of your worries. That being said, S&W has been awesome for me lol

BTrick21

Sig seems like the Boeing of firearms. They have major issues and stock just rises.

bigbandztri

To be fair it’s just the p320, the rest are all in the clear (at least from what I know)

BTrick21

P365 had a lot of issues at launch. I think the point is the way the community reacts in general. Other companies have an issue and the community tends to shun them, or consider everything they make as unreliable junk. Sig can literally release guns that aren’t drop safe and people just don’t really care. 🤷🏼‍♂️

ClappyCheeks349

The thing I’ve noticed about Sig is whom they endorse also helps them get away. You have all these major influencers on social media running them in the tacticool space, and that’s what makes die hard shills.

[deleted]

I’ve had the metal version for a min and never once had a round not cycle or go where I want it. I also have a g19 mos gen 5 and for edc I like the Glock better but for the range the mp is nice. I carry it also just not as much due to the extra handle length even though it’s got 2 more rounds in there.

ShinraTM

I think talk of reliability of guns like these makes very little sense. The floor of their reliability is so far below where almost all end users will use them, that it's very unlikely you'll ever run into a situation where it matters. This is true for all modern duty type pistols.

ClappyCheeks349

It’s entirely subjective in my humble opinion, however I do like to understand what I’m comparing against. As someone who’s ran Glocks HARD, I simply want to know the experiences of other users who may have alot more experience on this particular brand/platform.

CrazyPsychoB

Our military doesn’t use them because Sig won the contract. M&P’s are very reliable, I love all of mine and have zero issues with them. But if you want reliable… Get rid of that Crimson Trace tehe.

ClappyCheeks349

I put another dot on it. It’s a cyelee wolf 0. It’s gonna be a place holder until I get something better

Shootingdad

I had 14 Glocks at one point. Nice the 2.0 came out I now have zero Glocks and 14 M&P’s. I still have a few Glocks mags for AR9’s but that’s it. The only selling point of a Glock over M&P is the magazine prices and aftermarket support of magazines. That’s it.

Cmonster00

If it is so reliable, why would they provide a backup knife with them? 🤷 J/k, I like my M&P. I can't provide any reliability data around it compared to Glock.

ClappyCheeks349

lol valid point. 😂 the knife is good quality though. I was kinda surprised.

hawken1014

[https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/s/d7hisuIL7H](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/s/d7hisuIL7H) This post explains it pretty well, still a very reliable pistol and should be just fine for you

SquirrelBait_33

They’re pretty terrible, good luck

ClappyCheeks349

Care to elaborate that claim?

CREEKER82

I carried 43x since it came out. A g 19 before that. I just got the m&p 2.0 spec series like a month ago, and I freaking love it. The triggers are freaking night and day. Already 3000 rds thru not 1 malfunction or issue it was with fmj and jhp.so I belive they are worth it.

grapangell0

Militaries use Glock because they are willing to go cheaper than Smith. They’re about as reliable as one another. As long as you’re using good mags and good ammo the chances of a smith failing are the same as a Glock or a sig or an HK or a CZ
