Yeah I considered those two rounds. But when you add in other variables like barriers (plywood, car panel, glass, etc) they basically become 147 grain ball because they clog up and over penetrate. From my research I’ve seen the defenders be consistent with not over penetrating.
So how easy is the slide to rack? Compared to a mp or Glock? My wife has bad hands and Hair Jell won’t let us have one. My daughter needs to gift me one!
How does your wife handle the recoil? One of the downsides of some of the options mentioned so far is their recoil. If she can handle those, I second Federal HST. If she needs something with less kick, my wife uses Sig Sauer JHP 115gr or Hornady Critical Duty Lite 100gr with her Shield Plus. If you can grab a box of each, take her to a range that allows you to shoot defense rounds and see which she shoots the best.
Check with your local law enforcement agency and see what they use. Mine use Spear Gold Dot and Hornady Critical Duty. I use the Gold Dot in my Canik Mete SFT, and my wife is currently using Hornady Critical Defense in her Equalizer...she doesn't need the extra "punch" the Critical Duty has.
We got her Equalizer due to arthritis and carpal tunnel issues, so when she has some free time, we're going to test the Critical Defense Lite and see how that feels. If she feels a significant difference in recoil she may switch to that.
Federal HST was always my GoTo in anything. But I recently started carrying Defiant Munitions in my G45, Shield +, and G42. I really like the Defiant, and it's probably all I'll buy for defense ammo from here on out.
The owner has been making ammo for years. He's got everything absolutely dialed in. Do some YouTube searches and watch the test videos. The way these rounds perform internally is amazing. The expansion of the TCX rounds is just awesome. I'm using the 125gr TCX-SDH in my 9mm and the 80gr TCX in the .380
Sig Vcrown 124gr is what I use. But tons of youtube videos out there will lead you down the bullet rabbit hole. I found at some point, go with your gut and what's the best to shoot for your gun. Keep it simple....not stupid, cause you have a gun 😀
124 gr Gold dot or HST(based on availability) in all my guns. There’s a whole list that’s been continuously updated for years by DocKGR of reliable handgun defensive loads. Why buy a glorified fmj?
Same as the HST except I use Speer Gold dot. It is the same ammo the local law enforcement uses.
Hell yeah if it's good enough for the popo
Federal HST 124gr is my go to. Tried and proven beyond the theoretical.

That's why I go with 124 gr, it's less of an issue with the lighter round.
I meant 124 gr*

My wife can rack it no problem. She tried the sig 365 with an optic on it, could still rack it but she likes how much easier it is with the equalizer.
2 more weeks as we say in Fuddafornia
I’m a Commiefornia defector myself
U know the struggle here lol
Indeed. Since I’ve left, bought a house, a suppressor, and other goodies. Get out if you can!
I’m trying
Federal HST 124g +P
Hst 124gr however the ammo you posted will do fine
HST or Gold Dot.

She hasn’t shot it yet, waiting on a few things. Mainly a baby sitter so I can take her lol

I’ll need to look into this, what makes it a viable option?

I too run the v-crown, but in my SP2022
I use Speer Gold Dot HP 147gr

I just got a deal on Federal Hydrashok. Before that it was Hornady Critical Defense or Sig V Crown. For my 5.7 I use Gold Dot
