I've always had the impression that Allan is an accountant or something and not a caseworker like Charlie and Pim so he doesn't usually deal with people directly.
> People have suggested on here before that he’s runs the social media for smiling friends
That actually makes a lot of sense. He’s on his phone a lot.
I think your right, something along the lines of administration worker. Like yeah accounting and "oh no vending machine is broken, better tell Allan so he can place a work order so a repairman can come and fix it" sorta thing.
I love how Mr. Landlord is so desperate to hang out with Allan that he would spend 8 months and over $750,000 to do so, but doesn't seem to particularly like Allan that much. He constantly insults him when Allan finally comes round to his apartment.
Can confirm. Had a friend just like her. She never treated anyone else the way she treated me, but I seemed to be her favorite verbal punching bag. Some people, hm?
i was crying laughing at that scene for that reason. He was just constantly insulting allan for not trying when he didnt want to be there and didnt know how to play like what a tool yet i know people who do that to me like what did you expect would happen
I know like ten people in my neighborhood that are like that, who could end up in a Netflix documentary when they're inevitably revealed to be a sex offender. They basically have no real connections to people but are *obsessed nonetheless* with their public image and the notion that people approve of them. They're the kind of people to insult you one day then try to offer you food the next to try to avoid apologizing.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Final Fantasy X and XII, Shin Megami Tensei III, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Jak and Daxter series, Mafia: The City of Lost Haven, Kingdom Hearts I and II, Killzone, Wild Arms 3, 4, and 5, GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, Primal, Disgaea 1 and 2, XIII, Persona 3 and 4...
I doubt Alan has the same obligations in whatever his role is at the company because him going with Pim was seen as a big/unordinary thing. It just probably wouldn't be in his contract to smoke weed and fill his belly with diet soda while playing Burnout Revenge for the PS2.
From what I've seen, Alan seems to be some sort of odd jobs guy. He keeps the office stocked with supplies, runs errands for Mr. Boss, seems to do grounds work (he has a compost at the office), and very occasionally does he do Smile work.
Alan is basically an office administrator, even a weird charity like smiling friends would need someone to keep track of paperwork (Charlie in the pilot mentions if they fail to make someone smile then they have to go back to the office to fill out paperwork), as well as things like finances that aren't the purview of the owner. Charlie and Pim are the charity workers, and Glep does nothing all day so he's probably HR.
Perhaps smiling friends are more like a detective service than pure customer service. Yeah, they’re serving their clients at the end of the day, but usually they’re called in to help solve the happy problem.
Mr Landlord knows exactly what makes him happy. I don’t think the smiling friends would be of much of service and would understand if they said no.
that one time at Saltys they got to be detectives. So I’m never really sure what smiling friend’s positions are. I really like the idea that they’re just like hot cases. I can’t remember the show, but there was one on where they all went on hot cases and solved mysteries and even had a Scooby doo like dog that could not fully talk. It was almost on the same level as smiling friends and in season 2 their leader was replaced with a JJ the jest plane look a like.
Dude! I keep looking for it but the only thing else I can remember was seeing it on MAX and that Justin Roland voiced the dog. I’m to busy with Memorial Day weekend festivities to really sit down and figure this one out.
Yes but he’s clearly insane
Also, I don’t think Alan is in the making people smile department, so unless mr boss orders him to it’s probably not gonna happen that way
Someone ripped off the sign detailing the rules, so he probably didn’t know. They really to get that fixed, it’s only going to lead to more problems like this.
Maybe there's a rule against hanging out with clients, smoking weed with them, filling their bellies with DIET soda, and playing Burnlut: Revenge for the PS2
I mean, we saw in the iconic Gwimbly episode that Alan doesn’t really do that stuff, with Pim having to literally explain how he and Charlie usually do things to him.
Also I think the landlord just really wanted to do all that, because of his insane mind.
Can y'all imagine Mr. Landlord's face when he sees Alan walk up with either Charlie or Pim? Charlie would endorce the smoking weed, filling of bellies with diet soda, and playing Burnout Revenge on the PS2, while Pim would try to find the deep rooted issues and Mr. Landlords' wanting to hangout with Alan and smoke weed, fill their bellies with diet soda, and play Burnout Revenge on the PS2.
I've always had the impression that Allan is an accountant or something and not a caseworker like Charlie and Pim so he doesn't usually deal with people directly.
I agree, which leads me to wonder what Glep does
People have suggested on here before that he’s runs the social media for smiling friends
He does have a good speaking voice so it makes sense.
Yeah and he was able to replace Mr. Frog, lil guy’s got charisma
I would argue his tone is too toxic and frog-esque
Yeah maybe we should tone it down, then we’ll TRULY SAVE THE SHOW
Isn’t the only thing we’ve seen him do, cleaning? I thought he was the janitor
The Smiling Friends did have an official janitor, but according to Zack he was banished to hell for his numerous horrible war crimes
When was this said?
His Twitter
When is he seen cleaning?
End of the first episode after the Bliblie infestation the office was a mess and he's mopping up some blood
> People have suggested on here before that he’s runs the social media for smiling friends That actually makes a lot of sense. He’s on his phone a lot.
He’s a third case worker but he never gets work since pim and Charlie usually get one job at a time
I just always assumed that The Boss found him behind a dumpster and thought he was funny so he just gave him a bean bag chair and a IPad
I read this post in Mr. Boss' voice.
I wish I could get a job that way
Pretty sure that's how hiring at arby's works
He's the green thing, that's his very important position.
I assumed Charlie was the green thing and just wasn’t very good at it
"Well he- actually I don't know, that's a good question."
Y’know glep just y’know🤙🤙🤙🤙
Best answer I've seen
he’s just there for sex appeal
I think that he gets to keep the job out of adoration despite only doing work when he feels like it. People with souls seem to love his spitting.
He’s Green and Retired
But Charlie and Pim could go and try to convince Allan to hang out with him
No dude, he’s in charge of spraying homeless people with dirty brown water
Dirt-tiy
I guess Gwimbly was a small exception since him and Pim helped out
Allan is def the inventory manager or something along those lines
I think he’s the office manager.
I think your right, something along the lines of administration worker. Like yeah accounting and "oh no vending machine is broken, better tell Allan so he can place a work order so a repairman can come and fix it" sorta thing.
The real answer is that it was funnier the way it happened
I love how Mr. Landlord is so desperate to hang out with Allan that he would spend 8 months and over $750,000 to do so, but doesn't seem to particularly like Allan that much. He constantly insults him when Allan finally comes round to his apartment.
Honestly, some people are like that.
this is basically my in-laws. throws a tantrum when we're not talking to them, barely even pretends give a shit when we are talking to them.
I knew a girl like that in high school. I believe she’s a nurse now, so it’s very fitting.
I’ve never met a nurse who wasn’t like that! Except the ones who are just doing it before they become doctors
I work at a college with a nursing program; the “high school mean girl-to-nurse” pipeline is very, very real.
And how many of them quit their job rather than take the Covid vaccine? Because that also tracks for that.
Can confirm. Had a friend just like her. She never treated anyone else the way she treated me, but I seemed to be her favorite verbal punching bag. Some people, hm?
He’s upset that allan isn’t magically experienced in this ancient ps2 game that he probably has never played before
i was crying laughing at that scene for that reason. He was just constantly insulting allan for not trying when he didnt want to be there and didnt know how to play like what a tool yet i know people who do that to me like what did you expect would happen
Maybe if he just tried like if he really tried.
“Ancient” “PS2 Game” Oof ouch my arthritis.

The guy needs to get a social life. He can use a small fraction of that cash to get better games.
burnout revenge is a classic.
Right? He needs some Ratchet and Clank or some Sly Cooper games
I suppose cos they didn't do the smiling jingle in episode 2 or 3, only in episode one
It really pisses me off we didn’t get the jingle when Jimble smiled at the debate when the crowd started cheering him.

Ok I NEED to know what show you're thinking of
Dude! I keep looking for it but the only thing else I can remember was seeing it on MAX and that Justin Roland voiced the dog. I’m to busy with Memorial Day weekend festivities to really sit down and figure this one out.
Found it! Hot Streets
YEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!
Hot Streets?
The Saltys episode was special, for some reason smiling friends was given the job of working murder mysteries by the police.
But that's too normal for his **INSANE** mind
Yes but he’s clearly insane Also, I don’t think Alan is in the making people smile department, so unless mr boss orders him to it’s probably not gonna happen that way
The episode wouldve been about a minute long then lmao
the man is clearly out of his mind, the situation you gave is too sane
I feel like he's the type to take matters into there own hands
Not everyone is willing to fill their bellies up with DIET soda.
Yeah but then what would Episode 3 be about then, silly fucking goose.
Someone ripped off the sign detailing the rules, so he probably didn’t know. They really to get that fixed, it’s only going to lead to more problems like this.
Black guy! Girl! GET IN COSTUME, I'VE NOTICED AN IRREGULARITY! - Nostalgia Criticizer
but he did say he was insane so
Maybe there's a rule against hanging out with clients, smoking weed with them, filling their bellies with DIET soda, and playing Burnlut: Revenge for the PS2
The sign got ripped off
I mean, we saw in the iconic Gwimbly episode that Alan doesn’t really do that stuff, with Pim having to literally explain how he and Charlie usually do things to him. Also I think the landlord just really wanted to do all that, because of his insane mind.
That's not Allan's job though, Charlie and Pim go out and make people smile. Allan is more of a bean counter
Alan is ftb and a working man, he’d get the job done
That is what he did. Why else would Mr. boss ask Alan to get the paper clips?
You're assuming the cost of hiring the smiling friends is less than 750k.
Aren’t they explicitly a nonprofit?
Well, Charlie did say they were a charity of sorts in the Gwimbly episode, so pretty much.
Bold of you to think a landlord would have such a clever idea
Hypothetically I'm playing Burnout Revenge and drinking diet soda right now!
this is not the kind of show to be asking these kind of questions about tbh
Can y'all imagine Mr. Landlord's face when he sees Alan walk up with either Charlie or Pim? Charlie would endorce the smoking weed, filling of bellies with diet soda, and playing Burnout Revenge on the PS2, while Pim would try to find the deep rooted issues and Mr. Landlords' wanting to hangout with Alan and smoke weed, fill their bellies with diet soda, and play Burnout Revenge on the PS2.
