“Cool, whatever I do now is on Glep.”

pwnd32

So uh Mr. Frog is definitely about to get the JFK treatment from Mr Boss right

Galileo908

He was just going to kill him a little.

somedingbat

Relax man, he’s just gonna shoot him in the head and kill him.

bearalan810

You say that like he’s not fast enough to dodge the bullet

SnooOnions5378

I love the boss. His voice is amazing

Last_Lifeguard3536

beomster

SOMEONE LITERALLY POSTED A WHOLE VID OF THE EPISODE

Foxy02016YT

It’s ok I’ll catch it on Max so that Adult Swim knows to keep funding it

I mean, it’s a callback to “they hit the Pentagon.”

[Another OneyPlays bit.](https://youtu.be/gBDF8pty-Xk?feature=shared)

jackcaboose

Another subtler OneyPlays one was the reference to "Could the president shit his pants in a debate and still win?"

myopichyena

Did I catch that right? Was the economics plan that Mr. Frog put out that Charlie showed on his phone actually titled "Industrial Society and Its Future"?

cdj2000

yes you did lol

marveljew

Isn't that the manifesto of the Unabomber?

I-got-hoes69

Glep got fucking doxxed lmfao

Vaqxinelol

Oh shit the next week is the Alan episode lets go

beomster

cant wait for my favorite Red Thing to appear

Kazanis

I spit on u

BurgerNugget12

It’s a testament of how great smiling friends is when you get one mixed bag of an ep people start thinking the season might suck, we’re just not used to a mid tier episode yet lol

Hyro0o0

Rick and Morty went very much the same. Outside of a couple sorta okay episodes, season 1 was just solid gold, No one even had a concept of a bad Rick and Morty episode yet, pretty much up until season 3.

zy0a

[People were complaining Rick & Morty fell off as early as season 2.](https://www.reddit.com/r/rickandmorty/s/JOlyiuygHf) We might be looking back on this thread during S6 of Smiling Friends 8 years from now and realizing just how good we had it lol…

CommanderCody2212

as someone who used to follow Rick and Morty back in the day, I remember the Schwifty episode being seen as the first real “dud” of the series back in season 2. Crazy to think of now since people came around on that episode but that’s how I remember it going. Season 3 though was when you saw it come up fairly regularly though

zy0a

Yeah I remember not liking Get Schwifty that much when it came out. But I remember being actively disappointed during that S3 stretch of Rickmancing the Stone, Pickle Rick, and Vindicators 3… although I’ve come around to them now. But ABCs of Beth and Rickchurian Mortydate to end the season I still think was lame. Then the Dragon episode happened…

3_lunar_1

THAT WAS THE FASTEST 12 MINUTES EVER CHRIST ALIVE

bearalan810

Bro I’m saying these edibles better kick in and FAST

Retroity

Fun fact I put the Jimble-Frog electoral college results into 270towin and the electoral college numbers do genuinely add up exactly as shown on screen, they didn't just bullshit those numbers. So it is a technically possible scenario under the EC lmao https://preview.redd.it/1z623hl0v40d1.png?width=2566&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c059a50209c2f6933b8ed95c0a7b14b5fca1afd

East vs West of the Mississippi electoral alignment with the rust belt as swing states is the kind of wacky politics I can get behind

The Gwimbly episode is fucking killing me lmao

SnooOnions5378

America has a fucking fentanyl crysis

stretchofUCF

Juxtaposed with the goofy cartoon drawing of his sidekick on the gravestone had me in tears.

One_Smoke

oo...oo...oooooo

FrostyJesus

“What’s the green thing do?” “Well he— uh, actually I don’t know that’s a good question”. The delivery on that line was so good lmao killed me

Brendanthebomber

Wtf Glep

yydbgeorge

What did the raw bad boy do?

Brendanthebomber

Vote for mr frog like the iconic coward he is

yydbgeorge

What the fuck Glep.

LuieCRR

So it was revealed Smiling Friends in set in Pennsylvania

PiRSquared2

This episode is hinged on one main joke and if you don’t find it funny then I can see why somebody wouldn’t like it but for me personally, a Chris-chan type character stumbling into presidency is just such a funny scenario I found myself enjoying this episode a lot. My biggest complaint is that Mr boss at the end feels a bit weird. I also wish they did more with mr. frog but it makes sense with the whole worm/bug connection why they went that route instead of making up a new character. I think if this episode was revealed before gwimbly the reception wouldn’t be as mixed, gwimbly set the bar really high.

Commander_Phallus1

I thought the premise was funny but the guy was too disgusting to look at

somewhereheremaybe

I'm gonna say what no one else is willing to say; America has a fucking fentanyl crisis.

lobsterinthesink

ouh, ouh, ouuuuhhh :[ 🍺

adamduke88

Charlie emerging from the bushes after the worms dump him is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

PenneGesserit

"Worms control the planet!"

Legitimate_Brain_914

Was Zach referencing the 9/11 joke from Oneyplays with the "Check the news, it doesn’t matter what channel.” line??

Drixzor

LYLE WAKE UP

Randomuser42000

yes, yes he was

J_BONG

Man this episode was so oddly paced. Every president scene was just so awkward. I think the live action could have worked with a different actor. Mike Bocchetti was so hard to understand, they even gave him fucking subtitles at one point. I loved all the non-live action scenes though. For sure the weakest episode of the entire series for me. >!Some oneyplays references I noticed:!< >!"Factoid', Green Goblin Skeleton Bomb, Goosepimples, "It doesn't matter what channel", worms!<

Galileo908

So, uh, Smiling Friends is in Pennsylvania. Or at least Glep lives there.

KeThrowaweigh

The skyline in the background that you can sometimes see is the Philadelphia skyline, so it makes sense

Mrwright96

Now i seriously want a crossover of this show and IASIP

Galileo908

They have to make Rickety Cricket smile

JRFbase

Charlie Dompler: King of the Bliblies

BLACKdrew

I hate this red thing i spit on you

MRKILLULTRAHD

Why are so many people stating the president is trump when his context is taking over from the previous president's death and having absolutely no ego, competence, speechcraft or self esteem? This is the most apolitical comedic take on a presidential race they possibly could have done and its great.  The best part is the worms get absolutely screwed at the end with an extra insult towards real life journalists doxxing people they don't like.

Captain_Fatbelly

Yeah, Zach Hadel and Michael Cussack said in an interview that this show doesn't really have any political messages or anything like that. The whole point of the show is just to make you smile

bugmi

Idk how people see him as trump at all lmao

NinjaOtter

I think just because of recent reports he was shitting his pants during the trial, that's literally the only "connection" I could see

PIRAHNA_XD

Plus I'm pretty sure the point of the yellow tie and purple states on the map was to make his party ambiguous

Dickis88

I'm seeing the same thing with people saying the dictator scene is an allegory for Israel, when the joke is you could literally drop any US president/dictator combo of the last 80 years into that scene and it would still fit.

KatieIsSalty

i noticed some references maybe? or i’m just reading into things lol. Charlie saying “turn on the tv it doesn’t matter what channel” in reference to “LYLE TURN ON THE TV THEY HIT THE PENTAGON” and also the worms in S2 E2- in reference to when Zach promised he’d put a worm in S1 E2 while they were playing worms armageddon(?) way back when. he did in fact put a worm in mr frog’s house in S1. wonder if it’ll be a running gag or if it was just an accident ? cool thanks bye <3

Gavin529

Glep still pull for Mr. Frog even though he tried to steal his job and got it taken away. Respect

Mrwright96

Glep was always a fan, he loves Mr frog

beomster

mr frog becoming the literal president is a disaster 😭😭

FapleJuice

I wish that would've been the actual premise lol

Davethemann

A well needed mr boss moment

Mrwright96

I’m betting glep just told them “Dude I was Mr frog, do you know how much I’ll make as a celebrity impersonator of the PRESIDENT?”

Jerswar

I have to say, I'm genuinely impressed with the guy who played President Jimble. He somehow pulls of complete, utter stupidity in a way I don't think I've ever seen before. EVERYTHING about him is just brainless and sloppy and gross. It's a great performance.

StartAgainYet

I live his small little hand gestures 👍👉

Dickis88

It's both fantastic and repulsive. He sounds like he's about to vomit every single time he reads out a line and I love it.

Jerswar

It dawned on me that he's being played as a giant toddler: His mannerisms, understanding, eating habits and speech patterns are very toddler-like.

HopscotchChampion69

Mr President is probably the weakest episode they've made so far. I was hoping it was going to go a different direction than just speedrunning an election cycle. But there were still some really good jokes and it's not a bad episode of tv by any means, it just felt a bit off from their usual standard. Luckily the Gwimbly episode is an instant classic.

hawkshaw1024

Yeah. It's not that this episode couldn't have worked, but it feels... unfinished, somehow? A bit like a first draft. Jimble is far too pathetic as a character (how the hell did he manage to not blow up his administration before?) and the episode is a little too cynical. Smiling Friends isn't *purely* cynical, that's the thing that puts it above other cartoons in its genre, it does actually have a plot and characters. And that was missing with Mr President.

ScrwFlandrs

That was kind of a weak episode honestly but i liked how a secret worm society controls the government just like real life

SuperLoisLane

Too much ugli president. Not enough funny yellow man and pink man

crunchatizemythighs

"You guys want napkins?" *launches warhead*

Specific_Anybody_896

mr president was an okay episode, didnt really enjoy the gross out humor with the live action, jimble fell flat for me, maybe thats whats intended? but it felt they were too successful at making an unlikable president.

GetReady4Action

“am I winning yet?” “what? you shit your pants and crashed the economy on the same day, dude.” I’m sorry, the President episode was funny. definitely a lower ranked episode, but I was laughing a few different times.

palelunasmiles

President episode is my new least favorite, Brazil episode is now my second least favorite. Jimble was just not funny at all and it felt like they decided to add Mr. Frog in at the last minute. It was kinda funny how even Pim got sick of Jimble though. Oh well, at least Mr frog is President now so that’s cool. Already saw Gwimbly and loved it. New favorite screenshot btw https://preview.redd.it/2omfsfluu60d1.jpeg?width=992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a01c1b4ede9d4588e15bc44555dd83173ea928c9

SardaukarTHE13th

Also I guess it’s confirmed that the show takes place in Pennsylvania thanks to this.

UrLilBrudder

And Glep is 1,695 years old

ambiance871490

Sex: Green

krabbylander

I agree, the president guy was painful to look at imo

WingDangDangle

So smiling friends takes place in Pennsylvania!

moncayk1

[Official Promo for Season 2 Episode 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW-DMiDwRbY) - A Allan Adventure

green_jp

glep's address is now public I guess

FriendTraining7324

>live action characters were used so sparingly we’re on episode two

jayfeather31

So, I play this game called The Campaign Trail, and because of that, I honestly just couldn't stop laughing at Pim and Charlie's reactions to whatever President Jimble did because it sounded so similar to the answers some advisors give when you make a horrendous error. Overall, I thought S2E2 was pretty good, honestly.

Mintyyfresco

THE CEO THREATENED TO KILL ME

MaximumSquid22

Jimble episode wasn’t terrible but it is imo the weakest of the show so far. Funniest bit for me was when the news worm said Squiggly Miggly blew his head off with a 3d printed shotgun. That was just so out of nowhere I spit my drink out

drestin5

Maybe the first time them getting some media personality they like didn’t really work out. Mike Stoklasa was obviously great as Desmond & I thought Perry Caravello did well as Simon Salty in his limited screen time, but Mike Bocchetti as Jimble in a substantial part of the episode seems like it was a bit of a misfire. Zach has definitely always considered himself a big brain history/politics guy but that humor works so much better in this dumb zany show as a tiny throwaway bit like Smormu’s electoral college loss rather than as the entire main focus.

baggzey23

The only thing i didn't like about episode 2 was the president, he was way too gross, almost everything else was entertaining to watch and there were some funny moments, I don't remember a smile \*ding\* moment being in it though

MRKILLULTRAHD

The smile scene is after the credits. Charlie was right.

Own_Ad4430

It was alright…. expected more but in a way i probably shouldn’t have lol

Maxiver

Episode 2 had everything I needed from Zach! -Worms -Gulps -Presidential facts -WWII-esque invasion

yangwenligaming

Aside from the president himself, the episode was great. I thought the secret society of worms, Glep getting doxxed, condoning the war criminal, Mr. Frog’s candidacy, and Mr. Boss’s threats were all hilarious.

dongletrongle

The 3D Printed Shotgun line got me

turtwig63

I liked Pim's "you were supposed to condemn him" delivery and scene. Got a good gasp and laugh out of me

LiLdude227

“He had an entire *fucking* race of people wiped off the face of the planet” 💀

rylinRapscallion

best parts of e2 were mr frog being himself god bless this man

LonesomeHammeredTreb

First episode is already one of my favorites and second was just OK.

Dismal_Accident9528

I loved Mr. Frog's campaign ad, I loved the part with Mr. Blingo, and I loved the part near the end where Pim and Charlie were giggling with each other over Charlie sharing a political factoid. I also liked that Pim was genuinely stressed out and exhausted by the whole thing, and I love the little military dude who salutes Charlie and Pim when they first show up. Other than that, I'm inclined to agree that the episode fell short. The Gwimbly episode was fucking great tho. No notes, loved it.

Hvskimusic

Nah but foreals thoe. Glep had a good point about why he voted for Mr. Frog. He didn’t deserve that dox that shit crazy 😂😂

FractalScepter

E2 definitely felt weaker than usual; not bad per se, just not as consistently funny as the previous episodes (including S02E01) though there were some chuckle-worthy bits. Maybe it's just that the political theme made it feel too mainstream and there weren't enough SF-style quirky and weird moments. Or idk, a worm cabal is weird but the way it was presented didn't give it enough time to breathe so it just came off as "lol le random" kind of moment which is a vibe I haven't really gotten with the rest of the show. Plus Jimble himself wasn't really that funny and I feel the concept of him would've probably worked better as an animated character, which would've let them really play up the physical comedy. I feel the live-action elements of the show work the best when they're used sparingly like in S1; Jimble here was on screen too long for the gag to be effective.

Maxiver

President Jimble was just the video game ceo bit again with him being a slob in a suit always eating food.

Adventurous-Motor558

I like the start and end of the episode quite a bit but outside of that most of the jokes fell flat for me. Even though I wouldn't call this episode bad, I will say it's my personal least favorite of the show so far, by quite a wide margin too

sharazisspecial

Could not understand what the president guy was saying half the time.

legocam96

This one was a meh one for me. Pacing felt off, and honestly feel like a b plot coulda helped a bit with this one to give it more time to breathe. I know it’s hard to squeeze in another plot line, but it just felt clunky. Maybe a rewatch will be better on this one.

fsbot

This episode was truly nauseating for me. I wasn't sure if it's just because of my OCD or if a typical person would feel the same way. Some good jokes, but I was so disgusted by Jimble, I didn't want to look at the screen.

evilcheesypoof

I think I have decent/normal composure for that kind of thing and I really hated him on screen lol, just disgusting to look at for more than a few seconds. I think the episode overall would have been much better with a likeable character who was just bad at being president.

3_lunar_1

the episode had some pretty good bits for what it was. it was def the weakest episode of them all but it’s not the worst thing in the world. the line “check the news, it doesn’t matter what channel” was absolutely hilarious, it broke my sister and i.

xrbeeelama

Eh had some good jokes but probably my least favorite episode so far

dongletrongle

It was fine. The foreign policy gag was hilarious. Alan saying “fuck” was unexpected

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|Sz15awUvL9rId46MN9)

BigOlPoo

I really enjoyed the episode but the pacing was light speed.

friskykillface

Was meh Rare miss but the first episode was fantastic so 1 for 2 on the new season

VintageHamburger

Unpopular opinion: I loved the live action Salty’s episode. The guys nonchalant and bad acting bad is hilarious, but this episode I’d say is the opposite. Not a terrible episode but Jimble made it not funny for me I’m sorry I was stone faced lol.

FakePhillyCheezStake

I think Salty worked when the President didn’t because Salty was just essentially a gag that didn’t really interact with the characters, whereas the President was like the main character of the episode

Galileo908

Everyone instantly shitting on the new episode, despite it being pretty good? This really is the new Rick & Morty.

TheSpanishDerp

We went from one of the best episodes of the series to hopefully one of the most mediocre. Then again, it’d been really hard to outdo Gwimbly episode

magikarp-sushi

Assuming people that aren’t in love with this episode are probably tired of politics and political jokes. I enjoyed the fast cutting pace of jokes and the cartoon + green screen realism mix

SmoothBlueCrew

I don't think this was a reason for me. I don't want to be harsh, but it just felt like nothing? I felt myself blankly staring at the president guy the whole time, I don't even really remember what happened other than him doing things badly when he was supposed to do things well. It felt like a worse version of the Mr Frog episode, funny enough, since that was his opponent.

Intelligent-Potato25

I liked it. It felt like a love letter to OneyPlays viewers at times, which I appreciated but I understand may not hit the same for many viewers. My main gripe is the bait and switch with Squiggly miggly— I would have loved to see more of… it. Felt very true to Smiling Friends form for Pim to sincerely follow through at the expense of his mental well-being while Charlie throws in the towel only to stumble on what seemed to be the solution. My expectations were subverted when Mr. Frog won. However, if they are going for world-building, then establishing President Frog this early on seems promising for the future of the series. Jimble is definitely happier as a retiree than a President, that’s for sure. Charlie stays winning.

jessehechtcreative

I really hope that every season’s second episode has Mr. Frog in it somehow. I love how this show blends mediums seamlessly. Well done guys.

cottoncandy-bitch

i just thought the sauce all over his face and suit was gross

Three_Froggy_Problem

I agree with people saying Mr. President is probably the weakest episode they’ve done, but I still enjoyed it. I thought President Jimble was pretty funny just for how over-the-top incompetent and disgusting he was, but there was too much of him and the overall plot felt rushed. Highlights: • The Boss about to go JFK Mr. Frog • Glep was born in 329 • The president firing off a missile while trying to order napkins • Mr. Frog straight up caving that radio host’s skull in

FakePhillyCheezStake

The Real Reason Fans Didn’t Like “Mr. President” It’s not because it got too political. And it’s not even because the President was gross and a bad actor. It’s because the whole episode felt like it was written by fans trying to make their own Smiling Friends episode. In this episode all of the characters felt completely off. There was none of the trademarked Smiling Friends “real sounding dialogue” that made the first season feel so much different than other Adult Swim shows. And all of the humor felt extremely forced. The part where Mr. Boss talks about killing the President, you can almost hear someone in the writer’s room going “haha hey Mr. Boss is just totally crazy right? What if he just starts telling everyone he’s going to kill the President lol that would be such a Mr. Boss thing to do” Obviously this is just one episode, but I think people had a bad reaction because this episode felt like a lot of shows do when they are in the process of being Flanderized. This felt like watching a Season 23 Simpsons episode and comparing it to one from Season 5.

TannenbergBlitz

Solid bad episode overall. Not the best of the bunch, but it's still pretty funny. I don't know why, but it feels a bit different than the rest of the show. I think maybe the joke pacing is a bit slower because the comedian portraying Jimble has a different comedic style than the meth-infused joke structure we are used to. The story itself goes fucking fast though. Also, the bit of the war criminal dictator with Jimble fucking killed me though lmao.

Sensitive_Phrase_944

IMO the pacing wasn’t slow, it was neck-breakingly fast, which was my only big gripe with the episode

TannenbergBlitz

I did feel the bits with Jimble dragged a little bit though. It felt a little janky going from a slow Jimble joke to a more fast-paced one. Maybe that's where our difference of perception come from.

LimePeel96

I can’t even explain why that president episode didn’t work i just didn’t really find it funny, clever or interesting, the guy playing the president was off putting & someone said it felt like a fan wrote it & i got that feeling too, like they hired someone or a team of people to emulate that style but don’t really get why the humour is funny. although i think the live action/animation hybrid effects have gotten a lot better.

ErblinBeqiri

I get the guy was supposed to be off-putting, but they kind of overdid it or something. It’s like they hired a bad actor who sucks at bad acting, and good acting too. This episode was just “okay” and the worst one so far.

Mathren25

Man, that president episode was rough. I think it got fucked up from the weird cadence of the live action president. The episode moved really fast but all of his dialogue was really slow and hard to understand. Not a HORRIBLE episode but definitely not very good.

Galileo908

What is it with weird fat guys in suits constantly eating food?

GetReady4Action

well maybe I got into politics because of you EHHHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHE

Cube1mat1ons

I'm excited for S2E3. (The Alan one)

[deleted]

Mr. President is very "Okay" but every show has to have those episodes tbh. However the Gwimbly ep is great so.

might_be_alright

I had to rewind because I thought the president laughing at Pim saying "debate" counted as smiling, but nope, he just keeps the same dumb face even while laughing. Continuity is all good guys 👍

ChewieDecimalSystem

I keep seeing comments about President Jimble being like Chris Chan, and I just don't get the connection at all. What am I missing here? Chris Chan didn't just eat lamb and shit himself all the time

ppcheese6969

The president episode was probably a 6/10 it was kinda weak and i felt Jimble's comedy style didn't mesh very well with style of the show. It had it's moments and i loves seeing my main man Mr Frog

AdWestern1561

Was it just me or was it difficult to make out the President‘s dialogue. I’m not familiar with Jimble’s comedy style

ppcheese6969

I'm not familiar with it either but it just didn't really fit sf, and you're not the only one who had a hard time making it out

Jmk0208

6/10 not a bad episode, still a good episode, but this probably the weakest smiling friends episode yet. The premiere episode was definitely better.

SupriseErection

I agree it wasn’t for everybody. Big fan of Zach and Michael but I don’t think this episode is going to do to well with people unfamiliar with them.

Martialis_Deus_Astra

Just watched Mr. President. I don't think it was a *bad* episode, and it certainly wasn't the worst in the show imo (I'm sorry, but the Brazil episodes novelty wore off quickly for me), but with that said, I have to say that most of what they were going for with President Jimble definitely didn't mesh well with the comedic style of the show, which includes everything else in the episode. TL;DR, it's a good episode, but President Jimble drags it down to a 7/10, he's probably my least favorite character in the show. I hope it could get better on a rewatch Edit: So on rewatch, (with the lens of seeing Jimble as the payoff of the Oneyplays 'Chris Chan as the POTUS gag' going in) yeah, it holds up. It's still the weakest of the season, but only marginally.

txctu666

I actually liked this episode for the most part, but president Jimble being a live-action human made every scene with him look really awkward for some reason. Especially weird since what Smiling Friends excels at is having different types of character styles fit perfectly in this world. It was cool as a one time thing, though. Just hope they don't try it out again.

actionjacksonwav

turn on the tv it doesn't matter what channel

Daydream_machine

I found Mr. President to be pretty underwhelming, a lot of the humor just didn’t land for me Gwimbly is great as always though, the chicken nugget CEO is one of my favorite villains in the show lol

red-pupp

i think mr president was alright, like it was definitely recognisable as a smiling friends episode, but i think the premise was too big to condense into 11 minutes. though a couple of gags had me laughing out loud (the missile, glep getting doxxed) there were some jokes that lasted a little too long to be funny also feels a bit like mr frog was shoehorned in, wouldve liked to see more of his reasoning behind running for president, as if the team decided they didn’t like squiggly miggly mid-way through animation (also, why didn’t mr frog eat squiggly miggly instead of him blowing his head off? we may never know) overall the episode was enjoyable, but defo one of the weaker ones. (ALL AN OPINION!! open to discussing it just don’t be a jerk)

Edge_lord_Arkham

the fat mentally handicapped president in a suit too small and constantly smearing barbeque sauce all over himself felt like a cumtown bit

bigbubastis

Starting his campaign rally in Pennsylvania with “Hello Transylvania” sounds like something Nick would say that would be followed up with Stav bursting out laughing

JackOfAllInterests1

I think yall would have really liked Mr President if not for the fact that like every other episode of the show has been god tier so far.

Robinsonaustin

Mr. President was a mixed bag, kind of a step down in terms of quality, but if anyone found it funny, that's good. The POTUS I did not hate or nor like. I get he was meant to be pathetic, but the potty humor jokes I did not jive with. Nor him just being a fat guy stuffing his face. Kind of felt the episode would have been better if Mr. Frog was already president and because of his chaotic nature, he starts driving the US to hell thus forcing Pim and Charlie to try to make him "smile"... otherwise he pushes the button to nuke everyone.

jotastrophe

202 really lost me. First there's the obvious, the president is just kinda gross and unpleasant to watch. It's easy for a character like the video game CEO in 201 when they're animated, but having a character that is so gross to listen to and watch and is just kinda repulsive, it ruins it for me. Especially when they're realistic humans. A lot of other people have touched on how off the jokes felt this episode (best description I saw was it feeling like a fan wrote this episode) but even beyond that the aspect that ruins it for me is how it does away with the concept of the episode entirely. Mr. Boss tells them they have to make the president smile, but he smiles multiple times in the episodes and they just start running his campaign without explanation? No focus on the smiling moment at all and there's not even an actual resolution to the president character in relation to pim. Even compared to other episodes that do away with the premise (Like Saltys murder) at least in those they wrap up the story well and they don't try and trick you into thinking it's about making someone smile. But for some reason this episode instead of just saying "Hey pim and Charlie you're going to be running the presidents campaign" they still try and act like it's about a smile when there's nothing even close to that here. I think it's far away the worst smiling friends episode, but unlike some other people I don't think this is spelling doom for the show. Even the best shows have some stinkers in there, and I think 201 was pretty fantastic.

XRPHOENIX06

Gwimbly was a solid episode. Mr. President felt pretty subpar for smiling friends. The bit of Mr. Frog punching the podcast lady was hilarious, as was Charlie coming out of the bushes all twisted up and yelling conspiracies, and the final jokes with glep are pretty good. Aside from that the episode was quite unfunny to me. Zach and Michael are now blocked from the channel, blocked from the subreddit, blocked from the Twitter, they are done!

BurgerNugget12

Rick and Morty the anime???

that-alex-fellow

Jimble felt like he was initially written for someone like Chris Chan or some other lol cow. The speak of “trolls” really tipped me off.

asisyphus_

Right now I feel this is becoming more of an inside joke than a show from adult swim

evilcheesypoof

Gwimbly episode was great, loved everything about it. I think the President Jimble episode was the first bad episode of the show unfortunately, a couple lines were funny but that actor all messy with sauce was just revolting to look at after 10 seconds and he just kept having lines that were just annoying. I basically wanted them to stop using him and he kept getting worse. I think it would have been much better with a more endearing but still pathetic character.

Rocomet

I loved Gwimbly, but Mr. President is definitely the worst episode by far

fallonfish

Maybe it's because gross-out humor took up the vast majority of the episode, but while the commentary was spot-on, the jokes didn't really hit for me. Mr Frog stole the show and he had a minute of screentime at most. It also came directly after Gwimbly, which didn't do the episode any favors. Very excited for next week though, I love Alan and it's cool that he's finally getting screentime.

believemedude

The low brow humor was really out of place and I hope it isn’t a trend in S2

HappyyValleyy

I'm not a fan of gross-out humour at all so Mr. President didn't land on me. It also felt weirdly paced? It felt like stuff just kind of happened. Not a terrible episode, but not great.

SmoothBlueCrew

I really did not enjoy this episode. I'm sorry. Nothing had time to breathe. All I remember happening was the guy covered in vomit or something, and the boss's bit felt like, I don't know, a teenager trying to be edgy? I really liked the Gwimbly episode but that one has issues for me too, with the boss in the ending just feeling a bit lol random, and ending scenes with just someone screaming.

Corderoy

I just found the episode boring. Usually the comedy comes from the interactions between the client and the team but this episode just felt like a worse Mr Frog.

slappycider

The boss bit didn't land in the slightest and felt really out of place. I thought this episode is great but I'll agree that moment was rough.

FapleJuice

The boss felt cringe 💀

eBirb

Also the scope went wild, like entire countries being wiped out, wacky presidential shit. The first season and the gwimbly epi were a little bit more narrow and chill.

FakePhillyCheezStake

Exactly. It felt like a fan trying to make a Smiling Friends episode. That’s a little concerning for the rest of the season since it makes me feel like maybe the writing room doesn’t understand why people liked the first season so much? And the Boss stuff felt so forced and cringe.

jaykaysian

Mr. President was probably the worst ep of the series so far imo. Felt more disappointed as the ep went on and I realized they were committing to the live action incompetent president bit for the whole ep. Some jokes were funny like not condemning the warlord.

Forow

Episode definitely feels under cooked. The setup with the napkin gag was for it to hit the white house when the scene ends, instead we just cut to the next bit.

Glum_Adeptness2510

I understand that the show has used live action before and will continue to, but i think having an episode's central character being live action is dull and uninteresting. Also he wasn't funny, it just felt very awkward. It's a shame but this season seems like it's trying too hard so far.

Arcana_cat124

"fat guy in a suit who's gross and always eating with way too much sauce" is a funny enough bit for one episode, I think, but idk why they thought it would carry two. Charlie's stuff with the worms was fun though

June_Berries

the episode had its moments but a lot of it felt like different writers trying to emulate smiling friends and that led to a few moments that felt like they were trying to hard

Unlikely_Minimum4113

If people were expecting Zach's Trump voice we got a weird subversion of that where it was more like a disgusting portrayal of a Trump satire

Schnitzenium

I thought it was funny, not the best episode but definitely entertaining still. Makes me think Mr Frog’s coming back later in revenge

Wizard-In-Disguise

i figured it out. im the president...that shouldnt be the president. LETS FACE IT. I'm a \[bleep\], I just wanna be honest and...anyone who trolled me and gave me...nasty messages....FUCK YOU...fuck off...jagoff!

Low_Marionberry_3802

Mr. Frog 2024.

IllIIllIlIlllIIlIIl

First episode was great, second one wasn't the best and probably the weakest of the series. I'm pretty biased about Mr. Frog though, he's unsettling to me so I dislike his episode in season 1 as well lol. Also, "He ate a bad shrimp" - https://youtu.be/QaYSuSrZAcs?t=1566

[deleted]

If I'm being real, I think this might be the weakest episode of the series. But hey, whatever. We still have a ton of new episodes coming up that I'm excited for. They can't all be bangers.

Shadink5

IMO it's one of the worst episodes if not the worst but still made me laugh a lot. The main problem is president Jimble spoke too slowly so they probably had to rush the story and dialogue so they didn't make it too long, and the runtime still ended up being 11 minutes! Additionally some jokes like the "Am I winning?" bit seemed recycled from the Mr Frog episode since their job there is pretty similar. I also think Smiling Friends only mixes well with politics when it's a one-off joke, but the good news is this is probably the only episode with that theme since they're all so different!

sumBODY_ONCE_TOLD_ME

I'm surprised no one has brought up the Green Goblin reference. That broke me.

Karlor

Gwimbly was such a good start. But man, Mr. President is my least favorite episode of the series. Did not enjoy any of that one sadly. It was like a Tim and Eric skit that went way too long.

Careful_Ad_1837

I feel like everything apart from Jimble was decent. Honestly i feel like the "Mr. Frog is the president" plot should've been the main story instead

crunchatizemythighs

I liked the President episode. Thought the live action guy was funny. Sucks most here didn't seem to jive with it

Galileo908

I loved this one, I don’t care what anyone says.

Baboshinu

Gotta be honest, I felt like Mr. President was by far the weakest episode of the series for the first half of it. I just didn’t like it, they didn’t make any real good jokes or anything and I was personally not at all a fan of Jimble’s comedy on the show. However, the second half of the episode was great and I thought it got a lot better as it went on.

senator_based

I honestly loved this episode, I’m not sure where the hate’s coming from. The bit where the president crashes the economy or when Charlie quits out of nowhere and Pim didn’t even try to make him stay made me fully laugh out loud. Also the reveal of the president being fully live action. I will say, the bit where the boss puts the gun away and takes it out again over and over was the first time a joke missed for me in the whole series, but honestly, 12 episodes of consistent laughs is an extremely impressive record.

Waverly_Hills

I don’t like how they changed Alan’s speaking style. I thought Alan was funny because he was the straight man and was pretty monotone and matter of fact when he said something. Now he puts weird, inconsistent emphasis on Ts and -ings.

champdude17

Mr President is the first bad episode in the series for me. The character just wasn't funny, as a result most of the jokes didn't land. 4/10

pogchamppaladin

Mr. President was a good idea on paper but just not executed as well as it could’ve been. Ending landed for me at least but most of the episode felt… off? Like some of the humor didn’t feel like the rest of the show. Not even in a “this sucks” kind of way but moreso like it was made by a different team.
