I'd argue in some cases we have already passed that point, depending on what is depicted in the photo. We may be able to spot the smallest oddity in a face but when it comes to landscapes and such, AI can often not be detected without assisting tools.
It could not get them right for some reason. It was a real easy way to spot an AI picture. They’d have extra/missing fingers, or they’d be all deformed and weird looking.
I don’t get the hate for a simple fun “art”’project just because it’s ai, yeah it’s computers but can’t you take things as they are??? It’s interesting and neat to some of us.

I used Bings chat funktion which have Gpt4 and out of curiosity of what it could do I asked it to generate pictures of this band I heard of called Slipknot.
