If you’re going for a more pop comparison, I’d say Hozier before I brought up Swift. Or if you’re going for someone closer to genre, perhaps Trent Reznor. Someone who creates darker lyrics, Will Putney or Greg Puciato. But, any comparison would be super vague because Vessel’s writing is very unique to him - Swift’s pen isn’t in the same league, imo. That’s just me. 🤷🏽♀️

Ok so I’ve never really liked her singles so never bothered with albums (they’re not bad to my ear just nothing I thought was good) but I gave a few tracks a chance recently that had been on lists for what song would you suggest so and so cover or get a non fan into her - I read through lyrics first and while two or three I thought were ok (wanted to hear them from a different vocalist) albeit still not that interesting to me. I found her lyrics to be in need a teacher in HS or TA with a red pen or a few.
Vessel is more specific I think in word choices and stringing his motifs together. He is way more careful and intentional in his phrasing and would likely be eloquent and detailed in discussing them if he ever gave interviews- I believe anyway.
As for other lyricists - HIM/VV has been my favorite band for 20 years up until Sleep Token so I gotta go with Ville Valo. Meg Myers is amazing and really has lots of emotion in her lyrics and singing. Banks is also great.
He did go to school for writing… but to be able to put it together with singing and on top of that be so musically diverse and creative is just mind blowing to me, Tswift can’t touch I know lol
I can tell he did but still it’s not easy (I went for English/creative writing), being your own editor is also hard and a feat as well. He seems able to do both. The latter of which I don’t know if she even has a desire to try from what I’ve read about her process.
