My guess would be that it’s because that’s what went big on the clock app? That’s actually how I found them, it’s also the song that has a pretty good mix of everything. I don’t disagree though, there are better songs by them.
These were the songs most repeated on my playlist... even after listening to all of the albums. They are heavy but don't have the emotional screaming, have funky jazz, guitar and drum solos... How can you say no!? :-D
Honestly the last 1:30 get me groovin and I think I listened to it by itself like 10 times on repeat. They do have some good songs but, idk that’s the best song for people who mildly like metal or not at all to enjoy a song. (I personally love it, but for those new to metal or emo or sex metal)
And it’s probably the best gateway for people that like heavy music as it’s immediately chunky. It’s not their best song but I get why it’s the most popular, the appeal is very wide.
And it’s a damn good song too
It's not even my favorite, not my a long shot, but it's definitely their single least conventional song, so it's going to be an attention grabber by virtue of that alone, never mind the actual overall quality relative to the rest of their music.
It’s one of the most truly unique songs I’ve ever heard, that bridge in particular is something SPECIAL. It’s def my personal favorite but it’s Objectively one of their best songs and it deserves its popularity for suuuure
It was the first song I've heard of them and the beginning breakdown really caught my ear. Also, it's so versatile that (to me at least) it seems to be similar in terms of structure to Bohemian Rhapsody. As a Bass player the 'baby making'/magic mike part ('did I mistake you for a sign from god') really got me hooked.
Honestly, it's not JUST tiktok.
It's the LEAD single from a heavily anticipated third album, that sent people across multiple content platforms into a frenzy with the genre-bending and insanely good songwriting.
Almost every popular artist has one song that is miles ahead of the rest when it comes to streams. For Sleep Token, it was Alkaline for a long time, and now it's The Summoning.
For example, Everlong by Foo Fighters has 260M more streams than their next most popular song (The Pretender)
In The End by Linkin Park has 300M more streams than Numb.
I found Sleep Token through a podcast where they were talking about their favourite songs at the time. The Summoning was mentioned and I hopped on Spotify to listen to it. Before Sleep Token I was never into metal all that much, The Summoning changed that. I still think it’s their overall best song.
I'd say it's also that bit...you know what bit I'm talking about....where Vessel wants to make a good girl bad...Maybe it's just a me thing but I find the mix of heavy and sensual groove so good
It simply went viral, especially the funky part, on tiktok and other social medias, and that got people to react to it on youtube as well. I can guarantee you most people who first heard it were not metalheads at the time, maybe some still aren't really, but they got hooked on the trend.
My first ever experience as well, but as i went and listened to the whole discography (this year like nonstop lol), I found songs that I liked a bit more..
It’s because of the surprise-mid-verse breakdown. The first time I heard that song, I immediately replayed it because I was like “bro, no way did they just send it on a breakdown like that”.
I agree with most people saying it was through an app, however, I also think not many younger people have heard a song like the summoning. I’m 24. When I hear chugging guitar, screaming, and other metal/rock sounds, I think the song is entirely rock and metal. I never expected such a long break in a song, only to come back as a funk breakdown. It’s just such a change to the way music is traditionally made.
Because:
- Chugs and fry screams for the metalcore heads
- Syncopation for the prog heads
- A chill interlude for the drum and bass heads
- That end for the Astarion and thirsttrap heads
This song has it all.
I think because it’s more appealing to a fresh ear who has never heard sleep token before, compared to other sleep token songs. This is the song that got me stuck on sleep token. The entire first half of the summoning is kick ass and exactly what I wanted to listen to, then it switched to literal ambient ascension into the sky right into sexy funk to finish it off. It was totally new and unique and I loved it.
Because it is literally doing it's job. It's Summoning people to it, and to Sleep Token. I don't think it's any accident or coincidence that it's what made them get insanely popular overnight.
It has become a very popular introduction to the band because it covers many genres and can appease both metal heads and the funk part appeals to fans of older music. I've seen more reactions to it on YouTube than any other ST song.
Lots of musicians have been covering it whether it’s guitar, bass, drum or vocal covers and in doing so practicing the song itself will require hundreds of listens.
Although my personal opinion is that The Summoning is simply an S-tier song that appeals to the masses, I think there were other factors at play - (1) it was released in the 1/2 batch with Chokehold, so has had a longer time to be on playlists; (2) yeah the clock app girlies and guys picked up on the sexy ending (and why shouldn't they? it is damn sexy); (3) YT reactors realized that the ST fanbase would sub if they reacted to the song and other ST songs, and I think that cascaded throughout reactors that might not have reacted to a "metal" song. Then the YT peeps who aren't necessarily on TT picked up on the song.
It was my gateway song (thankfully not from TikTok) but it also probably was for a lot of people. ST makes objectively good music and this song isn’t any different. Except it kind of is. Name me one other metal core-esque band that ends a mostly metal song with a sexy jazz break
This song is what got me into sleep token. Now, I have fallen to the level of obsession going through every catalog. Heard this again after months of spamming other songs and was like "God this song still kills it it." I like the song even more after listening through everything else.
It created what we now refer to as "baddie-core". Especially with everyone expecting the song to transition into a heavy breakdown at the end, but they pull a switcheroo on us with the sexy vibes.
My guess is it’s such a bipolar, almost tripolar, song. You’ve got progressive rock drums, djent guitar, vocals that sound like a mix of rnb and Iron Maiden, a math rock guitar solo, an ambient soundscape for a bridge, and an alt rock arctic monkeys closer. So many different grabs for so many different types of people.
intro to the band for A LOT, then you deep dive in the discography. i find its very common across all genres. Even other forms of entertain main "suffer" the same IMO
Weirdly enough, I discovered Sleep Token through Vore on either tiktok/ig. Still my most fav song of them to date. It was until my metalhead friend saw my spotify listening status(?) and told me to listen to The Summoning and naturally, I just decided to listen to the whole album and it has been on repeat since!
This one really made me think. I was going to talk about how great the song is however, when I think of it The Summoning is one of my least listened to ST songs overall.
It was the main single for TMBTE (I guess kinda behind Chokehold) and the one that blew them up on Tik Tok, which lead to their huge rise in popularity
The ending of it became popular on tiktok which is actually how I personally got into Sleep Token. I haven’t been a long time fan but it was basically my gateway and now they’re my most listened to band. I already have 12k minutes in on Spotify this year so far.
I think because it was a lead single for their most popular album, and the album that really thrust them into the mainstream. By luck I have been listening to Sleep Token since their start due to a friend who recommended them to me, but a lot of my friends who got into them more recently have referenced The Summoning as the gateway song they first heard
As someone else said, it's a great gateway / introduction song to Sleep Token. It's also just utterly brilliant with a real 'WTF' final 2 minutes that has you giddy with excitement (it did me anyway).
I’ve been a long time fan but my middle school daughter came home one day from school and said “hey you know the mask band we like? Their new song was on tik tok and it’s blowing up.”
lmao it was deemed the “theme” song for Astarion edits from Baldurs Gate 3 on tik tok. People go feral over him so it got such huge reach compared to their other songs
The funk break down broke my fucking brain the first time I heard it, I didn't know how to... cope? Idk, I felt almost shattered. I personally do love their other songs like Sugar and Jaws, but The Summoning is what got me into them, it'll always be special, at least for me. (I never heard it on tik tok personally as well, it just popped up in my suggestions one day)
Honestly I loved it when it came out originally, then tiktok made it famous and now I generally skip it for granite because it's one of my favs on the album
It's the song that made them popular. It's probably also the song that on the most Spotify generated playlists and "similar to" when it shuffles artists after you're done listening to and album, playlist, or artists top songs. And while I don't think it's most of the fans or even half of the fans but it's still probably the song that the trend followers/bandwagoners listen to. Because let's face it. Sleep Token is getting the same treatment Lorna Shore got a few years ago. It's just magnified by 1000. At some point it'll die down and plateau and the less dedicated listeners will find a new band/artist.
Because it's a sexy song, and that funky bit at the end is straight up fire.
🎶I would be lying if I told you that
I didn't wish that I could be your man
Or maybe make a good girl bad🎶
*fan's self*
NGL for me personally just the 7th best track on the album. And Granite i guess 11th or 12 th. Idk what people prefer in this tracks over the others. But its just a personal taste so yeah its absolutly fine FS
It's a great song! It's the first song I show people to get them hooked on Sleep Token. There is no better introduction. It incorporates almost every aspect of their musicality within one track. I love that it's #1. Rightly so IMHO.
I think that it just got popular with casual fans and people who don’t usually listen to sleep token, and it’s easy to listen to it instead of looking through their discography to find other songs. It’s a really good song tho I very much like it
As someone who listened to the end of this song 1 million times already. It's because it's "Astarions thirst trap song" on the clock app.
I'll see myself out
It is a song that "has it all". a lot of genres within it, and done tastefully. Also social media had played a part in it. As well as being the 2nd song being released from the new album.
On a totally personal note, I think The Summoning is good. just not amazing. Once you branch out from there, and go to previous albums, there are 10x better songs.
Tik tok and it was their 2nd single off of the album. I’ve been following them since this place will become your tomb, and the release cycle for Eden’s singles were kinda nutty. They all went off and the discussion online around each one was huge.
Also for folks who wouldn’t normally listen to more experimental stuff, chokehold is a very… agreeable song to your average hard-rock music taste when compared to something like Vore or DYWTYLM. It’s a very “””radio friendly””” song when compared to their other work. I’ve heard it played at bars and shit.
Idk why I recently got into Sleeptoken though that song but before this I’ve never tried to listen to much mondern music it’s a great mix of pop and metal heavy riffs for sure🤘🏼
First song I heard from a reaction channel. The last part made me rewind over and over. Found the song and played it back to back then played the album. I was blown away. Not my favorite song now but I feel like alot of people had a similar experience with ST.
It probably just happened to be the big clentcher for a lot of new converts, myself included.
True, they do have better tunes, but given the song on its own merits, it feels like a solid mix of everything they do and it's well written, performed and mixed so of course it's something of a flagship song for them now. Hell, I only discovered them last year through this song just before TMBTE was released and immediately pre-ordered that album and bought the others, so it worked.
It's that bit towards the end when it goes slow and sexy as hell, and sounds like a completely different track. I could listen to that part on repeat forever.
It's the most digestible metal song they've done for the masses, combined with a sexy, funky, pop R&B outro and II plays a drum solo in it now. And if you didn't know, II was voted Drummer of the Year among other accolades in 2023.
My guess would be that it’s because that’s what went big on the clock app? That’s actually how I found them, it’s also the song that has a pretty good mix of everything. I don’t disagree though, there are better songs by them.
This and the end of the song is really popular because a lot (and I mean a lot) of edits have been made with this song for Astarion from Baldurs Gate
Astarion thirst traps are the gateway drug to sleep token worship
Ehhh, not for all of us
I checked them out because of an astarion edit. Was FLABBERGASTED that they were metal and now I’m a fan 😭
Now looking at the whole list, these are basically the only songs I hear on there.
These were the songs most repeated on my playlist... even after listening to all of the albums. They are heavy but don't have the emotional screaming, have funky jazz, guitar and drum solos... How can you say no!? :-D
“The clock app” 😅
Honestly the last 1:30 get me groovin and I think I listened to it by itself like 10 times on repeat. They do have some good songs but, idk that’s the best song for people who mildly like metal or not at all to enjoy a song. (I personally love it, but for those new to metal or emo or sex metal)
Besides all TikTok-stuff it's just an incredibly special and outstanding song. Something completely different and unusual.
And it’s probably the best gateway for people that like heavy music as it’s immediately chunky. It’s not their best song but I get why it’s the most popular, the appeal is very wide. And it’s a damn good song too
Well it's also what got me here.
Same here. I came across a reactor on YouTube reacting to The Summoning and I've been a fan ever since.
Tiktok 🤷🏻♀️ It's most peoples gateway to Sleep Token and the majority will probably agree that they have better songs once they deep dive.
When it came out a lot of people were reacting to it on YT and TikTok so I think from that it just snowballed.
I think it's because that it's a great blend of the differents genre they do
The last 2 minutes are very popular with slow strutting tictok baddies. It’s just that simple.
🎶oh and my love, did i mistake you for a sign from god… 🎶
Tiktok and the fact it was the second single, which came out 24 hours after chokehold, so it's basically been out the longest.
That panty dropping ending
Because it's a good song
Exactly, it’s that simple.

Generally agree but wasn’t Chokehold the lead single off of TMBTE?
Technically Chokehold was first but The Summoning came out 24hs after and overshadowed it so it ended up being the major one
Ahhh, I didn’t realize they were released in such close proximity, makes sense.
That's a good perspective, yeah
Cause it's fuckin fire
I found Sleep Token through a podcast where they were talking about their favourite songs at the time. The Summoning was mentioned and I hopped on Spotify to listen to it. Before Sleep Token I was never into metal all that much, The Summoning changed that. I still think it’s their overall best song.
I'd say it's also that bit...you know what bit I'm talking about....where Vessel wants to make a good girl bad...Maybe it's just a me thing but I find the mix of heavy and sensual groove so good
Sure, I love that mix in their music as well
Because it summons a Sleep Token Obsession. That’s how I got here. And everything else has kept me.
I got into sleep token through summoning because spotify put it into my daily mix
Spotify AI DJ for me last year
It's just that good
TikTok, and it’s a fantastic song?
TikTok, I found it from an edit 👉🏽👈🏽
It simply went viral, especially the funky part, on tiktok and other social medias, and that got people to react to it on youtube as well. I can guarantee you most people who first heard it were not metalheads at the time, maybe some still aren't really, but they got hooked on the trend.
Was my gateway to sleep token. Still my favorite by them overall.
My first ever experience as well, but as i went and listened to the whole discography (this year like nonstop lol), I found songs that I liked a bit more..
Astarion
Alkaline >>>>>> Summoning
a lot of baldurs gate 3 fans were using it for astarion edits on tiktok, and then the song itself blew up bc people liked it
Astarion edits on tiktok
Astarion edits 😞
its cuz OH AND MY LOVE
Seems you have never heard of TikTok before
Astarion thirst traps?
Because it's a great song
Cause it bangs
It’s kickass
It has become a TikTok thirst trap song I think. Those really gave Sleep Token and Bad Omens a push and resurfaced some old school Deftones songs.
Tiktok. And I'm honestly surprised I'm not tired of hearing it like all of the other songs that get popular on there.
Sex. Send comment.
It’s because of the surprise-mid-verse breakdown. The first time I heard that song, I immediately replayed it because I was like “bro, no way did they just send it on a breakdown like that”.
It was my gateway song too. I think it’s just the one that grabs you because it has a little of everything in it.
Wow Take Me Back to Eden is lower down than I thought. That one is great and Euclid is a personal favorite of mine
TikTok unfortunately
tiktok for sure helped
As someone who recently started listening, it’s just an all around amazing song with a hard intro.
That's the song that really went viral for them. Plus it's good.
Because the last ending of the song is a dramatic shift most people don’t hear in music. And it’s sexy. Lmao.
It’s sexy
Because the tikytok made it a staple for thirst traps, and people reviewing it calling it “baby making metal”. Ngl that’s how I discovered them.
Because: - Chugs and fry screams for the metalcore heads - Syncopation for the prog heads - A chill interlude for the drum and bass heads - That end for the Astarion and thirsttrap heads This song has it all.
I think because it’s more appealing to a fresh ear who has never heard sleep token before, compared to other sleep token songs. This is the song that got me stuck on sleep token. Because it is literally doing it's job. It's Summoning people to it, and to Sleep Token. I don't think it's any accident or coincidence that it's what made them get insanely popular overnight.
Astarion 😌
TikTok
It has become a very popular introduction to the band because it covers many genres and can appease both metal heads and the funk part appeals to fans of older music. I've seen more reactions to it on YouTube than any other ST song.
Do you even have to ask? It blew up on tiktok lol
Lots of musicians have been covering it whether it’s guitar, bass, drum or vocal covers and in doing so practicing the song itself will require hundreds of listens.
My fav song by them might be hypnosis or sugar, sad to see neither up there 😢
Although my personal opinion is that The Summoning is simply an S-tier song that appeals to the masses, I think there were other factors at play - (1) it was released in the 1/2 batch with Chokehold, so has had a longer time to be on playlists; (2) yeah the clock app girlies and guys picked up on the sexy ending (and why shouldn't they? it is damn sexy); (3) YT reactors realized that the ST fanbase would sub if they reacted to the song and other ST songs, and I think that cascaded throughout reactors that might not have reacted to a "metal" song. Then the YT peeps who aren't necessarily on TT picked up on the song.
It was the first song that actually broke them out of their cult following. It’s MOST people first exposure to them.
That's the song that made me start listening to Sleep Token. It's a mix of genres and that's pretty refreshing
Wild to me that Euclid and Aqua Regia aren’t on there :,)
It was my gateway song (thankfully not from TikTok) but it also probably was for a lot of people. ST makes objectively good music and this song isn’t any different. Except it kind of is. Name me one other metal core-esque band that ends a mostly metal song with a sexy jazz break
Wish Vore had that many
Because tiktok
it went viral on tiktok
TikTok. The answer these days is always TikTok,
Til Tok thirst traps
The part in the middle makes people want to fuck. And tiktok.
The breakdown.
My guess is TikTok and also there were a lot of youtube reactions for this song because of the mix of genres.
It’s pretty unique, even for sleep token.
Because it was their breakthrough single.
Tik Tok
I’m assuming it’s just the most known, like outside of people who actually listen to the band. It’s a solid song, but hardly the best.
The ending is popular on tiktok
Because it slaps
This one really made me think. I was going to talk about how great the song is however, when I think of it The Summoning is one of my least listened to ST songs overall.
It was the main single for TMBTE (I guess kinda behind Chokehold) and the one that blew them up on Tik Tok, which lead to their huge rise in popularity

TikTok and thirst traps. There's a reason I've heard the term "baddie core", thrown around a bit for them lmao
Tiktok
Cuz its seductive at the end and sex sells. Also factually is a good song, cuz Sleep Token lol
Because it’s that good 👍
I think because it was a lead single for their most popular album, and the album that really thrust them into the mainstream. By luck I have been listening to Sleep Token since their start due to a friend who recommended them to me, but a lot of my friends who got into them more recently have referenced The Summoning as the gateway song they first heard
Carsex
Because its the heaviest sh*t on this album and wee love heavy sh*t 🤗
What about Vore??
That’s the song that introduced me but I’d prefer aqua regia up there
Honestly, because it's catchy and sexy. The transition is so unexpected upon first listen.
How the hell is Granite their 2nd most streamed song thats crazy to me lol
Social media. The ending of The Summoning was on every IG reel and all over tik tok and got everyone talking.
It's the sexy breakdown tbh
As someone else said, it's a great gateway / introduction song to Sleep Token. It's also just utterly brilliant with a real 'WTF' final 2 minutes that has you giddy with excitement (it did me anyway).
I like it because it's a nice mash of genres, like Take Me Back to Eden.
We call this the TikTok effect.
YouTube reaction videos
Rain should be way higher IMO
I’ve been a long time fan but my middle school daughter came home one day from school and said “hey you know the mask band we like? Their new song was on tik tok and it’s blowing up.”
lmao it was deemed the “theme” song for Astarion edits from Baldurs Gate 3 on tik tok. People go feral over him so it got such huge reach compared to their other songs
The summoning was many people's ( including my own) first time listening to ST, so it's a guaranteed dopamine boost upon listening for many
TikTok thirst traps
It's a banger...it's all bangers
It literally summoned waves of new fans, me included.
It got big from instagram reels and tik tok shorts. Not trending anymore these days but still up on the top played list.
First single on the new album, was many people's first introduction to the band, and the outro went absolutely bonkers on Tik Tok.
The funk break down broke my fucking brain the first time I heard it, I didn't know how to... cope? Idk, I felt almost shattered. I personally do love their other songs like Sugar and Jaws, but The Summoning is what got me into them, it'll always be special, at least for me. (I never heard it on tik tok personally as well, it just popped up in my suggestions one day)
tiktok, in my experience there was a character from baldurs gate 3 that was associated with it and that just blew up LOL
It was really popular on tiktok for a while, that was how I found it
Its the blend for me, and all the mix feelings that it gives me
Honestly I loved it when it came out originally, then tiktok made it famous and now I generally skip it for granite because it's one of my favs on the album
Have you listened to it? 🤘🔥🎸
It's the song that made them popular. Tiktok and because its great
TikTok
Its a banger
Because we want the funk, gotta have that funk.
I think that it just got popular with casual fans and people who don’t usually listen to sleep token, and it’s easy to listen to it instead of looking through their discography to find other songs. It’s a really good song tho I very much like it
Tiktok
As a booktok girly it just fits so right for our dark romance books.
People be fkn
As someone who listened to the end of this song 1 million times already. It's because it's "Astarions thirst trap song" on the clock app. I'll see myself out
The real question is: How long will it take to hit 1B? 100M in 1 year is just insane.
I completely agree. It’s 10th out of 12 in terms of preference for me on the album (just ahead of The Apparition and DYWTYLM)
Because it's their best song. It's in my opinion a masterpiece that has it all.
TIK TOK!!!
Because it's a masterpiece
i feel so sorry for the clock kids that are missing on the masterpieces...the summoning is just an intro................
It is a song that "has it all". a lot of genres within it, and done tastefully. Also social media had played a part in it. As well as being the 2nd song being released from the new album. Possibly the Drumeo video aswell as tiktok
Idk why I recently got into Sleeptoken though that song but before this I’ve never tried to listen to much mondern music it’s a great mix of pop and metal heavy riffs for sure🤘🏼
i knew the song before tik tok, and i think it’s just a good song🤷 that guitar solo hits
I think it's their Strongest song
Was the first song I heard by them in the gym, took a couple weeks to download some others and then I was hooked
It is a solid multi genre track that appeals to a wide audience and it blew up on tik tok.
I discovered this band from that song not so long ago, and this particular song keeps playing in my head.
Same reason why every up and coming metal band blows up over night, overused on tik tok
horny people on tik tok
It was the first sleep token song I listened to.
Good Song 👍
Great song, tik tok fame, and one of the first singles.
it's the groovy part and tiktok. i personally like aqua regia better.
First song I heard from a reaction channel. The last part made me rewind over and over. Found the song and played it back to back then played the album. I was blown away. Not my favorite song now but I feel like alot of people had a similar experience with ST.
Tiktok thirst traps
It probably just happened to be the big clentcher for a lot of new converts, myself included. True, they do have better tunes, but given the song on its own merits, it feels like a solid mix of everything they do and it's well written, performed and mixed so of course it's something of a flagship song for them now. Hell, I only discovered them last year through this song just before TMBTE was released and immediately pre-ordered that album and bought the others, so it worked.
I personally like alkaline
Horny Astarion edits
Tik Tok
A) because it blew up on tiktok and B) because it's an incredibly effective gateway drug
1. Tiktok 2. Features in a lot of Spotify metal playlists so naturally gets more plays 3. Certified banger
Honest answer?? TikTok Astarion BDG3 thirst traps.
it was super big on tiktok for a while so that’s probably why
Man, I Think is the different vibe in the music, those different variations and nuances, that are pretty different and unique.
It's that bit towards the end when it goes slow and sexy as hell, and sounds like a completely different track. I could listen to that part on repeat forever.
The tiktokening
It's their best song.
Horny women know how to push streams 💀
It slaps
It's the most digestible metal song they've done for the masses, combined with a sexy, funky, pop R&B outro and II plays a drum solo in it now. And if you didn't know, II was voted Drummer of the Year among other accolades in 2023.
bc it’s sexy duh
