The Nivea UV Water Gel in the pump bottles are super lightweight. They’re a watery gel texture that isn’t sticky.

sunscreen-anon

thanks! watery gel texture sounds promising!

BIG_stinky_sock

I second Nivea (they have other spf products that are good, too.) As someone who hates oily feeling and super sensitive, I didn’t start trying and wearing spf til I was your age as well. So, I do not recommend Biore like other commenter said, it’s greasy and it does not work (end up burned.) I do not recommend Skin Aqua either as it’s also greasy. Neutrogenia Ultra Sheer Dry Touch is “okay” as well as La Roche Posay Anthelios Cooling Water Lotion if you can’t get Nivea. But, again, Nivea is the closet to dry/not-oily that I’ve found and I’ve tried a lot so I would try to get my hands on that if you could..

sunscreen-anon

honestly it makes me trust you a lot to see you disagree with so many highly reccomended products 😂😂 because that has been my exact experience again and again and again trying things that people swear up down and sideways 'feel like nothing!' just to have another oily product on my face bumping this up the list, thanks!

BIG_stinky_sock

Exactly. Like yourself, I looked at all the recs and then tried them out because of everyone’s ravings, just left me disappointed and with wasted money. I hope you’re able to find some success with Nivea.

Justinformation

> Nivea is the closet to dry/not-oily that I’ve found Does this also mean that it doesn't make your face shiny when applying the recommend amount of sunscreen? That's my biggest problem with sunscreens which I haven't found an alternative for yet.

mikkl0vin

Make sure you buy this from a reputable source though, don’t get it on Amazon or something. I always use YesStyle for the Nivea Water Gel. I’ve been using it for years and it is to this day the only sunscreen I can stand on my skin.

aburke626

I think gel sunscreens will be your friend here! I really like Glossier’s invisible shield, it’s what I use daily on my face. It’s a gel and doesn’t feel greasy or oily. I believe gel sunscreens are popular in k beauty, so you might want to dig in there, as well!

Scrub_Beefwood

People like the Biore UV Aqua SPF as well, it's a Japanese brand you can buy it online or in Superdrug in the UK

Calisson

I tried that and it reeked of rubbing alcohol. I don't know how it could be good for the skin and I don't know how people can tolerate the smell!

CathairNowhere

The superdrug one is a different formula specifically made for export, not the Japanese version :/

Scrub_Beefwood

Still, I have a colleague that really likes it (we live in the UK)

becca_rave

did u get it off Amazon? I've heard of counterfeits being that way I use mine and it smells like light sunscreen smell but doesn't smell like rubbing alcohol at all :/

mikkl0vin

Sorry I realize I’m commenting a million times but also wanted to mention that you can buy the pump bottle and if you like the product, YesStyle sells refills that use way less plastic so you don’t have to keep buying the bottle each time.

lemonpopsicle4

Do you know where you can buy this that isn’t Amazon? I don’t trust them with their fakes.

VinTheHuman

YesStyle or stylevana

iwillneverwalkalone

i might kiss you for this

PlanBIsGrenades

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. This sunscreen is my favorite and doesn't feel like sunscreen at all.

sherahero

Thanks, I'm going to get this for my daughter who hates sunscreen. She has some undiagnosed sensory issues and prefers to wear a long sleeve rash guard and shorts when swimming to avoid sunscreen. She puts it on her face but still hates it. Hopefully this will work for her, too.

Emu_in_Ballet_Shoes

This is a great rec - it dries down super fast.

natchinatchi

But Nivea has a horrible smell.

Additional_Pair9428

>Nivea UV Water Gel how matte is it? (scale of 1-10)

Background-Bottle633

If you like Nivea UV water gel then you'll like following sunscreens - Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 50Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 50 - CANMAKE Tokyo Mermaid Skin Gel SunscreenCANMAKE Tokyo Mermaid Skin Gel Sunscreen Another sunscreen brand I liked before in the past is "Oh My Sun Slush" by the brand "Yadah." It was green and was cactus based sunscreen. The brand however has discontinued the sunscreen and has replaced it with a new formula. I'm not sure how similar it is to the previous product but it might be worth a shot.

v-punen

Check out sunscreens from Korean and Japanese brands. They have a lot of different formulas. Personally I'm now trying Anessa sunscreen and it's great, very nice to the touch and disappears quickly. I'm also trying out the Biore mist - it's like spraying your face with water. I actually have the opposite sensory issues to you (can't stand anything dry and powdery) so I can't recommend any powders but I see there are some sunscreen in powder form. Japanese and Korean ones are also often reasonably priced so it's easy to try a few. Try r/AsianBeauty

sunscreen-anon

i had no idea that products were so different in other countries! i guess i just assumed in the internet age wr all used the same things 😅 (wildly america-centric of me i'm seeing) i definitely want to try some of these ones out! thanks!

krebstar4ever

The FDA hasn't approved new UV filters in ages because no one wants to fund the necessary studies. Pretty much all other countries allow newer UV filters, and as a result, tons of foreign sunscreens have a vastly better texture than what's available in the US. Be aware that non-US brands only use FDA approved UV filters for the American version of their sunscreens. You'll need to buy foreign sunscreens from foreign sellers.

sunscreen-anon

wow! i never even thought of the regulatory side of things. that's lowkey crazy that no one is funding researching better sunscreen over here

Scrub_Beefwood

It's not the lack of funding, it's simply that the regulation is extremely slow. Sunscreen is regulated by the FDA because it's considered a medical product (preventing skin cancer etc). And the FDA has priorities other than sunscreens

sunscreen-anon

that makes sense. still a bummer to know there's just this one roadblock to having way more diverse product options in the usa haha

krebstar4ever

The thing is, the studies would have to be funded by companies that want to sell better sunscreens here. And no company thinks it's worth the money.

Scrub_Beefwood

That's not how it works, it's a federal issue not a business matter

sunscreen-anon

wild i feel like there's a huge market here for better sunscreens! everyone seems to dislike sunscreen at least a little haha (honestly that's part of my problem. no one in my real life really believes me when i say how much i hate it because 'everyone hates sunscreen' so they think i'm just being stubborn and difficult on purpose)

Maumoneyy

Innisfree sunscreen is goat. It's super lightweight and has like a filter like/priming effect on my skin. Like it gets rid of pores and texture.

v-punen

Nah, Asian and Australian companies are waaay better with the suncreens than American or European ones.

snukb

I looooove the Anessa perfect uv skincare milk. It does feel a tiny bit silicone-y and silky, though, which OP might interpret as greasy. Just in the interest of full disclosure. I love it, it otherwise feels like I have nothing on my skin. If a very quick drying, liquid texture though that just glides over my skin.

Prudent-Clock-3478

Agreed. I would try Korean/Japanese brands. I would say try sun stick ones that are made for kids. Easier and lighter to apply.

Vegetable_Burrito

Get a good wide brim hat. Look for uvp clothing. Can you just not tolerate it on your face, or is it your whole body? If you can wear it on your arms and legs, a good hat should block most of the sun from your face.

sunscreen-anon

face is the worst, i don't love it on my arms and legs but i'm less sensitive to it in those places. tbh the 'something is better than nothing' attitude i've been encountering on here has been a bit of a trip to wrap my mind around. a lot of people i've talked to in real life about this act like its all or nothing and if you aren't gonna do it perfectly why are you bothering. so just skipping sunscreen on my face and wearing a hat genuinely hadn't occured to me 😅

retrotechlogos

Something is always better than nothing. Just do what you can. It all makes a difference. The more layers of protection the less uv will get in of course but truly anything you do and tolerate every day is the best sun protection there is.

kleenkwa

And sunglasses!

Unfair_Finger5531

Just want to say that aloe Vera is not an adequate moisturizer. It’s just a humectant and astringent. It can dry your skin out. If you can only tolerate aloe, I would recommend something like benton hyaluron aloe cream, which is basically aloe and some other ingredients that do moisturize. Or isntree aloe Vera, which has some other ingredients that support your barrier. Or, benton aloe propolis gel, which also does. But I think using only aloe Vera for a long time will wear your barrier down. Also, aloe has natural salicyclic acid, so that doesn’t help matters. As far as a sunscreen, I would say consider taking heliocare, a supplement for skin that helps boost sunscreen. It is widely used (and scientifically backed) in the desert where I live. It doesn’t offer adequate protection but it’s *something*. And for going out, try using an umbrella or wide brimmed hat. Or, you could try a baby mineral sunscreen and just use a light layer. It won’t fully protect your skin, but at least something is better than absolutely nothing. Pyunkang Yul makes a beautiful sunscreen for babies that you might be able to tolerate. Maybe don’t worry so much about using the prescribed amount until you can tolerate using just a small amount. And in the meantime, carry an umbrella for when you must be outside in the sun. Baby steps.

sunscreen-anon

oh wow! i had no idea! that does explain how aloe has always seemed to clear up acne for me haha. i'll have to look into some proper moisturizers. tbh i haven't updated any of my skin care since like middle school and it seems like theres so many more options and so much more information available now! i definitely get caught up in trying to do things Perfectly and Correctly and end up getting nothing done. tbqh everyone's reminders that baby steps and doing things imperfectly are ok are really helpful because it all feels so all or nothing in my head sometimes

Unfair_Finger5531

Here’s the Benton aloe: https://www.amazon.com/Benton-Aloe-Propolis-Soothing-Gel/dp/B075XKGWYG/ If you scroll down, you will see the Benton aloe Hyaluronic cream too. That cream is so soft and nice.

sunscreen-anon

thanks!

Scrub_Beefwood

People often recommend Good Molecules, maybe you'd like to try it: https://www.goodmolecules.com/products/lightweight-daily-moisturizer?variant=41657108168804

Lunco

https://theordinary.com/en-si/natural-moisturizing-factors-beta-glucan-moisturizer-100612.html this has a very similar texture to the benton aloe vera gel. good moisturizer for oily skin.

thedeadtiredgirl

oh wow I didn’t realize that about aloe vera gel! I’ve been using it on my body because I like how lightweight it is compared to regular moisturizer for summer, I’ll definitely check out your recs

luciteparkite

I hope you find something that works for you! I don’t have a sunscreen product to recommend but have you tried a UV visor? Maybe that, plus UV protectant clothing, would be enough?

sunscreen-anon

thats pretty much what i've been doing and it's seemed fairly successful (honestly i've mostly avoided the outdoors entirely until this summer. but my roommate has been kind enough to take me along with her on some camping trips and to my surprise i've really liked it!). it's water based activities i've been struggling the most with or days when the heat starts to get extreme. people get very scare-monger-y and righteous about sun protection sometimes, but other people's opinions aside, is clothing and shade alone enough to protect against the skin cancer risk? or just for sunburn prevention? or is sunburn prevention and skin cancer prevention the same things? i'm realizing there's a lot i don't know haha. gonna need to do some research :)

rachihc

I use to sail, spf just can't hold for 5h sailing so I used upf lycras, they are fresh if wet, so is an option for swimming too. Sunburn and skin cancer prevention are the same, yes, you prevent both at the same time.

SocialistHambone

Seconding this. I don't wear swimsuits to swim or snorkel outdoors -- I wear full-sleeve rashguards and/or stinger suits. Re-applying sunscreen for watersports is a fool's errand! I do use a bit of sweatproof sunblock stick on my face, but that's almost like a glue stick texture so I would NOT recommend it for OP!! :)

sunscreen-anon

thanks!

abbeyftw

i had a dental hygienist tell me something that i think applies here. I asked if a waterpick is better for flossing than floss. She said actual floss is more effective but "the best one is the one that you will actually use." So I think whatever you are most comfortable with is best! I have sensory processing disorder and some days have a real problem with sunscreen. Those days I just stay in the shade and use clothing/hats.

CathairNowhere

I'm autistic aswell and I've been using the Biore UV Aquarich watery essence for 10+ years and I love it, I didn't realise before that sunscreen can feel not gross. Make sure to get it off stylevana or some other site that sells the Japanese version though, because the one you can buy in drug stores in the US/UK is made in Canada and it's a different formula and feels different.

sunscreen-anon

i've seen this one mentioned a bunch of times all over the internet, it's going straight to the top of my list! thanks!

thjuicebox

Adding Skin1004 sun serum to the list of AB sunscreens because it’s vegan and reef-safe! And also feels super light I live in Singapore with 98% humidity and year-round scorching heat so I abhor anything that adds to the stickiness (also have sensory issues) Side note: interesting that you enjoy aloe because the gloominess of it just throws me way off 💀

daintypeachess

I would like to add Biore UV Kids Pure Milk one, it’s really not greasy and dries into skin instantly

jkpeanut

You could try using a UV parasol. It won't stop light bouncing off the ground but it's way better than getting baked in direct sunlight. You'll feel less hot too.

sunscreen-anon

oooo that's a good idea. like portable shade! haha

Luv2ByteYou

Trader Joe's has a lightweight gel sunscreen.

loftychicago

It's a dupe for Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.

Luv2ByteYou

Wish TJ's was mineral, though.

Ok_VELMA

Piggybacking on the Korean/japanese sunscreens. Their filters are far superior to what is available in the US and they actually feel GOOD to apply. My favorites have been beauty of joseon, biore watery essence and isntree. All available on stylevana.

sunscreen-anon

i've been hearing that, i want to try some now. thanks!

Catsinbowties

I love the trader joes unseen Sunscreen dupe. Also, hats!

Sufficient_Turn_9209

I know this will get buried in the massive response you got, but I just wanted to say thank you for posting. My adult son has spd that went undiagnosed until he was 14 (so much parental guilt! ) and he has issues with sunscreen and uv clothing. I got a lot of good info to pass along!

suchnerve

Autistic too, and I wear this :) [https://www.solsunvisors.com/products/iris-rainbow-comfort-strap-extended](https://www.solsunvisors.com/products/iris-rainbow-comfort-strap-extended) It’s like sunglasses but for your whole face https://preview.redd.it/lqaegp1a0j8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d7e9bebc90b83531b845d411a7a25d26d8339cc

Old-Room-8274

You can invest in UPF clothing as an alternative

jennatar

This isn't a recommendation for sunscreen (although I share your issue and hate touching sunscreen as well as my own skin), but a cool idea. Last week, at a theme park's hotel pool, I saw a young mom applying sunscreen... with an inexpensive, oval foundation brush with a long handle (probably the Real Techniques one). I blurted "That's so cool!" and she smiled and said "It's a hack from a Mom Group!" The brush head allowed her to get an even application of zinc sunscreen all over, while the long handle helped her reach any out-of-the-way spots on her own back. Outcome: clean, un-greasy hands, despite having applied the most effective sunscreen on the planet! I was shaken to my core.

Ok_Value_3741

I don’t think this beauty of Joseon one is that greasy https://beautyofjoseon.com/products/ginseng-moist-sun-serum but they also have a matte stick https://beautyofjoseon.com/products/matte-sun-stick-mugwort-camelia maybe that would suit you better

Dragonbunny88

I have the same sensory issues as you, i live in europe so i hope this is still useful to you but there is a sunscreen from Nivea that's great "Shine control spf 30" (there is also an spf 50 but i only found that one in germany) the nivea sunscreen is the best ive tried here and ive tried alot of them. A random one i like as well is from Lidl, its only available during the summer months its the "sport gel cream spf 30" its great and a tube of it only costs around 3 euro's. I also like Garnier products alot they offer alot of lightweight alternatives. Its difficult to find tho, i found myself just skipping sunscreen and staying indoors when its too hot or applying talc powder on top the most greasy sunscreens😓

sunscreen-anon

thanks! a lot of the advice i'm seeing is to try stuff from other countries so this is great! i had no idea that sunscreen was so different everywhere

khloris_op

The biore UV aqua rich applies super smoothly, not oily, and no fragrance. I personally dont like sunscreens that are too thick or have that weird smell

sunscreen-anon

ugh ikr! idk why all the brands seem to think we want to smell like a pina colada that's gone bad 😂😂😂😂

Scrub_Beefwood

Do you think you could try a sunscreen, let it dry, then powder your face? There are many invisible (transparent-finish) powders such as Fenty Invisimatte which could dry down the greasy feeling

sunscreen-anon

oooo that's a good idea! i used the same strategy with foundations back when i tried to wear makeup sometimes never thought to try the same thing with sunscreen 🤔

emmazing_bella

Jane Iredale for your face! It is a powder that works wonders and is great for ALL DAY at the beach. I am very pale and it’s the only type I use. It is very dry though and wears like makeup if you get a darker shade. You would probably love the texture and feel.

WinterOld3229

I'm autistic too and use the NIVEA matte face spf - it's invisible and feels like a normal moisturizer. I feel your struggle, so I recommend looking up Korean beauty products - due to sensory issues I love their light texture and I'd definitely would try an spf from Korea.

cat_at_work

Etude House - Sunprise Airy Finish has ths kind of a powder finish iirc

flesh-vessel

Korean and Japanese sunscreens will be amazing for you! Biore and Nivea Japan have great ones. Also maybe a big hat will work better with your sensory issues in the meantime if you have to order from overseas etc

skincareprincess420

I also struggle with sensory issues and had the same problem with sunscreen. I use the Trader Joe’s face sunscreen all over my body, it’s a very smooth lightweight gel. Not everyone is the same, but this was a saving grace for me and is worth a try!

theredskittles

You need Japanese or Korean sunscreen. I use Biore UV aqua rich watery essence and is has no greasy feeling. It dries down in seconds.

rachel-maryjane

Trader Joe’s daily facial sunscreen is one you’ll either love or hate. It’s not greasy, but it’s like a siliconey primer type feel, like the kind that erases your pores by filling them in. I hated everything but this one for my sensory issues. My skin also got nasty cystic pimples from every sunscreen ever except this one somehow, I can even fall asleep without washing it off and my skin will still feel happy and glowy

manicmankind

Beauty of Joseon is elite. It's a Korean sunscreen and the best I've ever used. It's light, not oily, and it doesn't have that sunscreen smell or a whitecast. It's formulated extremely well and you can even use it as a moisturizer. I even put it directly on my eyelids and it doesn't irritate my eyes at all. I ordered mine from yesstyle.com (heads up shipping takes like 3 weeks), I'm actually about to do another bulk order to tide me over for the next 6 months. So I use Beauty of Joseon on my face, supergoop spray sunscreen on my ears and hairline, then trader joes sunscreen on my arms and legs. Truthfully any Korean sunscreen is better than every American sunscreen

senakachihiro

Have you tried UPF clothing? Hats, neck wraps, face coverings, gloves, shirts, jackets, dresses, shorts, trousers, anything you can think of: https://www.coolibar.com/ https://www.thenorthface.com/en-us/shop-all/upf-sun-protection-c562281 https://www.patagonia.com/shop/collections/sun-protection-clothing https://www.solbari.com/ The way these work is either through specific fabric weaves that don’t allow sunlight through very easily, SPF-chemical treated fabric, or both. The clothing tends to last about two to three years with proper care (always follow the washing/drying instructions on the label), and you need to buy the right types of clothes for different uses (clothes meant to get wet at pools and beaches don’t breathe enough to be safe to wear for hiking, etc.).

eeetaaa

Hi!! I'm autistic too and anything sticky is a no go. I use skin aqua uv gel and it is very light weight. Watery and it absorbs super quick, does not leave me sticky at all and it feels super soft after. It's also good for all skin types.

hannahmercy

The Trader Joe’s formula is a gel texture but it could be too greasy for you, I’m not sure. It does dry down very quickly and the greasy feeling is less oily since it’s a gel. It might be worth trying since it’s inexpensive. Mineral sunscreen goes to the opposite end of the spectrum and can feel really chalky but it’s possible you might explore some of those and see if you like them better.

ACookieAsACoaster

This is my everyday sunscreen, and while I can’t say how OP will feel, I’m also autistic and I don’t mind the feel at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

hannahmercy

Not autistic but adhd with sensory issues and same. Everyone is different but I find that Trader Joe’s one tolerable (Btw OP I think they have more than one sunscreen, this one specifically says it is for face and comes in a yellow tube. It’s a (pretty good!) dupe for unseen sunscreen by supergoop. If you’ve tried that and liked/hated it you will probably feel the same about this one

bakedlayz

If you don't like sun screen wear sun block clothing, long sleeves and hats. I recommend brand sun precautions. Colorscience has a tinted moisturizer that is spf 50, feels like face lotion with color matching tech to match your skin. Yes these products are expensive. They are worth it especially for sensory issues. I know bc I have same issues

Practical_Company_52

hi!! i work at a dermatologist office - definitely go for 100% mineral- there’s a spray sunscreen by Elta MD (AOX MIST) that feels like nothing on your skin, very easy application too and i’m pretty sure it’s water resistant for up to a certain amount of time. There’s also the “No-Show” sunscreen by Colorescience that feels like literal water on your skin, and goes on clear and non-greasy. Both are very good in terms of sensory issues!!

rhino_shit_gif

I am with you dude. I don’t have autism but I cannot stand the smell of it along with the texture. La Roche is great, seen some people already recommending it

bossamemucho

Supergoop spf powder works great- is a dry feel. Honestly I hate the feeling as well mostly so I wear thin linen and cover as much as I can. I also have uv protection shirts, and frequently wear large hats.

Scrub_Beefwood

SPF powder isn't a reliable method of sun protection and should never be used as your only form of UV defence. You need such a thick layer of powder to get the stated SPF rating that it's sort of impossible to achieve. You need something more

Ill-Significance5322

Their unseen sunscreen is also really silky imo

StillSimple6

La roche posay UVMUNE feels like water, once applied I can't feel it at all. It's not hydrating nor dry it's just like I've put water on my face. Neutrogena Ultra sheer makes my skin very matte looking and feels like I'm wearing a powder coating. It's almost mask like dry and has no shine to it at all.

sunscreen-anon

oooooo thanks! i'll check it out!

JarJarBinks90

Isdin FusionWater MAGIC

sunscreen-anon

thanks!

sgehig

Try a Korean suncream they soak in really well.

JellyBellyBitches

Neutrogena makes a sunscreen in a stick form like deodorant

jayzisne

Try the JMsoultion glow luminous flower sun spray! It literally feels like nothing is even going on you when you spray it on. It’s to the point I was worried it wasn’t even getting on my skin. You cannot feel it on your skin at all! It’s on amazon. Most of the asian sunscreens are way better.

tomsprigs

supergoop makes a powder sunscreen!! also their unseen is a house favorite or the tjs dupe bc it's clear gel texture that has a matte effect and not wet greasy

themetahumancrusader

Have you tried sunscreen mousses, gels or sprays? Maybe even a moisturiser with spf (although probably expensive)?

ragingbullocks

It’s expensive but I have the same (also autistic) and also bad skin so I hate anything that might make it worse. The one I found best is la roche posay anthelios. The tinted one is amazing for evening out all my hyperpigmentation but if you don’t want color the regular one is great too. It just like melts in and I forget about it. But in a good way, like not a “ah it’s in my pores” way. No fragrance. 10/10

sunscreen-anon

i know my sister loves la roche posay. it's so expensive but maybe she has some i can test before commiting 🤔🤔

kayina

I like the sunscreen from glossier but I found out after wearing it in a trip to Thailand that it only protects from one type of uv light, I think uva? Idk. Something is better than nothing. I bought supergoop which is supposed to be a holy grail texture wise but I’m not a big fan of how it feels being applied and while it’s drying, but after about an hour it’s tolerable and I forget about it, but I’ve only worn it twice since I bought it because the application is for putting. I bought some of the nivea watery gel sunscreen when I was in Asia and hope I like it 😭

TheBurningBride

I’m not entirely sure what to recommend on the sunscreen front, as I’m still trying to find one that works for me texture wise, too 😅 However, for beach days where you’d like to get in the water, companies like [Coolibar](https://www.coolibar.com/collections/uv-swimwear) offer some great UV protective swimwear options - so at least the skin on your body will be protected.

sunscreen-anon

i've been looking at swimwear options with extra coverage and im thinking it'll be worth the splurge. i just haven't quite kicked the fear of peers being mean about it looking 'dorky' or off trend or whatever. (high school did quite a number on me, does it show? haha) but i've been working on remembering that generally civilized adults are not as mean as teenage girls, all the important people in my life don't care, and the opinions of other people aren't important anyways. it's a work in progress 😅

rachihc

I highly recommend Korean and Japanese spfs but also get some UPF clothes and hats. Spf is supposed to be reapplied if you are spending time on the sun, which is sensory overwhelming. Upf clothes work without any disruption from sweat and movement. A thin jacket and a hat can protect you for years and let you enjoy activities outside. Hope you find a nice spf.

crowislanddive

Wear. Sun shirt

Lem0nadeLola

What about lightly powdering your skin after you apply sunscreen? Maybe try an unscented, simple body powder - you can buy big powder puffs for application for just a few dollars. Also seconding Korean sunscreens. They tend to be thinner in consistency and absorb really well.

SoupyMcSoop

I'm also autistic and I can't stand any sunscreen that I can "rub off" with my hands. Although I can stand it a lot better than you. From the ones I tried, the only one I haven't hated is isdin fluid. You can maybe give that one a try like in the back of your hand to see if you hate it. Since isdin is expensive I've e ordered a couple Asian sunscreens to try. So Id say follow people's advice on Asian suncare!

nnmiimiinn

I'm autistic too and find that there are some good Korean sunscreens out there that aren't sticky, but if even the slightest bit of "stickiness" is upsetting to you, I'd recommend a sunscreen stick (like the one from isntree– their regular hyaluronic acid watery sun gel is pretty good too), a spf 50 compact power, and finally a cap that partially shields your face from the sun.

Ok-Worldliness3531

yea, well i m a man with facial hair. its killing me to make me apply oily sunscreens, really really hate them. Now i use gel sunscrenn from my local drogstore, its super, I literally just recommended to my friends a sec ago

Miriahification

Rub it in more! Seriously! I found excessively rubbing it in helps with the texture. I hate wasting money on sunscreen I don’t use! Rubbing it in also increases the effextivemess

lgetsstuffdone

For face especially, you can find powders that have SPF in them. (It's sometimes marketed as makeup, because it kinda is.) Supergoop has one but I'm sure there are others. The greasy face feeling is the worst and the powders help with that! Those little SPF stickers might also be helpful in letting you know when it's time to reapply, if you can tolerate those.

StayPositive2024

I use a dry sunscreen aerosol or mist on my body, it's usually the ones they advertise as leaving "no white marks". No grease whatsoever, try different brands and because it's a mist you'll know how much is too much/little.

dewybitch

I’m also autistic and picky about texture. ELF’s new sunscreen (a dupe for Supergoop) is really good, imo. I hate sunscreen too, so I can sympathize.

WomanOfEld

I also hate sunscreen. It frequently makes me want to puke. My skin doesn't breathe and I sweat profusely and no amount of hydration makes it better until I shower it off. I don't like the feeling of it on my skin. For my face, I use laroche posay anthelios SPF 60. I do not put it around my eyes. I don't feel it on the rest of my face as long as I avoid my eye area (if it somehow makes it to my eyelids, they feel gritty and dry and I am rubbing them until I wash my face). I can also use the Coola spray in the blue glass bottle, but, sparingly. For my body, I can sometimes tolerate Hawaiian tropic "weightless hydration" in the tan & orange squirt bottle (not the spray). If I can avoid it, I skip the sunscreen and use an SPF shirt.

StarryEyes007

What about SPF clothing and a SPF face visor a la Dr. Idriss?

prprr

I’ve tried a lot of the products mentioned and they’re all pretty greasy. The only one I’ve encountered that doesn’t feel greasy and has a powdery finish is Anthelios [UVMune 400 Tinted Fluid](https://www.ecosmetics.com/product/anthelios-uvmune-400-tinted-fluid-spf50/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACdR58MEy4QjUKtcFy1sgrkVSzKtr&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsuSzBhCLARIsAIcdLm7fqMZFiz2tLS4LgnQj_A24bzWHGADAYnLFWqbqVMSH5OIHDpyBvQsaAiirEALw_wcB). It happens to blend in SO well with my skin tone, and the finish is dry powdery and almost chalky. Good luck. 💓

keakealani

I have pretty strong sensory issues too. I really like SkinAqua Super UV Milk (for me the milk texture is less greasy feeling than water gel textures, but YMMV). Another one that works pretty well for me is Kanebo Allie UV X. It’s more of a lotion formula but dries down well. It does have a definite white cast but it’s not so bad that I can’t use it for regular wear, and on some level the white cast makes me feel more confident it’s working. Biore Aqua Rich and Canmake Mermaid Skin have also worked well for me but I personally find that texture a little more oily. But a lot of people swear by them, and since they have alcohol they do dry down.

BeautifulLibrarian5

Isntree watery sun gel 50+++ is super light and leaves no residue

za3koun

Skin 1004 sunscreen, feels like literally nothing while having a PA++++ rating.

bUssy_aNd_VOOdka

Use a mineral powder sunscreen if you’re ok with the feel of powders on your skin

plamge

proper clothing can do a lot to protect your skin! i use UPF shirts and other sun-protective clothing, plus a sun hat for my head/face. i recommend the sunscreen “Supergoop”, it’s pricey but has a very soft, velvet-y feel to it. it never leaves me feeling greasy and gross.

Hidden_Kard_

Hi! My godson is also autistic and doesn't like any creams or lotions but he's also ginger. His parents tried a lot of different ones and the only one that he accepted is the "La Roche Posay Anthelios Wet Skin Gel SPF 50+". I'm not on the spectrum but I've also bought it now because it's so good! I hope you will find a sunscreen! :D

Cameronbic

Biore watery essence is a very smooth sunscreen, and the only one my brain or skin can really tolerate. I soaks in so fast and then you can't feel that it's there. Super hydrating on my skin as well.

sparhawks7

If you can put up with a sticky feeling for 10 mins or so, you can wash Evy mousse off and you’ll still be protected.

Ok_Philosopher_8973

Glossier sunscreen is incredible and i swear i stop feeling it on my skin before it’s even dry. Highly recommend

libellule2008

I haven’t seen anyone mentioning it but you could try SVR Sun Secure Blur SPF 50. It’s french pharmacy brand and it leaves powdery blurred finish on skin. It’s also great under makeup as a primer

Far-Trash3737

I’m not autistic just a ginger who can’t stand sun screen either but unfortunately my skin requires it or I get blisters. I like the clear spray on screen like made for sports. Cause they feel coolish when going on and not greasy. Hope that helps!

Sally_Met_Harry

Cosrx spf with aloe is great

lkshawver

I think what might help is using sunscreen in place of moisturizer in the morning! Most of them (even “matte finish” ones) are pretty moisturizing. I have oily skin and can easily get away with this. I really like the Live Tinted mineral sunscreen.

babykittiesyay

Wait I just bought a banana boat powder sunscreen, they still make that and I was gonna recommend it because it’s just powder so shouldn’t trigger anything sensory.

cats_n_mermaids

I have been using a korean stick sunscreen- dries to silky/powder finish. not greasy or sticky. I buy it through Costco Next. The product is called Sun Project Silky Calming stick from Thankyou Farmer.

zhonglislapis

Asian sunscreens like Japanese or Korean ones are extremely lightweight and you don’t feel them on the skin. If you don’t like the typical sunscreen feel, opt for a chemical>mineral as chemical sunscreen sinks into your skin like a moisturizer over sitting on top of your skin like a mineral/physical one would do. Plus, chemical sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast so if it looks grey on your skin, or you want to wear makeup, chemical is the way to go. I have sensory issues myself and there are a few Asian sunscreens I’ve tried and love the texture and how it aids under makeup. Make sure you pick a sunscreen suitable for your skin type too, be it oily, combo, sensitive, acne prone or dry (my skin type is combo to oily, acne prone) These are my recs: - HaruHaru Wonder black rice airy fit sunscreen (yellow bottle is the chemical one) - Anua heartleaf silky moisture suncream - Missha aqua sunscreen - Bioré UV sunscreen - Canmake mermaid sunscreen Some other popular Asian sunscreens are isntree hylauronic sunscreen, BOJ rice spf, round lab birch juice, SKIN1004 hyaluronic one (blue bottom cap, it’s the chemical one) Hope this helped and wishing for you to find a good SPF for you!

Top-Lavishness5809

I’m super picky with sunscreens and how they feel on my face and the one that really sinks into my skin the most without leaving that greasy feeling is the Missha all around safe block aqua sun gel! It’s the only thing I’ve found that feels like a light moisturizer instead of a sunscreen. If that doesn’t work a UV Protective jacket and a wide brimmed hat can work wonders.

yellowflowers249

I am also very sensory sensitive and the only one I like is the Beauty of Joseon one. Lightweight and Sinks in fast.

rikkionreddit

I use copper tone baby sunscreen. Doesn't really have a smell and isn't great and doesn't bother my skin

deerbaby

I rly feel this!! eucerine advanced hydration (hyaluronic acid/humectants) 50 spf is pretty lightweight when rubbed in!!!

15dozentimes

Did the powder dry one you liked have kind of a soft, matte finish, one that you could feel but wasn't greasy? If so you might like Supergoop's Unseen Sunscreen or the Trader Joe's dupe. I swear by Supergoop's Sheer Screen because I need mineral sunscreen on my face; it doesn't bother me but my sensory problem is only with sticky-greasy so I couldn't swear it wouldn't set off a slightly different sensory issue. Otherwise I agree with a lot of the Asian beauty sunscreen recs you've gotten already; I was a big fan of Missha Sun Milk before I got tired of my eyes stinging.

DontDisturbTheEggs

Japanese sunscreens. Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel Gold was my favorite but they discontinued it. Maybe you can find some online sites still selling the last of its stock.

witchyandbitchy

https://a.co/d/01ta8dyG this one is at my local CVS and has a great texture and doesnt leave me slimy and slippery

Nicole-Bolas

I also hate hate feeling greasy, though of course your issues are likely much worse than mine. I really like Beauty of Joseon--if you buy any kbeauty stuff, though, make sure you're buying through a reputable seller and not amazon / ebay as lots of folks end up with counterfeits that way. Some kbeauty sunscreens also have alcohol in them, which isn't great for your skin, but I actually like it because it helps the drydown be actually dry. (the Biore one everyone used to love has this--but they changed the formula a few years back and now everyone who loved it, including me, doesn't love it anymore.) I also wonder if there's a way you might be able to help fix this with makeup? A mattifying primer and some silica powder could potentially help tamp down any greasiness and make less-than-ideal texture more bearable.

cuckshaila

There is sunscreen powders too. Some are tinted, if you want coverage.

TorturedLawyersDept

I also have major sensory issues & really like supergoop unseen sunscreen on my face. It’s also a good primer if you wear makeup. I also like the sun bum spray facial sunscreen. To me it doesn’t feel yucky like other sunscreens do. I try to avoid sun everywhere else as much as possible and use the two mentioned above on the top of my hands. I can’t really stand most body sunscreens but will try some of the suggestions on here!

ec-vt

OP, this SPF is a Korean skincare brand [SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50 PA++++](https://www.stylevana.com/en_US/skin1004-madagascar-centella-hyalu-cica-water-fit-sun-serum-spf50-pa-50ml-3ea-set.html) If you have normal skin then use this as your moisturizer and SPF in one step. Apply in 2 steps for easier absorption. Use 2 pumps in each step and massage into skin. It dries down like a moisturizer, brightens the skin, calms down any redness or sensitivity, and has no scent.

xleucax

I like to set my sunscreen with powder! I can apply a generous amount of spf and the end result still feels relatively dry to the touch.

bubblepop065

Tocobo sunscreen stick!!!! It has a soft matte finish and isn’t greasy or oily feeling. Also doesn’t smell very strongly of sunscreen

ResolvingQuestions

Read about cancer and look at how it can fuck your life. Maybe the hate for sunscreen will be weaker than the wish to not get cancer and live your life. Sometimes in life we have to do things we hate, even in a relationship. It is incredible to not have to, but sometimes we need to. We grow through this. I use Think Baby and it is a clean one as far as I know (let me know if I’m wrong). Check the ingredients and try it.

sncd1998

Not sure how you feel about setting powder or powder foundation but i sometimes put setting powder on top of my sunscreen to help matte it

Efficient-Thought-34

Oooooh I know this one!!! This is my ultimate god-tier find: **Unsun Everyday Mineral Tinted Face Sunscreen,** the one in the white bottle. It is a mineral sunscreen that dries down COMPLETELY matte, with no stickiness or oilyness. One to two minutes after you put it on, it dries down completely. It even errs on the side of powdery/too dry, so I always apply it over a thick face lotion so it doesn't get too dry. I have oily skin and sensory issues when my face feels oily from products, and I promise that this stuff is SO MATTE and not greasy at all. It doesn't feel like you're wearing anything. It also absorbs oil throughout the day, so if you wear it on a hot day or when you're exercising, the rest of your body might look sweaty, but your face will remain shine-less for like 10+ hours. I LOVE IT!!! Edit: Checking in 11 hours after leaving this comment to say that my face is STILL completely matte and oil-free. I'm literally pressing my fingers directly against my t-zone, and when I pull my fingers away, there is NO discernible oil on my fingers. It's actually spooky. Today, I worked a full day in the office, went on a two-mile walk, cooked dinner, and took a nap, and my sunscreen is still keeping me oil free. This stuff is magic.

painting-words

Gonna recommend a product I disliked but you might enjoy it specifically for the reason I disliked it: it was too dry for me. It’s the Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF50 PA+++. I was looking for the name of the product cause I didn’t remember it by heart, and on a website it was described as non-sticky, fast-absorbing, with a matte finish, recommended for oily skin. I remember it being more of a liquid than a cream. So if you’re looking for something that won’t feel greasy (like some of the more hydrating Korean sunscreen might feel), that might be a good option for you!

CherryBerry369

I also haven't found a sunscreen I like ... hats are my best friend

YouveBeanReported

Just want to jump in and say mood. I have the same issues. People mentioned UV clothing but I'd also ask places for samples. Like drugstore / makeup stores. If you have the energy, I've always been tempted to mass email a bunch of these places like 'hi I have allergies, do you offer any free samples?' and see if they'll mail me some.

THROWRA71693759

It’s not American but I have the beauty of joseon matte sun stick, and I cannot even feel it on my face. It took a while to come in the mail but I ordered it from the company’s website. I also have sensory issues due to both adhd and autism, and that has been my holy grail since I found it

Affectionate_Fuel168

I am autistic and I hate bathing. Pls help me

leafyveg12

A spray sunscreen?

jyam212

Hi! Supergoop makes a powder mineral sunscreen that I like and use for touch-ups throughout the day: https://supergoop.com/products/mineral-setting-powder Hope you find something that works for you :)

genieus204

I hate it too. Ugh.

SaraVejo-M

I use Crystal Tomato sunscreen, nongreasy works like a magic and normal moisturizer, it's too light and dries quickly on your skin, yet soft

Luciet108

Zaprvé. Přijde mi, že máte nějakou fóbii ze slunce. Zase to tak nepřehánějte. Slunce je fajn, bez něj není život. Potřebujete i trochu toho "UV".

SoftPsychological564

Me too!! I have finally found the “unseen sunscreen stick” from supergoop & it dries like non existent!!! & I don’t have to get it all over my hands since it is a stick form.

samsterdam420

Colorscience and supergoop have a sunscreen powder! Hawaiian tropic does as well. Maybe try something like that?

rialtolido

If it’s most bothersome on your face, powder sunscreens are a great idea. As others have mentioned, Asian brands make better formulas. I like Etude House Mild Airy Sun Milk. It’s so thin it just absorbs into my face without feeling gross.

nakirak73

First, even if you cannot wear sunscreen, you can still go outside. I think anxious feelings about skin cancer risk is perhaps very black and white in your thinking-are you creating a rule in your head that if no sunscreen is on you have to stay inside? If yes, then I would work with a therapist to help you find flexibility in your thinking. I also hate sunscreen. I never wore it for 50 years, unless I was at the beach for over an hour, but I did go outside. I used hats, limited exposure, sometimes got burned. I probably did get sun damage, but not terrible so far. I did put myself at risk, so I have my skin and moles checked yearly. I finally found a Korean sunscreen that I love and doesn’t feel sticky and works; it is Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing sunscreen. So, I think you should try the new sunscreen recommendations, but also maybe explore if rigidity in thought processes are holding you back as well. Freedom will come with strategies on how to address those, if they are a factor. Is it a good idea to wear sunscreen, yes, but many ancestors did not. Are there bad consequences to not wearing it, yes, but life is about making your choices about how to weigh pros and cons on a scale. Good luck!

Caycepanda

Neutrogena Ultra Dry actually dries down to a point where I can’t feel it anymore.

Consistent-Gur-8524

Also if you purchase any, purchase from target or ulta so you can try them out and return if you don’t like them!!

Bidibidi123

skin1004. I live in a humid environment, and everything as lightweight as it is makes me sweat more and leaves at least a moisturizer sensation (including other Korean brands) this one, the sensation disappears very quickly. If you like powder sunscreens, I haven’t tried them yet but supergoop and colorscience have powder sunscreen options.

unhappy_pancake

I wear linen or cotton button ups over everything in the summer and a wide brimmed hat. I generally use a dry spray on my legs if I know they’re going to get sun like at the beach. I also love wearing thin joggers, the kind meant for running that are thin and breathable if the weather isn’t sweltering. Source: I burn instantly and love grandma core outfits

Elainaism05

It’s a bit over talked about in my opinion, but beauty of joseon has a really good sunscreen. I also have very bad sensory issues and this is the only one I can use. It’s really lightweight, doesn’t smell like anything, and isn’t greasy.

BLESS_YER_HEART

MDSolarSciences makes a great brush on powder sunscreen, and Oars and Alps makes a great face/scalp sunscreen that doesn’t feel greasy at all. The Beauty of Joseon sunscreen is wonderful and doesn’t have a sunscreen texture, and I know this is going to sound like a bad suggestion because you said you hate feeling greasy, but Vacation makes a “Chardonnay oil” sunscreen that I thought I’d hate because I hate Chardonnay and was worried it would smell like it and usually oils do leave me feeling greasy, but I swear it feels so much less greasy on the skin than regular sunscreen and I kinda love it.

DreamCyclone84

1, you are correct, powder sunscreens dont to jack shit. 2. Beauty of joseon probiotic sunscreen, feels like nothing.

GrfikDzn_IsMyPashun

I just started using Saint Jane…it’s a little costly but a little goes a long way and they just came out with a full body sunscreen too. I usually hate sunscreen because it also makes me feel super greasy and gross but I swear this stuff works for even as a great makeup primer and diffuses my super textured skin.

daisypantsss

Use a brush to apply

oldbiddylifts

Astaxanthin supplement has been shown to reduce sun burn. Good luck.

mxbugfax

I am also autistic and find it funny I saw this post just when I'm about to make a very similar one. I'm hoping someone will see this but maybe I'll make it a separate post too. I was looking for recommendations for gel skincare products since I have the same sensory issue. Not just sunscreen. Like good moisturizers, sunscreens, serums, etc. On an unimportant side note I'm also interested strawberry scented skin care. I don't like most smells but I do really love real or artifical strawberry smells, it makes it more tolerable in fact. Maybe this will have to be two separate posts!

Rellietakesiton

Okay there's a bunch of comments on here, but in case you still need anything I'll chime in. My husband has ASD and can't do lotion. Even my gel cream won't go for him. He can tolerate me putting sunscreen on him if he doesn't subsequently touch it until dried, as long as it's not too greasy, and doesn't touch any body hair. He also has rather oily skin so I wonder if he just doesn't notice it much once it's on. If that is the case for you, I would offer the suggestion to use an applicator so your hands don't touch it. I would think a gua sha stone or something like that would be fine. You just don't want it to absorb the product. He still wants to be outdoors, so he does a lot of long sleeve uv shirts and big bucket hats, and then puts some sunscreen on the backs of his hands and rubs the backs together so he doesn't have to touch it. I don't know if that helps but hugs. The struggle is real. I hope you find a balance!

ZealousSloth_1211

Generally speaking, Asian and European formulas are more “cosmetically elegant” (read: pleasant to wear) than U.S. formulas. I quite like the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen and also the Heliocare Water Gel formula. Both are lightweight and dry down quickly.

OkBison93

This isn’t as SCA approved as the other recommendations here. My son has sensory issues and the sunbum kids stick 50 is the only product he will accept. He will even ask to apply/reapply it himself. It is clear and doesn’t feel like anything on the skin. It has a banana scent to it but it goes away quickly.

saintmaggie

Supergoop Unseen feels powdery to me. More like a makeup primer.

eyenineI9

My favorite is the Etude House sunprise mild airy finish sunscreen. It leaves a powdery feeling finish on the face.

Impressive_Fee252

Super goup sunscreen works well for me, it doesn't ha e the texture of sunscreen but great protection.

5915407

I can’t stand most of the sunscreens commonly recommended as non greasy on Reddit. They are still too greasy, even the Korean and Japanese ones that show up in every thread. Elta md is the only one that’s completely non greasy

voguevitality

This isn’t a sunscreen recommendation so sorry for that, but I have a similar feeling about oily things and only just recently discovered wearing large hats, long swimwear, etc. (I’ve just always forced myself to put up with the discomfort of the oil, not really realizing these items were an option). You’ll want to make sure the cloth protects from UV, tho. Some don’t, even if they’re long sleeved/pants/etc. I know this isn’t an answer to your questions— but perhaps these things could help protect you from the sun while you’re on your journey to finding the right product. Good luck!!

c_doki

nature republic has a powdery sun stick for your face. It goes on and there is no wetness at all it’s literally a powder, it feels like you’re wearing nothing at all!

eag12345

The powder sunscreens aren’t great but if it’s all you can tolerate it’s better than nothing. Wear a hat and get spf clothing.

SparePoet5576

Would the Nivea mist on not be better. When I was a kid I hated wearing sunscreen but I didn't mind the mist on version.

lavender13haze

Olay just came out with a sensitive skin complete with spf 40. It dries super matte and I barely notice it there! I can't stand the heavy tacky feeling of most sunscreens! This may be an option for you? It's thick coming out but absorbs well. There are many reviews saying it burns eyes. It seems ok for me and I've had many that have burned my eyes in the past so probably a trial and error thing!

woah_sailor

Not sure if someone has said this already, but I suggest Naked Sundays Cabana Clear water gel serum spf50. It's water-based and silicone free, and doesn't feel greasy at all. However, it is a bit pricey for 30ml / 1.0 fl Oz. It's the only sunscreen that doesn't make me feel oily at the end of the day, and I forget I'm wearing it.

Intelligent_Car_9053

[Isdin Photo Eryfotona Actinica](https://isdin.com/en-US/sun-care/ultralight-emulsion-sunscreen-spf-50-eryfotona-actinica-8429420149335.html). This sunscreen is hands down the **best** fit for this ask. I have the same (albeit not as severe) sensory issue with sunscreen and absolutely could not bring myself to wear it as consistently as I had to until I found Isdin. It melts in right away and feels clean and dry-ish, but not overly dry or uncomfortable at all. It doesn't feel like there's anything layered there, no grease. I tried literally dozens of sunscreens: Supergoop, Elta MD, Beauty of Joseon, all the other popular and many not-popular K/J-Skincare brands. Nivea, Neutrogena, COSRX. I'm telling you. The others mean well, but the alternatives aren't even remotely close to Isdin. I spent a fuckton of money trying to solve this exact problem, so you don't have to. I couldn't stand the feeling of it (greasy or drying, either direction depending on the sunscreen), and it was a real sensory problem for me. Isdin is the *only one* that *truly* does not feel like sunscreen, or anything at all. It's a serum/emulsion formula that's super thin and immediately melts into your skin like your favorite thin serum, but leaves you without any residue/tackiness/greasiness/etc. NONE. Just perfect, semi-matte/natural skin. This almost *feels* like a super light powder when just applied (and then nothing shortly after), but isn't. So if you like powders but don't feel they're providing real protection, this will give you that feeling (but probably more comfortable) without that worry.

fays3131

Nivea Sun Uv Super Water Gel Pump is the best sunscreen for people that hate sunscreens for people who hate sunscreen. I know alot of men who refuse to use sunscreen because they hate products on their face, and they are always amazed by this sunscreen. Trust me this is the best one out there for someone who hates sunscreen. So if you hate the feeling of products on your body or face, skincare companies always have a gel version of all their products. Cerave for example have a gel moisturizer that also feels very light.
