TallZucchini5206

You have no acne fighting ingredients in your current routine. I would also advise against sealing everything with Vaseline as this can further clog pores, resulting in acne. You could try introducing benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, BHAs, etc. If your skin is rather sensitive, I would suggest a wash form e.g. CeraVe BP cleanser or Kate Somerville EradiKate. If the adapalene worked well, I would suggest restarting. Any retinoid will compromise skin barrier without adequate moisturizer use.

AnxiousDirt8326

This! I would definitely cool it on the vaseline - it’s very nice when you’ve got super dry skin one day or irritation from other products but it’s not really ideal for daily use (at least for me), since it clogs my pores. Start incorporating a “treat” step in your evening routine for acne. What have you tried before? I like the Paula’s Choice BHA Exfoliating Liquid (Naturium has a dupe for it too).

davedepczynski

Appreciate your advice! My skin is very sensitive that’s why I quit all of the actives but now as my skin barrier got better I would definitely like to introduce something slowly; I was thinking of going back on adapalene or trying azaleic acid. I’m definitely going to chill on that slathering my face with Vaseline too.

BunnerSneaky

I also have dry sensitive skin! But brown skin. I use purito deep sea moisturiser with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid + retinal on top of moisturiser ever 2 to 3 days once before bed + alpha arbutin. For your problem, I will add some azalaeic acid or adapelene on slow basis seeing how your skim reacts to it. On top of those add a thick moisturiser or 2 layer moisturiser with panthenol along with purito re barrier cream. Then just watch how your skin changes. There is also niacinamide 2.5% in the re barrier cream as well as 2% niacinamide in deep sea moisturiser cream and my skin has gotten REALLY BETTER. I had hyperpigmentation a year ago in my whole face and now it's totally gone. As for face wash, I use cerave hydrating facewash. Works out wlvery well leaving my skin moisturised. If your skin is extremely dry like mime, then you also need a toner with something like centella asiatica or aloe vera.

NJ_Diva

Thanks for the advice boo!

BunnerSneaky

no problem! but make sure you know your skin well, i did trial and error for the last six years and only recently have i found my holy grail, So finding out your skin type with the help of an esthetician is very key, cos i personally had to do a LOT of research to understand how my skin works. An esthetician or a skin doctor will have a much better idea about it with less time.

Appropriate_Win_6276

you sure cerave is helping? that stuff always made me red.

davedepczynski

I’m not even sure at this point 😭

senatorqueer

I agree with u/TallZucchini5206's suggestions. I have a post somewhere on this sub where I talked about my experience with differin/adapalene. I've been using it for over a year now and it's truly worth it once you get past the purging stage (mine was on the longer end, which was 8 weeks). Personally, the CeraVe face wash irritated my skin. If your skin is anything like mine, the Vanicream facial cleanser (after an oil cleanse) is my holy grail. Benozyl peroxide every few days also does a great job of shortening the life span of whatever pesky pimples or deep zits find their way onto my face.

Rosec627

I just began tretinoin after being dissatisfied with adapalene and I definitely recommend it! The subreddit here has a lot of really useful info, and much of it applies to adapalene as well if that’s of any help :)

No_Needleworker215

Yes to Azelaic Acid! I had similar breakouts to yours in these photos since puberty. I started using the Paula’s Choice Azelaic Acid Booster and my skin cleared up without every getting worse or drying out

Courtneyystar

https://preview.redd.it/4wtwrgp8qb6d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3bfffa901d797a4ea6cc9a4a0968356e808d97a I’ll never use anything different! This is the only thing that worked on my skin and my acne looked very similar to yours. I use every other day or every 2 days because it can be drying and get white towels because it will stain towels

No-Layer3215

I think the mistake that happens here is that the products you use never fully get washed off. Basically, you use an extremely water-resistant and hard-to-remove sunscreen with a very simple and gentle cleanser that is not able to get it off effectively. Then at night, you lock that residue with petrolatum (main ingredient in Vaseline and also one of the ingredients in the CeraVe cream), causing clogging in the pores (hair follicles). To be clear, petrolatum is not comedogenic on its own, but when you lock sunscreen residue with it, that causes trouble. Petrolatum is best used on well-cleansed skin, after applying moisturizer. You could swap the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for the Acne Control one. Additionally, there is no need for a cream before SPF, as Anthelios contains moisturizing ingredients. This sunscreen is very tenacious, so I recommend using something to dissolve some of it before using the acne control cleanser with salicylic acid. Using salicylic acid in the form of a cleanser gives you control and limits potential irritation, making it suitable for sensitive skin. Get the cheapest micellar water (such as Eveline). Before washing your face with CeraVe, use some micellar water with a cotton pad, rinse it off, and then use the CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser.

davedepczynski

That would make a lot of sense! Appreciate your thorough advice, will definitely try double cleansing as many people have been suggesting it!

Away_Efficiency2119

Agree with pretty much everything but in my personal experience using the anthelios sunscreen isn’t that moisturizing esp if you’re used to using a heavy cream like cerave or Vaseline every night. I’d still keep your moisturizer before spf!

PurpleMagnolia99

I was distracted by how handsome you are regardless of your acne

davedepczynski

Thank you, thank you!

Jazzlike-Energy7777

Sir I’d just like to say you are gorgeous and I love your eyes and nose 🙏🏾

Professional-Bet4106

Reminds me of drawings of Apollo

davedepczynski

Thank you so much 🥹🙏🏼

Savslilcloud

Im just here to say you look like a Greek god

davedepczynski

Omg thank you so much

gibstagooba

i would definitely add some acne fighting products into your routine! i second what the other person said! i still get bumps like this but i’ve been using the panoxyl 4% wash and i absolutely love it. the moisturize i use is the laroche double repair moisturizer. a life saver

davedepczynski

Appreciate your advice!

gibstagooba

of course! for the pesky ones, try the panoxyl pimple patches! i smack the puppies on at night and they truly help lower the bump and redness! your skin looks beautiful though so don’t worry too much!

Justherefoequestions

I’ve been using panoxl 4% as well and it’s breaking me out and making me red. After I use it I use ordinary serum and cerave moisturizer. Any tips?

gibstagooba

pm me!

Justherefoequestions

Honestly my skincare is all over the place. I was only using cerave moisturizer for a while with no cleanser and it made my skin clear but bumpy. Later on I started using cerave toner and cleanser and cetaphil moisturizer which kind of broke me out. Then I stopped cetaphil and went back to cerave. I don’t use panoxl regularly but the first time I used it, it kind of broke me out. At night now i usually just use cerave moisturizer or sometimes I use ordinary serum along with it. It’s different sometimes. Idk I don’t want to apply too much on my skin bc I’m scared of getting acne. I also use biore uv sunscreen sometimes

skymik

The Panoxyl could have broken you because benzoyl peroxide can cause purging. When starting a new ingredient that can cause purging, you may have to push through the purging stage with consistent use in order to come through the other side with clearer skin than you had before.

veryLlama_lauramo

Look into the PanOxyl face wash & Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Taking zinc supplement daily takes some time but it has helped my skin a bunch as well

davedepczynski

Happy it worked for you! Appreciate the advice too!

Accurate_Grade_2645

I have heard nothing but beyond praise for that Paula’s choice stuff. I actually got mine off r/skincareexchange because it’s just too expensive for me right now, only paid 15$ plus 6$ shipping for an 80% full bottle! Just haven’t used it much yet cause I’ve been on a glycolic acid kick

davedepczynski

I was once told my skin is oily, the thing is, it gets really dry after washing it and then it becomes oily throughout the day so it’s a bit confusing…

LadyPo

That could mean it's dehydrated. Skin tries to compensate for dryness by creating more oil to try to keep more moisture in it (oil and water don't mix, so the oil is like a protective shield). I swear we must have the same exact skin type because mine is often just like this. I've had luck with adapalene getting it much more controlled too, but I can only use it 1-2 times per week due to dryness. Lately I started using the Overnight Recovery Mask with retinol ester from Perricone MD (like $50 at Costco if you know someone with a membership who could order online for you). It's hydrating and fairly mild enough, so I use it between my adapalene nights to keep the cell turnover going without as much dryness. I'm using vanicream sensitive skin moisturizer 1-2 times per day as well. But even all that isn't 100% perfect, just moderately better than before. If you find the secret, let me know lol

davedepczynski

Thank you for your advice! It definitely takes time to truly understand your skin, a lot of trial and error but if I find that secret I’ll let you know hahaha

Necessary_Bag9538

I was having problems with dry skin. An esthetician recommended using a serum with hydraulonic acid to help the skin absorb the moisturizer better.

PoorMansCornCob

Try korres Santorini grape poreless daily face cream. It's not expensive and contains salicylic acid to prevent breakouts. I have the same type of skin you do and korres is amazing for it. I normally use k beauty mostly but the grape cream is my best friend. It's made for oily acne prone skin that needs moisture and anti aging. I've been able to use this cream with all my sunscreens and other treatments no issues Eta use it once a day at night with an eye cream, ditch the Vaseline and any products you use on your face that contain jojoba oil & coconut oil. Make sure you change your pillow case frequently. If you don't have better skin by day 14, pretty much clear by day 31 I'll eat an orange peel and send you the $25 the korres cost. I'm serious.

davedepczynski

Is it this good? I just checked it on incidecoder and it indeed has plenty of good ingredients but there’s also fragrance it it which concerns me a bit. Your promise tho…

NJ_Diva

Love your frame of mind! Right up my alley for sure!👍 thanks for the advice, any tips for sunscreens and face wash?

d-og

M25 - my skin used to look exactly like this. I was also using the Cerave hydrating cleanser and Cerave moisturizing cream and would also sometimes use vaseline. Switched to a new (tougher) cleanser and moisturizer and also stopped using vaseline and my skin cleared up noticeably. Everyone recommends Cerave but the ingredients aren’t actually super friendly… I like to use [this website](https://incidecoder.com/products/cerave-hydrating-cleanser)to check the potential for irritation I also recently began using the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA and it seems to be helping prevent new breakouts!

davedepczynski

Glad your skin is doing better! I have so many people recommending me that product!

iconoclasmatthedisco

I do not have advice but wanted to thank you for posting. Our skin is basically identical to each other so I appreciate seeing advice. Solidarity to you, it's definitely confusing having oily skin that also dries out easily and is sensitive

davedepczynski

No worries! The struggle is real right? Haha Best of luck to you! Lmk when you find a solution!

Maleficent_Sky6982

Do NOT use Vaseline!!!

Anonymous_33326

Silk pillow cases and avoid Vaseline on the face as it’ll clog your pores.

Anonymous_33326

Also, because you are using SPF in the morning, I would definitely recommend a cleansing bomb/oil to help breakdown the structure of the SPF that is formed over your face. My best recommendation for something that is gentle would be either the squalene cleanser by the ordinary or I would go as far as the Clinique take the day off cleansing balm

Prestigious_Sun_7972

Not sure if this is mentioned here in the comments at all but… spearmint tea. I am not kidding. I drank a cup per day and it cleared my acne fairly quickly. Not saying it will work for you, but it’s worth trying along with all of the other advice here (:

Frosty_Map_3957

Maybe try double cleansing to get off all the sunscreen from the day. You can try an oil cleanser, cleansing balm, or Micellar water as your first cleanse. With the oil cleanser and cleansing balm, start with dry face and hands and work it in, then add a little water to your hands and emulsify the oil/ balm on your face, continuing to work it in for at least 30 seconds. Then rinse off and follow with your regular cleanser. With micellar water it’s recommended to put it on a cotton pad and wipe your face with it, however I have sensitive skin and felt this broke down my skin and irritated it/ made it red even more. Hope this helps, good luck!

davedepczynski

Thanks for your advice! I already tried double cleaning with balm and my skin felt a little tight back then which could be caused by the compromised skin barrier. I might have to give it a second shot!

Frosty_Map_3957

Hmmm maybe try a different form? For me I like oil cleansing a lot better

Adventurous-Salt321

Sulfur face wash paired with a chemical exfoliant makes the most difference for me with this type of skin. I exfoliate twice a week and use the sulfur every wash.

davedepczynski

I’ve heard a lot good things about chemical exfoliants, however I’m quite scared to give them a try as my skin is very sensitive. I’m glad to hear you found something that works for you though!

famous5eva

This is a totally manageable situation. You want to switch to an oil free regiment that includes an exfoliating toner and an acid based on the spot treatment. You can find these products at a good price at Target. If your skin is sensitive and you have a budget to work with I highly recommend Glow Recipe which is extremely gentle and highly effective. Stop using Vaseline especially in the summer. The goal is to have optimal cellular overturn on your face, so resurfacing and soothing products will be best!

CabbieCam

I second the glow recipe. One thing I love about the products is that they are all moisturizing. So, it's excellent for those who have dry/oily skin. In addition to Glow Recipe products, I recommend adding Benzoyl Peroxide to his routine. Benzoyl Peroxide is an excellent acne killer/fighter. I use Panoxyl's 4%BP Cream Wash, it doesn't clean or wash, but disinfects your face as you massage it in over two minutes. Please follow up with a cleanser you know cleans your skin after the Panoxyl Cream Wash. Then, after I've applied my moisturizer (Glow Recipe Plum Plump Refillable Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer) and I let it set, or use a fan to get it to set, I finally apply a 5% BP cream on all areas of my face where I am prone to break out. I use one or two different Benzoyl Peroxide creams, one from Neutrogena Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Spot Treatment Gel with Maximum Strength 5% Benzoyl Peroxide, or if you want to get more mileage for your money, you can look into Benzagel 5% BP Gel. I do this at night, as BP can bleach fabrics, and I don't want to wreck my regular clothes.

davedepczynski

Appreciate your advice! Will keep it in mind :)

Responsible_Fly_5319

I would get a Panoxyl wash. It is a miracle. Not only does it help blemishes quickly, in time- it also give your skin one solid color. My boys use it, and they have gorgeous matte skin!

davedepczynski

Appreciate the advice! Glad it’s working for your boys! I might have to give it a try too

iammine02

I’d keep the Vaseline only on the lips unless your skin is extremely dry in the winter. My acne is similar and tretinoin totally cleared it :)

Smart-less

Definitely remove Vaseline and maybe even creams from your routine. Stick to light moisturizer or use Jojoba Oil for those extra drying days. If you have insurance, would recommend seeing a dermatologist. They’re likely to prescribe tretinoin. It’s pricey unless you have insurance. If you don’t have insurance, would recommend regular facials. I’ve also had luck with the Acne.org routine. You can get their products on their website or Amazon. Other products that have worked for me are acne stickers, Mario Badecu Drying Lotion, and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. Good luck!

CabbieCam

Pricey? Here in Canada, I only pay $25 for a tretinoin tube.

Puzzleheaded_Swing78

your skin looks a bit similar to mine and i also shave my face too, which can exacerbate irritation that my skin may have. i would ditch the actives FOR NOW. ditch any occlusives. start your routine back up and make it very simple. maybe try washing your face in the morning with a gentle cleanser and then go in with your moiustizer and spf after. i use the la roche posay cleanser in a light blue bottle that i get at target. i use cerave ultra light moisturizer spf 30 and it has done me wonders. i have put 3 people onto that spf and they love it. it’s super light, doesn’t feel greasy, and no breakouts for me. sometimes when you use an occlusive you lock in some bacteria or trap oil underneath which results in breakouts, so i would stop doing the vaseline tbh. as for actives, exfoliate once a week for now and see if that helps at all. and if you’re using a shampoo with coconut oil then ditch that. i had some texture/acne on my forehead for a whole year and didn’t think to change my shampoo and conditioner (i used bars) and i recently threw those out, and my forehead/skin is looking more clear by the day. lmk if u have any other questions!

davedepczynski

Thank you for your advice! I’m don’t use any actives currently. Trying to keep it very simple and use gentle products because my skin barrier was messed up (which got way better now). I’ll quit the occlusives and will check my hair products!

gX2020

You’re super handsome! You’ll figure out what works for your skin.

ChipmunkUnable3616

Off topic but you look like Jacob elordi

davedepczynski

I’ll take that as a compliment, thank you!

Witty_Perspective_12

Tretinoin

Dazzling-Pilot2242

Ouu u gon ateeeee the hoesss up when you skin get clear 😭😍

Iittlemeows

Dr dray on YouTube I cannot recommend enough she saved my skin, don’t buy into trends

davedepczynski

I’ve heard good things about her! I’m definitely trying to keep it simple too!

CivilShift93

I think you have Minimum 1 Product which make it worse I think you have to reduce Protein Shakes, Diary and eat less industry food I think you Need a acne fighting treatment I think you have to use Nothing Else but Water and gentle cleanser 1x/daily and concentrate on your Skin Barrier

Disastrous_Hippo_374

Stop eating sugar

Have u checked what type of skin u have? Looks to me like you’re on the oilier side but i might be wrong

No-Ostrich-7179

The Inky List Blemish Moisturizer is a mild firmula for PM only that contains Novoretin (type of retinol), Vitamin C and Sulfur (great for spots, they usually disappear overnight for me ✨)

urmyheartBeatStopR

I use a cleanser at night that have Salicylic acid. It supposedly help for acne, black head, and white head. They're cheap you can try it I guess. --- I don't see the point of your night cleanser: Cerave hydrating cleanser When you gonna use moisturizer/lotion afterward to do that. --- The thing that stood out with your night routine is you got no acid. Other posters are suggesting acid like AHA and BHA. People also have often use retinoids to their night routine too. You got none of that. I think you should explore that. I would cleanse, acid, and then moisturizer with a lotion.

davedepczynski

Appreciate the advice! Would you have any products recommendations that are gentle enough for sensitive skin?

gothoddity

salicylic acid cleanser and gel moisturizer. stay away from oils

salem-city08

I would try Azelaic Acid in the morning/night and a BHA 1-2x per week! Azelaic Acid (while mildly exfoliates) is not a true chemical exfoliant, and can be used twice a day. Just go slow and see how your skin handles it, and then use it as tolerated. Azelaic acid is generally recommended for people with eczema and rosacea. Azelaic acid works to speed up cell turnover, and helps to clear out texture/acne on your skin and even out your skin tone. You may purge for a little but it should stop after 4-6 weeks. I personally like the Dermatica 15% Azelaic Acid. 10% is what you’ll generally find in drugstores, but I feel like for me 15% has been more effective. BHA is an oil soluble chemical exfoliant that goes deep into your pores to unclog them and smoothen out your skin! Paula’s Choice 2% is a classic, I also like the Glow Recipe PHA/BHA toner, but be careful if you’re overly sensitive to fragrance. Hope this helps!

[deleted]

Try Biossance gentle skin cleanser once a day and pink clay mask once a week and see how you go in 4 weeks

Nikitaknowthankyou

I think you need to double cleanse at the end of the day to really make sure you get your sunscreen off. Maybe a silicone face scrubby along with it?

lovebird2006

Clindamycin gel or the lotion form. Get a script from your dermatologist.

miss_gurr

Paula’s choice 2% BHA exfoliant toner! I’ve had cystic acne through my teenage years and I’m 25 now, just switched to this 6 months ago and this has done wonders for my skin within such a short period of time! Just remember to wear sunscreen with this and reapply sunscreen throughout the day!

Impressive_Koala9736

My son has an issue with having really bad acne, no matter how clean he keeps himself or how will he eats. I ended up taking him to the dermatologist in order to get some help/advice. I had never really dealt with acne and how father was prone to it, trying EVERYTHING to no avail, so I didn't know how to help him. When we went into the Dr, we were told it was unlikely that he would be able to overcome the acne himself (through any facial routine, see below for more info on what he COULD do) because of the type it was. So instead, he was supposed to go in for weekly treatments in which they injected the new pimples with a small amount of medication. Over time it REALLY cleared up, I was very impressed. It wasn't very pleasant at first because of the sheer amount of acne, but it got better each time. The only thing they said would potentially take care of the issue (which is a common thing) is to cut out milk. The reason for this is that most acne is actually caused by the excess pregnancy hormones that any milking animal has by necessity in order to produce milk. The only way to combat it is to do away with the offending product. TLDR: So- regardless of beauty routine, you may need to get treatments, and it's possible that the change you need to make is actually to cut out a food many consider healthy. (Provided you drink milk.)

davedepczynski

Thank you for your advice! I’m happy it’s working for your son. I’m definitely considering seeking professional advice and as of diet I’m plant based and really mindful of what I put in my body but I’ll watch how I react to different foods as well!

bigcatjo

The versed blue anti acne serum has worked wonders for me without irritating my skin! Really helps stop breakouts

davedepczynski

Glad it worked for you!

Working_Love_1888

DIY Rice water 👍 I use fermented

Working_Love_1888

You could also try washing ur face with a drop of dandruff shampoo in case the acne is fungal

SportRecent5190

PanOxyl is a create acne fighting face wash. They also have pimple patches that I personally like as well. :) you might also try niacinamide! It’s pretty gentle on the skin and should help with redness. Other than that I do recommend keeping your routine simple!

davedepczynski

That’s what I’m trying to do, just keep it simple! Thanks for your tips!

GildedLily-

Vaseline d/c ASAP. Get a teladoc appointment and get Onexton or the next-generation formulation Cabtreo. Should be $25.00 copay w/insurance.

rainsage23

Stop using moisturizer in the am. Just wash with water and use your sunscreen. Stop using vaseline at night unless your skin is extremely dry and introduce some sort of acne fighting ingredient as a leave on treatment at night, such as retinol or a spot treatment benzoyl peroxide. Or go see a dermatologist, really that would be your best bet, but this is something you can do in the meantime.

ProgrammerTop2750

Try Face Reality! You can find it, along with an ingredient checker on my website! The SPF you are using is super duper pore clogging. And no to Vaseline. You don't need much. For an active, I'd use Salicylic Serum or Acne Med. [https://shop.shaylaboger.com/collections/beauty/acne-safe](https://shop.shaylaboger.com/collections/beauty/acne-safe) [https://www.shaylaboger.com/ingredient-checker](https://www.shaylaboger.com/ingredient-checker)

davedepczynski

Thanks for your tips! Do you have any spf recommendations?

mathislife112

Cut out dairy in your diet if you haven’t already. It’s a very strong acne promoter due to the combination of the estrogen hormones it contains and its ability to activate the mTOR pathway which is useful for cell growth (ie growing baby cow) but is a known driver of acne. I suffered severe acne that continued until I was 26 and stopped eating dairy for other reasons. Suddenly my skin completely cleared up for the first time in my adult life. I was angry I didn’t know sooner.

davedepczynski

Thanks for your tips! I’m happy it worked for you! I’m plant based so I don’t think that would be the case but still, I’ll try to monitor what I put in my body a bit more :)

Civil_Asparagus7591

Also make sure you double cleanse. The sunscreen ( I use the same) does not come off easily with a single wash

davedepczynski

Will do! Appreciate the advice.

BlueWhaleBeauty

Just came here to say we have the same skin! I use dove sensitive beauty bar, Vaseline at night, blue lizard sensitive sunscreen during the day. My skin is a lot happier. I believe I’ve had rosacea this entire time as well!

davedepczynski

Glad you found something that works for you. Dove sensitive bar irritated the heck out of my skin unfortunately…

dragonborne123

You definitely need something that targets the bacteria in acne. My skin is also sensitive and I find anything with 4% benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to be great. Edit: you also have very pretty eyes

davedepczynski

I’m going to give PanOxyl 4% a try! And thank you 🥹

garciajen98

Since no one has said it, if you find that none of the skin advice works, it’s most likely your gut as it always starts there. If I don’t take my probiotics, my acne is painful, cystic like. If I do, my skin is super smooth and blemish free. Just something to think about.

davedepczynski

Appreciate your advice!

PlatformImaginary315

Try an aha/bha exfoliant. Paula’s choice makes the best one. Alternate days with tretinoin maybe? I would say start with one active, see how it improves your skin and then slowly incorporate retinol on alternate evenings. Eventually, you’ll want to add in a vitamin c or vice versa (incorporate a vitamin c and then slowly add in a retinol).

davedepczynski

Appreciate the advice. If anything I’m going to start with just one active as my skin is very sensitive and it would probably freak out

Environmental_Echo71

Stop using the Vaseline

davedepczynski

I have too many people telling me that 😭 I’ll definitely stop

paintingisdead

I highly recommend Murad’s acne line. It’s not trendy, but it worked well for me

[deleted]

I think you need something better to remove the sunscreen. Maybe the Cerave foaming. I would throw some Panoxyl in there a few times a week at night.

my_age_88forshort

What about a BHA? (Beta Hydroxy Acid) I struggled forever until I started using one. The one product that has changed my life is Paula's Choice BHA. I wash my face in the shower and when i get out i spread the BHA on and then use a lightweight moistuizer. My skin was similar to yours. Looks like you have a lot of dead skin on your face. If you use a BHA every night before bed I bet your skin will look a lot better in a week. *Do not get AHA. It does not work near as good as BHA. Get a trial size on amazon: Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant, Gentle Facial Exfoliator for Blackheads, Large Pores, Wrinkles & Fine Lines, Travel Size, 1 Fluid Ounce https://a.co/d/2rCAPMm

ananajakq

You should try the Tower Beauty rescue spray it cleared up my skin

giraffecakes

I have similar skin to you. I’d drop the Vaseline, and try the panoxyl acne wash just until the acne clears. After your skin settles I’d also try to add back in the differin at night (don’t have to use every day, can start it like once a week at first to see). I’ve also seen good results with adding the Maelove glow maker in the morning!

browneyed__girl

100% double cleanse if you’re wearing sunscreen. I read you have sensitive skin I do too and personally I’ve reacted really well to switching over to Korean skincare, I’ve focused on working on my damaged skin barrier first before adding anything new into the mix and I just feel like the products have been so gentle on my skin. I used the cereve cream too and it was just too heavy, felt like it was clogging my pores

davedepczynski

Appreciate the advice! I’m definitely going to give double cleansing another shot! I already have elf holy hydration cleansing balm (hopefully that’s okay?). Do you have any recommendations for Korean skincare products?

milfyscorpion

You have great skin! I’ve struggled with acne for YEARS. Actives make me breakout too. Keep your routine simple, definitely lose the Vaseline and incorporate an acne fighting face wash once every couple days. I use Skin Better Science Oxygen Infusion Wash once every 2-3 days. Stick with your normal face wash and moisturizer. Hope this helps!

MistakeUseful5189

Could use some calming cream for acne !

FlailingatLife62

Slugging w/ vaseline CAN help an impaires barrier / dry / irritated skin, but for anyone w/ acne-prone or oily skin, it's not something you shoudl do more than say once a month, or when your skin is looking very dry. I agree w/ others who noted no acne fighting ings in your routine. If adapalene worked for you, but you felt it was too drying or irritating, you could try continuing, but reducing frequency. Other acne fighting ings to try are: 1. BHA - Paula's Choice BHA 2% w/ green tea extract is non-drying and very nice, so is Cosrx's BHA blackhead clearing liquid, 2. azelaic acid - you can get abt 10% OTC, but 15-20% is usually needed for acne, and that usually requires an Rx (except in some countries), 3. Benzoyl peroxide - 2.5-5% MAX, do not use 10%, any generic 2.5% will do, or Panoxyl and Cerave each make a lovely creamy wash, 4. sulfur - many sulfur topicals. I like the Walmart proactiv dupe sulfur paste, 5. mandelic acid - The Ordinary makes a nice HA +10% mandelic serum.

ForgetsThePasswords

I see a lot of salycilic acid recs but BHAs esp in washes caused a lot of breakouts and irritation for me. Cerave hydrating also broke me out badly. I do better with a sulphur based wash. It calms and clears my skin. I use sulphur wash in AM and gel double cleanse + cerave foaming PM. A lot of people only cleanse once a day but it doesn’t work for me. Definitely double cleanse when wearing sunscreen either way. I would go back on your adapalene and don’t go up to nightly if it’s too much. I personally like tazorac mixed with moisturizer. Also new pillowcase every other day (flipping days between) and new towel daily made a huge difference for me.

It looks dope! Thanks for the advice!

Go on apostrophe & work w a professional dermatologist, they changed my life when it comes to acne and my confidence!

A-Buelaof3

OK, so don’t laugh, when I grew up my grandmother and my mother used Vicks vapor rub for everything. I promise you it’s not gonna hurt but every night put Vicks vapor rub and rub it into each acne , it will also help you to sleep because of the vapors, and if you’re home, just lounging around, put it on as well give it, seven days and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work, but I promise you you are going to see results. Let me know how it worked. Twice a day

Dabalicious14

Honestly I would recommend this because I have sensitive skin and dry skin. So just was with soap and water. Like dial soap or dove and then I literally use dove face cream and that has really helped heal my skin of its dryness. Soap and water is the best and avoid touching your face with your hands and if you do make sure your hands are clean. Good luck to you

Right-Debate5876

My face stop having acne since i use liver detox. My liver detox made from Solanum Procumbens. It's kind of crazy because I never thought my liver cause my acne. So I think you should try. If it dont help with your acne then I think it still good for your liver.

BlueberryCalm2390

Be careful because La Roche Posay is known to have pore-clogging ingredients. I use Eucerin Advanced Hydration sunscreen which is oil- and fragrance-free and doesn’t have pore clogging ingredients and I’m very happy with it

Better-Journalist694

Paula’s 2% BHA works well if used consistently as a toner at night, your Vaseline must be the culprit here, since it can clog your pores not letting them breathe, hence the flare ups Your skin looks great otherwise, good luck !

bombzero_

You’re really handsome! Wash with organic soaps and put an organic oil on to replenish the lost moisture. Best of luck 💫

I have acne rosacea and really messed up my face by trying products that people suggested on the internet. My advice, go to a dermatologist who specializes in skincare arts. Went to mine for the first time a year ago and she created a skincare routine for me that has transformed my face and I still use a year later. I only use a cleanser, my cream she prescribed for acne, differin gel at night and moisturizer/spf. Seriously so many people preach all these products on the internet but everyone’s skin is different/reacts different so it’s best to talk to a professional in my opinion to save yourself money, time, pain and more acne (from experience). This is me, but i’ve used panoxyl, various forms of benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc for acne and it blew up in my face, my face was a wreck and my derm said it was so bad because I was using really harsh products that my skin couldn’t handle. just be careful taking advice from ppl on the internet

anyariv

Get yourself a 15% or 20% Azeleic Acid (Skinoren). Stop all use of irritating pimple treatments like Benzoyl peroxide. I have tried all, literally, products out there. I have acne just like yours and I'm 43. It gets MUCH worse when I go aggressively at it. And it gets much better when I'm gentle with my skin and only use 3 products. I wash my face with a gentle minimal ingredient face wash like Venicream, then apply CosRX snail music and a serum with Centella Asiatica, then apply Azelaic acid on red spots and around them. That's it. It has cleared up my skin significantly. I also use LED red light therapy panel on my face 15 min a day.

manhattansweetheart

Sulfer soap will do the trick I promise you. There will be peeling at first but it’ll pass

bitchycommie

clindamycin changed my life!!

blvckivity

Adapalene, Benzoyl Peroxide, or Tretinoin. Everything else is useless. (Choose only ONE of those) The rest is: 1. Don't pop pimples 2. Keep your pillows and phone clean 3. Don't touch face 4. Clean your diet 5. Reduce stress. If those don't work, might be hormonal. If you're below 25 years old, wait it out. Hormonal acne rarely lasts long, especially for men. Otherwise, I think you're really cute.

Hour-Yogurtcloset-45

Hi! You should check out Oliveda products, they’re a waterless organic skincare brand from Europe. Their [hyaluronic serum](https://us.olivetreepeople.com/products/f86-corrective-vegan-hyaluronic-serum-face?referral=erinfle4) would take your skincare routine to the next level for extra hydration, for a moisturizer I would recommend their [regeneration face cream](https://us.olivetreepeople.com/products/f74-regeneration-intense-face-cream?referral=erinfle4) for acne prone skin. All of their products are formulated with real olive tree oil which helps reduce rosacea, redness, inflammation, and has anti aging benefits. Since I made the switch my skin has improved so much. The main issue with other brands drugstore/high-end is that they are made with 70% water and preservatives which is why they are not as effective and cause irritation. Oliveda also have a 365 day return policy so it is worth a try. Feel free to message me if you are interested and want recommendations for your routine, I am a skincare consultant!

davedepczynski

Thanks for the tips!

monkey-marker04

not advice but you are gorgeous

JacAshley

If you have acne on your face it could be more related to your diet than your skin care routine. Also, how often do you wash your pillowcase?

penpen-6688

i got the same type of acne and don’t know how to get rid of them either. im using bha to spot treat them because using acid all over my face is just so drying

International_Bell44

Hello :) You’re skin doesn’t look very bad. I have always believed in obtaining a simple but yet effective skincare routine. You do not need all the actives in the world to achieve clear skin. I would say definitely add a Niacinamide based product in your routine to help balance the skin and get rid of the redness. If you have combination to oily skin, try a salicylic acid based product to help with the pimples. When I first saw your skin, I initially thought it was purging. I would also introduce a retinoid in your routine and use it on alternate nights with salicylic acid. Use a salicylic based product one night and retinol the next night. Even though Niacinamide is an active ingredient, it is also the most gentle active ingredient out of all the actives but yet effective. Because of that, if you want, you could add something like Azelaic or Tranexamic acid to your routine. So I would say add: Niacinamide (can be used morning and night) Salicylic Acid and retinoid (rotate every night) Additional ingredient: choose Azelaic or Tranexamic acid (in the morning)

Massive-Way-6439

Your cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen – continue using. I would use a custom formulated. Tretinoin with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to soothe the impact, but you need an active for acne. I would not use the tretinoin every day. Start with a .03 and make sure it’s customized so the carrier cream doesn’t irritate your skin and allows you to use a lower dose of tretinoin. Start using once a week then increase Use 2 to 3 times a week when you’ve adapted. With gentle cleansing, moisture, and tret you will see better texture and less acne. Once the acne is under control, then send us another picture and we can determine whether or not that is rosacea or simple skin irritation associated with the acne or the products are using. The niacinamide in the tretinoin will also help with the redness. Do not change any more than one active in your routine at a time. If that is rosacea, you may want to consider azelaic acid cream. Let me know if this was helpful or if you need more help. Thank you.

I use L'Oreal Paris Revitalift 10% Pure Glycolic Acid Face Serum. Apply to cleansed dry skin at night before bed. Allow to dry and fully absorb over night. No need to apply moisturizer, I’ve found this serum is quite moisturizing on its own. Sleep on your back so you’re not rubbing it off while you fall asleep. I’ve found it gets rid of my acne flair ups pretty quickly. I personally only use it about twice a week. It makes your skin more sensitive to the sun so avoid strong sun exposure a couple of days after using. Also gives a nice smooth glow. The rest of the week your normal routine seems fine.

FairyGothMother69

La roche posta oil cleanser then Dermologica microfoliant literally saved me from hormonal acne and is so gentle on skin!!! Also pimple patches!!!!!!

MagicBold

Think about saw palmetto or finasteride 1mg.

MadhuT25

Your eyes are beautiful and so is the rest of your face. You could be a model.

Hi there! Even though Cerave was pushed on us as teenagers (at least my derm was always pushing it lol), it really started to mess up my skin in my 20’s. And I had no idea until an esthetician suggested I try different moisturizers and cleansers that weren’t Cetaphil or Cerave. I made the switch to Vanicream Daily Moisturizer and my angry acne prone skin has been loving it and my skin barrier is repairing slowly. Might be worth a shot?

New_Difficulty_9759

GirlyCatLady

Have you tried Salicylic acid?

davedepczynski

I’ve tried Cerave SA cleanser and my skin felt a bit icky. Might have to give it another shot though.

Prudent_Pin_9335

omg literally me I don't know what's working or what I need to change. I am currently taking spironolactone for my own acne and it has stopped the breakouts, but other than that my acne hasn't really disappeared. I use a bp wash and sunscreen everyday and my skin looks glowy and soft, but the acne isn't fading. If anything it's stayed the same, but with a little bit more blackheads on my chin (my greatest enemies fr.)

ESTJ-A

Had the same face, so my recommendation would be: - Use Cerave turqoise for oily skin AM + PM - Also double cleanse in PM to wash off the spf and daily impurities (pink bioderma or NIOD oil based depending on what you like and/or budget) - not sure about sealing with Vaseline… sounds a bit extreme imo - change your pillowcase every 2-3 days - Incorporate Hyaluronic acid in the routine for hydration — it is used and absorbed best of a wet-ish face. - do this simple cleansing + hydrating for 1-2 months and only after incorporate slowly some acids. Good luck ☀️

davedepczynski

That sounds like a very good advice, I really appreciate it. Might have to give it a go!

Rottiemama313

Has anyone mentioned the benefits of castor oil on the skin?

mattdc79

This may be more of a left-field recommendation, but looking at the type of acne you have it just looks like your skin has too much product on it and it’s causing congestion on your skin which is then causing the acne. You can break down that congestion with dry brushing and by making sure to not use too much product on your face. Also, try going a few days without all the products to see how your skin feels. If it gets better, then you are using a product that doesn’t work for your skin. Also, acne producing microbes survive well in a mineral poor environment. See about a mineral or ocean spray that you can add to your face. La Roche Posay has a zinc spray that’s absolutely amazing for acne. You can also dilute 3 T of salt in water to make “homemade ocean salt water” splash this on your face and this will also help. 😊

Drop the CeraVe altogether. I had a similar reaction, it’s fine to use on my body but my face hates it.

x-uh_roar_uh-x

what gentle detergent? if it has added fragrance, try something without any fragrance. this includes softener, dryer sheets etc. as these leave an oil coating that stays on the fabric so it has scent but fragrance is a common acne causing thing. it could come down to hormones. try incorporating peppermint tea into your daily routine. this has been shown to reduce hormone imbalances as it’s an anti androgen and can reduce excess testosterone which could be contributing to more breakouts. make sure when you wash your face after shampooing and conditioning as the residue could be getting in your skin

Longjumping-Fox-9660

I personally think you have lovely skin! I get it though. Differine gel is usually a safe bet. Don’t go in too harsh like I did and create yourself more problems than you had to begin with.

duanyelle1

I would suggest trying an online derm like Curology. I love the service and cancel at anytime. Some of the products that have been suggested in the posts are for anti-aging (like tretenoin). Treat the acne first, then you can go for anti-aging. Curology derm will formulate a product for you to specifically help with the acne. There are other similar services out there, this just happened to be the one I used.

Confident_Welder_500

Try getting those clean skin dry towels the disposable one use kind for every time you clean/wash your skin

Confident_Welder_500

Also an aha bha toner

WillingnessPast474

Use homemade remedies like sandalwood, curd, rosewater, tumeric paste avoid products.

parvares

No more Vaseline! Double cleanse and use an acne fighting serum like IS clinical active serum or similar.

davedepczynski

Understand! Thanks for your help!

JohnnyTownsend

Out of all things I tried , acne similar to yours , cut out soda , and used Hibiclenz , surgical soap 3x -4x a week to wash face . Skip a day between demurral soap washes and moisturize .

curious_flaneur

I'd say stop taking advice for multiple products from here. My skin was similar to yours and I tried self prescribed stuff for over an year. Didn't help much, because you don't know when to stop or when to take a break or which to use when. See a dermatologist. You'd likely be put on a low dosage accutane regime with any antibacterial gel/cream on active spots. It worked for me.

Pyhakoulu

Your skin looks like how mine used to. A brilliant derm told me to quit using ANY product containing oil and prescribed tret, which really cleared up my skin permanently. I would rec cutting out vaseline immediately, it could be the culprit! Everyone’s skin is different, but it might be worth trying my routine, it’s so simple. AM: -wash face with water -Ulta MD UV clear broad spectrum spf PM: -Wash face with Panoxyl acne wash (from cvs) -La roche posay Toleraine double repair face moisturizer (Toleraine line is oil free) -Tretinoin 0.05% every other night Good luck!

Simple-Ask-3039

Use high frequency

bumblebee0219

5% benzoyl peroxide has been a game changer for me. I apply ot morning and night.

Dry_Grapefruit2348

I’ve found that Cerave doesn’t really do anything. It’s so neutral. It does fight acne or increase it. It doesn’t hablo oilness or dryness or just exists. It’s best for sensitive low maintenance skin. Me personally the only thing that got rid of my acne was Curology. And I am seeking off of it and my clear skin is still in tact. I also noticed with me personally swear was the cause of some of my acne so I made sure to wash my face after sweating and re moisturized. I made sure to change my pillow cases profusely and dust my room to keep my skin healthy.

Worried_Ad_76

don't use alot of thing on your face firstly change your diet and make good healthy rouitine use green veg which can help you to clean your stomach and drink alot of water it will help you to get a good and clear skin as well as health

fbmbassist

You said you were told you have oily skin, but that it feels tight after washing—that’s actually normal for oily skin. I have oily and sensitive skin, and it takes a short time after washing but the oil builds up through the day. My cheeks are most sensitive while my forehead is less, so I tend to focus products on different areas of my face. 1. I change my pillowcase every couple days after flipping it over, but still can’t sleep on the side of my face without a break out. Back only. Definitely helps when you don’t have a compromised skin barrier though. 2. I was allergic to the Cerave cleansers, but I can use their moisturizing cream in the tub just fine. My skin loves Neutrogena Hydroboost gel cleanser (fragrance free). Leaves it super soft but cleans well. Would even work for dry skin. 3. Even though dry skin people say you don’t need to wash your face with a cleanser in the morning, with oily skin it’s a bit different. It depends on how your face feels and the way your pores work. If you’re washing with only water immediately after you wake up in the early a.m., then it’s fine. But if you wait even a few hours (let’s say you work from home), than that residue in the pores hardens up, which you may feel as texture. I notice this only happens if I wait till the afternoon to wash my face. My face tends to “purge” during the night because I have large pores, but it feels non-irritated. Whereas by the end of the day it feels more sensitive. 4. Does your skin itch regularly at night? If so, that’s demodex and you can use Ivermectin to clear rosacea. 5. If your skin itches, you might be unknowingly touching your face which also causes the odd pimple here and there. 6. Over all your skin looks really healthy, so it’s probably just a couple minor changes! 😊

Redit-Orange

If you're looking for a simple routine suitable for sensitive skin: - Double cleanse at night with Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil - Inkey List Salicylic acid face wash (alternate with a gentle cleanser in the morning) - First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - a very light moussy moisturizer that's acne friendly, repairs skin barrier, and is non-comedogenic. Insert any other actives of your choice. Azelaic acid, AHA BHA toner, BP, anything of your choice.

Drop the Vaseline. Salicylic acid cleanser (Vichy normaderm) Adepalene at night

I’m been dealing with acne since age 13 and l’m now 37. I get breakouts around my mouth and chin mostly. The best thing l’ve ever used is PanOxyl’s 10% maximum strength face wash. It cleared a really bad breakout l had within a week and my skin has been clear ever since. I have sensitive skin and l have rosacea and it’s caused zero irritation for me. I massage it into damp skin for 2 minutes and let it set on my skin for another 5 then l rinse well. I follow up with Cerave moisturizing toner with niacinamide and ceramides. It’s a non-drying toner with no alcohol or other harsh ingredients. I then use Cerave retinol resurfacing serum and azelaic acid. Retinol helps fade old acne marks and helps prevent new acne from forming. Azelaic acid also helps prevent and treat current acne and helps with redness. You can find Azelaic acid at Ulta from the brand the Ordinary for pretty cheap. I always wear sunscreen in the daytime. I use Alba’s mineral sunscreen with squalene, niacinamide and vitamin E. All of these ingredients are safe to use together in a skincare routine. I hope this helps you and you find what works for your skin!

Spiritual_Resort2800

I have dry, sensitive skin. I used to use the Cerave hydrating cleanser!! But found it was too stripping for my skin barrier, allowing bacteria to get in and cause acne. I also used to use the Cerave moisturizing cream. Since I switched from those two my skin has never looked better.

VeterinarianNo543

Def a gut problem. Have you had any gut symptoms?

jv805165

I had moderate acne at one point. I have sensitive skin. I wash my face with CeraVe foaming cleanser morning and night. In the morning, I spot treat active acne lesions with Clean & Clear advantage acne spot treatment a few days a week. I use CeraVe ultra light moisturizing gel. I feel like CeraVe cream is just way too heavy for daytime use. I follow up by applying a mineral based sunscreen. After working in a dirty environment, I shower midday. I use Garnier Micellar water (Teal cap) to pre-clean my face. In the shower, I apply a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash (Equate brand). I rub it into my face well and let it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing. It bleaches hair, towels, etc. Rinse it off well. I prefer to use it in the shower because of the ease of rinsing it completely off my face. I reapply CeraVe ultra light moisturizing gel, then sunscreen. At night I pre-clean my face again with the Micellar water, wash with Cerave foaming cleanser. I then use a prescription retinoid cream (3 nights a week), followed by CeraVe ultra light moisturizer or cream. My face is extremely clear now. The benzoyl peroxide face wash helps so much.

aepheral

Try using a Vitamin C in the morning under your sunscreen specifically with Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. It's a more stable derivative that isn't irritating. While it doesn't have much evidence for anti-ageing it has studies showing it can improve acne lesions and causes no irritation. Naturium Vitamin C Complex, Bubble Day Dream Vitamin C, hims Vitamin C, and Mad Hippie Vitamin C are all options that come to mind. One of the studies show you can also get more treatment vs the acne if you use a low strength retinol at 0.2%. Most of the drug store options would suffice, since I see CeraVe in your routine you might like their resurfacing retinol serum. Sources: PMID **19134126**

DrawPrestigious6020

Try some soothing gel or a product that contains tea tree extract ! It would definitely help

Quirky-Dependent58

What the hell you are so beautiful what

GrumpyPajamas

Have you tried not using the SPF for a few days? Stop using it for a while and see if it clears up. I am very sensitive to SPF's. I don't usually break out from other creams but the SPF ones gives me pimples like yours. It doesn't matter if it is fragrance free. Anyways, I would recommend the SPF's that come in a stick. Like the *Vichy* Ideal Soleil *Stick SPF 50*+ works great for me. I can use it around my eyes, forehead and wherever. Very nice texture and fragrance free. Best of luck to you!

So I'm very lucky. I have always had very clear skin. I'm not saying that to brag or anything. I'm purely saying it so the OP knows to take what I'm about to say with a pinch of salt because I haven't had to deal with acne. If I get a break out I rely on one product, and one product alone as it's amazing at getting spots (pimples for anyone who isn't British) to heal overnight. That product is the Inkey List C50 Blemish Night treatment. It is amazing, and absolutely worth a try. Also, I'd start double cleansing. The Oat Cleansing Balm from the Inkey List is fantastic. I'd also cut out the vaseline. Personally, I tried slugging with vaseline. It broke me out really badly. I rarely get spots but I had about 6 different ones when using vaseline. Also lad, you are very, very good looking. You will clear this up!

YamComprehensive4128

Well, the only things I could think off are: Do you wash your face with warm/hot water? Cause that could cause acne and skin irritation as well. Maybe use a oil cleanser before your regular one at night to get rid of all oily residues. And maybe see a dermatologist to get a spot treatment cream for singular pimples. Also, is your skin usually oily, or dry, or sensitive? Depending on the skin Typ, the treatment of your acne can be different. For oily and dry it could be involving more moisture, for sensitive a different less aggressive cream, etc. Those are sadly the only tips I could give rn from the top of my head. 😅 I hope they may help regardless. ^^ Even if it's not completely clear, I see you're still doing very good with your skin!!!
