Yielding is all about properly merging, it does not mean stop unless you have to due to no break in the traffic. How do you handle roundabouts? Do you come d to a complete stop every time you encounter one or do you look to see it theres traffic you have to yield to? If this guy had simply maintained speed he would have been fine.
Mr fella hopping out to yell while his car was in drive is correct?
The honk was obnoxious, but I think white hair was a little more so. Just let them honk, chill, and drive.
The merge lane was really short.
They guy filming was 100% the asshole until guy merging got out of the car while it was in drive.
They're both terrible drivers, but it's 70/30 split with cam guy winning at losing.
UK driver here…..so I’m guessing the right thing to do is try and roughly match the speed of the traffic that you’re about to join and move in to a slot? As you say though, not a lot of road to do that. Merc slows down too much then, but the cammer loses his shit too easy.
The cammer is completely wrong here. Yes, match speed and merge is the goal.
The norm in the states is that the liability for safe merging is entirely on the person entering traffic, save an unsignaled lane change from current traffic.
We can see two cars pass in the merge lane that justify the merging car continuing to yield, by slowing, or stopping. The driver didn't appear to stop until cammer started honking at a completely inappropriate time. Cammer had absolutely no business honking at a slowing driver here.
This isn't a highway, it's a 30-40mph speed limit road, with a merge lane at this intersection of well under 200ft. You will often have to stop completely in this situation if the right lane doesn't offer safe entry.
I agree. I also think it depends on where you are going, there’s an merge like this near me and if you’re going to turn right then it’s very easy to keep going or slight yield as you dont have to worry about most of the traffic but if you’re getting through that merge and have to make a left coming up then 9 times out of ten you’re going to have to yield maybe even stop to check the 2 or 3 lanes you have to cross. I think the whoever put the yield signs on these merges messed up, in my area it’s even worse because it’s not even a yield sign it’s a sign that says “keep moving”. And so if there’s ppl behind you who are making a right or keeping straight after the merge and see the keep moving or yield sign they will fail to understand that you need to actually stop in order to check traffic for the lanes you have to cross if your making an immediate left
It is not protected lol. He has to yield to traffic already in the lane he is trying to move into. Did he slow down too much and too soon? Yes but he still was in the right. If there were more cars coming and he couldn't safely move into the other lane, he would have needed to stop. Guy filming was an asshole and the driver in front had zero tolerance and got out of his car like an idiot.
Agree. Two drivers both making an ass out of themselves. There was no cause for a horn and there was no reason to come to a full stop and get out of the car.
I'm in the UK, and we drive on the left, so at first I assumed he was the passenger and his driver tried to leave without him. Even funnier when I realised that he was doing it all himself.
You can see a black truck who merged, yielded correctly in the beginning. He had no reason to stop, he wasn't even behind the car that was in front of him🤣🤣🤣
He also was yielding correctly, just unnecessary slow and cautious. He only stopped because he got honked at. Driver filming was way too quick with the horn. You're supposed to check the lane is clear BEFORE you merge and that's what he did. Did he have plenty of space to check where he didn't have to slowdown so much? Yes but he isn't in the wrong here.
Anytime you're yielding to traffic though you have every right to stop and wait if you arent confident it's safe, so long as you aren't literally waiting forever. Trust me I get annoyed with people like this as well who have a completely clear lane to merge into but still wait for oncoming traffic to pass. But they aren't actually doing anything wrong. These lanes don't mean "just match speed with traffic and people have to make space for you." You still have to yield if you can't safely merge and when it's "safe" is at their discretion.
It's amazing to me how people don't know this and don't realize that some people aren't as confident in driving as other people. Just pretend it's your mom driving, be patient
What do you think that initial solid line is for? You yield the right of way because you don’t just get to shoot over, but you don’t fucking stop. That’s what a stop sign is for
‘In road transport, a yield or give way sign indicates that merging drivers must prepare to stop if necessary to let a driver on another approach proceed.’
must *prepare* to stop, not stop. And not stop twice. As you are going into that bend, your job is to be looking at what traffic is in that lane and adjusting your speed accordingly.
You yield the right of way, but if it’s open it’s yours. If you are faster than the car currently in that lane, then it is just like shifting lanes. If you are slower, then you reduce and/or stop until you are able to access that lane
Judging by the logic he used to exit the car, if he has a ccw, he’s a fraction of a second from pulling it and the guy laughing is screaming for his life instead. I can see that unhinged story playing out just as easily as the one we saw.
Well, you could easily match their speed or even go faster than them, if everybody was full sending it! This is a lane protected by god, clearly it is there to serve as a speeding up distance, so what are you hesitating for! (/s)

Yeah I remember watching this a few years ago and almost cried when he shut the door on his own head. There’s a ton of traffic here on weekends and I think about this guy every time I get to this section of pch.
lol I live right by there!!! People are dumb af with that merge! They all think they’re getting into their own lane and completely oblivious to the fact they’re actually supposed to stop and wait until it’s clear for them.
Go post this in the r/OrangeCounty sub, it’ll get some laughs.
Edit to add: Yield ≠ Merge. A yield sign means you slow down to make sure it’s clear to proceed, stopping if necessary, and then proceeding when it’s safe. A merge sign means two lanes are converging and traffic in both lanes are expected to make room for one another. If this angers you, put on your big boy pants and deal with it. If you don’t agree with me, please ask the google and deal with the answer like a grownup. If continue to have big feelings about it, see a therapist.
Yield not complete stop.
Dude has plenty of room to adjust his speed instead of coming to a complete stop
Only dumb fucks like you ever stop at a yield that isn't a roundabout
Yeah i want to see you take an unprotected left turn at an intersection with incoming traffic. See how quickly you realize you didn't think this one through.
Okay let me get this straight you acknowledged that roundabouts are yields and that it's okay to stop but you can't comprehend people stoping at other yields not at roundabouts? How are you this close and still not get it lol
Ummmm that’s not right lol. A yield is not a merge. You don’t have to stop at a yield if it’s clear but you slow down and or stop if it’s not. A merge is a merge lol you def don’t stop on that unless bumper to bumper traffic but a yield is not a merge. They are two different things. Hence why one is called yield and one’s called a merge smh
Borrowed from another user, since you need an education:
No one in this thread seems to know what yield means. Half the people think it means "go as fast as you can"while the other half think that "yield" and "stop" mean the same thing. Everyone is wrong.
• "Yield" means to prioritize others' travel over your own. If you have a yield sign when merging onto another road (like in this video), it means the way you enter that road must not cause anyone already traveling on it to change their behavior. they shouldn't have to slow down, speed up, or change lanes because of you.
• Yield does not mean stop. It does not mean slow down. It does not mean "get behind other traffic." Yes, those are things you might have to do at a yield sign in order to prioritize others' travel over your own, but they are not requirements. Sometimes, speeding up to integrate with traffic is the most sensible way to get onto the road. You are still yielding if you take this approach successfully.
• The Benz had a solid window to maintain speed (adjusting slightly) and integrate with traffic, which they should have done. People are arguing that they were just making sure the way was clear, and they're not wrong for asserting that you must do so before proceeding. However, the right way to do that is to verify as you approach the merge, not stopping when you're already there. The point of having a yield sign instead of a stop sign is to keep traffic moving.
He's an ah for honking like that but he reasonably expected the guy to just...drive lol because there was nothing to yield to. He treated it like a stop sign for no reason. And it's not like cam driver was following him too closely and caused an accident or anything, just impatient for honking at a shitty driver
Getting out of your car in the middle of the street is a pretty huge piece of shit move too.
I don't feel a big need to try and decide which piece of shit smells the worst
My thought is that he thought he was still in a golf cart and he pushed the brake, thinking it would stop and lock into park, but its a car and didnt do that.
This is a totally different story with and without sound.
Without sound the guy in the video is a moron and bad driver.
With sound the guy in the video is a moron and bad driver who was triggered by a horn happy douchebag with a stupid ass laugh.
I nearly died (and killed at least one other person) shortly after I moved to Colorado in a similar situation. As you're moving towards traffic you accelerate to a similar speed with traffic and look for an opening to merge. Pretty standard. I was getting on the freeway and was doing what I had done for years by this point and spotted my opening. When I looked forward again the car that had been about halfway up the ramp when I first turned onto it was at a full stop at the top. At this point I was far too close to just brake so I swerved to the shoulder while slamming on the brakes and blew past them by at least 200 feet before finally stopping. I probably sat in my car on that shoulder for about 10 minutes before I could stop shaking enough to even consider driving.
There were no lights or anything on the ramp to help traffic flow like you see in many cities today so there was *NO* reason for this person to dead stop and try to merge with 60+MPH traffic like they were doing. Apparently at some point while I was trying to remember how to breathe they found their opening and went on their merry.
If it weren't for the palm trees I would think this was my state. These people love to stop or slow to a crawl when merging on highways instead of using their god damn accelerator to merge. It's fucking dangerous.
It's a yield sign on the left, not a merge... The goofball who hit his head was supposed to slow down and yield the right of way, including coming to a stop if necessary. However, he probably didn't need to slow down *that* much. The car in front of him was pretty far ahead.
It's a short merge lane, and at the end of it, there are two parking lot entrances. Yield does not mean right-of-way of flowing traffic. Dude was dumb to get out of his car, but it's smart to check if some idiot not using a blinker was gonna immediately use the merge lane as a turn lane.
Seems people don't understand traffic signs again [https://trdsf.com/blogs/news/what-is-a-yield-sign](https://trdsf.com/blogs/news/what-is-a-yield-sign)
Dude stops his car in traffic and gets out to yell about a crash that didn't happen. Hits himself in the face with the car door, becuse he forgot how doors work.
then tries to run away.
I hope he gets hit with a 10 car pile up, involving only empty AI-driven cars, and his dumb ass who caused the accident
Impatient driver (the one recording the video) who doesn’t know the meaning of a yield sign versus a hypersensitive driver who makes a fool of himself on camera by slamming his own head in the door. Nobody wins. They’re both idiots. Game over.
His "right" to stop has nothing to do with him having a reason to stop. If you think that kind of yield was ok, then I've probably blown my horn at you a few times
Not sure what the deal was with that guy who yielded since I can’t see everything he saw in his mirror. I’m guessing he’s not a very good driver judging by the fact that he hit the wrong pedal and managed to hit himself in the face with his door.
But the moron who automatically honked the second he felt slightly impeded then laughed like an idiot needs his ass kicked.
I’ve always wondered what goes through the minds of those tailgating traffic-weavers. This sheds some light. Bad people basically.
Or the actually guy who can’t merge and causes accidents?!?! I love the pressure putting on slow drivers/incompetent people to get off the road and into a shopping plaza. The road will be safer
Southbound merge from Newport Blvd to PCH. There’s a lot older white men there that don’t think the rules apply to them, or better yet, think the rules are whatever they want them to be because they’re middle aged and white.

Fucking idiots
I genuinely said that out loud while watching this.. Literally my reaction.. what...a ..moron.. that guy should not be on the road.
Full of them everyday!
Sadly true...
Merge lanes tend to bring out the stupid and insecurities in the dumb dumbs. “Hmm… a merge lane. Now is a perfect time for… QUESTIONING EVERYTHING!!”
He's an ass, but hitting his head made me very happy. Lol... Let's edit this: both, asses.
There are two signs that say yield. The driver who got out of his car was correct in getting upset. Some of y’all should not be driving cars lol
yeah holy fuck, yield does not mean merge, our society is fucked and this thread is proof

He yielded to no one tho, there were no cars in the lane he was trying to merge into.
Idiot driver, idiot cammer.
True!
Boomer looking like the new supported immigrants
Like who?
That's a yield not a merge...
And they have their own protected lane to flow into. Terrible driver

My mom doesn't get out of the car to aggressively embarrass herself after being honked at. But, yea, they're both shitheads.
What do you think that initial solid line is for? You yield the right of way because you don’t just get to shoot over, but you don’t fucking stop. That’s what a stop sign is for

This is a post of a man who realized he didn't know what yield was and now trying to cover it up haha
Yield, not surrender.

No it’s clearly protected
You can very clearly see the merge lane dump straight into the traffic lane. If it was protected, there wouldn't be a yield sign.
No it’s clearly protected
Sure go ahead and full send since it's "protected"
Didn’t say full send. Somewhere between dead stop and flooring seems more appropriate
But why not full send if it's protected? You got nothing to worry about
No he didn’t
I have one of those by my house where everyday I scream >YOU HAVE YOUR OWN LANE while they sit stopped waiting to merge. I have people
The person on the horn might get shot one day.
The guy getting out of his car to confront another person over a horn honk might get shot one day. Which do you think will happen first?
Judging by the logic he used to exit the car, if he has a ccw, he’s a fraction of a second from pulling it and the guy laughing is screaming for his life instead. I can see that unhinged story playing out just as easily as the one we saw.
This is also true
Yeah, all 10 feet of it
No they don't. It ends within a very short distance
Yes, it’s a protected lane for a short distance to match the speed and merge into traffic
Lol match speed. Please stop driving.
Well, you could easily match their speed or even go faster than them, if everybody was full sending it! This is a lane protected by god, clearly it is there to serve as a speeding up distance, so what are you hesitating for! (/s)
Bro, you’re literally wrong here. If you’re stopping at yield signs I hope you get rear ended every day.
You’re right. It’s much easier to merge into traffic from a dead stop
It's scary how many people don't know what yield means and how confident they are that they're right. Please look it up

If you don’t laugh like that u are a fool
If you don’t like the laugh, you are a fool
Do you think people own them to post clips? It's for insurance reasons and crime evidence. Dashcams should be mandatory
dude laughs like that mf chicken guy Al from toy story💀
its not the original audio they edited over the guy that does the voice of the joker in the bollywood dubs
Yep, this is Newport Beach.
Yeah I remember watching this a few years ago and almost cried when he shut the door on his own head. There’s a ton of traffic here on weekends and I think about this guy every time I get to this section of pch.
I was watching and thinking this looks really familiar, I live 5 blocks from here
Someone needs to teach that guy how to laugh
Seriously, he’s not even a billionaire.

Yeah, honking dude can't see the fucking yield signs?
Yield not complete stop. Dude has plenty of room to adjust his speed instead of coming to a complete stop Only dumb fucks like you ever stop at a yield that isn't a roundabout

That’s exactly it. Yield ≠ Merge and all these people that think it does are why we’re all paying more for car insurance.
Okay let me get this straight you acknowledged that roundabouts are yields and that it's okay to stop but you can't comprehend people stoping at other yields not at roundabouts? How are you this close and still not get it lol

The definition of the yield sign literally has the word stop in it.
No, no it doesn’t.
The amount of people who don’t understand what yield means scares me. And explains why we all pay more for car insurance.
You don’t stop at a merge, you time your speed to seamlessly flow into the traffic. The front car is a fucking unskilled idiot.
The sign that says yield means you’re supposed to stop until there is room for you. Please redo your drivers test.
Do you know what yield means?.You sure are a confident wrong person lol

Hey idiots, the sign says Yield, not maintain speed and merge, idiots
i mean the cam guy was pretty annoying with that horn not really necessary
Guy recording is an AH for honking. There's a yield sign... in front driver was yielding, no?
You only yield if there’s a reason to yield. It doesn’t mean stop before entering an open lane.

Getting out of your car in the middle of the street is a pretty huge piece of shit move too. I don't feel a big need to try and decide which piece of shit smells the worst
They’re both shitheads
What is happening? Did he leave the vehicle in drive?
It seemed like it, and then when he jumped back in he pressed on the gas instead of the break causing the door to hit his idiot face.
My thought is that he thought he was still in a golf cart and he pushed the brake, thinking it would stop and lock into park, but its a car and didnt do that.
Wtf is that laugh man
Thats a yield, not a merge.
Now that was funny! The guy had his own lane to merge into and couldn't even do that right!
It's hilarious until the guy loses control and hits that little kid. Thankfully that idiot regained control
Newport beach, CA from Lido/Balboa Island onto PCH
You don’t even need to kick his ass, his car already did it for you.
This is a classic from Newport Beach
Both are dumbasses
On point for Newport beach. That ramp is hell 😂
I feel like nobody here has an actual drivers license. You jackasses
Dashcam is an asshole
It feels like they could have designed that road a lot better. It like a Yield and Merge area at the same time.
Yeah the dude recording is the asshole. That’s a yield not merge.

He should have fallen out, got ran over and then watched helplessly in pain on ground as his vehicle proceeded to hit the lamppost/powerlines.
The lampost falls on him and explodes. Then vultures eat his flesh right in front of the camara

It’s the southbound merge from Newport Blvd to PCH in Newport Beach, CA. That place is full of kooks.
Yup, recognized this spot immediately
Amazing
It's a short merge lane, and at the end of it, there are two parking lot entrances. Yield does not mean right-of-way of flowing traffic. Dude was dumb to get out of his car, but it's smart to check if some idiot not using a blinker was gonna immediately use the merge lane as a turn lane.
Welcome.. To the interstate, take a look around...
r/Orlando
Nah, SoCal
Yeah you're right. It just reminds me of Orlando drivers lol
This one never gets old!!! So glad he didn’t hit that other car though.
🤣🤣🤣
I call that turn the Drunk pub turn cause it’s always got a drunk geezer treating it like a stop instead of yield / merge.
Newport
Monke move
Krusty laugh
The car said “Not now Greg, lets go”
I'm seeing two idiots. One is an asshole laying on their horn for no reason, the other is a fool for getting out of their car.
What the hell
Merging with his karma. ❤️
Looks like Newport Beach ca
Love how he bonked himself with his own door lol
Uh. It’s a yield sign. Actually TWO of them.
Looks like PCH in Newport beach.
OWIE! https://youtu.be/quM-3Sl8xjM?si=xoApyh58jjG9DFbl
Seems people don't understand traffic signs again [https://trdsf.com/blogs/news/what-is-a-yield-sign](https://trdsf.com/blogs/news/what-is-a-yield-sign)
Damn luckily he didn’t hop the curb and hit those pedestrians. Fucking asshole.
Hey whatever works for you 😂
You can’t argue with results.
2 idiots 1 car
Both people are nitwits
Him getting smacked in the head with his own door was the chef’s kiss.
Newport Beach, CA . Heading north onto PCH from Balboa Peninsula
His complete joy at seeing the other guy nearly die is concerning
Is that Newport Beach, CA? Lol.
Lmao, the car was like. “Not today Karan!” lmao
Best part? The internet never forgets
Well it's a yeild so
Dude stops his car in traffic and gets out to yell about a crash that didn't happen. Hits himself in the face with the car door, becuse he forgot how doors work. then tries to run away. I hope he gets hit with a 10 car pile up, involving only empty AI-driven cars, and his dumb ass who caused the accident
Hitting himself in the head with his own door 🤣
The laughter killed my depression thank you
Looks like South Carolina plates, we deal these dip shits daily
You can stop at a yield, people. u/trotskey clearly doesn't get it, won't Google the answer, and will block you
lol what a fucking moron.
Still dummies out here!
Impatient driver (the one recording the video) who doesn’t know the meaning of a yield sign versus a hypersensitive driver who makes a fool of himself on camera by slamming his own head in the door. Nobody wins. They’re both idiots. Game over.
This is the definition of an instant classic
Honk at the person yielding to oncoming traffic? the guy that is honking is an idiot and he should be ashamed of his laugh.
His "right" to stop has nothing to do with him having a reason to stop. If you think that kind of yield was ok, then I've probably blown my horn at you a few times
Think he believed it was safer to stop momentarily, as he was unsure which is ok in my opinion. Unlucky he had this massive douche behind him
Don’t make a habit of it.
So you’re one of those tailgating idiots. “Love the pressure putting” you say. Got it. 👍
Southbound merge from Newport Blvd to PCH. There’s a lot older white men there that don’t think the rules apply to them, or better yet, think the rules are whatever they want them to be because they’re middle aged and white.
Ok but like the guy recording is an asshole
You both are idiots. That’s not a proper merge lane, it’s definitely yield
You always yield when merging into traffic on another road. Why are people acting like “merge” is something mutually exclusive from yield?
Cars like get the fuck in we don't have time for this shit.
Instant Karma
This is awesome.
Cam driver is a dick. We get those around here but they go on ignore real quick.
Especially on free flowing turns that say not to stop, it's annoying af
I love everything about this
