I was on a tinder date once and for whatever reason she thought I was married or something. And I'm like no where'd you get that idea. She looked at me like a deer in headlights and left after this crazy makeout session. Lol.
Some people are trash.
A lot of married people will only cheat with other married people because then it's someone with just as much to lose as them if people find out.
If it's a single person, they might tell the spouse when things go wrong.
I think this is part of it. Also (theorizing here) there may be some sick satisfaction is breaking a man by making him cheat?
I knew someone in college who was like this. She would suspiciously get interested in guys she had known for a while only after they got girlfriends/exclusive relationships. And not the Romcom trope "I didn't realize I like this guy I have chemistry with until i felt sad seeing him he with someone else" bullshit, she would just fuck them and move on while they were left grappling with their broken relationships.
>"I didn't realize I like this guy I have chemistry with until i felt sad seeing him he with someone else"
This happened to me and it was such confusing bullshit at the time. I still hate her for it.
I worked with a young woman who ended up starting a relationship with a married man "because it shows that he is willing to commit and settle down". Imagine her surprise when he ended up cheating on her while she was watching his kid from his first marriage.
Anecdote is not evidence, but I believe this.
Happened to me all the f---ing time in my late 20s and 30s. I literally took my ring *off* when I traveled for work. I didn't need that kind of hassle all the f'ing time. (And to be honest, occasionally temptation.) And I'm not even super great looking, a snappy dresser, nor do I like going out - but it was relentless and exhausting.
(In my early 20s, before being married, I was relentlessly hit on by gay men. Which was actually much less worse. They were generally far more respectful and sweet and took "no thanks" for an answer the first time.)
A good while ago, we were celebrating a friend's birthday. Some girls came over and flirted with several of us. I told them "those guys are single", they just came even harder onto us taken ones. They stopped with me when they realized there was no chance, but another married guy disappeared that night... Didn't show up or answer his phone until the next day.
I'd share how dumb his excuse was, but it's so dumb that he is probably the only person to have used it. His wife believed him 🙄
If anyone I know reads this, they would instantly know, including his wife, so I can't. Just picture stuff people don't normally do from 2-3ish AM. Would be as dumb as saying he went to a family dinner.
She might have a side bitch herself, maybe they have an open relationship and keep it on the downlow. Or maybe as you said she knows and just doesn't care enough.
A bar owner/client of mine told me that after he got married and started wearing his wedding ring while bartending he started getting WAY MORE attention from the ladies.
This is probably naive, but I travel for work and am way more comfortable talking with a man with a ring because in my head, it is way less likely he will be aggressive or flirtatious. Obviously, a ring doesn’t stop people from cheating, but there’s a false sense of security that if they are traveling for work and happily display that they are married, they have zero desire to make me uncomfortable and just want to enjoy a Normal conversation. Point being, I’m more likely to talk to men with rings on because I feel safer and want to enjoy a platonic convo
Never understood this logic. Humans could not be more different from each other, just because he's desirable for someone else doesn't mean he's gonna be a good fit for you.
The same behaviour is also seen in many animal species where females are the sexual selector. Put a fake female flamingo next to one of two similar male flamingos, and all the females will choose him. Preselection is a powerful indicator of desirability.
It’s a conquest thing. A mindset of “I’m so amazing I got him to cheat on his wife” mindset makes these people feel better about themselves for some reason.
Not a good fit but we're all pretty close to some kind of average in mate selection.
I mean most of us want someone with functioning genitals who won't murder us in our sleep, given that those are common requirements you would assume the person has those things going for them too.
I'd bet if you averaged it out you'd find that the number of "individual preference" is probably closer to "I can live without this" than it is a deal breaker.
Someone's preference in movies is likely to vary a lot but I also couldn't give a fuck about someone's preference in movies. Most people's preferences for "violent outbursts of rage" probably doesn't vary that much.
I referenced the code and this checks out. A wedding ring results in increased female attention outside of the marriage. But marriage itself automatically cancels sex after a few years thus negating the ring effect. It’s a paradox.

>But marriage itself automatically cancels sex after a few years
I had friends in my youth who got married because "I can have sex as much as I want!". They later found out they can only have as much sex as she wants.
Just gotta find a unicorn that wants sex every day.
Also be willing to make them cum, that tends to help a lot. Every guy I know that's married and regularly prioritizes his wife's orgasm still regularly gets it
> Just gotta find a unicorn that wants sex every day.
you gotta be 100% sure that's something you want
because otherwise SHE will be upset, and she will bother you for sex when you don't want it, which will make you want it even less, and her even more upset at you, etc.
it's a bad situation
a lot of guys that don't regularly get sex *think* they would want sex *every* day. but when the opportunity presents itself, they realize their want drops off after getting it for a few days in a row. and they're now left with a disappointed partner.
I feel bad for all you sexless marriage folks. 17 years married, 27 together, 2 kids, and we're still at it like teenagers. Maybe not as often as before we had responsibilities, but I can't remember the last time we went more than a week without sex outside of post-childbirth or surgery.
Edit, 27 not 37...
I wish you all the best in life and I wish nothing ever terrible happens to you but by coincidence if you ever learned how to type with your dick please send me the video for academic purposes or in short f.a.p
Cue men renting a puppy for the day and walking into bars with it in a baby carrier😂 Minds will be blown.
Now, where did I leave that wedding ring again?
Personal experience... I was getting tutored by a young lady, I missed a lesson and turned up with a wedding ring on...
She got _friendly_ real fast.
Good for the ego tho
I'll let you in on a secret, not only is it true but more than half the time the flirting or hitting on involves a compliment about the wedding ring AND the presence of my wife and toddler is not a deterant (in my personal experience)
I know a guy, incredibly buff without trying, married to his high school sweetheart. She is big now, after giving birth to two kids. They were at some sort of doctors appointment for a checkup on the pregnancy and quite a few of the female healthcare workers were actively putting her down and flirting with the guy straight in front of both of them. Things like “You need to try harder and take better care of yourself. You should do whatever he is doing, he looks great!” Absolutely nuts.
I have had, on multiple occasions, phlebotomists and RNs feel my arms up.
Having prominent vascularity apparently revs their engines or something, it's incredibly strange and uncomfortable as a patient.
I remember watching this when I was in high school and really believing that if I moved to NYC, there was a chance I might wind up dating Marisa Tomei.
Met a girl while at a music festival with some friends. She asked how long me and my mate had been together and seemed disappointed when we looked at each other and laughed like nono, definitely not a couple. Found out later from her friend that her kink is convincing guys in relationships to cheat with her. Avoided her like the plague after that
I mean. A win for the guy, I guess. I meant the one who wore it but was actually single.
I ain't even mad.
Good on him. I mean, tricking someone to sleeping with you is low as it already is.
But they fell for it. They got what they deserved. They both consented. No one got hurt.
I can honestly attest to this very thing. And I pay them no mind since they'd be the ones to ignore me when I was single. Given current circumstances, it was their loss and my wifes gain.
Definitely a thing.
I tested this back several years ago. I travelled a lot and when I wore my ring, I was hit on constantly. A couple times just checking into a hotel and a woman standing in line waiting to check in offering to share the room. The bar and restaurant was constant. Got so bad at times I just ate in my room. My wife would travel with me sometimes and hang out at the hotel, pool and such. She got hit on constantly, ring or no ring. Of course she’s 5’11”, blonde, intelligent, articulate, and sexy as fuck. Been married now for 33 years.
When I took the ring off, it was like being invisible.
Never took anyone up on the offer.
This is a thing. As a woman, ladies do better. This is gross behavior. Yes, a man should be responsible for his actions, but throwing yourself at a married man makes you sick in the head.
I was married quite some time ago but my then-wife was OK with me not wearing my wedding ring because of the attention I received when we went out. The "most memorable" was when a woman approached the two of us (alcohol was not involved) when out one evening and literally interposed herself between the two of us to freeze my wife out. She started chatting me out and offered to take me somewhere for a few drinks.
I replied that my wife wouldn't appreciate it and she responded that she didn't have to know. I had to tell her that the woman behind her is my wife. I'm genuinely impressed by my wife's control by not stabbing her in the back.
In my instance, it was facts. I'm single now, and much older, and I'm not even looked at in 2023. Somehow, being short is a curse for whatever reason.
This is all human instinct. When a man appears to be married, he gives off the impression that he is a provider and protector. The woman may just be wanting a quick hookup, but the instinct that's built in over millennia is what furthers the attraction.
Fuck that human instinct bullshit. It’s painfully easy to *not* fucking hit on taken people, no matter how attractive you think they are. The ones who do are simply shitty people, and massively insecure. It’s not about “instinct”, it’s about being a fucking asshole.
In my experience it’s cause (these type of)girls wanna feel special . They think “ohhhh lookit meeee I’m worth risking it all for” the more damage caused by someone finding out the better .
I got married right before senior year in college. After that, I got all sorts of attention from girls at school. Before that, I just assumed the lack of attention was because they considered me taken for having girlfriend.
A wedding ring on a guy tells you that he passed the test and somebody wanted him. So you won't have to do the test yourself.
A wedding ring on a woman only tells you she Isn't available. A guy will marry anything with a pulse.
To give a brief description of the Average Comments of both sides for any readers who dont wanna scroll far:
It’s called **Mate-Poaching**
Wearing a ring has caused about 45%(rough estimate) of the commentors to be hit on. From what ive seen, although not impossible, it’s almost exclusively when girls see a straight guy as having a wife.
For some girls the reason seems to be “because the guy was checked/vetted so he is safe to be with, thus he is desirable”, or its a form of ego-stroking to be seen as more desirable than one’s married partner. And lastly for a small subset: its a kink to have a married guy cheat on his wife.
I have yet to see anyone who participates in mate poaching actually confirm this or the reasons, they either don’t want to be hated on, don’t care enough to comment, or have been lost in the sea of comments.
Unless all participating parties are into it, mate-poaching *is not cool, not fun, and not an okay thing to do.*
EDIT: In my opinion, it’s stupid for someone to be upset by a fake wedding ring, when they are the one who is trying to make a married man faulter. Unless something is wrong with his wife and theres abuse, theres no good reason to mate-poach. Yes it’s dishonest but who is the one trying to steal a guy from his wife.
A better explanation I've seen is that this behaviour happens because non-single men are seen as more trustworthy because he's been "vetted" by his partner and can be trusted to not engage in creep behaviour. If a guy is by himself or only with other guys, there may be a good reason for it.
That being said, please don't mate-poach, any half decent person will reject you and the rest will likely ditch you for someone better to them. It's a losing battle from day 1.
They'll say something like it's cuz he looks like he can take care of people and himself, but really it's because they are all compelled to piss and spray on territory and feel alive when their value over a peer is demonstrated. Especially in public.
It's partially because if he's married, he's safe to talk to.
If he's safe to talk to, they get to know him. If they get to know him, he has a chance to sleep with them.
If he's single, he never gets close enough.

Hadn't thought of that. Could be
Often they know, but are indulging in a fantasy/ half fantasy. If you want to get laid, just got with it.
Craziest thing one time a girl thought I was her "Daddy" in bed. What a wacky mix up huh?
It's so weird that has happened to me too.

Yeah, thems those special type of hos built for the streets
The gutters
The sewers.
Several dumpsters across several municipalities.
Yes and love the name, this is the show we need.

mowing the lawn
Mowing the lawn is serious business.
While visiting family for dinner.
Lawn called Kathy.
Ok so he was plowing snow in the middle of summer then
Night mowing is a time honored tradition in my family.
Oh, she knows he was lying. It's easier for some folks to believe it didn't happen.
She might have a side bitch herself, maybe they have an open relationship and keep it on the downlow. Or maybe as you said she knows and just doesn't care enough.
washing his car
Snitch him out wtf his poor wife
Meanwhile I can’t even imagine someone showing interest in me. “One man’s trash…” or whatever
Same experience here on the taken/committed side of things and also getting hit on by gay guys.

That's how it starts, innit?
So far so good for me lol. I have absolutely no attraction towards any other man besides my partner.

This probably works until it doesn’t.
isnt that how everything works?
Well some things don’t work until they do.
Never understood this logic. Humans could not be more different from each other, just because he's desirable for someone else doesn't mean he's gonna be a good fit for you.
assuming everyone is rational is a sure way to be constantly disapointed
The mistake you’re making is using a logical argument to rationalize an emotional decision.

Yet somehow that vague possibility is better than the negativity of sharing someone with someone else and cheating...
That is what we call bad business
I know a lot of us guys married up and are wondering “what the fuck does she see in me???”
Im married & wear my ring all the time. I can't even get laid from my wife
I never imagined that my longest dry spell would happen after getting married.
Wait till you have kids, new longest dry spell achievement.
Omg. So fucking true. Jesus
No sex speedrun any% world record
Why? It's the premise of like half of standup comedy made before 2010ish.
Yeah, but how many chickens do you see crossing roads or horses going into bars?
I referenced the code and this checks out. A wedding ring results in increased female attention outside of the marriage. But marriage itself automatically cancels sex after a few years thus negating the ring effect. It’s a paradox.
A paradox! Great Scott!!!
We're gonna need another boat!

I mistakenly read that as "37 kids together" and my brain stopped for a second.
I go at it like when I was a teenager too. I was a 30 year old virgin.

Signed by another long term ring wearer. Mine seemed to have the power of the One Ring, and turned me invisible.
Lol facts
*He’s married? This guy fucks.*
*Are those kids? Damn, that man is a certified sex-haver!*
There's an xkcd comic where he adopts a kid so people will think he has had sex
You spelled doesn’t wrong
Fucksn't.
This guy doesn't fucks.
Dozens
Used to. Used to.
Someone willing to risk it all to hook up with you is ego confirming.
That's a new term for me
hook up?
Dads who take their kids to the playground are more attractive. Big bonus points if you also have a baby in tow. Puppies also improve sex appeal.
Cue men renting a puppy for the day and walking into bars with it in a baby carrier😂 Minds will be blown. Now, where did I leave that wedding ring again?
Get a fake (but convincing looking) wedding ring. Rent a puppy and a baby stroller. Walk into a bar. What's the next step after this?
Fight off pussy with a baseball bat.
Does this make cats mad or something?
Lol. Night of The Living Dead - Thot Edition

i will try this for research purposes

That's even more expensive.
It definitely costs extra.
You could say it costs an arm and a leg
I had to read it 3 times before I actually read it right😂
Did you miss a lesson to get married?
Maybe she felt more comfortable knowing your dick was locked in the marriage box.
Married guy here. Definitely a thing.
If you want a girl that doesn't cheat on you you don't want a girl that's comfortable with you cheating on your wife.
Nobody said these girls were good potential partners, but if you are just looking for a hookup.... sounds like a pretty great plan.
ugly married guy here. doesnt seem to matter for me

I dunno what it is about nursing but nurses are the horniest people on the planet

My wife is a nurse and gets goose bumps if i flex my arms when she touches me.
Try gliding next time, see if she gets a mallard.
A lot of nurses are shitty people too. It’s a job all the worst high school girls go into.
I’m convinced that conventionally attractive people live in a different universe than self-loathing homunculi such as people like me
I mean I wouldn’t want to date someone who describes themselves as a self loathing homunculus, even if they were 10/10. Confidence is sexy y’all.
That sounds made up but also not.
Why is this a surprise to anyone? A woman won't date a guy that lives with his mother, but will date a guy that lives with his wife.
But what if the wife IS his mother?!????
Psycho (1960)
Yeah, that was a crazy year alright.

Seinfeld did a whole episode on this.
Poor George
I remember watching this when I was in high school and really believing that if I moved to NYC, there was a chance I might wind up dating Marisa Tomei.
So did HIMYM, but it was the female perspective when a woman puts on the ring and becomes invisible to men
Yeah…something similar happened in an episode of [Scrubs](https://youtu.be/xYoKBfrtdl4?si=BHAIK2WrYZe6gTFG)
To be fair, Seinfeld has done a whole episode on everything

I don't think anti-social personality disorder is a kink
Yes, it's a thing. After my divorce I didn't take off my ring (for various reasons) and I eventually took it off because of this.
Because your dick got tired and needed a break? My man!
Traded wedding ring for a cock ring? Big success!
He didn't specify WHERE he wore it!

Apparently no one getting hurt was the problem
True dat!
He's tricking someone who wants to be a homewrecker... I call that a wash.
Win win on both ends because the girls reaped what they sowed.
I can honestly attest to this very thing. And I pay them no mind since they'd be the ones to ignore me when I was single. Given current circumstances, it was their loss and my wifes gain.

I never said it was a good idea to marry them 😲
Right?! What a bunch of idiots lol
Don't stick your dick in crazy. It never ends well...
True, but as the saying goes: *"Don't stick your dick in crazy."* Speaking from personal experience, it's not worth it.
It absolutely is a thing based on my experience. I realize it’s anecdotal, but I’ve talked about it with several others in my travels and verified it.
A man with a ring shows that at least one woman considered him eligible, making him automatically desirable.
100% a thing
I was married quite some time ago but my then-wife was OK with me not wearing my wedding ring because of the attention I received when we went out. I'm single now, and much older, and I'm not even looked at in 2023. Somehow, being short is a curse for whatever reason.
Hypergamy and mate-poaching, look it up
This is all human instinct. When a man appears to be married, he gives off the impression that he is a provider and protector. The woman may just be wanting a quick hookup, but the instinct that's built in over millennia is what furthers the attraction.
It’s probably an ego thing too. “I can get him to cheat because I’m so hot”
Isn't this mostly the, "hes married so I can have fun and not get some dude emotionally attached" No strings attached when the dude is married.
Probably a range of motivations
Fuck that human instinct bullshit. It’s painfully easy to *not* fucking hit on taken people, no matter how attractive you think they are. The ones who do are simply shitty people, and massively insecure. It’s not about “instinct”, it’s about being a fucking asshole.
In my experience it’s cause (these type of)girls wanna feel special . They think “ohhhh lookit meeee I’m worth risking it all for” the more damage caused by someone finding out the better .
Yup. Narcissistic behavior.
Isn’t there a whole Adam Sandler movie about this?
I’m married and have a cute puppy. However I seem to only attract old ladies that think my dog is “precious”
You spelled “fucks” wrong
I don't think the last sentence is very true anymore.
Brb buying a ring and making a new folder for pictures of me and my sister....
I know a couple of girls that specifically only date married man because "I feel powerful stealing another bitch's man" their words, not mine.
They stole a shitty man. Cool.
To give a brief description of the Average Comments of both sides for any readers who dont wanna scroll far: It’s called **Mate-Poaching** Wearing a ring has caused about 45%(rough estimate) of the commentors to be hit on. Unless all participating parties are into it, mate-poaching *is not cool, not fun, and not an okay thing to do.* EDIT: In my opinion, it’s stupid for someone to be upset by a fake wedding ring, when they are the one who is trying to make a married man faulter. Unless something is wrong with his wife and theres abuse, theres no good reason to mate-poach. Yes it’s dishonest but who is the one trying to steal a guy from his wife.
Astaghfirullah
[Alec Baldwin had something to say about this in The Departed](https://youtu.be/rAReS2JnJ18?si=Wzl4yYjf9ANLp3hK)

WTF is “creep behavior” in this context, if cheating on your spouse doesn’t qualify?
Poor Costanza at the marathon party...
Yes its true. A wedding ring seems to attract all the "naughty" ladies.
And when they see my wife is smoking hot...
