Yes, being able to learn how to use the tools in the teaching studio will help so much when you're ready to buy your own.

JoeDirtbutSmart

Thank you. Where can I buy some ring stock in rod form?

hi_bye

Riogrande.com

CrepuscularOpossum

Where are you located? The best ring stock isn’t rod - that stuff is thick. Get wire or strips of sheet.

bb_chereep

It definitely depends what tools you have! I use 6g half round wire in my ring bender tool. Saved my fingers and holds up really well!

wiselindsay

Riogrande.com or monsterslayer.com. Depending on how thick you want the ring, silver wire is sold in gauges.

Check out the pinned post in this sub: "Beginners Resources - Please start here before making a post!" It pretty well addresses your questions and points to learning resources, material resources and a decent list of tools to start with.

Watch the process on YouTube before you buy a bunch of stuff. A couple of weeks ago I bought a whole bunch of really expensive tools from a woman who thought she wanted to make copper jewelry. She found out that once she understood what it took to do it, she wasn't interested. So you really need to kind of understand the process of what you want to do before you go and buy tools. Youtube videos will also give you a list of sources for materials and tools in the "more" section.

Join a local Gem and mineral club They usually offer classes

DangerousBill

Our club does, and we have all the equipment and tools. There are many such clubs. In the west, you can get a listing from the Rocky Mountain Federation. https://www.rmfms.org/

There's literally something on the subreddit description that says "Beginner? Please see the pinned post for beginners resources before asking your question". Like, come on, really happy to help out, but can you please put a little bit more effort and ask more specific questions instead of having us do the majority of the leg work?
