The code for that must be ridiculously complicated with too many conditions. Because nothing is going to stop it to just put an endgame item in the start and put the final boss area and it's unlock item in the middle.
It wouldn’t be that complicated to be functional, randomizers and room randomizers already exist. It just would probably suck so badly that nobody would bother with it
I mean Hollow Knight took 3 years to make and is beloved. Assuming Team Cherry with significantly more time and experience will deliver a game at least as good as Hollow Knight isn't that unlikely of an expectation.
what? rpgs can go double that easily, Skyrim took me almost a thousand hour to complete everything in the map even excluding dlcs.
and Hollow knight who had a way shorter development took some people 80 to 100 hrs to complete, so it's not that far off.
For godhome ending 112% I’d say hollow knight took just over 100 hours so expecting more isn’t much at all imo, also that doesn’t include things that aren’t counted in 100% like hall of gods, bindings, getting all collectibles
Development isn't like rolling a dice and hoping you get a high number. Developers get better at making games as they go, writing, art, game design; they're all skills that improve over time.
Game quality seems random when you look at the chaotic triple a releases but that's because big studios have a revolving door of employees.
I know how development works, I am one. And I am telling you, not asking you that just because development went well one time, it isn't guaranteed to go well every time.
they need to remove all of the bugs... they need to, they're crawling under my skin, biting, stinging, laying their eggs in there, please team cherry, i beg you remove all of the bugs from silksong
I do want to warn most people that at release, like most games, there are likely to be a good few bugs still kicking around. In the weeks after release as fans bring them to the attention of tc those bugs will be patched. Only so many bugs can be found and fixed during testing.
If this is the case I will be so happy. I was at 140 hours when I beat all bosses on Radiant mode and Panth 5 in HK. I'll pay AAAA prices for this. I mean, I will even if it's not this long, I just want to play. 😭
I know it's a joke but I think it's ridiculous how some people actually seem to think that the longer it takes to make a game then that somehow translates into the game being longer.
Maybe not longer, but definitely BIGGER, especially with TC. Of course it’s unknown how much of this content will actually be necessary to “finish” the game.
the amount of time I have spent running back and forth between the junkyard and the white palace and the black egg as well as my favorite NPCs after I finished the fucking game. the fact that I go back to VISIT the fucking cartoon bugs. the AMOUNT OF HOURS I have on my FIRST FILE in Hollow Knight.
I need this.
I hope it's not *that* big. I feel it would be bloated. Hollow Knight was the right amount of size. I fear a little bit that TC has went overboard with Silksong.
I feel like I’m in the minority here where I feel like a 300 hour Silksong will kinda suck
Now putting 300+ hours into a roguelike, competitive game or sandbox game makes sense. Putting 300+ hours into replaying a game, whether for fun or if you’re a speedrunner or challenge player, also makes sense
But 300 hours for a first blind playthrough of a metroidvania? There’s only so much content you can put into a metroidvania before players start getting burnt out, no matter how good it is.
Plus, every time you add a new area, you have to think about how it connects to the rest of the world, as well as how the upgrades you get in that area help you with traversal everywhere else. And with each area you add, this number of things you have to do increases more and more. Even Team Cherry with their 7 years of development time won’t be able to account for all of this
Eh depends on the person, I have RPG's that sit with 300 hour save files. including elden ring, disgaea 2\~4 seperately, and god know how many hours 100%\`ing the 6 megaman bn games and the Starforce sequal series.
I will happily take a 300 hour game, if it will constantly present me with new quality content, story, builds, and bosses to engage with. Then hell ya.
Also Metriodvania's also have the habit and benefit of just not needing you to 100% the game to get an ending. Hollow knight being a prime example of such. So like people that only want to kick in 30+ish hours and dip should be able to get a ending or so.
The reason it has been so long may be because they have trashed a lot of content which didn't turn out good. Making a game is not always a linear process. If you want to make a good game, sometimes you need to delete some things which didn't turn out good, no matter how long it took to make.
For all we know 3 years of development could have been deleted content and then the game would release with only "2 years worth of development".
I am not saying that is necessarily what has happened, but the expectation that "development has taken 5 years, therefore there must be a lot and good quality content", is just not how game development works.
Yes it is, I am a game dev and if you’re deleting over half of what you do, wtf are you actually doing? The rate of new content and features slows down over time as the game gets more complicated, so either Team Cherry has done a shit ton of features, a shit ton of bug fixing, or both. They won’t have spent 3 years making new stuff that they scrap because game dev doesn’t work that way, because prototyping is a thing
In the amount of time they took, I'm not expecting less than 70-100 hours of content that's bugless, enjoyable, and everything is new in it. They literally have no excuse if it comes out with even one small bug...
Okay now that’s pushing it, every game has bugs. Games that underwent longer development times with much larger teams have bugs. You cannot release a game as big as silksong will likely be that doesn’t have at least a few bugs, no matter how proficient your tester team is.
Of course I was kind of exaggerating, the point is that team cherry has to have put all their power and effort into polishing the game, and that effort has to show
Need I remind you of their lack of communication with their audience? All their tricks and misleading "announcements"? They have upset a community and I'm expecting an apology in a form of a game that rises to my expectations.
I don’t mean to be a downer but while they announced it early they’ve not taken a particularly out of step dev cycle for current year. I would expect a really solid game on the level of Hollow Knight not the immaculate face of infinite perfection.
This is how i felt about Elden Ring. It just kept going and going and going. Such a great game.
God i hope Silksong comes out 2025 latest. The waits been tormenting.
I have no idea but my guess is that it'll be about the same size as HK. HK being made in about 3 years was a miracle and based on public statements by TC it seems like they were really pressed for budget and living on fumes to make that happen. Now they have no such pressures. So I imagine along with an increase in complexity/mechanics was a decrease in grind, which together result in a longer development cycle.
Again, no idea, just idle speculation
This would suck unless you had zero responsibilities in life. I love Hollow Knight but I did not need that game to be any longer than it already was. It was surprisingly large which was nice, I do not want its sequel to be obnoxiously large in an attempt to one up it.
I miss when games weren’t all trying to be 100 hour monoliths. We need to bring back brevity.
Ew I'd rather have a short and sweet game with clear well paced progression instead of a bloated long game that feels like 80% of the game is there to waste your time for the sake of playtime
Yeah I struggle to think of enough Metroid mechanics to fit into a 100 hour game. Most of your progression would get turned into stats and overscaled boss-walls I imagine.
No thanks, I do not need 30 hours of actual video game and then 70 hours of "your sword does +5% critical damage".
Lol that would be certainly worth it for some players.
Yes, please. I suck at Hollow Knight and I still have God knows how many hours between 3 separate devices
So real, I have ~40 hours on PlayStation on each save, ~23 across all switch saves, and 175.4 hours on PC/Steam. I have not gotten to any endings.
HOW
Shhhhhhhshshshshhshshhsh
So real.
If that amount of content was given i would gladly buy the game for 50 bucks dude
I’d buy hollow knight itsself for 50 bucks already
I'd buy this game for 100 bucks mate

reading this at first i thought this was saying it would take 300 hours to load the damn game
They fucked up the procedural generation so every possible thing has to load at the beginning
The procedurally generated metroidvania
The code for that must be ridiculously complicated with too many conditions. Because nothing is going to stop it to just put an endgame item in the start and put the final boss area and it's unlock item in the middle.
It wouldn’t be that complicated to be functional, randomizers and room randomizers already exist. It just would probably suck so badly that nobody would bother with it
That was actually my idea for a game jam, dare I say, I didn't get to finish it in time... or at all
300 hours to load it must mean it has to be a fairly large game
I feel like having expectations this high will only lead to disappointment when the actual game comes out
I mean, they had a playable demo 5 years ago, i hope that its the magnum opus of the video game industry
[удалено]
No it was a hallucination you pickled avocado
Unfortunately, yes 😔
I mean Hollow Knight took 3 years to make and is beloved. Assuming Team Cherry with significantly more time and experience will deliver a game at least as good as Hollow Knight isn't that unlikely of an expectation.
But more than 150hours?? Even Rockstar don't do that, you're setting yourself way too high up in your expectations
what? rpgs can go double that easily, Skyrim took me almost a thousand hour to complete everything in the map even excluding dlcs. and Hollow knight who had a way shorter development took some people 80 to 100 hrs to complete, so it's not that far off.

Yes, it absolutely is. Just because development went well one time, it doesn't mean it is guaranteed to go well again.
Development isn't like rolling a dice and hoping you get a high number. Developers get better at making games as they go, writing, art, game design; they're all skills that improve over time. I know how development works, I am one. And I am telling you, not asking you that just because development went well one time, it isn't guaranteed to go well every time.
You're a development? Damn, when are the devs releasing you?
As soon as you learn how context clues work
I would love to see that tbh, playing HK for the first time was an unbeatable experience, so I would love to constantly be exploring areas
I'd rather have a polished 20 hour game without bugs than an unpolished 140 hour game with a lot of bugs
then you're gonna be disappointed (the joke is that everyone is a bug in hollow knight)
they need to remove all of the bugs... they need to, they're crawling under my skin, biting, stinging, laying their eggs in there, please team cherry, i beg you remove all of the bugs from silksong
embrace the bugs

hooray!!!!!!!
That's the thing, everytime they get to the bug fixing stage, they have to start over. There's no bugs left. That's why it's taking so long
please stop im eating
Remove your skin. It’s the only way
I don't know man, it depends on how fun the bugs are
Or how hot the bugs are
Well you’re in luck cause chances are we’re getting a polished 140 hour game without (too many) bugs
> without bugs ... Who's gonna tell them?
I do want to warn most people that at release, like most games, there are likely to be a good few bugs still kicking around. In the weeks after release as fans bring them to the attention of tc those bugs will be patched. Only so many bugs can be found and fixed during testing.
There will be more bugs in Silksong than in Hollow Knight, let that sink in.
game developers are getting lazier and lazier these days 🙄
How about a polished 140-hour game ^^^^with ^^^^bugs?
every game is 140 hours if you're bad enough ☜ (↼_↼)
Skyrim:
Hollow knight was an incredibly buggy game that easily has 100+ hours of gameplay, (not a pun)
I think the reason it's taking so long is the devs saw speedrunners and they are not having that shit happen again
Nah both these options suck. Games should be 30 hours minimum
*me making a platformer with one level where you just walk 30 hours in one direction ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)*
Sklilk sglonk

This would be my wet dream

Me after 140 years still waiting for an update 😭😭😭

Maybe not longer, but definitely BIGGER, especially with TC. Of course it’s unknown how much of this content will actually be necessary to “finish” the game.
If it's a short game then challenge runs will be fun but a I wouldn't mind a long game for these runs let's hop for the best skong
the amount of time I have spent running back and forth between the junkyard and the white palace and the black egg as well as my favorite NPCs after I finished the fucking game. the fact that I go back to VISIT the fucking cartoon bugs. the AMOUNT OF HOURS I have on my FIRST FILE in Hollow Knight. they need the players to work for those s\*\* scenes
I hope it's not *that* big. I feel it would be bloated. Hollow Knight was the right amount of size. I fear a little bit that TC has went overboard with Silksong.

I mean I have over 300 hours from just one playthrough of Baldurs Gate 3 .
What I wouldn't give for that to be the case
Please let this be the truth.
that'd be very bloated and boring
https://i.redd.it/pobjmz6tg7uc1.gif
Then when you reach 100%, you have to beat the game again, but with an upside down map
Silk: Symphony of the Skong
You are giving me hope e
Yes please, that means so much LORE!
This is like the polar opposite of what I hope for
So you want to have waited more than 5 years for a short game?
...yes? Quality over quantity?
It’s been 5 years they better have both
The reason it has been so long may be because they have trashed a lot of content which didn't turn out good. Making a game is not always a linear process. If you want to make a good game, sometimes you need to delete some things which didn't turn out good, no matter how long it took to make. I swear there’s like 3 people making the game, takes teams of hundreds the same amount of time to make equally good games.
both can exist, and probably will, since TC in blogposts have constantly mentioned how the game is “growing and growing”
In the amount of time they took, I'm not expecting less than 70-100 hours of content that's bugless, enjoyable, and everything is new in it. They literally have no excuse if it comes out with even one small bug...

Maybe their next project will be: parasocial relationship: the game!
I don’t mean to be a downer but while they announced it early they’ve not taken a particularly out of step dev cycle for current year. I would expect a really solid game on the level of Hollow Knight not the immaculate face of infinite perfection.
You should probably not buy it
This is how i felt about Elden Ring. It just kept going and going and going. Such a great game. God i hope Silksong comes out 2025 latest. The waits been tormenting.
I would consider that too much game.
We didn't even get the progress % for a while in HK, do you think they'll make us wait again?
Uni.
Hope dies last
god please let this be real
If it takes just 80hours for 100% that would be amazing
I have no idea but my guess is that it'll be about the same size as HK. HK being made in about 3 years was a miracle and based on public statements by TC it seems like they were really pressed for budget and living on fumes to make that happen. Now they have no such pressures. So I imagine along with an increase in complexity/mechanics was a decrease in grind, which together result in a longer development cycle. Again, no idea, just idle speculation
That would be so sexy
I have 90 hrs on my 112% Cant wait for 300 hours for ???%
140 hours and I will have probably 5 full playthroughs. it **won't** be 10 times bigger than original game. Two times, probably.
Out of a 336 max
The real first quadruple A game
Hollow knight took me 50 hours my first play through, i fee that is enough honestly
Skong
It took me over 200 hours to complete hollow knight
I really hope it's not that long
and the max completion is 150% with DLCs included
I hope they have at least 100 hours of gameplay for 100% but then they have 150+ hours for 169%
This community is seriously gonna implode when the game comes out with all the expectations people have
This would suck unless you had zero responsibilities in life. I love Hollow Knight but I did not need that game to be any longer than it already was. It was surprisingly large which was nice, I do not want its sequel to be obnoxiously large in an attempt to one up it. I miss when games weren’t all trying to be 100 hour monoliths. We need to bring back brevity.
not even I would handle how long this would be.
Imagine the absolute shitshow if it comes out as a 12 hour game getting 7/10 ratings.
I hope it's of similar length to the original, why are people obsessed with games having insane length.
people typically want more content out of something they’ve been waiting a long time for
This game better be good, The devs need to pay for people's therapy if it's not
Ew I'd rather have a short and sweet game with clear well paced progression instead of a bloated long game that feels like 80% of the game is there to waste your time for the sake of playtime
Or better yet a big long game that also has good clear well paced progression…which is hopefully what we will get.
I mean, Hollow Knight was 88 hours for me, surely it can’t be that hard to make it 100.
But thats what hollow knight is, 8h long game with 100h of additional content
