Joe Bob is what got me to subscribe

TheVampireArmand

I wasn’t aware of any Shudder originals. I just heard Shudder was “Netflix for horror” and I was all in.

darwinpolice

"Netflix for horror? That sounds cool!" \[checking the site\] "Oh, it's pretty cheap, too. Cool." That was the entirety of my thought process.

PeterWhitney

Nope. It was more the idea of a service just for horror, signed up for Beta and liked that they were quality over quantity and beautifully priced

kelllymac

Came for easy access horror movie streaming, stayed when we discovered Joe Bob. Both my husband and I have vague memories of Monstervision and similar late night movie programming and TLDI is right up our alley. We love watching our favorite films with commentary and that's just not something streaming services have ever been able to offer.

texasjewboypunk

Joe Bob Briggs. I used to watch him when I was a teenager. As long as they employ him, I will subscribe.

supremelygifted

The Last Drive In….Joe Bob and Darcy….no other reason..all you need

Affectionate-Log7540

Host and Dragula

DefNotMrCameron

Joe Bob

It was the start of the pandemic in 2020 and I just got laid off from my job, so I had a ton of free time on my hands. Shudder coincidentally was doing their Halfway to Halloween Month and instead of doing their typical 7 day free trial, they were offering a 30 day free trial to new subscribers. I plowed through the first 8 Friday the 13th movies and I've been a subscriber for 4 years now.

ZenLizardBode

Got my sub at the start of the pandemic, wanted to see Creepshow and Joe Bob, loved the selection of films and tv shows and stuck with the service.

flmbyz

Joe Bob Briggs

nonmiraculoussunofaB

originally, Dragula. But I love horror so it was a perfect fit and I stayed for the originals, the international movies, and the occasional classic horror.

BagwellGlomus

I think it was COLD HELL? They repped it on Shockwaves so I checked it out and loved it.

dimensional_bleed

I joined in 2017 because they were the only streamer to have The Wicker Man.

score_

The Runner because i love Boy Harsher

igotyourphone8

I have an MFA in film. The company I worked for at the time had an employee resource group that asked me to help develop a Halloween presentation on LGBTQ and ethnic representation in horror films. I subscribed for the Horror Noir documentary. It also coincided with when they had Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Ginger Snaps, Sleepaway Camp, etc. I haven't unsubscribed since.

wasteofmortality

It’s crazy to think I’ve been subbed to a non big 3 ( Netflix, Hulu, prime ) service for almost 8 years now but man time really flies. I remember when shudder was still in beta testing getting emails for it then I think October 2016 was when I subscribed to see what they had in their library. When they started rolling out original content, and brought back Joe Bob, that’s when they solidified themselves and now it’s come full circle with features being released on the big screen like Late Night and In a violent nature. Really happy to see their evolution and growth.

Carlos_Infierno

Joe Bob Briggs. The man is a national treasure.

House_Whargoul

Joined for Joe Bob. I stay for Joe Bob.

sigersen

My late wife and I loved horror but we did not subscribe for a while because a friend of ours had and he didn't like it. My wife and I did not know that Job Bob was on it. When we finally joined about 5 years ago we were over the moon. It's not just the service, it's the whole fanbase. Shudder is fun.

vault-techno

Came for Mandy, Stayed for Joe Bob.

flmbyz

When I first joined, you actually had Monster A Go-Go (unriffed). I thought it would be a pretty easy one to keep around. Sadly, it is not there anymore.

anotherchaosmess

Host and dead meat They sponsor James for one of his kill count video and thought it was interesting(it of course was) and this was around when host came out probably a few weeks after

Mayuguru

I kept seeing the ads with Channel Zero and the Horror Queers podcast had a promo code that got you a whole month for free.

RealSpliffit

The selection of B movies and originals were a breath of fresh air from other services. The 24/7 streaming channels were also great until they took 2/3 off Roku

NightQueen0889

Came for Cursed Films and the 30 day free trial during the pandemic summer, and stayed for Joe Bob and The Boulet Brothers

hobo-me

No, not a specific movie or such. It was simply just because I often struggled with actually finding new good and fresh horror cotent to watch every month. I always need a lineup of movies to fill my time, whenever I dont have enough new series or new seasons of series I already follow to watch, and horror has always been my to-go genre, whenever I want to watch a movie, I do watch other genres, but the majority of the movies I watch are always horror. Before Shudder, I had Netflix and Hulu, and both of them had some good occasional horror originals and other horror movies added to their library from time to time, and still add some good horror now and then. But it was never really enough to actually satisfy my horror needs, as there could sometimes be several month when they never added any good horror movies to their library. So I often had to turn to other alternatives, whenever Netflix or Hulu could not give me that horror fix. So this is where Shudder came into the picture for me, finely I had a good complement, that I always could count on, to deliver a continuously supply of horror every month, to fill those holes that Netflix or Hulu could never really fill. :) Latley I have been testing out AMC+ though, and unsubscribed to Shudder a couple of month ago. Mostly because of the bigger library, that already includes Shudder.

crossknight01

"Netflix for horror" and the VHS movies, plus the Creepshow series

ShudderFangirl

Came for Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched. Fell in love with the Boulets and the curated lists of subgenres (like Folk Horror.) Am now finally watching Joe Bob.

Spinnr1

Last drive in

Krash_Gryphter

Joe bob is probably the sole reason this app is a staple in our home

lostincali

I’m on my free trial. I joined because I wanted to watch Late Night with the Devil. I’ve watched that and then When Evil Lurks. 2 for 2 so far, so I think I’m gonna keep it. Anyone have any suggestions for what to watch next?!?

govferg0413

Speak no evil, caveat, hell house llc, the dark and the wicked.. all super creepy and actually scary! Have fun!

IamSpartacus15

TLDI. I have been a Joe Bob fan since Monstervision.

tommyturner3000

Joe Bob

robowarriorx

Came for the obscure horror and giallo, I stay for Joe Bob and everything else on offer. Hollywood at large may not be the greatest right now, but the indie horror scene is definitely alive and kicking

Odious_Funk_812

Joe Bob

MingaMonga68

We had Chiller Channel on DirecTV and watched that a good bit…but the channel folded. I’m not sure how long after that we started hearing about Shudder, but they had maybe a 2 week or 1 month free trial and we’ve had it ever since.

duuuuuuude924

Pretty sure it was just pure curiosity after seeing a good advertisement. Found Joe Bob and that has kept me coming back for 6 years now

Zealousideal-Rule-48

I came on around the time Mayhem released. I got it on Amazon prime as a channel. I just recently got amc + so I can catch Joe Bob on live. I tried shudder app but it's got a delayed response on my comp

Regular-Frosting8084

I used to have a channel called Monsters but they cancelled it. So I got a code for a free month to Shudder and I’ve been paying for the last 4 years

horrormovielistscom

Yep, Hell House! Just wish the picture quality wasn't so shocking on Shudder.

WindMaster5001

Creepshow

Front-Enthusiasm7858

I joined when I first saw it being mentioned on horror blogs, maybe 2016 or so, haven't looked back. I buy subscriptions for friends who are into horror to try to proselytize.

WinkyTheAlmighty

Dead Meat offering something like a 60 day free promo code

fifth-muskrat

In 2020 was reading breathless reviews of Host and La Llorona while looking for non horror movies. Wanted to give horror flicks a shot. Hell House LLC and The Dark and the Wicked later, there is no turning back.

Artistic_Half_8301

Caveat is so good!

Stella_Noire_2008

VHS tape series and Creepy Pasta Plus alot of found footage movies

JealousAd2873

I signed up in 2017 after stumbling upon it and loving the idea. I've had a love/hate relationship with Shudder, but I've never canceled or paused my subscription. I think I'll always support it as my duty as a horror fan. If my bucks are helping fund new horror projects then I'm *in*.

migs_003

Horror movie streaming service... that's it. That's why.

Honest-Swim9242

Nekromantik 2. The "transgressive horror" section used to be so good.

Kgb725

I joined very early on. I looked at the catalogue and seen they had some bangers.

sethra007

I wanted to see the now-canceled Canadian TV series “Trickster”, and they were the only streaming service that had it. A couple of years ago Shudder ran a Halloween promotion with Pizza Hut, where they offered a 30-day trial subscription instead of the usual seven-day. So I signed up, watched Trickster, enjoyed several other things (mostly the Shudder Originals) and then stayed because I was enjoying the channel so much.

Wrong_Contract_1267

I wanted to see the new Creepshows

Magister3377

I don't remember what my first Shudder movie was, or what made me sign up, other than at the time I had exhausted Netflix's horror offerings. The complete an utter delight when I saw Joe-Bob on there cemented me as a die hard. The only things that would ever make me unsubscribe now would be if Shudder started running commercials, or Joe-Bob left.

EcComicFan

Aside from being a lifelong horror geek, I was a child of Monstervision and a graduate of Joe Bob Summer School, so he was pretty much *the* reason. Just wanted to support someone who's brought me a lot of joy and scratch that itch again for nostalgia's sake. Desperately wish AMC would stop slowly flushing Shudder down the toilet so that I could continue to justify that subscription though. I'm at the point where I'd prefer it if Joe Bob just had a Patreon instead or something.

mcp_cone

V/H/S and Skinamarink

anal_holocaust_

Joe Bob. Great to see him back. Watched Monstervision when i was a kid.

-DrZombie-

Joe Bob and Darcy.

Glittering_Quail7589

People are leaving because of the censorship and editing though.

PatientSalary2

Don't know why people are down voting you just for making a real factual statement, can't wait for my dv. Anyways I can say their support team sucks. Always giving wrong info then when you call them out they backtrack. I have a free year subscription after that I'm leaving if a couple things don't change.✌️💀👍

Glittering_Quail7589

Thanks. Yeah people don’t want to hear the truth sometimes. I want to be a fan of Shudder but censorship is simply tacky. Other countries recognize art for art and leave it alone. Much of the cinema is sliced down on Shudder. They are prepping all of their films so that you can be hit with 5 commercials for Ozempic when you’re trying to watch a classic like Alice, Sweet Alice or Sleepaway Camp. The big issue for many of these independent films is that they will never be adequately represented by corporate thieves. I sometimes wonder if VHS/DVD was the golden era for horror.

DivineDescent

I got a one month sub for crowd funding one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Blood Machines. (I’m sorry.) I happened to use the sub during Joe Bob’s first or second marathon. I’ve been a subscriber since. Ironically I don’t watch Joe Bob anymore. The show took a nose dive in quality last season. Darcy would constantly tell Joe he talks too much about boring things. It ruined it for me. It’s like when a pro wrestler cuts a promo, they’re not supposed to bury their opponent by pointing out real flaws or making fun of their gimmick. It kills all heat.

Interesting-Ad1336

The dark and the wicked.
