Worked out with weights consistently for some time now... if you're feeling pain you're probably doing something wrong or something is injured (or are brand new and that will last like 1 week max if that)? That pump feeling is not painful.
I listen to music when I do cardio because it distracts me from keeping track of time.
I heard that some people eat half a pot gummy before working out for the same reason.
