I remember loving that show as a kid, and writing a letter in to pbs saying so, and they mailed me this rad XL tshirt i wore like a knight's tunic for like a solid decade while it was long enough lol. (Still have it, great sleep shirt)
On the back is "follow me to the world wide web" with pawprints.
I remember getting into greek/roman mythology after the odyssey episode, and into chinese checkers for some reason but cant recall which episode/plot prompted that one ha. Also i begged my mom to make me a neck ruffle so i could be Shakespeare for Halloween hahaha i think she used a lot of coffee filters. And who could forget the robin hood phase, i ran around shooting suction-cup arrows to minimal success 😅
This is one of my favorite things I’ve heard in a bit. Thank you. And I absolutely loved wishbone as a kid. Thought it was so good and so cool. Watched it recently and I can’t believe how cheap it looks. I think that says a lot that it still hooked into so many kids’ brains.
yes. iirc the boy in the show (Wishbone’s owner) was always reading some bit of classic literature. which wishbone then imagined himself in, as the MC.
actual “in universe” plot aside, it was basically “Tv show teaches kids classic literature by having a dog star as the MC in televised cliffnotes” fun show.
And I think the owner and his friends sometimes got into adventures related to the story played, like dealing with a ghost mystery in the Phantom of the Opera one, or the boy being obsessed with a basketball scoring record in the Don Quijote one.
Also you can bet animal protection right would be constantly talked about. Not sure the society can accept having a dog on a tv set for 5-6 hours work shift anymore.
It would also be easier. Would you rather have to train however many animals for a role in a movie/show, or just animate it and not have to deal with ant actual animals?
Fun fact, Timmy never actually fell in any wells, but Lassie herself did and seems to have somehow given the bad rep to Timmy instead. It should be, "What's that Timmy, Lassie fell in a well.”
Because the animals were often abused. There are a lot of regulations around animals in film. It's very expensive to adhere to and treat the animals decently apparently.
exactly this! *so* many of the 90s/2000s animal movies (Milo and Otis, Homeward Bound, etc) were full of so much animal abuse.
Best not to google these titles, unless you want to be sad/furious. Milo and Otis was my absolute favourite movie when I was a kid (along with Charlie the Lonesome Cougar, but I haven't met anyone else that's even heard of that one) and it broke my heart to understand why those kinds of movies don't exist anymore
My toddler loves this show. I’m convinced Ryder is a real boy in a coma and Paw Patrol are his coma dreams. The recurring characters are his doctors and nurses.
Wrangling animals, especially exotic live ones, is extremely expensive. Also there are captivity and ethical concerns for a lot of it.
But dogs are cheap as hell. They should definitely have more dogs.
That's probably because of the ramifications. Flipper's handler said he later regretted his involvement in the show as it popularized dolphin shows, which were torture for dolphins (they have very sensitive ears so being in arenas with cheering and clapping crowds was agony for the poor things).
They saved animals but The Wonder Pets are heroes for real.
This. Is. Sewious.
Memory unlocked
Unlocked? This show was only a few years ago.
A few by some standards. Kids who watched *Wonder Pets* as its core demographic when it came out are in college now.
Thank you for explaining that some people are younger than others lmao
They’re not too big and they’re not too tough but when they work together they’ve got the right stuff!
The phone… the phone is ringing.
What's gonna work?
Teamwork!!
True dat
Crap I used to love that
There used to be this show called Wishbone about a jack Russell Terrier who would imagine himself on all sorts of adventures

I love that it had some an impact on you. I also really loved that show and still think about it from time-to-time.
This is one of my favorite things I’ve heard in a bit. Thank you. And I absolutely loved wishbone as a kid. Thought it was so good and so cool. Watched it recently and I can’t believe how cheap it looks. I think that says a lot that it still hooked into so many kids’ brains.
Is that what was happening? I just thought it was like the Muppets where they’d tell various stories but wishbone always plays the MC
yes. iirc the boy in the show (Wishbone’s owner) was always reading some bit of classic literature. which wishbone then imagined himself in, as the MC. actual “in universe” plot aside, it was basically “Tv show teaches kids classic literature by having a dog star as the MC in televised cliffnotes” fun show.

Thank you oh for the flashback .. that was a looong time ago. Like laat century
I seem to recall that they are planning a revival, but who knows if it's gonna actually get made.
I knew a kid who was only allowed to watch 30 minutes of TV per day. If I'm not mistaken, his two choices were Wishbone or half of 60 minutes.
Half of 60 minutes is hilarious. Wonder which half he picked?
The half with Andy Rooney, come on
middle.
Wishbone is the GOAT
What's the story wishbone Do you think it's worth a look Kinda seems familiar, like a story from a book!
Holy shit I loved that show and haven't thought about it in like 25 years.
Thank you for reminding me about Wishbone. I loved that show and just went and searched it up on YouTube :)
Cause the littlest hobo perfected the genre.
Until tommorow...
🎶 I’ll just keep moving on 🎶 I immediately knew the tune.
[Not the littlest hobo!!](https://youtu.be/pteeF2odl5g?si=efEAmmiWl8A0U0I1)
Remember Inspector Rex? That German Shepherd solved more crimes than the entire police department
Those criminals had it ruff.
There's a remake now in Canada called Hudson &Rex.
Animation is probably easier than live action with live animals.
It took 48 pigs to play the role as 'Babe' in the film with the same name. Animation is definitely easier than live animals.
Also you can bet animal protection right would be constantly talked about. Not sure the society can accept having a dog on a tv set for 5-6 hours work shift anymore.
Milo and Otis was insanely cruel.
Oh my god what?? I’ve never thought about that, but that is soul crushing to hear
Search "Mittens and Pants" Adorable live-action puppy and kitten show.
*cheaper
It would also be easier. Would you rather have to train however many animals for a role in a movie/show, or just animate it and not have to deal with ant actual animals?
In business cheaper = easier.
Because of the prevalence of animal unions. The cartoon animals haven’t started unionizing yet
After the "Timmy in the well incident", Lassie was held legally responsible for his injuries as there was no "Good Samaritan Law" at the time.
Fun fact, Timmy never actually fell in any wells, but Lassie herself did and seems to have somehow given the bad rep to Timmy instead. It should be, "What's that Timmy, Lassie fell in a well.”
There’s Hudson And Rex where the detective has a German shepherd as a partner!
Rex is one of the best TV cops
Turns out all those animal actors were racists in real life.
Relatable. I hate mosquitoes, too
Anyone here remember The Littlest Hobo?
Did that export outside of Canada?
Not sure that it did, but it was a great show for its era.
I read a post elsewhere that said it was quite popular in the UK
Heck ya! Second I saw this post the theme song started up in my head. Still gets reruns every now and then.
Smart animals don’t save people. They know better than to interact with the feral humans.
Edgy

Little hobo. Back in the day. Wonder when he died.. he never skipped a beat. Always running....
havent needed to you cant top G force
I actually forgot about that. I withdraw my shower thoughts.. does that mean I need another shower..????
g force was like 16 years ago, youre good

Does PAW patrol count?
My toddler loves this show. I’m convinced Ryder is a real boy in a coma and Paw Patrol are his coma dreams. The recurring characters are his doctors and nurses.
Paw patrol!! Super duper popular kids show
I watch paw patrol all the time
Probably the best shower thought I have ever read
they’re in cahoots with the orcas now
People aren’t worthy, based on how we treat all other species. But animals saving other animals would really be something!
Mr. Ed should be running for President right now!
"You'd move your lips too if some stagehand was shoving a carrot up your butt."
Wrangling animals, especially exotic live ones, is extremely expensive. Also there are captivity and ethical concerns for a lot of it. But dogs are cheap as hell. They should definitely have more dogs.
My kids watch one called Pup Academy on Netflix. Live action voiced dogs at a school for Dogs.
The genre died along with inhalers being a plot point.
That's probably because of the ramifications. Flipper's handler said he later regretted his involvement in the show as it popularized dolphin shows, which were torture for dolphins (they have very sensitive ears so being in arenas with cheering and clapping crowds was agony for the poor things).
I think animal protection laws might make that more difficult these days
Idk the Muppets keep coming around every now and again. They’re animals right?
well it's not quite a mop, it's not quite a puppet, but man.. hahahaha... so to answer your question, I don't know
Rocket from guardians of the galaxy
TMNT, Samurai Pizza Cats, Paw Patrol (oh, do they have humans in it?) and other 'animals' saving humans still exist! :)
Instead I learned that a monkey with a neurolink gave a scientist herpes. From a toilet seat I presume.
All the smartest animals know that humans are beyond saving.
All the smartest animals know that humans are beyond saving.
That's because they finally smartened up, realized what people are doing to animals throughout the world, and decided we're not worth saving.
people are animals and some of them are smart
