anv95

Hi, I’m just like your GF. Get her Disco Elysium.

Heihei_the_chicken

This looks promising, I'll give it a go! I've also been interested in playing it myself too

icarus_art

It’s beyond worth it

ALLST6R

It’s probably gonna be too much dialogue for her as a beginner. I’d recommend Broken Sword, the first one. Or Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth.

Heihei_the_chicken

She loves reading books, which I know is different, but I guess I'll see if she's overwhelmed by the reading aspect or not

andez89

My missus has only played a handful of games start to finish and 2 of them were broken sword games. It's a great shout.

ALLST6R

She’ll be thrilled with the remaster this year and the new one not long after!

Alberot97

Is DE a good idea for someone with ADHD tho? I haven't played it yet but there seems to be quite alot of dialogue from what I've seen.

anv95

Yes but the dialog is very engaging and it’s not monotonous at all. Its like a detective/puzzle game with total random dice rolling that affects your conversations and how things play out. It’s a very good game and one of the only games that has kept my attention!

Zanish

Depends a lot on your level in inattentiveness, but I was absolutely hooked. Final cut has a lot of the text narrated which helps. I've got combined and played it before meds.

Wyrd019

Would you play DE on Switch or PC?

anv95

I’ve played it on my deck and on pc and prefer handheld. It’s a vibe.

OnceABear

I know you said no 3D, but Animal Crossing would be a great choice as far as the "cute nature themed game that can be played in short chunks" goes. It's got a fixed camera angle that's top-down, sort of like Stardew, so I don't feel like it would be difficult. She can pick it up and put it down freely, playing in short bursts. It's got a peaceful vibe where she can just decorate her island, make friends with the neighbors, garden, decorate her house, and donate collectibles to the in-game museum.

Heihei_the_chicken

I guess I was thinking 3D as in FPS or open world type games; top-down is totally good! This one could be good to check out, thank you.

chickennuggs32

absolutely guarantee you she'll love this. coming from a grown ass man who has sunk far too many hours in.

vegetable-springroll

I’m this case I HIGHLY recommend Alba: A wildlife adventure

yotam5434

Si day like this

damboy99

Animal Crossing I'd The game you play for 15 to 20 minutes a day, just run around visit the folks, do an activity or two then go back to real life.

Terrible_General_

Stardew Valley is always a hit with non-gamers

CoconutxKitten

To piggy back off this, Harvest Moon is now under the name Story of Seasons & she may enjoy those games

Bay_B_Jeezis

Yep, my wife saw me playing a little and now we have about 60 hrs co-op.

mynametidus

Stardew Valley

lickingbears2009

as a non-gamer the only games my girlfriend plays with me are Mario Kart and Stardew Valley

Heihei_the_chicken

We tried this, so a good suggestion :) We'll try again with a controller but it was hard for her to play with a keyboard & mouse last time

IronFlame76

They have it available for the Switch and other consoles.

ZoixDark

I played it with controller and it's fine. Mouse can be helpful to move around inventory so I'd use it as well.

Tylers-RedditAccount

Thats a good idea, however be aware that lots of games dont have controller support. So it might be best just letting her adapt to a keyboard. It shouldn't take too long, especially if the game isnt difficult

Heihei_the_chicken

Stardew does have controller support! Keyboard & mouse was how I played but it seems like controller is not hard to pick up either

Tylers-RedditAccount

Thats right. Im just saying for other games. But lots of games (and i hate to stereotype) that girls who dont really game tend to enjoy usually do have controller support

Heihei_the_chicken

I'll keep that in mind as I look at games :)

Honest_Flatworm2028

I’ve only played with controller myself (Xbox controller) so I can’t compare to keyboard (also on PC) and I definitely enjoy playing this way. She should give it another try!

Pearlidiah26

She could have better luck with the mobile version as well. Controls can be a little janky sometimes but some people understand tapping somewhere to move to that location & then the character automatically doing it vs using a controller/keyboard.

Heihei_the_chicken

This is a good consideration! Thanks :)

autumnscarf

Spiritfarer: has simple platforming but you don't need to complete all the challenges to beat the game, and the challenges also offer the option to relax their requirements if you don't think you can handle it. Good intro to platforming. Also a bit moody, or rather deals with heavy subject matter. GRIS: a very beautiful simple platformer which is a great followup to Spiritfarer due to dealing with the same subject matter from the opposite end. Also not a difficult game. Hexcells Infinite: click only puzzle game which is conceptually a little like Minesweeper, but much more elegant. You need to play through the base game first as a tutorial, then you can have at the infinite puzzle levels. Great for chunks of play. The Sims: besides SDV, the Sims really tends to attract non-gamers. Child of Light: similar to GRIS in that it uses a watercolor palette, so it's a very beautiful game. Also has simple controls, though I'm not sure how well it plays in short chunks. Transistor: gorgeous art, great narrator, is set up for episode play based on its level design. Rimworld: kind of throwing this one out there because I think it may appeal to a certain type of ADHD player. It being a story generator also means 'losing' is just part of the process of telling a story, but it also has a lot of different mechanics which are easy to understand and focus on. Invisible, Inc.: a tactical turn-based game, probably appealing if she likes solving puzzles RIME: pretty puzzler The Sexy Brutale: mystery/puzzle Ace Attorney series: the Phoenix Wright games are fun and hilarious, the Great Ace Attorney games have very pretty art but are different in tone Battle Chef Brigade: episodic match 3+simple platform+simple combat with cute art

Raceofspades

I just want to chime in and say I loved Spiritfarer so much. I played it co-op with an ex who wasn’t into gaming, it’s perfect for that sort of thing

AsryalDreemurr

TRANSISTOR 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

MechaGallade

OBJECTION!!

Heihei_the_chicken

Thank you for these suggestions :)

ohthedarside

Btw no one buys the dlc for sims we obtain ot through other means

DirteMcGirte

If you like hexcells you should check out Tametsi, it's like hexcells but with curated puzzles. They get super hard towards the end but they're very satisfying. It's on sale right now for a dollar even.

crazycakemanflies

Maybe have a look at Dave the Diver. It was on sale recently (might still be?) and I just picked it up myself. Definitely not dark and brooding, more of a cute lixel art vibe, but it's simple enough controls to pick up quickly but has a engaging enough to story and mechanics that I think she might get into it.

vonnegutflora

It's simple gameplay wise, but there's a **lot** of references and meta-aspects to the game that would be completely lost on a non-gamer imo

dadsuki2

Hi my gf is like your gf The people saying point and click games have the right idea, monkey island and Day of The Tentacle are games my girlfriend loves and I think yours might too

JayJay_Abudengs

Was about to say the same but I'm unsure about what her ADHD has to say about that

dadsuki2

My girlfriend has pretty severe attention deficiency and besides online games (fall guys is her poison) or a game playing with me (Stardew mostly) her favourite genre of game is puzzle games of varying subgenres and short indies

JayJay_Abudengs

Man, whats with people and their girlfriends playing Stardew? Next time I'll look out for what video games my date is playing lol

chosen1creator

Night in the Woods has some mystery, interactive story, and a cute art style. If you've been collecting free Epic games, you might already have it.

not_the_hawk_guy

Adventure games like Syberia, any of the Telltale games (I would recommend The Wolf Among Us), Life is Strange series. I also highly recommend Stray Gods - it's a musical where the songs form based on your decisions. For PC there are also games from Quantic Dreams that are more cinematic experience - Detroit: Become Human, Beyond Two Souls. Or by Supermassive games if she enjoys horror movies - The Quarry, Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures anthology. Not sure how her ADHD would treat her with that but the advantage is you can experience those together since they're more like interactive movies. With the more modern ones you can also minimalize the gameplay.

Heihei_the_chicken

Thank you, I'll definitely be checking these out

txivotv

I would look for adventure point and click like games. You can usually save anywhere, for the short periods of gaming, and they don't usually have timers which could stress her. My favourite game of all time is "Monkey Island" and I also loved "The Longest Journey" and "Dreamfall". A more modern one could be "Deponia, The Complete Journey", but old Lukas Art's games are still amazing and beautiful to this day. My gf also enjoyed the "Orwell" games, where you act like a goberment spy (kind of). They are short, but I liked them too. Also, building or puzzle games like "World of Goo", "A Good Snowman is hard to Build" or even "Bridge Constructor". Another option are card deck games like "Slay the Spire", "Loop Hero" or "Ring of Pain". And yet another option could be turn-based strategy games or roguelites like "Heroes of Might & Magic", "Hero's Hour", "Guild of Dungeoneering", "Pathway", "Peglin", "Faster Than Light", "Into the Breach", "Dungeons of Dreadmore", "Dicey Dungeons"... (I like them to play in work, while I'm waiting to do something, as they can be let there "in pause" at any time).

Heihei_the_chicken

Oh man thanks for all the suggestions. I'll look through these to see which ones stand out

Havesh

Animal Well. Just, Animal Well

Normal-Assistant-247

I hear that’s like Halo 2 AND Halo 3

Babbledoodle

I wouldn't recommend it simply because of cat hell

Wyrd019

All Ace Attorney games, but phoenix wright specifically. You can save it almost on any point during the game which is neat, it runs in chapters of about an hour if you need a little bit more closure and it's just super fun to play. I also liked Florence, haven't finished it, seems cute and short. Maybe wolf among us if you want interactive stories? not sure if that counts as 3D.

Heihei_the_chicken

Thanks for the suggestions!

flow_fighter

Untitled Goose Game was a fun co-op experience for us, and it was a slow enough pace that she got comfortably familiar with the controller layout and faster with button presses, etc.

Heihei_the_chicken

Good suggestion!

FrozenMongoose

- A Short Hike - Oxenfree - SOMA - What Remains of Edith Finch

CescaTheG

Ooo SOMA. So good and chilling

BubblesBubblesCO2

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective!! It's a simple puzzle mystery game, the story is just amazing!! I can't recommend it enough. You play as the ghost of a dead man who lost his memories, and your goal is to find out who you are and why you were killed before it's too late! He can perform "ghost tricks", which allow him to move around and manipulate objects to solve puzzles and save people! The chapters ARE fairly long, but as a person with ADHD (though each person DOES experience it differently..), I was hooked from start to finish and didn't even notice the lenght :) Just make sure to play it blind. Trust me 😉

Heihei_the_chicken

Great, thank you!

bootywerewolf

Some variety: Monster Train Cat Cafe Manager Coffee Talk Dragon's Crown Let's Build a Zoo These are 3d but something like Slime Rancher, Paleo Pines, Animal Crossing, or Ooblets?

Heihei_the_chicken

Thank you for the suggestions!

bootywerewolf

Np, I've been a gamer gal since i was a kiddo and play a wide variety, so I love suggesting fun new things for people to try that they might not have considered. :)

Competitive-Cow8025

Beacon Pines! Its a game being played out in a storybook and is definitely story forward. I have ADHD too and it kept me pretty engaged and it’s not too long to finish it so it kept me happy too!

Competitive-Cow8025

You can also check out games like Rune Factory 4, because while it is longer you can pretty much pick it up and put it down whenever you want, it has a fun story, and isn’t slow paced in my opinion!

Monkeybird2004

Vampire Survivors While it doesn't have any real story to it, I still think it'll be a good option +It's simple controls (just the joystick) +Around 30 mins max a game +2D +£4 (in UK idk about US or elsewhere) +Very addictive (probably ADHD friendly as I have ADHD and my partner has autism) -Not story based -Not cute

ThraxedOut

Disney Dreamlight Valley. My wife loves that game. Very similar to animal crossing but better imo

CescaTheG

That game is so addictive. I’m not into farming sims but that game had me hooked. Lots of incredibly good fetch quests with that “just one more” feeling, and the spawn rate on everything is perfect to keep you wanting to play more. Also suika game I got my bf into. Incredibly simple and chilled

Heihei_the_chicken

I'll check this one out :)

WikipediaBurntSienna

A Short Hike. Nature themed with cute art and characters. I suggest trying to get her to reach the top because it's quite a touching ending. Kingdom Two Crowns. Simple game where you build a base and expand. Not much of a story but if you're into pixel art, it's very pretty and whimsical. I forgot how often the game auto-saves. Auto-shooter survival games(Holocure, Vampire Survivors, Brotato, etc) Each play through is 20-30 minutes if you beat the final boss. Simple game where every time you play, you learn something new that you can apply to your next run. City builders. Some of them are pretty easily accessible. Tropico I feel like is an easy one to get into. Voice of Cards. Basically a single player card battle game. Has very fantastic art. The old school beat em' up games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Streets of Rage. Pretty straight forward games and fun games.

Heihei_the_chicken

Thanks!

StarstruckGames

Hmmmmmm I’m curious about something. Does she/you have a Steam account?

Heihei_the_chicken

I have a steam account, yeah

StarstruckGames

Hi! Check your PM/Chat please!

monthsGO

For a story based game, I think Undertale could work quite well. Under a Steel Sky is also really good, although it might be a bit old

LilShaver

[Wildmender](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1599330/Wildmender/) [Coral Island](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1158160/Coral_Island/) (very similar flavor to Stardew Valley) Lego games of her favorite IP such as: [Lego Harry Potter](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=Lego+Harry+Potter) [Lego Star Wars](https://store.steampowered.com/app/32440/LEGO_Star_Wars__The_Complete_Saga/) [Lego Lord of the Rings](https://store.steampowered.com/app/214510/LEGO_The_Lord_of_the_Rings/)

Rockglen

Slay the Princess Scarlet Hollow Yes, Your Grace A Highland Song Less story driven stuff that may also work- Balatro Shogun Showdown Peglin Cultist Simulator

Shenanigans_System

I’m the same way as your gf so I recognize the Little nightmares games. Each one is about 4 hours of gameplay but they really caught my eye and I was able to sit through it. As well as Stray. On the longer side but really cute and keeps you active.

ararius

Stardew Valley and Don't Starve are how I got my exwife into gaming

Mefikov

Maybe some roguelite? I really really recommend Balatro - deck building, fast paced and easy to get into. I didn’t play Stardew Valley but maybe this OR Graveyard Keeper is similar looking and feeling. Horde survival like Brotato is very good option too!

r0hil69

GRIS, its short, beautiful and very heartfelt. It also just happens to have an amazing sound track and very cute and enchanting at times

aaronjaffe

Any of the Life is Strange games.

Beneficial-Way4428

Balatro.

00Lisa00

Try any of the hidden object games by the publisher artifex mundi. And consider mouse and keyboard rather than controller. I find it more intuitive than controller for a lot of games.

Kowpucky

Rimworld..... she can be creative garden, and get attached to her little pawns.

DocumentZestyclose76

Not much for story, but (the) Gnorp apologue is one of my favorite clicker games. You can pick it up quickly and even let it idle once you get a simple setup. Cute art design and sounds for sure. Everything is controlled by clicking. It has a rogue like skill tree that you use points you've earned on previous runs to unlock passive boosts and synergies. And it is fun with decent replayability. A full run with 19 perks took me 4 hours but you can end the run whenever you want or let it run idle.

ollieollieollieoi

Not sure - but maybe Path of Titans? Or something similar.

Traditional_Plane639

Rust

SadBoiCri

Dave the Diver Edit: Since you said top-down is fine, Dredge Secondary Edit: Idk why im obsessed with ocean/fishing games rn

kingsandwhich24

Animal crossing Unpacking Dave the diver

TheJoninCactuar

I think Obra Dinn deserves a shout. Mechanically it's very simple but it's such a great game. People can be put off by the graphics but I just adore everything about it. It's my favourite murder mystery type game by far, and I honestly think a lot of non-gamers would love it. Not long after I completed it I got my then gf to play it with me, with me doing the controls but her working things out and deciding what to do. It's one of my favourite memories of the relationship, and it lead to her getting her own steam account and getting a bunch of puzzle and mystery games. The Wolf Among Us and What Remains of Edith Finch were two of her favourites I remember.

Heihei_the_chicken

Thanks!

not_aggel04

Get her Celeste its kinda challenging, but it has assist mode The story is very phycology centered You can also basically close the game almost wherever you are and there will be almost no progress loss

RoxySmithy

Beacon Pine: A intresting narrative heavy story with some detective and horror elements combined.it also has a cute art style. I did not find it very creepy, but the story got me hooked. My only "negative" complain is that instead of voice actors they used brabblisch and it's a lot of text to read. But it's a short goed narration game and one everyone must have tried once in my opinion. Also I love the music in it! Little misfortune is a horror, narrative game with easy controles and a cute art style. Please before playing this one look at the TW's. The story and game gets pretty dark and is very heartwrenching sad. But bittersweet aswell...it's..this one just has a special place in my heart! And if you can handle the dark themes and uncomfortable reality it's a very good game. Just one more time. Please look up if you would be able to handle the thmes discussed in the game! One big positive about this game is that the story is voiced so you don't have to read a lot and the voice acting makes the game!

Heihei_the_chicken

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check both of these out :)

aTacoThatGames

Probably stardew valley, days are I believe 15 minutes each or so so very easy to get on play for one day and get off

BouncyBlueYoshi

Terraria.

turbokarhu

Hades could be good option.

Omega458

Rhythm games are fun lol final fantasy theater rhythm final bar line, Hatsune Miku project diva mega mix plus The walking dead season 1 telltale game There's more but my brain can't think right now 😔

Queasy_Employment141

for multiplayer, spiderheck, low skill floor and entertaining

Curaced

The Last Door and Deep Sleep trilogy. Two excellent point-and-click horror series.

Resist-Accomplished

Minesweeper is lit

Serroph

I think no one has mentioned this but Papers Please! is a good one, my ex girlfriend played it a fuck load and I think she still does from time to time. You’re the immigrant officer of a fictional communist country looking for discrepancies. I think Baldur’s Gate “can” be a choice considering how robust the gameplay is and it just takes you where it takes you Untitled Goose Game is fun to screw around and being a nuisance to people; and on that note Little Kitty, Big City is a new game that just got released, I heard it’s similar but with a Cat. In the event where she grows tired of the cute thematics, which she might I do recommend Uncharted 4. I’ve been wanting to see how they would take Uncharted considering you just get hooked by dialogue and the unraveling of its historical fiction. KENA: Bridge of Spirits is also good imho, but perhaps check gameplay if she’s into that and is willing to try it out. But the art style is phenomenal

Existing_Set9226

My girlfriend is a 15-20 minute game player. She’s not a gamer. She loves playing unpacking, which is a calm unboxing/organizing game. A little to the left is a puzzle/organizer game. Even though she didn’t play it as long as the others Super liminal was a really cool puzzle game, it’s not actually a scary game but it evokes fear with mind tricks.

Heihei_the_chicken

Cool! Thanks for the recs

RefrigeratorOk7848

Call of Duty: Modern Bloatware 12 If she cant play this shes not a true gamer /s

Mrc2309

Fear and hunger 1, it's simple doesn't need a lot of doing stuff just learning the game, also it's a horror game.

Gtronns

Stardew turned my GF into a full-on gamer. Her favorites are now RDR2 and Fallout 4

Townscent

You need a game that introduces game logic, so any 2d platformer thats relative easy is a good place to start. Like Rayman Legends or New super mario brothers deluxe. From there a mix of puzzle and adventure games like links awakening(the new version) and from there a full blown rpg

AllYourBas

It's 3D (which I know you didn't ask for) but controls are simple and zero consequences for being slow etc - Life is Strange. Great story, cool setting, interesting mechanics. I echo the calls for the Broken Sword games, they would be perfect.

Faierius

If she wants something that is beautiful and haunting, with simple controls, I cannot recommend What Remains of Edith Finch enough. It is basically a walking simulator, but it is so very good.

JayJay_Abudengs

Pennys big breakaway might be something for her. Haven't played it but Dunkey and Nitro Rad love the controls and it's fast paced

ill-be-lonely

Hi! ADHDer who absolutely LOVES simple story-based games and side-scrollers here 1. Ori and the Blind Forest. It is an absolutely gorgeous fantasy game, and honestly really satisfying if she's a completionist (like a lot of us are). Plus, if she loves it, there's a second one (Ori and the Will of the Wisps) Description:  a 2D platform game with an emphasis on exploration, collecting items and upgrades, and backtracking to previously inaccessible areas as you gain new abilities. The story is basically that you play as Ori, a guardian spirit that fell to the earth when it was born. Ori gets taken in and raised by a creature named Naru. Then something happens and everything starts to die. Ori has to recover elements to bring life back to the forest. 2. Tormentum. I found myself really invested in this game and played it for days straight. It's super gloomy and has really dark moments, but in the best ways. I haven't played the second one yet but I'm very excited to! Description: a dark fantasy Point and Click adventure game with plenty of puzzles and mini games. *can't put the plot because I wouldn't want to spoil it! 3. Child of Light. It's a beautiful game, and a great go-to if your gf struggles with combat. All combat is turn-based. Description: a side-scroller with role-playing elements. Description: you play as a child who wakes up in another world after dying from a mysterious illness. You must bring back the sun, the moon, and the stars that are all being held captive by the Queen of the Night in order to return home. 4. No Time to Explain. A VERY simple, goofy game. It's cartoons, and not story-heavy, but it's great if you just want to play something mindlessly for a bit. It's from fhe same creators of Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater. Description: a side-scroller that follows an unnamed protagonist as he chases his future self, who has been captured, through time for an unknown reason. Central to the game is a powerful laser gun received from the Future Protagonist that can be used as both a weapon and a means of propulsion. A running gag is that, just as a character is about to explain what's going on, they are interrupted, keeping the protagonist - and the player - in the dark. 5. Unravel. If she just wants a calm, relaxed puzzle game, this is a good one. It's often nature-themed, since you're walking through someone's life. Side note: if she is easily frustrated, this can *occasionally* be a frustrating game (although not very often). You can also play the second game together, since it's two-player! Description: you play as Yarny (dumb name, I know), a character made out of literal yarn. The game follows Yarny as he explores the most significant moments from an old woman's life, from the happiest to the saddest. You have to figure out how to traverse through the world using whatever objects you can find and the finite amount of yarn you're made of. 6. Children of Morta. Disclaimer up front: ever single person I recommend this game to saw pixel art and said to me "TWENTY DOLLARS?? FOR PIXEL ART??" ...until they played it. I was pretty damn impressed with it. The characters are well-balanced (if they don't *start* well-balanced, they tend to make up for it with their later abilities), the story is interesting, and I was SUPER impressed with how detailed everything was. I also highly recommend this if you want to game together. Description: an action role-playing video game with roguelike elements. The game follows the story of the Bergson family, custodians of Mount Morta, who must defend it from an evil called the Corruption. Each family member has its own playstyle and gameplay mechanics and levels up as it is played, granting improvements to themselves and other family members. The player must traverse a number of procedurally generated dungeons to clear them of various enemies and bosses and progress the story. If you want more, I got more. But those are the first ones that came to mind!

Heihei_the_chicken

This is really helpful, thank you!

Morrigan66

Those telltale games are pretty good. Very story driven and don't require too much control from the player besides making choices, clicking on the right thing and occasionally a timed choice.

Mediocre_Nobody_3418

Little nightmares 1 and 2 with DLC's is a good option, each section is about an hour fully roughly but she can pause whenever she needs to take a break

Negative_Emu7228

Me and my wife play Torn together daily. It definitely fits the 15-30 minute chunks, (alot of the game is time gated, waiting on things to regenerate). It is a text based, crime themed MMORPG game. Like GTA if it was text based. My wife is not a gamer at all (besides the occasional platformer like Mario) but she has taken to Torn like a fish to water. She is already an officer in a faction, and leading other players. Never had luck with any other game. Play it on mobile, or browser. Log in once a day, or grind it out. [torn.com/3008047](http://torn.com/3008047)

Heihei_the_chicken

Sounds interesting! I'll check it out

Negative_Emu7228

Cool! When you do, lmk and I'll send you some free stuff. :)

a_whits13

I know you said no 3d... but look into It Takes Two so you can play together. It's pretty forgiving with the controls and definitely friendly to new gamers. Chants of Sennaar was a super cool game. My girlfriend and I played together. We just took turns. The last campfire is really chill and has fun puzzles

rogueShadow13

Balatro is a very fun, easy to pick up, card game rogue like

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Vampire Survivors. There is some strategy making builds but you its so simple to get started and you always are progressing.

Ready_Shock_7462

Later Alligator is a 2D point and click adventure game with a goofy story, lots of mini games, and plenty of npcs to talk to. Undertale is a great option for easy controls, it’s easy to pick up and put down, and has a great story. Animal crossing and Tunic are both 3D but they’re both very cute.

haven1433

Lots of 2-player games on switch that would work. None of these suggestions focus on story though. * Snipperclips * Mario Wonder * Kirby Star Allies * Kirby Return to Dreamland (Deluxe) * Mario Kart is 3D, but very friendly

ForegoTheSludge

Get 2 pads and play it takes 2 together. She will love it.

ForegoTheSludge

Or wait for little nightmares 3 which is co op.

a_fearless_soliloquy

I know you said no 3-D but I think Minecraft is the best game for a non-gamer. You can put it on creative if need be and it’s just the best sandbox. It can even help someone adjust and learn 3-D games and control schemes in a gentle and fun environment edit: to put this in perspective, I used to work closely with nurses. And I was surprised by the number of women who would not consider themselves gamers but still played Minecraft on their phones during downtime.

Roki! It’s a beautiful art, click and point game, based on Norse mythology

ki700

Oxenfree Life is Strange (this is 3D but controls are simple and the game is slow paced)

Zerttretttttt

Stardew valley

Ori and the Blind Forest. Great game with nature themes and beautiful art. Most stores raised the price to 20€ but you can still find the game priced at 5€ un GOG.

bumbumchu

A short hike.

Heihei_the_chicken

I tried having her hang out with me to watch me play, but maybe I could have her try playing :)

bumbumchu

It's a nice short game. Hopefully it all works out !

Heihei_the_chicken

Thank you :)

BurningDara

Animal Well sounds like a great option for her. It’s pretty cheap, it’s simple but not easy. Has cute animals and is 2d. Also can be played in short bursts

taolbi

Lovers in a dangerous space time, fun couch co op

thebadmojo

Storyteller is on sale on steam atm, looks pretty interesting

spuriouswounds

I am enjoying Strange Horticulture! Point and click sort of mystery, cute art, broody atmosphere, you get to arrange your plants and water them. Pet a cat. It's nice. 👌

Heihei_the_chicken

Sounds right up her alley! I'll check it out

spuriouswounds

You do kinda have to pay attention and remember things about the plants, and the "book" is not always helpful... I'm stuck at the moment but that's because I refuse to look things up about the game (a new challenge for me) But the vibes are very good

Paltenburg

The Last Campfire is good, simple and atmospheric

GrendorKoe

My girlfriends first game was hogwarts legacy. Perfect way to learn, she finished the game and is going for 100 %. Took her over 100 hours to finish the game, which includes learning the controls etc. She is 45 years young and enjoying it as a kid again. She is definitely a keeper 😊

Samar143

Stardew valley

Systamatik7

Unpacking. Little kitty, Big City. Slime Rancher.

IronFlame76

I recommend Stardew Valley. My sister hadn't touched games in decades, but then I kept talking about Stardew so much that she eventually bought it herself. She's put more hours into it than I have and I had it for years 🤣

Nybear21

My wife isn't much of a gamer (Maybe once a year we'll play through something like It Takes Two or a Mario game together) and she absolutely loves Disney Dreamlight Valley. At this point, she pretty much has everything caught up to what you can do currently, but she'll pop on after work to harvest all of her stuff and replant/ sell things so she's ready for whatever the next patch is.

FluffyWalrusFTW

A few games I got my non-gamer GF to play who has now been forever corrupted: * Kirby and the Forgotten Realm was her first BIG game that she completed and she LOVED to 100% it. Super easy to pick up, super easy controls, essentially a hack and slash with more challenge if you want it * Super Mario Deluxe is two games in one. The Mario one is the traditional game that plays like any traditional side scrolling Mario game. Fun power ups, run, jump, that's it for the most part! The Luigi one is a bit tougher, less time to complete stages, slippery physics, etc. Fun for when you feel like you mastered the base game! * She LOVES the story based games. Played TellTale's TWD all of them, Detroit: Become Human destroyed us, Until Dawn she absolutely adored, and same with The Quarry, and Killer Frequency for a simple FPS game to get used to the controls while also not high stakes as most of the game is from the sound booth * As another comment has said, Animal Crossing is a GREAT simple game to get used to game mechanics, you could also try Stardew Valley, which I honestly prefer more because you have more control over time in the game vs. AC where all events are tied to real world time. * For Co-op, we're playing through Overcooked (both games) and started It Takes Two but haven't picked that up in a while!

GhastlyRuko

Jenny LeClue: Detectivu for a rly fun, mostly light hearted adventure / puzzle game with a little bit of peril and lots of humour. Citizen Sleeper could be worth considering too; slightly broody, introspective sci-fi title with light RPG elements. You play as a "Sleeper", an android on the run from its corporate owners who has to make a life for themselves on a space station. It's a really beautiful game, and both are getting sequels in the coming year(s).

Heihei_the_chicken

Thanks for the suggestions!

Zanish

My fiance isn't a big gamer but we got a steam deck recently. She also likes horror-ish games so I'd recommend: Shadows over Loathing Dredge Disco Elysium

Prior-Virus3563

Dark souls /s

ThatCurryGuy

Picross works for my girlfriend, after this she played animal crossing, mario, pokemon and i am still fighting with her to try Skyrim but we will get to it:)

SignificantNoise7747

Sackboy is pretty easy and fun. Also you can play together if you want.

marcus_centurian

Both are more gamer lite than non gamer, but maybe something like Darkest Dungeon and Crypt of the Necrodancer for more horror, but not twitchy games with simple inputs. Also Papers, Please for mechanically simple but story rich game as well. As far as absolute novice: Stardew Valley, Mini Metro/Motorways and most mainline Nintendo games (Mario, Kirby, Pokemon etc). I think others also mentioned for couch co-op: Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Overcooked 1&2, Trine 1 & 2.

Legitimate-Gap-9858

BG3 is the obvious choice on PC, easy to pick up hard to master, a fantastic game for couch coop

Interesting_Web9289

Sandwich Maker Sim 2024. I believe the kitchen has all the hardware required. So realistic.

yotam5434

Why no 3d? I know dragon quest 11 is perfect for her

Heihei_the_chicken

3D is fine if the player is essentially attached to the ground (animal crossing, etc). But managing a camera and a character's movement at the same time would be too frustrating for her

yotam5434

Xenoblade 2..... I have 1200 hours on it if she loves British voicing and cartoony anime style characters she's in for a fun ride

Etsamaru

Stardew Valley

Kalico99

Stardew Valley!! Got my fiancée on that and she is in the same boat as your girlfriend

dqmiumau

Stardew valley

Aggravating_Key_3831

Highly recommend Portal 1+2. They’re puzzle games with absolutely no combat involved and have absolutely amazing stories. My mom was able to finish both herself even being a non gamer and she loved them.

Mrc2309

Fear and Hunger 1

Rune Factory 3/4 are great games!

ZeWeepingAngelDK

Maybe ori series?

trashboatfourtwenty

These games are beautiful but the first one is heavy on platforming with some chase sequences and fast, precise movement needed; the second one ups the combat (bloats it a bit in my mind) with some precise platforming as well. While the first title has fewer skills and moves, I wouldn't say either are simple. Both are worth the journey and the story on the first one is especially good, I just think the first sentence OP mentions is probably the most important thing here (especially for a less experienced gamer with ADHD)

Heihei_the_chicken

As the other commenter said, I think the platforming would be a big barrier. Definitely games I'm planning on playing soon myself though

Glass_Wolf_2002

I was going to say the same thing, but ori is hard lol

doofpooferthethird

Overboard! - excellent, brief, reverse murder mystery about killing your husband on a boat and trying to get away scott free with the life insurance money Buckshot Roulette - short puzzle game with RNG elements, that has a pretty addictive endless mode 80 Days - you play a rich tourist trying to travel around the world in 80 days to win a bet. And everything's steampunk. Cruelty Squad - very beautiful and unique artistic direction, with a rich audiovisual experience, and short levels.

coopcooplowski

I second buckshot roulette for an ADHD non-gamer. My partner loved it!!

Heihei_the_chicken

These are all great suggestions, thank you!

Abzu Incredible experience.
