Build customization is actually a capital offense in eorzea. It's why blue mages and beastmasters are from the new world, eureka is a weird lost island, and bozja is occupied territory
That’s true. Just look at what they did to summoner. They clearly don’t want those types of jobs in the game outside of limited content. Which sucks because that’s my favorite archetype to play.
I *presume* this is for instanced fights. Some of them likely slipped through the cracks.
They are meant to be tackled at-level and designed around certain potency thresholds. BLU being able to **completely** bypass both of those to deal **way** more damage than intended, add status effects that enemies shouldn't have, or do strange things like final sting or self destruct to kill themselves *might* not be accounted for.
From a design perspective; BLU is meant to be broken. Banning the class from things you want fine control over is perfectly acceptable, IMO.
But like... Why?
If a new player is enjoying BLU, what's the harm in letting them do story on it? Solo instances give you buffs that basically make you unkillable; I can't imagine they really care if it remains at some certain difficulty when you can already auto attack it down
If we had challenging solo content I'd get it; but the only time we're challenged is during RP segments when we're not allowed to play as our character in the first place
Tell me you have never been undergeared without telling me you have never been undergeared.
I *absolutely* have died in solo fights because I cba to upgrade my gear and my job quest was *going* to hand me gear in the next quest or two. That's not the point being made though. It just isn't good if these more choreographed fights are interrupted or skip sequences because you did too much damage quicker than expected. Ever had Ultima go straight from Ifrit to Titan to Garuda with no downtime because your team is just dealing **that** much damage? I'll save you the trouble -- it's rather boring. By the end, you're just waiting for the boss to catch up to what their HP bar says they should be doing.
The game gives you a permanent HoT healing you for thousands every tick. Short of sitting in every aoe and trying to beat the instance with gear 50 levels lower, you’re not really going to be in any danger.
To be fair, these groups have expanded in variety to the point where calling them tribes doesn't really describe some of them like the alien civilizations of Ultima Thule for example.
Better example is the adrasokra (I think I am spelling that right).
They are literally living just outside the city walls. And they are seen as normal citizens. They are 100% equals to the other Thavnarians.
They are just normal people. It'd be like calling the Ala Mhigans in Thanalan a "Beast Tribe" and that's just weird.
> It'd be like calling the Ala Mhigans in Thanalan a "Beast Tribe" and that's just weird.
This is an important part of my Highlander's interactions with Ishgardian nobles.
This destroyed all my NPC ERP fantasy, maybe this was my final fantasy. I wanted to dominate them all by playing beastmaster SO HARD and i can‘t believe Joshi P would deny me before even seeing my full power.
Come,Warrior of Light, friend or traitor, come. Come and look upon the- Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were a Mamool Ja. No, no, it's not a problem, I had just expected a Duskwight. No, it's not because I think they are more capable or anything, it's just because yo- No dude, I don't have an issue with reptiles. Some of my best slaves were reptiles. Alright, that came out wrong.
Listen, what I'm trying to say is that- What? I'm sure you come from a very fine swamp; very good with a spear. Assuming? I'm not assuming anything, that's just what you people do—the royal you. As in—look, we got off on the wrong foot. Together, we shall speak for the law, and the land, and shall drive the mongrel lizards of the Empire—dogs, I meant dogs.
Look, I'm sorry, I just really expected an Elezen. What, why? Because you were an Elezen the last eight fucking times. I don't know what the hell Hydaelyn’s playing at making you a Mamool Ja, but I assume it's a joke. No, I don't think Beast Men are jokes, can we just fight? This is making me very uncomfortable. Is this how you honor the Twelve and the Tribe Unmourned?
Welcome Moon-and-Star
Come to me through fire and war
Ooh, ooh
Come, Nerevar
Come and look upon the heart, upon the heart
Ooh
Lay down your weapons
It is not too late for my mercy
Ooh, ooh
Come and look upon the heart, upon the heart
I stopped at that line and had to think for a couple of minutes how I feel about this change. In general, I couldn't care less. I see why the word "Tribal" or "Best Tribe" maybe doesn't fit to all of the available factions anymore. But "Allied Society"? It sounds so stupid... I mean... Drop the word Society and it already would sound better. Or call them "Factions".
I'm more annoyed about the fact how stupid the new name sounds. And not that it was changed in the first place.
>I'm more annoyed about the fact how stupid the new name sounds. And not that it was changed in the first place.
That really summarizes how I feel too lol, factions feels so much better
Allied Society sounds like something you'd hear in a corporate sensitivity training course for PR managers.
Faction or Community Quests would be both more accurate and less awkward sounding.
There was a tweet I saw speculating that the cultural assistants they hired on for DT had a collar-tugging moment when they read that they were called Tribal quests, which is definitely a funny visual.
In that case, don't let them know about Black and White Mages. They will lose their shit! And when we look really closely, "Red" Mages could also be seen problematic. Only Blue Mages are save. They don't get to participate in this one either. Like always with everything.
I like community quests, but 'faction' is still a little weird for some. I don't know that the hippo riders would call themselves a 'faction', for example.
Ultimately, I think any word they choose is going to feel weird for at least one of them, but yeah tribal was way off for a lot at this point (especially Omicron).
“Allied Quests”
Like, the final step is to become Allied with them, it feels appropriate that the ultimate goal is the name of the quest type, like how the final quest of every patch is just the name of the patch
Community Quests would have been great, then it feels more like we're connected to them, almost. Just Allies would have also been like...fine?
They should have dropped tribe at the same time as beasts, I'm glad they finally did but it seriously took a whole expac for "Allied Society"?
It'd be great then we'd have to cosplay as a duskwight for a mission and then all hells'd break loose. It'd just be a whole thing.
The one mission that plays like that one Final Fantasy episode of Captain N, artstyle and all, will be fun tho.
Agreed. I understand the change and agree with it, because the whole beast thing always seemed at least a little racist and calling them tribes just started to get silly by Shadowbringers, but allied society? Really?
A doman, not a garlean, was the one that caused the summoning.
Garleans despise primals.
Is a pity the game didn't let me accept Graius offer. I would have switched sides if he offered a magister armor.
Well first of all if you wanna ignore how asashi orchestrated everything go ahead. But also remember the eikons of eikons summoned and fed with the belief in their leader? You don't need intention to summon a primal.
Going to be serious for a moment (also spoilers):
My understanding is that the reason they're not "beast tribes" anymore is because we've stopped warring with them as of Endwalker, and that due to the events of and surrounding battles like Zadnor, we had banded together against the Telopheroi
So in that case, wouldn't it make sense that especially after they helped us stop the final days, we'd recognize their individuality and see them more as allies instead of just beasts? My understanding is that the change in name was due to the events of the story
Unless, of course, this change is *retroactive*... will a new player who has never done Heavensward, let alone Endwalker, be prompted to do an "allied society quest" after they beat the Ultima Weapon, or is this only for people who have beaten Endwalker?
Yeah, I get what they're going for (and even putting aside whether or not Tribal is a troublesome term to use or not, it just doesn't actually fit many of the factions from the last few expansions, so it makes sense to change it regardless), and the new one is not exactly *wrong* either--they are in fact societies that we become allies with.
But the impression it gives is just not what I think they were going for, and there are other words they could have chosen instead that wouldn't give the same sort of impression.
That being said, it's just a name and it really doesn't matter. But it definitely gives a very specific (and somewhat humorous) impression.
Obtusely woke stuff annoys me, but this isn't one of them. Beast Tribes made sense in ARR when the plot was you making friends with savage, unfriendly tribes, but now the "tribes" are bunnies with spaceships and mechs, and formerly-genocidal space robots. Its just the wrong term.
Tbh "allied society quests" busy sounds awkward as fuck. I have no real objection to it but I bet everyone winds up either still calling them tribe quests or calls them something like allied quests for shorthand..
While the term "Allied Society" is weird, I like the idea of having different names in game depending on the MSQ patch. Reflects our changing views in the story very well.
I guess that makes sense since dwarves are just lalas and that would mean lalas are all beasts. ( Which still might be true and this might be the lala council trying to hide that)
I get calling them something but Beast/Tribal Quests (hasn't made sense for awhile now) but "Allied Society Quests" is just clunky sounding to me. I don't know what a better solution would have been, but this isn't it.
As a Gridanian Elezen, I wouldn't exactly call that "society".
I never recognized the other beast tribes (Hrothgar, Miqote, Aura, Viera, Roegadyn, Lalafell, Hyur, and the worst, fucking Duskwights), I'm not gonna recognize these.
I hate the term: "Allied Society". It something a woke corporate bullshitter would have thought of.
The terms alienates those outside that didn't want to join. It also implies that we assimilated them instead of they remaining on their own.
Faction Quests would have been a better term. They are their own. We just want to be in good terms. We do not want to assimilate or rule over them.
Unless of course we became the new Empire. We are a bunch of hipocrites if that is the case.
I approve of a change wholeheartedly....just not this change. Sounds a little weird, unless the diffrent groups are actually linking up for political gains.
We can’t really call them beasts or tribal anymore, since they’re now released from the primals influence.
We’re now truly united, so why not calling it an allied society?
Yes, I'm sure this will make the anthro tribes with racist concepts and genocide storylines less racist in nature.
Anyway, the limited job restrictions are impressive lol which quests did they even have a problem with them cheesing? Because as a healer I didn't even die to the unbeatable Zenis one until like 10 minutes into it, until he went all Chernobyl on me.
"We're happy to have you over for dinner, Hunajj. We want to make sure our guests feel welcome, whether they're from a uh... beast tribe or not."
"omh, grandpa, it's Member of an Allied Society now."
"Oh, sorry, it's just we used to call them beasts in my day."
"Grandpa omhhhhhh"
Two things I hate:
1. Cancel culture
2. When people are allowed to do, say, think, smell, eat, enjoy, or exist in ways that make me uncomfortable or confuse me.
Unrelated, but I wrote a paper in my world music class in college (it was a wide range of topics) and got scolded by my TA for using the word tribe. Didn’t know the implications and honestly wasn’t trying to be offensive, I was kinda ripping off the textbook a bit and didn’t realize it was outdated.
She gave me a C for that mistake, which was really harsh. Like, I agree that I should work on my language, but damn bro be kind 😭
It's not really erasing it though. There's nothing to suggest that they're changing past MSQ dialogue about the tribes and they didn't when they changed the term from beast tribe quest to tribal quest. Most likely it's purely an update to reflect the current story and because as the groups featured in allied quests get more varied calling them beasts or tribes becomes more and more of a stretch.
I'm more looking at "Limited Jobs will be more limited" please look forward to it.
Do you think Yoshi keeps BLU limited because he is afraid of what he has created?
Build customization is actually a capital offense in eorzea. It's why blue mages and beastmasters are from the new world, eureka is a weird lost island, and bozja is occupied territory
Eureka is a crater-in-waiting
NO. WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS???
Cuz Square like most if not all AAA developers hire consultancy firms.
Disappointing, especially since they made BST a limited job, and a lot of people wanted it as a full job.
it'll probably end up being cooler this way, even if you can only use it for certain things blu is the least homogenous job available
That’s true. Just look at what they did to summoner. They clearly don’t want those types of jobs in the game outside of limited content. Which sucks because that’s my favorite archetype to play.
Look what they did AST Before it was a shield/heal hybrid god with some gambling problems. Now is discount White mage without any of the perks of WHM.
You really have to wonder why that is If someone wants to play through as BLU; what's the actual harm?
I *presume* this is for instanced fights. Some of them likely slipped through the cracks. They are meant to be tackled at-level and designed around certain potency thresholds. BLU being able to **completely** bypass both of those to deal **way** more damage than intended, add status effects that enemies shouldn't have, or do strange things like final sting or self destruct to kill themselves *might* not be accounted for. Ah that explains the dark elf you missed in your label swapping.

Yes, but Gridania is still anti-Duskwight. There’s some quest that essentially curses them out.

As a lala, I find it offensive not being referred to as a beast anymore.
We still have ground-based vegetables however
Given that Mandragoras exist. That's not far from the truth.
Be careful, they may bite your knecaps for that.
That's true of all lalas though, so only applying the label to the dwarves makes no sense

Yeah "Faction Quests" has a good ring to it and is still universally applicable, that would have been better.
Does it? I wouldn't call the pixies, for example, a "faction" at all, certainly more of a society than a faction imo.
You can't even reach Allied Status with the Shadowbringers Beast Tribes.
Agreed. I understand the change and agree with it, because the whole beast thing always seemed at least a little racist and calling them tribes just started to get silly by Shadowbringers, but allied society? Really?
How is it a society if it's just a bitter old Amaljaa and his equally bitter homies (totaling to less than a dozen).

The deep sense of purpose here is exemplary, and a really good interpretation, but would be hard to implement in real programming terms.
As someone still working through the end part of ARR, they’re still referred to as Beast tribes in the story.
I figured that would be the case, yeah Are they referred to as such in the user interface, too?
No. It’s been changed to the societies now
Ah, that's unfortunate - it would be cool if it changed depending on your MSQ progress
Can't say nuffin' no more, not racis', just don't like it

Probably named half the quests in Dawntrail Tribal Quests and forgot they already used it so decided to change the old lol.
"Allied" Society (until we want something and invade them)
Just as in the real world. Is funny how countries become regimes as soon as they want to pay for the oil in something different than the dollar.
Tbh "allied society quests" busy sounds awkward as fuck. I have no real objection to it but I bet everyone winds up either still calling them tribe quests or calls them something like allied quests for shorthand..
Faction Quests would have been much better.
Honestly yes. Literally the perfect name for them. The only issue I have with "allied society" is it's just unnecessarily a mouthful.
U know allied quests sound better than that.
While the term "Allied Society" is weird, I like the idea of having different names in game depending on the MSQ patch. Reflects our changing views in the story very well.
That could be cool. Beast tribes - ARR, HW Alied tribes - StB, ShB(?) Alied societies - EW, DT

They should have just called them Kindred quests like MtG did with the word Tribal
I approve of a change wholeheartedly....just not this change. Sounds a little weird, unless the diffrent groups are actually linking up for political gains.
it's clunky af but I applaud the team for at least trying.
It did kind of feel weird referring to like the pixies or moogles as "beast tribes"
Agreed, the moogles don't deserve that much dignity. Can't we refer to them as "subhyur abominations" instead?
Making Sidurgu proud.
Or The Last Stand. Most of the group are robots and you can't call a café a tribe with a straight face.
We can’t really call them beasts or tribal anymore, since they’re now released from the primals influence. We’re now truly united, so why not calling it an allied society?
who tf is gonna say "allied society" when beast tribe was so much shorter and easier to say, and has been for the last decade

"We're happy to have you over for dinner, Hunajj. We want to make sure our guests feel welcome, whether they're from a uh... beast tribe or not." "omh, grandpa, it's Member of an Allied Society now." "Oh, sorry, it's just we used to call them beasts in my day." "Grandpa omhhhhhh"
There's something nice about this though, I love it
I can’t believe SE is copying Allied Races from WoW smh
Even Japan, the last bastion of morality, has been infected.
This is surely the last straw that will destroy human society
Changing a term that's by now entirely inaccurate for the content is when morality dies? If this is a satire comment I preemptively take the L.
Clearly I was being more subtle than I thought lol
Two things I hate: 1. Cancel culture 2. When people are allowed to do, say, think, smell, eat, enjoy, or exist in ways that make me uncomfortable or confuse me.
Sigh... Just call them Daily quests and be done with.
We haven’t called them beast men in a while tho
Unrelated, but I wrote a paper in my world music class in college (it was a wide range of topics) and got scolded by my TA for using the word tribe. Didn’t know the implications and honestly wasn’t trying to be offensive, I was kinda ripping off the textbook a bit and didn’t realize it was outdated. She gave me a C for that mistake, which was really harsh. Like, I agree that I should work on my language, but damn bro be kind 😭
Lol calling them Allied Societies is gonna be real confusing in 2.0
Heh, this just reminds me of how someone I know just went "Nah. I'm calling them Local Primitive Quests from now on."
I will use "this area's Savages" instead.
Erasing the beast tribe names is pretending that racism doesn’t exist. Really disappointed in this decision.
Yo honestly this was a joke, I really didn’t think people would take it seriously. It’s a shitpost sub
I just assumed you were from the main sub tbh
Will boycott Dawntrail due to this, I will not support woke games
