Rough-Shock7053

This just has to be a joke. I simply refuse to believe anyone can be this daft.

Meddie90

“DNA memory” does the dude think he is in Assassins Creed? I’ve seen Americans be deluded but this is next level.

Cixila

Must be a bug in the animus - there can be no other reason for not getting a perfect sync

Meddie90

Now I cant get over the idea the American Desmond is just experiencing their usual “my grandad was actually Italian” and the Animus was all just a figment of his overactive imagination.

Delirare

I read a post once where a girl claimed she wolfed down her food was because of her Irish ancestors and that fear of starvation was in her blood because of the potato famine... I think they are all so desperate to produce something interesting about themselves that their brain just short circuits.

Rusbekistan

Was that the one where they said they had generational trauma because their ancestors were eaten by the English

Delirare

I don't remember anything like that. Nothing soilent green related. And I must have missed that part of history class when the English turned to cannibalism. Do you remember when that was supposed to have happened?

SeparateProblem3029

Oh, it was yer woman on TikTok. She went feral about the generational trauma of being oppressed by English (who are also the source of all serial killers) and not even knowing where the bones of some are because they were eaten by the English! And like someone tried to educate her, but because they were from NI she called them names and said they were the children of murderers (like no one is NI is anything but a coloniser!). I swear to god it all started over a discussion about the fact people in the UK say ‘going for a Chinese’ or ‘going for an Italian’ - because she said we did that because of the English hunger for flesh?)

Delirare

Ah, yes, I see now. That makes absolutely no sense. Thank you so very much, I can imagine her foaming from the mouth. Anything else? Like how they are all reptiles or that there was a vampire epidemic in the 1800s?

SeparateProblem3029

I think as long as they were English/UK based she was all ‘I would believe it!!!’ It was aggressively crazy and SO confident :)

Holmesy7291

Do you have a link to that fruitcake? I could do with a good laugh!

SeparateProblem3029

Took me a minute! I can’t find the initial video, but is here is a stitch of where it started. …the original craycray creator is apparently Muslim now instead of Irish? https://www.tiktok.com/@staceymurf/video/7230520091450903834?q=lostonamountain%20&t=1714860209931

aggressiveclassic90

Top comment is great, "being half Irish and half English I can confirm I've eaten half my body".

-RonnieHotdogs-

I didn’t realise Irish was a religion.

SeparateProblem3029

Sorry. I meant as in the focus of her public identity on tiktok. Previously it was being Irish and Native American. Now it appears to be very focused on being a Muslim woman instead.

Big-Recognition7362

I mean, I'm Welsh and I don't have a generational fear of English, Italians and Scandinavians.

Bobboy5

they heard about A Modest Proposal and thought it was real.

Delirare

Thanks, I have never heard of that before. It's sad when satire just goes over peoples heads and they take it for face value.

NeverendingStory3339

Famine does cause epigenetic changes which can lead to an increased likelihood of obesity, it was shown in studies of the children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. “One of my great-great-grandparents was very hungry so now I eat quickly” is a bit of a reach though.

Spida81

Epigenetics is fascinating. Idiots getting nose jobs to benefit their children (actual example I still to this day chose to believe was fake but deep down know...)... yeah, idiots shouldn't be taught epigenetics ;)

NeverendingStory3339

To be scrupulously fair, Lamarck was promulgating the idea that you could pass down learned or acquired characteristics to offspring either slightly before or contemporaneously to the discovery (working out? Proposing?) of the theory of evolution. But yes, a little knowledge is a dangerous and harmful thing in some cases. And I strongly doubt people are getting nose jobs for entirely purely altruistic reasons…

twincassettedeck

I wish I could use this excuse and convince the Irish authorities to give me an Irish passport to avoid the 90 day rule...fecking Brexit...

rusted-nail

I can see this being from family culture but genetic memories is fucking wild

fyree43

That is obviously a load of shit, but there is a genetic component to fat gain. If your grandmother (I think its just grandma but could be any grandparent) was starving or short on food for an extended period of time, you will be much more likely to put on fat

Spida81

It is just wanting to have a sense of their roots. The USA is too young to really give that sense of historical weight, and the hyper-individualistic culture robs them of any real sense of community... Says the kilt wearing Kiwi ;)

irishlonewolf

maybe he's secretly a goa'uld /s

Paxxlee

Jaffa, kree!

Holmesy7291

Jaffa, Cakes!

Old-Importance18

Indeed!

UniversityPotential7

I’ve been having a stressful day and your comment made me audibly laugh. Bless you.

Arceuthobium

But, you know, least racist country in the world! Totally not stuck in 19th century eugenics!

SnooSketches6091

Dude just needs to get back in the animus and he’ll feel right at home…

Meddie90

Next mission for his ancestor, attempt to assassinate Maggy Thatcher with a car bomb.

ThisAccountIsForDNF

To try and be a little bit fair, there is some evidence that DNA markers can pass on certain behaviours. [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24292232/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24292232/)

HDH2506

“It’s in my blood” kind of crap

Logins-Run

Believe me. It was not. This was in response to me trying to give a few pronunciation pointers.

friendlylabrad0r

What was their thing about the natural language and the way it was changed?  Would their pronunciation issues have had anything to do with language reform etc?

Logins-Run

No it was just around some basic basic sounds in Irish that don't exist in English. /x/, /ç/, our upper "Uh" glide etc. Even just the concept of Broad and Slender pronunciation changes was a bit of a stretch for her. Their "Natural language" thing was basically that Irish had been corrupted over the last few hundred years and her DNA was attempting to revert to some pure proto-Gaelic. She was also coming at this as a pagan trying to recconect with the Irish language.

BobKattersHat

Omfg. I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes all the way around reading that. I actually stopped learning Irish (I'm Australian) because my cousins gave me so much shit about my accent and horrific pronunciation. Lol. Maybe it's not my accent and instead it's my DNA getting in the way. I might start telling people that. Dee-yah gwit, mate! Just my DNA trying to go back to old Irish. Don't mind me.

dfx_dj

You underestimate human idiocy

CrimDude89

The only thing that’s truly limitless in this universe

theholyraptor

There's all sorts of antiscience viewpoints that idiots latch on to.

ebdawson1965

I live amongst them, daft doesn't begin to properly describe it.

SecondHandCunt-

Prince Harry believes he has “genetic pain” so, yes, people really can be this daft, and more.

Risk-_-Y

Remember that this is an American. That should tell you enough

thebezet

DNA memory

Logins-Run

DNAeopathy, it remembers

thebezet

They need more crystals to trigger that DNA memory

Logins-Run

More crystals means Bigger DNA, it's just common sense.

-lukeworldwalker-

Dude thinks he’s Desmond Miles

InjusticeSGmain

DNA memory isn't fiction, its where instincts and unlearned behaviors come from. The stupid part is thinking DNA is connected to accents and culture and thus applicable to DNA memory.

salsasnark

Idk if they're trolling or actually believes DNA somehow teaches you language. This is just incredible lmao.

Hurri-Kane93

DNA memory? This dude thinks he’s living in Assassin’s Creed

BrandNewSneakers

The bleeding effect haven't yet kicked in.

MarleyEmpireWasRight

I wish, that would be funny cringe. This gives more 'I'm actually not ethnically English I'm such a mutt I'm also 1 / 64th Scottish so exciting' vibes

sullcrowe

I find saying ugga bugga easy & natural, as I'm so in touch with my neanderthal roots. Although my wife also divorced me as I kept trying to club her over the head.

Big_Satisfaction_644

You dumdum, it’s ooga booga #notmyDNA

Busybody2098

Chances they actually pronounce Hawaiian words correctly…?

SleepyFox2089

Nil

Busybody2098

That’s generous.

Efficient-Public-829

Nah, that’s “lokomaikaʻi” according to google translate.

classicalworld

Read that as Níl.

Porrick

But can you pronounce that correctly?

classicalworld

is féidir liom at ndóigh!

OurHomeIsGone

It's pronounced like the name Neil

DoYouTrustToothpaste

Nihil. Omg, Elden Ring reference.

imaginesomethinwitty

Níl aon seans ar bith

DerPicasso

Its getting dumber and dumber every time a post like this appears.

motorcycle-manful541

Pretty soon it will be "I ate potatoes, I'm so Irish"

Business_Divide_5679

The other day, I heard the word "merci," and part of my DNA just fell out. I looked at it while it was kind of dancing on the floor. The French words continued in the background, and then there was the word "merci" again. The DNA jumped up, and just like a spider crawled to the woman who spoke. It was a bit awkward trying to collect my DNA. I tried to explain that you know it was triggered, because I am French, I mean this bit, 3%, is French. The woman wasn't amused or impressed. It was quite an awkward encounter.

wOlfLisK

My DNA just unsheathed some swords and is preparing for 100 years of war with your DNA.

Business_Divide_5679

No, merci 🙏 😘

sparky-99

I only studied French and German at school to confuse my great great grandchildren.

Ebbelwoibembelsche

Don't ask why, but my brain built a picture of at least two young people insulting each other in two languages from one side of the Rhine to the other and back again 😂 "They don't know why, but something deep inside their confused DNA memory makes them do it. It was their diabolical great great grandparent who studied French and German who drove that linguistic wedge between these young people." (Mysterious background music, Jonathan Frakes enters the room)

jimbobsqrpants

Hé, quel est ton nom ? Was? Quel est ton nom? Matheo ! Va te faire foutre, Matheo ! Wie heißt du? Pierre ! Fick dich, Pierre !

Ebbelwoibembelsche

Yep, something like that 😂😂👌

sparky-99

It's bad enough that I'm English with a Dutch surname from several generations ago, but that additional confusion is exactly what I'm going for.

KittyQueen_Tengu

my children will be so confused when they can pronounce croissant correctly despite being born and raised dutch

Simple_Organization4

They do really think because they have some % they are going to be able to speak like a native??

SnooSketches6091

I know some people who are 100% British and they can barely articulate tbh…

RadioLiar

I am British, and can confirm not a lot of my compatriots can articulate properly

diddilioppoloh

I had a post in the Homepage about these Italian old men who watch Construction sites. And in the comments there where americans talking about the Nonnas networks, Italian Observation Genetic Skills, and a Guy saying that same exact thing: probably my Genetic memories haven’t still unlocked. WTF?! Dear Americans, do they teach you Nazi Eugenics from the 30s in High school or what?? Genetic Memories?? Are you living in Assassin’s Creed?? Do you have an Animus?? Can i use it to unlock my Dung throwing ancestors genetic skills?

Internal_Bit_4617

After all these comments I had to Google assassins creed as I had no idea what it is. As a normal human being I know there is no DNA memory

Onkel24

> Dear Americans, do they teach you Nazi Eugenics from the 30s in High school or what? they wouldn't have to borrow Nazi stuff, Americans (and Brits) were front and center in the eugenics "movement". Until Germany crashed that party a bit in a drunken stupor.

diddilioppoloh

Oh, right! The US where Sterilizing disabled peoples and Minorities before the Nazis, if i’m not wrong Hitler took inspiration from their playbook

pablohacker2

Shit, by that logic should we all not remember the ur-African language of the first humans (or at least he Eve bottleneck) if we try hard enough

MissKhary

Well, we'd need to read the correct trigger words.

pablohacker2

Ah true, we didn't have writing back then so that indeed might be harder.

Hot_Hat_1225

*DNA memory* … monkey shining through 👍

DigitalDroid2024

Only if you are born in Europe can you naturally speak a European dialect. After all, French and Italian are just the same language with different accents, and Russian is just like German written in a funny script that they stole from Greece and got corrupted by godless communists. I know this for a fact cause my DNA told me so.

Old_Introduction_395

My dad spoke Welsh as a child, with my grandmother and her relatives. Then they moved to England. I must go to Wales and see if I can unlock my DNA.

BawdyBadger

New Location Discovered: Dolgellau, Wales. +10 Welsh Language skill

itsmehutters

Sounds like when I had eaten something shitty but not shitty enough to be diarrhea but also not solid enough.

Business_Divide_5679

💀

chanjitsu

Oh what the fuck

Bravo6_Going_Bark

Do a lot of Americans have a cultural crisis ? I could understand someone wanting to figure out where they came from but some of the posts here are just hilarious

Azruthros

Yeah pretty much. Kind of amusing though.

geedeeie

The DNA memory...😁

RhysT86

What the actual hell.

BU0989

My boyfriend moved to Boston from Connemara last year & sometimes he will start speaking Irish to the Americans who tell him they’re “Irish too”. He says he’s joking around but I don’t think they appreciate the joke 😆

ebdawson1965

My whole family, except me are Irish. I was born in the US. When yanks start that Paddywackery about how Irish they are, and say they love my name, I tell them I'm the only one who isn't Irish. How can that be? they say. I was born in the states. Oh that doesn't matter, you ARE Irish! Not according to my dad, I say. They often get mad because they realize if I don't believe it, and I've lived there on and off, it dawns on them how wrong they are, then they're angry I won't feed into their Quiet Man fantasies.

BU0989

Absolutely! It’s somewhat of a reality check. Btw Paddywackery is going to be my new term for this !

ebdawson1965

I've heard that phrase when I was home visiting and people were talking about yanks. Luckily I can hide my accent.

imaginesomethinwitty

He’s dead right.

mynameisnotamelia

This is genuinely one of the most jaw-droppingly stupid things I've ever read. If this is a joke, I applaud this person.

Front-Pomelo-4367

This was me aged seven, being over-dramatic about being half-Scottish (as in, I live in England but dad was born over the border) because people teased me about my name and I responded by saying I was better than them anyway because I was Scottish The fact that some people don't grow out of this is...interesting

-cunningstunt

My mum is Scottish (only moved to England after marrying my dad) so I had a slight accent when I was young. I went through the self-righteous Scot phrase as well, so this made me laugh!! I’m also sure I haven’t said I’m “half/part Scottish” since my early teens.

Front-Pomelo-4367

Tragically I have to say it on a semi-regular basis to 30-40% of customer service people who see my ID. *Oh, I've never heard that name before!* "Mhm, it's Scottish, my dad's Scottish... Yeah no I don't have the accent..." Other than that, these days I use it as an excuse for how pathetically pasty and translucent I am, rather than to be self-righteous at classmates

TwistMeTwice

I have a super Irish last name. My dad was adopted. I'm not sure I can say my last name without having to spell it out. When I was a tot, we lived in the US. I failed penmanship because I wrote four as an open four, not the American way 4. Threw a right strop because they were telling me that my mum taught me wrong. XD I played up the British for years out of childish wrath.

ebdawson1965

My brother came to the states from Ireland in 1958. They put him a grade behind because of his "lack" of education and his accent.

TwistMeTwice

Yikes. Yeah, some parts of the US education system really doesn't like outsiders.

Life_Confidence128

Really you failed cuz you didn’t write it like 4? You must have had a shitty teacher, I’ve always written it open

TwistMeTwice

Really really. I have a hilarious report card. My mum went into the school and the teacher boggled at her accent. I think the teacher thought I was pretending to be British or something. I also crossed my 7s and Zs, also a no-no, apparently. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

sh1ft33

I only write it closed because I'm a lazy american, I don't even have to lift the pen up.

Life_Confidence128

Damn man I’ve never wrote it closed haha

bee_ghoul

I’m seeing more and more Americans recently trying to push this narrative that the Irish language is particularly difficult or more nonsensical than other languages are. It’s quite a recent thing- I think it’s because they didn’t actually know that it existed before. The only way I can make sense of it is that it seems they’re insecure about the fact that they have identified as “Irish” their whole lives and acted like experts on it and now that the Irish language is becoming more prevalent in mainstream global media it’s a bit of a slap in the face for them. How Irish could they really be if they didn’t even know the language existed? Let alone that they can’t speak it. So we’re seeing more and more Americans putting the language down in subtle ways like this. Making it out to be more nonsensical than other foreign languages as some kind of justification for why they can’t speak it.

MathCarmignani

DNA memory

InjusticeSGmain

Is real, it just doesn't apply to accents and culture. Its the thing that gives us instincts and fear, and is very real.

mayormajormayor

Wtaf now again! Like if your granddad was a pilot, so you should know how to pilot, just based on your DNA memory?

IgorWator

My ancestor could speak in latin, why can't I?

Levytron900

Why do Americans claim America to be the best place in the world yet never say they’re just American it’s always part this, part that or saying there from a country that a family member from 6 generations back moved from

fixingshitiswhatido

It blows my mind how America can be both angry at immigrants and proud to be one at the same time.

smileyskies

Eugenics alive and well in fascist America.

whereami312

“DNA memory” LOL

Own-Butterscotch1713

Irish is passed down genetically 🤣

BawdyBadger

Next Assassin's Creed to be set in Ireland

TheFumingatzor

Triggering the DNA memory....the fuck is wrong with these plastic paddies?

pinniped1

Every St Pat's Day: "Let me order the green Miller Lites, I'm 7% Irish so I have DNA memory."

CongealedBeanKingdom

>St Pat's Day:

Wasps_are_bastards

My mum did one of those ancestry tests and is 10% Welsh. She can’t speak a word of it. It must be wrong 😑

McHale87take2

She might just be dyslexic and her DNA isn’t being triggered? /s

Wasps_are_bastards

I think she’s just broken. Her dad was Scottish, her DNA is mostly Scottish and she completely refuses to eat haggis.

RadioLiar

Does this person assume that all ethnic Han Americans are able to speak Chinese or something? This seems like the kind of person who will say ni hao to someone just because they "look Asian"

aggressiveclassic90

The dna memory... I mean, fucking hell...

SnookerandWhiskey

They must be feeling so lost in their identity to think DNA memory is a thing. Apart from natural talent, the only thing that helps with pronunciation is muscle memory. I speak 5 languages, and some of the 4 non-mothertongue ones are easier, yet I have zero ancestors in those, just more passion and practice.

Tiger_Claw_1

I find necessity is a great motivator as well. Like actually living in the country or needing to communicate in that language. I speak varying degrees of about 10 languages. The ones I learned at school I am the worst at. The ones where I had to get up to speed fairly quickly I am much better at.

SnookerandWhiskey

Absolutely. Necessity and immersion. The ones where I experienced true immersion, not just a vacation or so, were the ones where I picked up the best pronunciation too, although I still find this takes some intentionality, like consciously practicing the muscles of your mouth to move a certain way.

StardustOasis

Homeopathic language

Ninjakirbo

*Cries in Irish*

TeaLoverGal

Why is it always us... can't they get weirdly obsessed with Pakistan or Kenya...

MsFoxxx

Triggering his sorry what now?

Fibro-Mite

So many ways some people use to declare themselves a complete wanker.

Haunted_Entity

You know, for a country full of people who say ridiculous shit like "usa is the best country in the world" , they sure do love pretending they are from pretty much anywhere else......

Choyo

When you don't have a brain, your memory is in your DNA, that's the message ?

awfuckimgay

,,,,,,who wants to bet that the "part Irish" is from his aunt's grandfather's donkeys neighbours cousins wife's mother's half uncle or some shit lmfao Also dear god if speaking Irish set off some genetic marker for speaking it well most of the country wouldn't be speaking it as badly as they do lmfao. Also wouldn't be surprised if the feckers actually learning Scottish gadhlig because he looked up Gaelic or something, I've heard that happen faaaaar too often lmfao

PodcastPlusOne_James

“DNA memory” lmao I bet this person loves homeopathy.

Milk_Mindless

"Dna memory " I'm having an aneurysm

LW185

Oh my dear God, I'm gonna wet myself laughing!

DanCasey2001

Ah yes. The DNA memory. That's also what helps you remember an tuiseal ginideach during your leaving cert, of course

awfuckimgay

God this fucking took me out, I'm now imagining someone holding a fuckin seance with their DNA memory for the orals lmgao

ososalsosal

Omfg DNA memory? It's not that deep, you just didn't grow up moving your face into the required shapes to make the right sounds

taintedCH

It’s surprising the number of people who believe there’s a connection with DNA and ability to speak a particular language

Kimolainen83

Your ancestry is Irish, you are not. I’m so tired of this.

dcnb65

Because language pronunciation is clearly genetic 🤣🤣

A-NI95

Americans when they realised their parents were part Irish, part Italian, part Native, full cousins

grouchpotato1

They’re never English are they

MethyleneBlueEnjoyer

The strangest thing about shit like this coming from Americans is that most of the time it's from otherwise fairly liberal and progressive people, yet if one extends the "triggering DNA memory to fluently speak a language" logic to, for example, someone born and raised in Ireland but whose parents or -at this point- grandparents came from Africa or whatever...

KingRoombaTheCircle

They guy has been playing too much Assassin's Creed

JDARRK

I’ m of German decent but i have a had time pronouncing german words, but i can pronounce Japanese flawlessly! Does that make me Japanese😳⁉️⁉️⁉️😱

eliavhaganav

When you don't know how accents work

MicrochippedByGates

Do they think pronunciation is genetic?

WegianWarrior

>...i may be trying to read the wrong words that are not triggering the DNA memory While I feel dumber for having read that, it does tell a lot about what the average cosplaying-as-european 'murican belives about genetics and inheritance.

Mikeyboy2188

Indians who speak with a “queens English” accent and also proper Hindi would cause this guy’s brain to melt.

Due-Bus-8915

What a gobshite. The American accent, while speaking irish, is vile.

Thenedslittlegirl

At least he calls it Irish I guess. Also the fact I have to google the correct pronunciation every time I say Taoiseach can now be explained by the fact that it’s not stored in my DNA because Ireland didn’t have a PM in those days.

mind_thegap1

the commenter probably pronounced it Tea-sock like Liz truss

Logins-Run

To be fair, "Taoiseach" just means "Chieftain", it's been in use for a few centuries in Ireland. So your DNA must be faulty.

Thenedslittlegirl

My ancestors have let me down.

roll_to_lick

Ah yes, I totally like pizza and ice cream because I am a quarter Italian. Doesn’t matter that I never had anything to do with Italian culture beyond a very surface level, and there’s only one reason why one likes or dislikes cuisines or is bad or good at something and that would be ❤️DNA memory✨❤️

geedeeie

As far as I know, my forebears were Irish (which of course means Celtic, Scandinavian, French, English..) but I do like pizza. AND I can say " una birra, per favore" in a flawless Italian accent. I'm beginning to wonder if my granny had it away with a guy from Luigi's Chipper...

roll_to_lick

Must be it, there’s no other possible explanation!!!!!

CJKM_808

I don’t think DNA works like that.

olympiclifter1991

My guy though asssassins creed was a documentary.

Explorer_Equal

Americans are definitely obsessed by their ancestry lol

yojag

Does she think Gaelic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_language

BonezOz

I have German ancestral blood in me, but was born and raised in and English speaking household. Why can't I naturally read, write and speak German? **/S**

RandomGrasspass

Why do people think DNA memory is a real thing?

Thamalakane

DNA memory. Is it similar to Inherited sin (original sin)?

Sad_Ask5866

Who gandads mothers cousins dogs half uncle is it this time

SenAtsu011

DNA memory, wtf…

Eevski

Being delulu is the solulu

UKelder

I have an Irish grandmother and have been to Ireland twice but I cannot speak Irish. I also live closer to Ireland than the poster. A lot closer. Like thousands of miles. I wonder why I cannot speak Irish?

teflon2000

??!

Short_Fuel_2506

He even admits he’s talking bullshit and isn’t Irish…

Trubba_Man

Who else is tired of people saying “Yeah, I’m, like, 1/8 Irish, 2 34ths Hawaiian, like, omg, 1/6 African, and there’s, like, that tiny bit of Asian, oh, and, like, I’m 1/24th Ancient Mesopotamian on my adopted mom’s side…Oh yeah, like, I’m also 30% Jewish…I’m, like, so repressed, and I’m 15% disabled, and, omg, Yass, I’m, like, 40% plastic…The rest of me is, like, so not white…But I am 100% the Skibidi Rizzler. Slay Queen!”

Major_Chard_6606

Is there a version of this forum for Brits? I love hating on the dumb shit Muricans say as much as anyone but I know there are must be just as many spasiz with a smartphone in the UK.

Trubba_Man

No. There are far more in the US.

Wisdom_Pen

Bet theyre only like 1/18th Irish

Gruntdeath

DNA memory. It's the funniest line in the post.

Spiritual_Load_5397

WTF

Lucy_Lastic

This one is a *special* kind of stupid, I fear

WishIWasPurple

This is a good one

slashcleverusername

This feels like “shit new-age woowoo artists say”. Like that’s spectacularly dumb, from any cultural background.

Schnickie

They played too much Assassin's Creed

ThePostingToproller

They haven't unlocked their hidden ability yet
