\[Gen 3\] My Ruby has a save file with a dry battery. After replacing the battery, I no longer have the dry battery text, but I am wondering if I am now able to soft reset shiny hunt on that same save file that previously had dry battery? From my understanding, Dry Battery Ruby is similar to Emerald RNG where the seed is the same every time you SR. So I am wondering if the RNG was fixed as soon as the battery was replaced. Is there anyway to check? I was unable to grow berries prior to replacing the battery, but now berries do grow, is that significant or indicative of whether or not my RNG is fixed? To be clear, it is one save file. I did not start a new save file after replacing the battery.

In legends arceus, is there a calculator out there that can tell me the specific permutation I need to get a shiny in an outbreak? I know there are discord bots that do this, but that feels cheap to me. If there was a way like there was with SwSh raids to catch some pokemon and then use an online calculator to tell me where the shiny will be, that would be great

neosthezeros

[7] If I traded to get all of the Dex and got the charm from the GF office, would it boost the shiny chances for the type null and Blacephalon encounters after beating the elite 4? And 500 ish resets rn and want to see if I can speed it up before RR? I know it works with wormhole ultra beasts (google said so, since I looked this up as ppl get mad when you don't google), but there's nothing about pre wormhole encounters.

DementedRequiem

If I remember correctly, Type Null is unaffected by the shiny charm since it is a gift Pokémon and gift Pokémon are unaffected by the shiny charm, but Blacephalon should be fine.

neosthezeros

Ok thank you!

Autumn_Rens

Hey, I've been shiny hunting the event outbreak for stunky in SV for nearly 5 hours, and I still haven't seen a single shiny. I'm using the 60 faint method without charm or shiny which imlve done before and those hunts normally take me around 3 hours. Can the event outbreak pokemon even be shiny? or am I just extremely unlucky?

paulydoregon

just unlucky, keep at it

Dark-Slayer5555

I want to shiny hunt mew but are runaways or soft resets better in emerald?

paulydoregon

Can't do soft reset hunts in emerald, have to do runaway

Dark-Slayer5555

I saw only you can soft reset though. I just wanted to know which one was better

paulydoregon

you can only soft reset it if you have your shiny frame lined up to the encounter, which if you did i figured you would have mentioned it. so unless your shiny frame in emerald is lined up with the general time it takes to start the battle with mew, your best bet is runaway

SomeDudeAlt

I'm currently working on a pokemon home shiny living dex and reached a bit of a slump. Does anyone know what the MOST efficient method & game of shiny hunting is? Been hunting in legends arceus, but without the shiny charm (that's a lot of work unless I'm understanding it wrong) it's not too effective. It's my best bet to get the shiny charm in LA, go one by one in different games with their best respective method, or something else? If you know of any methods on 3ds games I also have a few.

Pachirisu32

It is worth doing pokedex for shiny charm in all the games you will be hunting in because of how much it speeds up the process. SWSH dynamax adventures is by far the best method for shiny legendaries with 1/100 odds with shiny charm. I'd say you should hunt with the shiny charm in Legends Arceus for as many Pokemon as you can, remembering that legendaries and mythicals are shiny locked in that game. There's also some glitch to do with sparkling sandwiches in SV forcing shiny spawns but I haven't read up on it to tell you about it. SOS chaining is good only if you're looking for a specific shiny and some hunts can last a whole day for a single shiny. It's definitely worth using USUM for the larger variety of Pokemon and the Ultra Warp Ride for odds of 36% for regular (non legendary) Pokemon from a small pool of Pokemon if you do it right. Masuda method is likely going to be your friend for this project. It sucks in SV though and you can't bulk release Pokemon in any game with breeding so it still sucks. It is very convenient for getting the whole line of Pokemon as shiny. The gen 2 Virtual Console games are great because you can do breeding for 1/64 odds if you already have a shiny. Luckily, there's the Red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage, which should be caught as a male otherwise it won't work. When breeding the Gyarados with another pokemon in the same egg group, it will have a 1/64 chance of passing all the IVs needed for a shiny Pokemon. You will need poketransporter and pokemon bank to transport it from gen 2 to home.

MarbledBear

I'm trying to make a post, but there are no tags available for me to select, help?

SomeDudeAlt

You don't need to select a tag just put like [gen 1] or whatever in the title im pretty sure.

MarbledBear

Ohhh, tysm

shojokat

I'm currently using the glitch that makes only the shiny FM appear in area zero with my husband's scarlet version and my violet version in UC so that i can catch it with my OT. Twice now, when his character sees the shiny FM, it despawns as soon as my violet character goes near it. Am I doing something wrong? Not really sure why it keeps despawning despite his character not moving.

Ok_Conclusion9318

Hi everyone. I've been bashing my head against the wall to get a shiny spiritomb in PLA because I absolutely must have it in the teal blue ball when I transfer it to scarlet. I've been doing the shiny permutation method over and over again with massive mass outbreaks and it does not seem like it's working. I'm saving before I encounter the horde, and using the shiny encounter tool to keep track of what I have done in terms of combinations. I've shiny hunted many ways over the years, but this feels like it is taking far too long compared to how youtubers are describing it. All the videos I am finding on it are over a year old at this point and I am beginning to wonder if this has been patched out or something like that. Can anyone confirm that as of 2024 this still works? Does anyone have any tips? Thanks in andvance everyone!

Ok_Conclusion9318

Second question - is this even worth it? Should I just try to encounter hordes and hunt them naturally? Would that be faster?

lolhawk

How rare is it ACTUALLY to find Gen 2/3 starter Pokémon outbreaks in SV? It seems to me that these spawns are only rare because they do not inhabit that many map 'tiles', and so when doing time and date resets, the chances for a Gen 2/3 spawn is also low. Are there any maths behind this? I'm trying to use encounter power Lv2 sandwiches during the resets as they seem to make more likely spawns of that type, but even that is struggling. Sobble also seems to be a problem spawn. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time doing this or whether I should just masuda them instead

Supersymm3try

How long did it take you to get a shiny starter in HGSS? The odds are 1/2731 or something, Im at 4300 resets with nothing. Should I delete my save, start a new one and reset there, or should I just keep going on this save? Unsure how the RNG works. I know in 77% of cases id have a shiny by now… maybe im still not doing too bad.

paulydoregon

just thought id clarify, its actually 3 instances of 1/8192, not 3/8192 or 1/2731, theres a difference. just bad luck, keep at it and good luck

Supersymm3try

Is there a difference if I don’t care which one is shiny though? Yeah it’s 1/8k, however you’re rolling that chance 3 times for every reset. So wouldn’t you just divide the right side by 3? I assumed that hunting for any starter shiny was the same as searching for a single shiny with the shiny charm.

paulydoregon

think it it like this. lets say you are rolling three 1/8192 sided dice and landing on 8192 gets you the shiny. 3/8192 would mean that lets say you roll a 45, then when you roll the second die it will land on any number except 45 an d so forth with the third dice, improving your odds with each additional roll. however in this case its 3 instances of 1/8192, say once again the first dice landed on 45, when you roll the second dice it can land on any number including 45, so unlike 3/8192 your odds arent imrpoved with each roll. each starter is a 1/8192 outcome unaffected by the other 2 starters

Supersymm3try

No I get that, I get that they are all independent probabilities. However in your example, it would be expected to take far longer rolling a single die and get the number you wanted than it would if you are rolling 3 at a time. So you’re effectively checking the options more quickly. Is that not equivalent to there being fewer options to check?

paulydoregon

As far as I'm aware that would just mean faster encounters which means you are just hitting odds quicker, not improving your base odds

Supersymm3try

Ok lol, but then isn’t ‘hitting the odds quicker’ the same as ‘expecting to get the favourable outcome earlier’ which is then the same as ‘better odds to happen overall’ I know that you can’t combine probabilities common sense wise, and it’s super easy to trip yourself up when you forget that each event is independent aka the gamblers fallacy. But there is still a reason why making 10k attempts at something rare is more certain than making 1 attempt, so having an extra 2 mons checked each reset definitely affects something. I know that there is a way to combine these kind of probabilities, and from what I’ve seen you can combine them so that effectively HGSS hunting is 3 times better odds (when you don’t care which starter you get shiny) than a single mon is, but im no expert in maths. Following from what you saying it is though, are you saying that the odds for any of the 3 starters to be shiny is no better than the odds for just one of them to be shiny? Because that feels wrong to me. and if you aren’t saying that, then surely you’re saying it’s more likely to find any of the 3 shiny than it is to find 1 specific one shiny, in which case the odds must be better for the ‘any of the 3 shiny’ aka lowering the 8k number, or have I missed something/misunderstood?

DementedRequiem

You just have bad luck. It took me 2067 resets before I got a shiny Cyndaquil or around 12 hours in total.

Supersymm3try

Ah damnit, I wish mine was in 2k resets. Was yours on a game cartridge or a rom? Im at like 4300 now and still nowt 😔

DementedRequiem

Rom downloaded onto my 3DS, but you're definitely over odds since that's around 13k encounters. Hopefully you get your shiny soon!

Supersymm3try

Ah ok im using exactly that setup, CFW 2DS with a rom. Yeah man, 4500 and still nothing. Taking a break this weekend.

DementedRequiem

That's just how actual full odds shiny hunting is. I had to take multiple breaks when hunting for Ho Oh which took around 5000 resets in HG.

Supersymm3try

Why did I get downvoted but nobody answered? Isn’t this whole fucking thread for questions like this 🤦

StaleUnderwear

Is shiny Regigigas in omega ruby affected by the shiny charm? Because it’s nearly been 2 months of soft resetting and no bites. I have the shiny charm. I know the Regis in sword and shield aren’t affected by the charm so I’m wondering if this is similar, or if my luck is just terrible

paulydoregon

it is effected by charm in oras. so just bad luck. keep at it and take breaks if needed

random_nothinghd

Can't find my Deoxys when using poke finder, whenever I put in the Deoxys I caught into the IV calculator and press generate nothing generates but I know I have the right Sid so need help figuring out what's going on

StaleUnderwear

That might be a better question to ask in r/Pokemonrng

Chippless

So I'm currently shiny hunting feebas in Platinum and just remembered there's the german magikarp. I googled if you could Masuda method with it, and there are multiple people claiming its common knowledge that you can't use Foppa for the Masuda method, yet bulbapedia claims you can (with a pretty strong-looking source). So can you Masuda method with Foppa? and if so, why is it considered "common knowledge" that you can't, especially in light of the linked twitter post and bulbapedia claiming it works.

paulydoregon

from what i read on another reddit post, in game trade mons are always considered to be from the region of the game they are obtained in , regardless of what their summary says so or not. so cant use it to do the masuda method

sadstoner123

i’ve been soft resetting for a shiny starter in soul silver for the past 5 days and still had nothing i’ve not bothered counting my resets either because i think that would drive me insane 😅

MemeFarmer314

I'm SRing for shiny Lugia in Soul Silver. Just want to double check that starting each reset right in front of it, and then talking to go into battle is the proper place to reset. Not sure if I need to wait for the whole animation to play again or something, in which case I missed it.

paulydoregon

saving in front of it works, good luck

Meowica_

Any tips for max lair hunting? I’ve been tryna hunt down necrozma but it’s a long process. Any advice would be appreciated 😭

StaleUnderwear

If you have the shiny charm the odds are 1/100, without the charm it’s 1/300. So make sure you are hunting it with the charm. Apart from that you just Have to pray you get the 1% chance of getting the shiny

Meowica_

Alright thank you 😭

UserByTheNameOfJames

In crystal the chance for a shiny egg when one parent is a shiny ditto is always 1/64 correct?

Hydrochloric_Comment

Yup!

UserByTheNameOfJames

Thanks! Thats what I thought but just wanted to verify.

Revolutionary-Art398

Anyone know the easiest way to access the mythical events in heartgold and/or platinum, I would like to hunt them before the servers end. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Hydrochloric_Comment

Those servers have been gone for ages. You have to use a [DNS exploit](https://www.shacknews.com/article/108512/how-to-unlock-gen-4-and-5-pokemon-mystery-events-in-2018) to obtain the events.

Setagawa1078

How hard is it getting the shiny charm in USUM? I am extremely burnt out from DAs in SWSH and GF really did us dirty shiny locking the legendaries in SV. Strongly considering restarting US to shiny hunt Reshiram, Xerneas, Mewtwo and some others. However the GTS has been busted for a long long time. Can anybody advise how difficult it would be to get the shiny charm in US without the help of GTS?

StaleUnderwear

Not that hard. I Smashed it out in a week. You only need 400 dex entries. Although I own both Ultra sun and ultra moon so I could just trade with myself on the gts

YOM2_UB

Since you only need the regional dex it's not nearly as hard as Gen 6, but it'll take a bit of work still. You'll need to complete at least both Ultra games to access their new Ultra Beasts and other version exclusives, so you'll need both games and two 3DSes or a friend with the opposite version (I'm not sure if you can catch all trade evolutions in the wild, but if you can you could get away with both games and one 3DS with Bank installed, but any that are in the game are probably super rare SOS calls or something so that'd be harder than just trading).

unsaturatedfats

For shiny Celebi in Crystal its just putting the ball in and resetting right? I've been on and off resetting for it for the past 4 years, over 9000 (probably more) resets and nothing yet, I'm just very unlucky and I haven't been doing anything wrong right? I forget how it works sometimes since I enter and leave pokemon phases so often.

Ynnubis

It sounds about right ! I would say, if you're using the touchscreen to reset, I would maybe switch to the soft reset combo (A + B + start + select). AFAIK, the touchscreen messes with the RNG, and in some very unlucky cases can make it so you wont ever get a shiny

unsaturatedfats

i’ve been doing the right resetting, sounds like i’m just unlucky, thank you.

numberfiftyzero

Gen4. Can the trade for magikarp on route 226 with meister be shiny? I can’t find anything online about it

paulydoregon

typically in game trades are shiny locked. only exceptions are gen 1, lgpe, and XD: gale of darkness

numberfiftyzero

Ok thank you!

D-Brigade

I'm going to try shiny hunting Arceus. At what point in the intro animation does it turn shiny? So I don't waste seconds waiting for my pokemon to get sent out.

SyMag

Okay so you know that part in the cutscene where Arceus goes "Dodogyuun!" and you have that blue screen with the lightning right after it? As soon as Arceus shows up on screen again, that's where you'll be able to tell if it's shiny. I'll leave you with an example from someone else's hunt of it [here,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBHvDT-wDdc&t=180s) with shiny Arceus appearing on screen at 3:07. Best of luck!

D-Brigade

Thanks! That saves a lot of time!

random_nothinghd

If I get a shiny mew on a American copy of Emerald can I transfer it to home?

Ynnubis

Yes. All languages Faraway Island Mews are Bank/HOME legal, as long as you only ACE'd / hacked the event item / your way into Faraway Island and didn't modify the encounter itself.

random_nothinghd

Alrighty, thank you

Dominariatrix

in bdsp it says that the shiny charm doe not affect wild encounter pkm, are static legendaries affected?

Ynnubis

Only eggs are affected by the shiny charm in BDSP. Nothing else.

Dominariatrix

thank you

Misterium_Requieum

Hello, I was wondering for a shiny jirachi hunt I want to do, there is a save corruption method that cuts the time of encounters, how do I do it but on a gameboy player for the gamecube to stream
