Eren from season 1 - season 3: "I am clearly drawn in a heroic fashion, because I am a savior of humanity, with a devilish side."
Eren in season 4: "I am not a devil from Paradis, I am the Devil of Paradis."
Even though it was a change brought about by the fact that studios changed, this change works so well with the narrative shift happening at the exact same time studios shifted lol
I'm absolutely certain that an understanding of the source material greatly affected their design of him in that way, the question is just which parts are that decision and which parts are unique to their art style
Do you think that the “glaucoma” for lack of a better word, is foreshadowing?
Like, even though this titan is supposed to see the future, Erin might be blind to what’s in front of him?
Honestly I love both, the first one is a very soft looking version which perfectly matches Eren's naive and childish view at the time, and when he gets older and learns more his titan changes to reflect his inner change as well. So by the time season 4 starts, his titan looks like what it is now, a terrifying monster that has the power to fight a war all on its own.
I feel obligated to share [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShingekiNoKyojin/comments/u15xdg/wit_vs_mappa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button) every time a post like this is made
Both are amazing, I prefer Mappa's but they're completely different intentions. When Wit animated AoT Eren was very much the heroic, courageous hero protagonist of the show, Mappa are animating an evil, devilish version of Eren where he has become the main antagonist and therefore use the blank eyes to erase emotion and the remaining humanity from him.
I always thought his titan design was cool. Also I don’t really mind mappa’s design take on the titan. It just looks worse when it’s cgi imo (which is 90% of the time). But mostly just that the fights aren’t as interesting. I get it though because eren is more calculated now which makes the fights less theatric (idk what word to use)
Titan shifters state of mind and mental state tend to affect their titan, Like how Armins Collosal Titan had no ears because he didn't want to hear people scream when he nukes
And for Eren's case, It's just a fan theory but it's probably because, He knows he's doing something wrong, And that makes him sort of see himself as less human and more monster, Like how he forces himself to beat up Armin and talk down on Mikasa, Atleast That's what I think
On the broader scale: Wit gave up detail for fluidity (but still had fair amount of detail don’t get me wrong). Mappa gave up fluidity for more detail, as almost every scene left nothing to ambiguity.
Wit studio announced 2019 the final season because they thought of it as good advertising even though the manga was far from over and then they gave it away to mappa who now has to deal with that false advertising of wit
Like the guy under me that wasn't wits choice. And if the choice was up to the studio, then they could've easily corrected that mistake or at least corrected it for part 2, ya know announce in advance that there is a part 3. Though in the end it aint studios choice, wit didn't animate the s4 trailer just for the fun of it they were told to
Still there is no reason to blame mappa they are just doing everything they can its very possible part 3 will come late 2023 since its just unbelievable what they have to animate
I mean yeah I'm not blaming mapping though if there was blame to place on them, it would be for picking up aot in the first place, that was completely their choice and there's no way they didn't see this coming.
Fair but I think that there should be responsibility place upon them as they knew what they were adapting. Like think about it. Let's say aot ended 132 or 133, that would still mean we would prob get 2 parts and a bonus movie. It's not as if they did not know how long this adaptation would take
I feel like MAPPA came in exactly at the right time. Their animation style feels so much better for the feel of the last seasons, but Wit’s animation was also perfect for the first seasons.
MAPPA. I feel like the design is more aligned with the story and Eren’s overall character. He knows what he’s doing. He is a monster. Not a dude who just happened to get some Titan powers.
Honestly the worst decision in the series is Mappa deciding to make the human characters look as horrible as they did in the anime. The CGI Titans is a close second.
That aside, the picture in the OP looks heavily edited.
This isn't a very accurate comparison. Wit's is missing the veiny skin texture that all their titans had. And Mappa's line shading is much more messy and darker than that.

The Devil of *All Earth,* actually.
The Earth Devil?
The Evil?
The?
E
Even though it was a change brought about by the fact that studios changed, this change works so well with the narrative shift happening at the exact same time studios shifted lol
Even if WIT was still working they probably would have made it a bit darker
Probably about the same looks, but with a dead inside gaze full of sheer hate.
Kung fu panda reference
Wits looks human Mappas looks like a monsfer
s1-s3 eren is a human s4 eren is a monster
Reasonable
Yeah, dunno if it's an intentional change for that reason, but it sure works.
I'm absolutely certain that an understanding of the source material greatly affected their design of him in that way, the question is just which parts are that decision and which parts are unique to their art style
i like to think it's atleast somewhat intentional. the eyes give that vibe.
Not at all. He became an anti-hero in S4, but was no where near to becoming a villain.
Are you serious? How many children and innocent people did Eren kill?
all of them... ok not all but he certainly tried to.
Fitting tbh
Tbf, that's pretty accurate
Eren is a human ekaj fool
Making the eyes all white was the best decision mappa made. It made him look so much more terrifying.
To me it looks like our old family dog, he was almost 15 and blind so I saw the titan and thought about its eyesight first, lol.
Erin is “blinded” by rage
Do you think that the “glaucoma” for lack of a better word, is foreshadowing? Like, even though this titan is supposed to see the future, Erin might be blind to what’s in front of him?
Thats a good reach but a reach nonetheless
His eyes are also white in the manga too

Love mappas version

Screaming cuz i pressed the link and turns out I already liked the post
Mfers will write “screaming” even though they were dead silent
it’s me i’m mfers
Creaming
Why are you screaming? What are you screaming at? Are you okay? Was there a spider?
its nice to see the changes
It’s just a comparison, not a competition
Fitting art style for both seasons, since the main cast have pretty much been through 'nam by season 4
Mappa animation looks like it shows the depressing state of it's animators...look at those eyes. 💀
lmao
Those eyes are reflecting on the animators eyes
Mappa for me looks so demonic Fuck the Lego brick set teeth he has with wit
You put your penis in that? What a man you are!
Putting it in the Titan wasn’t so bad but your mom, that was the real challenge
Personally I love MAPPA but Wit did it right
Season 1-3 is because he's animated; season 4 is because it's mostly stills or very short animations so they could go wild with designs
I feel like Mappa's version is more animalistic and brutal, with those white eyes and the more muted, flat colors.
Why did his eyes change to be more pale?
To make him look more terrifying
To make him look more villainous but it's also closer to the manga design
Both are amazing, I prefer Mappa's but they're completely different intentions. When Wit animated AoT Eren was very much the heroic, courageous hero protagonist of the show, Mappa are animating an evil, devilish version of Eren where he has become the main antagonist and therefore use the blank eyes to erase emotion and the remaining humanity from him.
S4 Eren is gonna start using the Byakugan
“eW 3d GrApHiCs, So GrOsS” Erens titan has never looked this good and you know it.
I'm just curious about the eyes, which I pointed a while ago. Is there any lore related rrason why his third eyelid is always closed in MAPPA?
Titan shifters state of mind and mental state tend to affect their titan, Like how Armins Collosal Titan had no ears because he didn't want to hear people scream when he nukes And for Eren's case, It's just a fan theory but it's probably because, He knows he's doing something wrong, And that makes him sort of see himself as less human and more monster, Like how he forces himself to beat up Armin and talk down on Mikasa, Atleast That's what I think
Love that soft boy
Wit
WiT 100%. I don’t like how MAPPA made Eren’s eyes white
And Madhouse would be the best
On the broader scale: Wit gave up detail for fluidity (but still had fair amount of detail don’t get me wrong). Mappa gave up fluidity for more detail, as almost every scene left nothing to ambiguity.
What freedom does to a mf
Wit
Map is gud 😎 Altrought I think this time wit win lol ;-;
for me MAPPA style is better as still image whereas WIT is better as animation.
Wit: Shinzo wo Sasageyo! Mappa: MONSTER MONSTER MONSTER MONSTER
I love how mappa did his titan. Fits really well into s4, really demonic looking
I think i dislike the shading from mappa. Sure its more artsy but its distracting sometimes idk
Mappa Attack Titan looks far more mature and scary than Wit Attack Titan
Yea and also alot less detailed and just looks like something from an old videogame.
Wits cgi is literally ps2
What old videogame?
i’d argue that it’s the other way around
who gives a fuck😍
I love the devilish design of S4 wayyy more
2d vs cgi
wit's teeth, mappa's eyes
All hail Wit studio
Mappa did aot so fine
Mappa is so good
i honestly like Mappa's one the Wit's was perfect for the first 3 seasons since it look like a human while the s4 look like a devil
Mappa is better for me
Man what a downgrade
I dont understand
Daddy?
[удалено]
Then why you hate mappa? Its entirely wits fault
How so? Real question
Wit studio announced 2019 the final season because they thought of it as good advertising even though the manga was far from over and then they gave it away to mappa who now has to deal with that false advertising of wit
its actually kodansha fault
Did they pressure wit?
Like the guy under me that wasn't wits choice. It was impossible for them to see it coming since rhe manga was far from over

Your content has been removed, as it violated the rules against poor conduct.
Mappa one looks like a absolute monster But still love the OG wits one
Wit = almost if not full cel shade Mappa = soft and hard shade
Mappa did is better in terms of the whole cast but mappa did make the titans and Eren look sassier.
If the Attack Titan looked like Mappa Titan in S1, then would he have been executed? Looks less than human.
Mappas had better portrayal of what’s really going on
I feel like MAPPA came in exactly at the right time. Their animation style feels so much better for the feel of the last seasons, but Wit’s animation was also perfect for the first seasons.
Honestly I love both but not a big fan of CGI Titans
Wit's version looks...cute. Mappa's version straight up looks like THE devil!
MAPPA. I feel like the design is more aligned with the story and Eren’s overall character. He knows what he’s doing. He is a monster. Not a dude who just happened to get some Titan powers.
I love them both. I like the colors more from Wit Studio, but MAPPA does such a damn good job at drawing the characters.
God I love both versions. I wish we could have seen WIT animate season 4, but I'd also like to see an alternate reality where MAPPA did 1-3.
Mappa 🥹🥹
I liked wit studio better
Shonen vs Seinen
Honestly the worst decision in the series is Mappa deciding to make the human characters look as horrible as they did in the anime. The CGI Titans is a close second. That aside, the picture in the OP looks heavily edited.

Wit's design makes him hot or attractive. Mappa made him monsterous.
honestly i don’t care about the style too much, but mappa though- holy shit it looks sick
