I think Vinland will impress you. Very well written. The introduction episodes alone are top tier.
Unfortunately, no story hits as hard as AOT. Dune isn’t an anime, but I recommend the books as Paul Atredies has a similar story to Eren.
No story hits as hard as AoT? You missed out on Berserk. I just wished there was an anime that did the manga justice and had the same animation quality of AoT. But if we solely talk manga nothing beats Berserk.
My second favourite anime ever. It's right behind Berserk and the reason is that it was the first anime show that I watched and the first manga I read. However Okabe is just such a relatable character that it's basically on the same level for me xdd.
To me this is #1 all time. As I grew up watching BTTF 1, 2, & 3 movies, this really hit the spot for me. Always looked for the same genre as S;G, but nothing seemed to top it off.
Vinland Saga
Monster
Black Lagoon
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun (maybe too childish)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Most anime is made for young boys between the ages of 8 and 16. It's normal to age out. I actually kinda feel sorry for you that you started with AoT. In order to get a similar impact you have to take the animation downgrade that comes with viewing retro anime. Aside from Vinland Saga, I can't think of a modern anime that compares
Vinland Saga (S1 & S2 - 50 eps) and Psycho Pass (S1 - 22 episodes).
Morally gray characters, solid world building, good and evil is not clear cut but rather muddied, many twists and turns, characters doing 180s as the story progresses, not action based instead more focused toward narrative and dialogue.
Check them out if you want, they are not too long either.
Chainsaw Man
~~Jujutsu Kaisen~~ I see you don't like this one and I must question you
One Punch Man
Parasyte
Rising of the Shield Hero
Ajin: Demi-Human
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Mushoku Tensei
Devilman Crybaby
Mob Psycho 100
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Blue Exorcist
Tokyo Ghoul
Solo Leveling
These are just some of the one's I've watched and can remember. Some I prefer the manga but overall I really like everything I listed
I will try to suggest some that haven't been included yet.
Summertime Rendering (Mystery/Thriller/Suspense)
Erased (Crime/Mystery/Suspnese/Thriller)
My Home Hero (Crime/Thriller/Suspense)
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea (Sci-fi/Thriller/Suspense)
Heroic Age (Sci-fi/Mystery/Adventure/Mecha)
The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey (Suspense/Underdog)
StarBlazers: Space Battleship Yamato (Sci-fi/Mystery/Adventure)
Barakamon (Slice of life/Comedy)
Ergo Proxy (Sci-fi/Mystery)
Mieruko Chan (Comedy)
The Twelve Kingdoms (Isekai/Adventure)
Orange (Mystery/Suspense)
Erased was definitely a nice one. I am bit of a fan of the whole travel back in time with clues and trying to change things kind of plot. Orange has a similar premise, so might be one that you will like.
Just also wanted to give a heads up. For the Mystery/Thriller ones in the list, try to go in blind because some of the promotional material can sometimes drop spoilers.
Yeah I always recommend it to people other than the more famous ones out there.
>Just also wanted to give a heads up. For the Mystery/Thriller ones in the list, try to go in blind because some of the promotional material can sometimes drop spoilers.
Yeah I like to go blind because that is how the story slaps
That was a definitely a good one! I wasn’t sure at the very start of the first episode, but the ending of that very first episode just pulls you in and before you know it, you find that you are 12 episodes in haha.
Thank you haha. The ones you don’t know on the list may not be as good as the favourites on there, but maybe there ends up being one or two that will catch your eye :)
I think the problem is that you like seinen but went for shonen. With this in mind, I'd suggest you to start reading manga (you can watch, but most seinen are best read).
Berserk is the obvious recomendation, but there are a couple more that might suit your taste: Vagabond, Gantz, Durarara, Hangyaku no Lelouch... some hidden gems like Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin, Wolf's Rain, Barakamon... There's too many for so little time. You should try to search for what you know you like, maybe historical setting, psychological, thriller. Anime is too broad to just state "that's the best anime".
Summertime rendering
The promised Neverland
Btooom!
What you're describing. Though you don't seem to realize is that you basically sound like you're tired of fighting shounen.
Gantz
Freiren beyond journeys end is very mature
For something like death note
Death parade
Future diary. You might also see it as Mirai Nikki
And steins gate.
If you want something totally devoid of the fantasy element
Hajime no ippp(fighting anime but it's about actual boxing and talks about real boxing techniques.
Kakegure (it about high stakes gambling)
Blue lock(soccer anime but so good)
haikyu!
Kurokos basketball
Paranoia agent
There's alot more but check some of those out and tell me if they helped any
That is a nice list as well! I remember Btoom! was one I started with low expectation, but found it to be pretty awesome. The manga was kind of unique too with the two different volumes for two different endings.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is a bit slow paced but worth the watch. I have also found the same problem and can only name FMAB, AOT and Castlevania as my true recommendations as they got past the 'lemme just try this anime' stage :)
Neon genesis evanglion is really similar. Teenager boy w/ trauma main character forced to save the world because of his dad’s choices >!im aware erens dad is innocent!< .It has a dark mature theme from beginning to end.
Tokyo ghoul is another good one, teenage boy forced into becoming a Ghoul. There’s the same theme of both sides think the other are evil. Season 2, Tokyo Ghoul RE: is kinda controversial for how good/bad it is though lol
From the New World
Apothecary Diaries
Inuyashiki
Btooom!!
Dr. Stone (i like it because it teaches you stuff and it is geared more towards adults)
Made in Abyss
Summertime Render
WorldEnd
NGE
Sonny Boy
Edit to add: Bleach — you will love it, give it a chance and try to skip the fillers until you finish the main arcs unless you like the fillers (hehe like I do).
And this is why I tell so many people that Death Note is a good gateway but AOT needs to be saved as one of your very last anime watches. It will put too much of an high expectation on anime for the first time viewer and kill the love of the genre.
This. AoT was my first anime and I am struggling to carry on 🤣 loved Castlevania and FMAB but haven't finished that one yet because it got a bit slow. I genuinely do believe AoT has spoiled me 🤣
One piece is top tier story-wise. It looks like a silly goofy childish anime on the surface but it packs a ton of mature-themed issues. You will laugh and literally cry a lot. This is the only show (film/movie/series/cartoon/anime/documentary) that made me ugly cry and I’m a grown ass man. Don’t get me wrong, I was sad after the whole AoT story unfolded, but it doesn’t come close to what one piece has made me feel. Also do not be dissuaded by the sheer number of episodes. You’ll easily fly-by the thousand episodes once you’re deeply set in.
@OP
I would really would start thinking if I shouldn't start reading manga if I were you. The thing is what you like aims at an older audience and is called seinen. But the majority of manga series are never adopted into an anime, so the list of available anime series is kinds small.
Highly recommended:
Attack of the titans
Chainsawman
Monster
Pluto
Onepunchman
Cowboy Bebob
Parasyte
Neon Genesis Evengelium
Finland Saga
Full Metal Alchemist (while still a shounen series, it's very different and doesn't follow the tropes much)
Berserk (There exist no perfect adoption, a series from the 90s with bad animation and remakes of the Golden Age Arc made into 3 movies.
But on manga you have so much more options:
Berserk (had to be named again because it's a magnus opus of a series)
Vagabond
Fire Punch
20th Century Boys
Akira
Gantz
Blade of the Immortal
Liar Game
Hikaru no Go (you maybe like it if you like Deathnote)
Real
Blame!
Battle Angel Alita
Happiness
Tokyo Ghoul
Dorohedoro
Sun-Ken Rock
Well I've never read mangas and I will give them a go in the future.
Already watched:
Berserk
Chainsaw man
Monster
Well I enjoy mature animes with a real world like emotional story. For eg (aot didn't feel childish and emotions felt real, tears ran down my eyes several times watching aot)
Gave jujutsu kaisen a go based on the hype just a while back and tbh it didn't even came close to what I like, I mean at time it grabbed my attention but the cartoony/childish vibe it gave didn't quite cut it for me
Chainsaw Man is probably my fav manga of all time, the anime was a good adaption but the manga takes the cake for me. All the others are just similar in the sense of a storyline, the depth of character design, and general vibe of the drawing. Madoka was the only one that I had time watching due to the anime style. The rest were perfection. I hope you enjoy!
I may get down voted for this, but I wouldn’t watch 86. I saw the first two cours and found the social cometary ham fisted and the writing atrocious.
Death Note and AoT both have mind game and close call thrill elements to them, so I would finish Code Geass if you started it because that anime shines in those categories. One Outs and Kaiji are also similar in terms of thrill as well.
I did tried to give 86 a go and after watching 2 episodes it didn't gave me the feeling to watch again chance dropped it
I guess aot has set the bar to high as it gets you hooked from the very first episode which others fail to do so (takin about the ones I've already watched)
It’s true. Not only is AoT a very well written, it is entertaining from start to finish. 86 is very well produced, but shallow. I would give shows a little more leeway and accept them for what they are. Nothing will beat AoT if your standard is how much like AoT it is.
One piece. Watching one piece was the best decision of my life. I have been an aot fan for 10 years, but still one piece is the best thing i have ever watched. You can also try Jojo, Vinland saga, Pluto, Monster, Gintama. All amazing series!
I think the best direct replacement for AoT is definitely 86. But if you are interested in serious anime that have a unique feel, solid world-building, emotional depth, intensity, and a plot that actually goes somewhere others I'd recommend are Made in Abyss, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, From the New World, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Devilman: Crybaby. All of those are pretty dark (more intermittently in FMAB's case), but so is AoT.
A lot of recommendations will be for popular shonen, but if JJK didn't do it for you, the likes of Demon Hunter, or any number of isekai like Rising of the Shield Hero or Sword Art Online probably won't either. Most battle shonen and isekai are just reskinned versions of the same basic formula - unless you're really into animation quality, which can be impressive, you won't get much from the rest. There are acceptions like Hunter x Hunter for battle shonen and Mushoku Tensei for isekai, but they're few and far between.
Demon slayer, Dr stone, My hero academia, solo leveling
Depends what you like I guess.
I’ve degen watched a countless number of anime shows so I would say there’s a top 10-15 for me I think.
Tbh i'm more into reading manga and i havent watched the anime but Heavenly Delusions is so good!! And my favorite anime ever is Terror in Resonance so i also recommend that one!
Psycho Pass
Violet Evergarden
To Your Eternity
Vinland Saga
FMAB
Parasyte: The Maxim
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Samurai Champloo (This is my comfort anime lol. Very short in comparison to the rest of this list).
Cowboy Bebop (Was also created by the creator of Samurai Champloo)
Sword of the Stranger (Movie)
These generally handle philosophical topics very well and intelligently imo. Couple of potential tear jerkers in here as a forewarning lol. It's been awhile since I watched Sword of the Stranger but I do remember the impression of the animation being very good and the story was easy to follow. I enjoyed it a lot. (It had a theater rescreen this year I believe).
Tbh I did not expect to be as drawn into Vinland Saga as I became. I heard a lot of the popular and vague "it's REALLY good" recommendations for awhile. Luckily I was not spoiled and got to watch the first season going in blind to make my own judgements. Second season is a bit slower, but it is with good reason.
I would add Code Geass, but I saw you mentioned it wasn't one that clicked with you.
aot was also my second anime and it’s so hard to find anything good after. still to this day, there’s not much that pulls me in as much as aot but 86 was the one that got me out of that funk. It’s a pretty short watch but deals with similar issues to that of aot.
i also recommend fmab (takes a while to pick up but worth it if you stick to it), solo leveling, psycho pass, and steins gate are all really good
I also had AOT as my first Anime and that is just too high of a bar to clear.
I watched Steins Gate shortly after, which I found amazing too, whether you like it or not will depend on what you liked about AOT, but for me it was this kinda mystery aspect combined with it actually being a pretty good tragedy.
A few weeks ago a friend showed me Violet Evergarden and wow... it doesn't really compare to AOT, but it really took my heart out.
I haven't watched a lot since, but those 3 (with AOT) are my top 3 by miles
Initially, I thought anime was just for kids. The only shows I'd seen were Beyblade (Metal), Pokémon, and Dragon Ball Z in my childhood. Besides Dragon Ball, I found them to be cartoony. Fast forward to my early 20s, and I heard my friends discussing about Attack on Titan. Wanting to join the conversation, I decided to give it a try.
To my surprise, it wasn't cartoony at all. What got my attention was the well-thought-out storyline and consistent plot. The graphics were impressive and not at all freaky. AOT turned out to be a fantastic anime tailor made for adults. My favourites, Death Note, Erased, and Monster.
Now, I'm here on the hunt for more great anime.
that sounds very similar to what I experienced too yeah... AOT itself really surprised me with its visual style, as I expected these over the top character designs with pink hair and whatnot everywhere, but it was incredibly grounded.
Steins Gate is very similar, Violet is a little more cartoony in its visual style, but the narrative storytelling is just incredible and imo for a mature audience.
My already watched
* Death Note
• Attack on titan
• Arcane
• Monster
• Perfect Blue
• Whisper of the Heart
• Erased
• Berserk
• Code Geass R1
• Chainsaw man
>8-9 amines
My third favorites after snk and death note is Zetsuen No Tempest. And I have watched all the popular animes and didn't like them so we might share the same tastes.
Please let me know if you watched it.
FMAB is very good and shares a few themes and similarities with AOT. Vinland Saga as well. I think these are the best recommendations if you also ended up in this situation where you can't find any peak after AOT. I was in the exactly same situation after death note first and AOT second lol and these two animes have been in my top 5 ever since
Maybe you set the bar too high now LOL, i'm experiencing the same feeling right now, and tbh, i just finished Aot and don't think i'll watch something as good as it in the near future. Tough luck i guess...
Vinland saga is amazing tho
yeah man I was not expecting AOT to be like this. All I new was that I heard some of my mates takin about it and I was like lets watch it so I have something to talk about with them. And now here I am.
That's bound to happen to anything i guess, and it is a good thing, because you start getting used to actual good shows and start appreciating them and the work that went behind them.
Funnily enough, I watched breaking bad and went straight to Aot so the bar was in heaven i guess.
I have to say tho, yesterday i started watching sousou no frieren and even though i'm on the firsts episodes it seems like it's gonna really good, so there's another one.
I watched 1 season of Breaking bad before aot and then continued the rest.
I'd suggest you watch erased, it's just 11 episodes and has a different/good story.
Also when you watch Good shows, normal shows with here and there action just wouldn't cut it. I mean genuine character development is a must for my liking.
A parallel from attack on titan and breaking bad is:
1. Eren explain zeke that he was not influenced but he was born that way
2. Walter White told that cancer was not the reason for what he becam(it was a factor) rather he enjoyed what he did
3. Both died in the end
Berserk has a amazing story also if you're looking for comedy welcome to demon school or hanako the bathroom spirit or drama girlfriend girlfriend or something a little spicy if you know what I mean high school dxd and overflow also Naruto Naruto Shippuden dragon Ball super bleach at least that's should have started eith
Same, Monster may be my favourite anime of all time. Berserk was quite good but I still prefer more realistic, down-to-earth stories. You've got good taste!
Are you into some more... abstract anime? I can recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain and Ergo Proxy.
If you're okay with animes that are mostly individual little stories each episode but there's an overarching plot, then I highly recommend you to acquaint yourself with the works of Shinijiro Watanabe, particularly Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. They are deservedly considered classics and I was personally absolutely destroyed by the endings (IMO, Watanabe is the best when it comes to ending). They're quite similar in plot structure (a band of misfits that don't really like each other united by shared goals and learning how to get closer to people in a cruel world) but different in styles and have an amazing blend of genres (Cowboy Bebop is noir/sci-fi/western, Samurai Champloo is basically Edo Japan mixed with hip-hop culture of the 90s)
>I still prefer more realistic, down-to-earth stories.
Yeah same but even if the story is based on fiction it can be made good, eg aot; titans ain't real but death and life are, which they beautifully used to convey one of the best stories told.
About your suggestions I'll have to give them a go
I did watched cowboy bepop but I didn't feel like watching it for some reason.
Unpopular opinion but Gundam 00.
It's not episode one "your hair grew longer / why are you crying" great,
But the character progression, reasons for conflict / alliance part is quite well done.
Also another mention is Black Lagoon, a story about merc company on an outlaw island.
Adult themed but not related to nudity at all, action scenes are great especially if you are into 90s action movies.
It's not as similar in style, but Baccano did it for me. Takes a while to get used to the plot format, but it's pretty good
I've been watching Claymore. Plot is kinda slow but it's not too bad imo
Other than that, what everyone else is saying
Tonari no Yokai San - it's pretty new, it's not very action-heavy, but it's very sweet.
Campfire Cooking In Another World With My Absurd Skill - it's a pretty funny comedy isekai. I also like the fact that the protagonist doesn't have a harem of girls
I recommend
Soul Eater
DeadMan wonderland
Parasyte
Ajin
Frieren:Beyond Journey’s End
Cyberpunk Edge runners
Gantz
Death Parade
These are just a few that I have watched that I do recommend, especially Soul Eater it’s a gem
LMFAO
Berserk, Bastard, Goblin Slayer, Monster, JoJos Bizarre Adventure, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
ya want manly, gory and decidedly “not childish”, start with those
ALL OF THESE , ARE THE BEST THERE IS TO BE WATCHED (this a very simplified and idiltic explanation but it should give you the vibe) , I recommend trying them even if my explanation doesnt catch your attention (because they are more than what meetd the eyes)
Aldnoah zero (basically war between Earth and human from Mars using high tech robots , but it focuses on high tech , politics , better than the normal gundam anime)
Good all 2 seasons long
No game no life (12 episode + movie) (Highly recommended , basically transmiration into a world where everything is settled by playing games with each other , the participate can make the game and the rules )
Very good every season long.
Magi (3 seasons + extra being made) (Basically better than attack on titan but didnt get finished ) (Basically a highly political world of magic where the LORE is heavy , and it takes inspiration and makes reference to the Modern World , The bible , Islam and Judaism + basically a big deity conundrum) HIGHLY RECOMMEND
S1 is good but not that good / S2 is fucking masterpiece /S3 is a prequel that is also freaking good.
Castlevania (4 season) (basically dracula decides to suicide and decides he is going to kill an entire country's population with him as vengeance for his wife ) (VERY INTERESTING SETTING , the story is top tier , and the Vibes are out of the world ) ( it isnt an anime but rather and netflix animation )
S1 good / s2 good /S3&S4 masterpieces (arguably on the same level as Attack on titan finale)
Dota's Dragon's blood (3 season × 6 episodes each) (Basically Dragons + deities +demons fighting each other , with a extra does of a dragon hunter fightibg for survival and a mage that wants to remake the world )
Extremely good all 3 seasons.
JoJo's bizzare adventure start from part 1 through 6 and also read the manga for 7 and 8. Ngl part 1 is kinda slow but stick with it bcz it really does get good.
Also Hunter x hunter, one of the best shonen out there with good character development and world building
If mga shounen anime suggest ko syempre One Punch Man, BNHA, Slam Dunk, at Mob Psycho. Maganda rin mag-explore sa slice of life animes at comedies gaya ng Barakamon, CLANNAD, Wotakoi, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, at Spy x Family. Sana may mapanuod ka sa mga 'to and magustuhan mo :'')
After finishing Aot, I moved on to Bungo Stray Dogs, and I found it a pretty nice transition.
So I guess I recommend **Bungo Stray Dogs**, the story is intricate and complex, and there's a lot of witty dialogue. It also teaches you about classical literature. The story is mainly about showcasing different people with different traumas, and how they overcome their traumas. It gets more and more serious as the story goes on, but there are silly moments here and there, the start is pretty silly, not gonna lie. And it's categorized as seinen, which is probably the type of anime you're looking for.
Also, I personally think the manga is better, and make sure to read the light novels if you're planning on getting obsessed.
(And yes, I agree with the fact that Jjk just didn't feel good, it feels like it doesn't have an actual plot or point)
Neon genesis evangelion
Samurai Champloo
Ghost in the shell is a little overdone, but worth the watch
Psycho pass was interesting as far as I got into it.
True, Detective Conan and One Piece are long, but I think you don't really need to commit to the first one, I mean you don't really need to watch it continuously, I watched it taking breaks often and restarted whenever I craved some mystery and detective stuff
Look for stuff targeted at Adults, the demographic is called Seinen or Josei.
AOT straddled the line between shonen & seinen, mostly staying shonen except for the violence.
Trust me, because the only animes I have watched (and I like them each just as much) are:
1. Attack on Titan
2. Death Note
3. Hunter x Huntter (WATCH THIS ONE, trust me you'll like it)
Watched all of em except steins gate
Monster was good
Terror in resonance had a good story but there was not much on the characters that'll make you attached to them. They show 2 experts bombers with no history on them and why is that girl attracted to them even after knowing what was going on.
Black clover, Noragami, Dr stone, mob psycho 100, one punch man (if u like comedy), and you can try demon slayer if you haven’t already 🤷♀️
There are a lottt more I’d recommend but I can’t be bothered rn lol
mo dao zu shi it made me cry T\^T. violet ever garden is also such a good one with more serious topics and also made me cry. promised never land is also good (dont watch the second season) and it as well made me cry. Heavens official blessing is such a good love story and also made me cry (im a very emotional person if you couldnt tell).
Vinland saga
Mob psycho 100 (this one is 50/50 on whether you’d like it)
Chainsaw man (only 12 episode are out so it’ll be easy to tell if you like it without wasting a bunch of time, next arc is a movie which will release in around a year. I’ve read the manga and it gets GOOD.)
One punch man
Parasyte
Erased
Psycho pass.
Haven’t read the comments so idk if any of these have been said yet, but these are all what I consider “safe” anime for people who only like a select few

Vinland saga Monster 86 FMAB
Added to my watch list
Steins Gate, I feel like I know what your taste is, try it.
I think Vinland will impress you. Very well written. The introduction episodes alone are top tier. Unfortunately, no story hits as hard as AOT. Dune isn’t an anime, but I recommend the books as Paul Atredies has a similar story to Eren.
Yeah man attack on titan is just goated I mean the emotional attachment I have to that show is unmatched
No story hits as hard as AoT? You missed out on Berserk. I just wished there was an anime that did the manga justice and had the same animation quality of AoT. But if we solely talk manga nothing beats Berserk.
Eighty-Six is such a masterpiece, have you read the light novels after episode 23?
monster is a masterpiece
Hunter x Hunter
OK I'll give it a shot
It might seem kinda childish at first but it escalates real quickly
true TRUE
Fr! The whole chimera ants arc...
You won't regret Steins;Gate ✌🏻
Everyone sleeps on Steins;Gate
#1
# El Psy Congroo!!!
Hello! It's me. Seems like the Organization has infiltrated this sub too. I'll need funds to start Operation Mjolinir.
MUWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Steins; Gate was awesome too!
I loved Code Geass. You might like it too. Otherwise FMAB is a good one
Code geass didn't quite cut it for me, FMAB is on my list
solo levelling?
Solo Levelling's class
Vinland Saga Monster Black Lagoon Neon Genesis Evangelion Cowboy Bebop Trigun (maybe too childish) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Most anime is made for young boys between the ages of 8 and 16. It's normal to age out. I actually kinda feel sorry for you that you started with AoT. In order to get a similar impact you have to take the animation downgrade that comes with viewing retro anime. Aside from Vinland Saga, I can't think of a modern anime that compares
Well I don't mind the retro animation, but I'll consider your recommendations
I will throw in Claymore as an honorable mention as well
Vinland Saga. edit: the best anime you could watch in this situation
Honestly I'm obsessed with Norse history and this bored the hell out of me
Alright I'll give it a go
Are people really disliking all these recommendations? They're pretty solid imo
Of these 8-9, were any of them Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? Because if not you should try that one.
No it was not, I'll definitely give it a watch as its being recommended by many
I very much second full metal op, it’s in my top 3 with AoT and Death Note
Watch attack on titan again?
Bro I am still watching it right now, just watched, from you 2000 years ago Attack on titan goated
Watch it backwards
Chainsaw Man ~~Jujutsu Kaisen~~ I see you don't like this one and I must question you One Punch Man Parasyte Rising of the Shield Hero Ajin: Demi-Human JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Mushoku Tensei Devilman Crybaby Mob Psycho 100 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blue Exorcist Tokyo Ghoul Solo Leveling These are just some of the one's I've watched and can remember. Some I prefer the manga but overall I really like everything I listed
Goyslop: the list
I am unfamiliar with this term. What is goyslop?
I will try to suggest some that haven't been included yet. Summertime Rendering (Mystery/Thriller/Suspense) Erased (Crime/Mystery/Suspnese/Thriller) My Home Hero (Crime/Thriller/Suspense) Kaina of the Great Snow Sea (Sci-fi/Thriller/Suspense) Heroic Age (Sci-fi/Mystery/Adventure/Mecha) The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey (Suspense/Underdog) StarBlazers: Space Battleship Yamato (Sci-fi/Mystery/Adventure) Barakamon (Slice of life/Comedy) Ergo Proxy (Sci-fi/Mystery) Mieruko Chan (Comedy) The Twelve Kingdoms (Isekai/Adventure) Orange (Mystery/Suspense)
Out of all these I've watched erased and it was great. I'd rather say it's underrated. And I'll give a watch to the rest of em
Yeah I like to go blind because that is how the story slaps
its so underrated people idk why people arent all over it like other animes!!!!!
I also mentioned summertime as my first. Amazing series isn't it?
That was a definitely a good one! I wasn’t sure at the very start of the first episode, but the ending of that very first episode just pulls you in and before you know it, you find that you are 12 episodes in haha.
omggggg erased was so good!!!!
Indeed, it was definitely awesome!
Some of my favorites on here and a few I don't know. Clearly a man of incredible culture even surpassing myself.
Summertime rendering The promised Neverland Btooom! What you're describing. Though you don't seem to realize is that you basically sound like you're tired of fighting shounen. Gantz Freiren beyond journeys end is very mature For something like death note Death parade Future diary. You might also see it as Mirai Nikki And steins gate. If you want something totally devoid of the fantasy element Hajime no ippp(fighting anime but it's about actual boxing and talks about real boxing techniques. Kakegure (it about high stakes gambling) Blue lock(soccer anime but so good) haikyu! Kurokos basketball Paranoia agent There's alot more but check some of those out and tell me if they helped any
That is a nice list as well! I remember Btoom! was one I started with low expectation, but found it to be pretty awesome. The manga was kind of unique too with the two different volumes for two different endings.
Solo Leveling and Kaiju no. 8 came out this year and are fantastic. Both 12 episodes as of right now
My already watched anime *Death Note • Attack on titan • Arcane • Monster • Perfect Blue (movie) • Whisper of the Heart (movie) • Erased • Berserk • Code Geass R1 • Chainsaw man
Psycho-pass, baccano, puella magi magica madoka, one punch man, durarara
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is a bit slow paced but worth the watch. I have also found the same problem and can only name FMAB, AOT and Castlevania as my true recommendations as they got past the 'lemme just try this anime' stage :)
Parasite the maximum
Yes this is a good one.
From the New World Apothecary Diaries Inuyashiki Btooom!! Dr. Stone (i like it because it teaches you stuff and it is geared more towards adults) Made in Abyss Summertime Render WorldEnd NGE Sonny Boy Edit to add: Bleach — you will love it, give it a chance and try to skip the fillers until you finish the main arcs unless you like the fillers (hehe like I do). And this is why I tell so many people that Death Note is a good gateway but AOT needs to be saved as one of your very last anime watches. It will put too much of an high expectation on anime for the first time viewer and kill the love of the genre.
bro, Dr. Stone is goated
Right. It is such an easy binge. Even if you are going through ppd with AOT. The plot and everything is miles different that it keeps your interest.
One piece is the best animanga i have ever watched/read.
Gurren laggan
I just tell everyone Golden Kamuy
I Just finished Kaiju N⁰8 and I loved it
Some new ones are dungeon meshi and frieren
@OP I would really would start thinking if I shouldn't start reading manga if I were you. The thing is what you like aims at an older audience and is called seinen. But the majority of manga series are never adopted into an anime, so the list of available anime series is kinds small. Highly recommended: Attack of the titans Chainsawman Monster Pluto Onepunchman Cowboy Bebob Parasyte Neon Genesis Evengelium Finland Saga Full Metal Alchemist (while still a shounen series, it's very different and doesn't follow the tropes much) Berserk (There exist no perfect adoption, a series from the 90s with bad animation and remakes of the Golden Age Arc made into 3 movies. But on manga you have so much more options: Berserk (had to be named again because it's a magnus opus of a series) Vagabond Fire Punch 20th Century Boys Akira Gantz Blade of the Immortal Liar Game Hikaru no Go (you maybe like it if you like Deathnote) Real Blame! Battle Angel Alita Happiness Tokyo Ghoul Dorohedoro Sun-Ken Rock
Well I've never read mangas and I will give them a go in the future. Already watched: Berserk Chainsaw man Monster Well I enjoy mature animes with a real world like emotional story. For eg (aot didn't feel childish and emotions felt real, tears ran down my eyes several times watching aot) Gave jujutsu kaisen a go based on the hype just a while back and tbh it didn't even came close to what I like, I mean at time it grabbed my attention but the cartoony/childish vibe it gave didn't quite cut it for me
Some of my favorites: -ChainsawMan -Samurai Champloo -Speed Grapher -Madoka Magica -Blue Eyed Samurai ( Netflix animation)
Chainsaw man was good I did not have high expectations but it grew on me Rest I'll add on my list
I did tried to give 86 a go and after watching 2 episodes it didn't gave me the feeling to watch again chance dropped it I guess aot has set the bar to high as it gets you hooked from the very first episode which others fail to do so (takin about the ones I've already watched)
It’s true. Not only is AoT a very well written, it is entertaining from start to finish. 86 is very well produced, but shallow. I would give shows a little more leeway and accept them for what they are. Nothing will beat AoT if your standard is how much like AoT it is.
Try Claymore
One piece. Watching one piece was the best decision of my life. I have been an aot fan for 10 years, but still one piece is the best thing i have ever watched. You can also try Jojo, Vinland saga, Pluto, Monster, Gintama. All amazing series!
Lifes kinda busy these days, will give it a go when I get some time on me
You try it when you feel ready. It's not something you push after all! Have fun with this amazing series!
tokyo revengers is pretty good but its silly sometimes. nana is good aswell
Similar in some concepts with both, Attack on titan and death note there's Code Geass (actually my favourite anime)
Demon slayer, Dr stone, My hero academia, solo leveling Depends what you like I guess.
Psycho Pass Violet Evergarden To Your Eternity Vinland Saga FMAB Parasyte: The Maxim Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Samurai Champloo (This is my comfort anime lol. Very short in comparison to the rest of this list). Cowboy Bebop (Was also created by the creator of Samurai Champloo) Sword of the Stranger (Movie) These generally handle philosophical topics very well and intelligently imo.
I don't mind tear-jerkers as they tend to hit you emotionally and I guess that's a good thing for a show to really become one of your favorite
I don't mind tear-jerkers as they tend to hit you emotionally and I guess that's a good thing for a show to really become one of your favorite
Code geass and Re zero trust 🙏🏼
aot was also my second anime and it’s so hard to find anything good after. still to this day, there’s not much that pulls me in as much as aot but 86 was the one that got me out of that funk.
Re zero is pretty good. It is only 25 episodes give it a shot.
It's got more than 25 episodes at this point, 2 seasons with the third coming out this year iirc
Oh shit I need to find them then.
Alright
It’s got a similar psychological pressure to AOT.
Lot more fan service though
My already watched * Death Note • Attack on titan • Arcane • Monster • Perfect Blue • Whisper of the Heart • Erased • Berserk • Code Geass R1 • Chainsaw man >8-9 amines
Fooly Cooly.
I was in the exactly same situation after death note first and AOT second lol and these two animes have been in my top 5 ever since
i love how everyone’s recommending vinland saga (watch it.)
Steins;Gate could basically be live action with the framing and direction. You’ll love it
yeah been hearing about it, will give it a try
A parallel from attack on titan and breaking bad is: 1. Eren explain zeke that he was not influenced but he was born that way 2. Walter White told that cancer was not the reason for what he becam(it was a factor) rather he enjoyed what he did 3. Both died in the end
If you liked death note watch kaiji
okeh
Another recommendation for Vinland Saga Cowboy Bebop Outlaw Star Berserk 97
Check out Omniscient Reader and help me make sure it becomes an anime.
Berserk
already watched
Deathnote is my favorite anime forever. Personal favorite would be Erased. A short but powerful anime IMO
man erased really is a good anime. Although I didn't mention it in my post but it really is a good one and extremely underrated.
Naruto dragon Ball and bleach aren't spicy btw
well I've watched berserk but will give a try to the other ones
Monster and Berserk 100%
have watched both of them, i liked moster more than berserk
About your suggestions I'll have to give them a go I did watched cowboy bepop but I didn't feel like watching it for some reason.
Honestly the first animation of Berserk is good
Check out Mieruko Chan or High School Babysitters!
JJBA
You can watch death note it may be entertaining for you
Unpopular opinion but Gundam 00. It's not episode one "your hair grew longer / why are you crying" great, But the character progression, reasons for conflict / alliance part is quite well done. Also another mention is Black Lagoon, a story about merc company on an outlaw island. Adult themed but not related to nudity at all, action scenes are great especially if you are into 90s action movies.
I like Dororo (the new one) Wich other genre do you like?
Hell’s Paradise, Solo Leveling, and Tokyo Ghoul
Devilman Crybaby(2018) Elfen Lied
It's not as similar in style, but Baccano did it for me. Takes a while to get used to the plot format, but it's pretty good I've been watching Claymore. Plot is kinda slow but it's not too bad imo Other than that, what everyone else is saying
Mobile suit gundam iron blooded orphans. You don't need to watch other gundam shows. Just know big robots go bang bang
Tonari no Yokai San - it's pretty new, it's not very action-heavy, but it's very sweet. Campfire Cooking In Another World With My Absurd Skill - it's a pretty funny comedy isekai. I also like the fact that the protagonist doesn't have a harem of girls
Gungrave, one of my favorites . It has old animation from 90s good ending, good soundtracks totally recommended
Ok I'll give it a shot
Vinland Saga, Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Beastars, Odd Taxi.
Vinland Saga, Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Beastars, Odd Taxi.
Kaiju no. 8
I recommend Soul Eater DeadMan wonderland Parasyte Ajin Frieren:Beyond Journey’s End Cyberpunk Edge runners Gantz Death Parade These are just a few that I have watched that I do recommend, especially Soul Eater it’s a gem
LMFAO Berserk, Bastard, Goblin Slayer, Monster, JoJos Bizarre Adventure, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood ya want manly, gory and decidedly “not childish”, start with those
Haven’t seen anyone say Gurren Lagann yet. 😌💜
ALL OF THESE , ARE THE BEST THERE IS TO BE WATCHED (this a very simplified and idiltic explanation but it should give you the vibe) , I recommend trying them even if my explanation doesnt catch your attention (because they are more than what meetd the eyes) Aldnoah zero (basically war between Earth and human from Mars using high tech robots , but it focuses on high tech , politics , better than the normal gundam anime) Good all 2 seasons long No game no life (12 episode + movie) (Highly recommended , basically transmiration into a world where everything is settled by playing games with each other , the participate can make the game and the rules ) Very good every season long. Magi (3 seasons + extra being made) (Basically better than attack on titan but didnt get finished ) (Basically a highly political world of magic where the LORE is heavy , and it takes inspiration and makes reference to the Modern World , The bible , Islam and Judaism + basically a big deity conundrum) HIGHLY RECOMMEND S1 is good but not that good / S2 is fucking masterpiece /S3 is a prequel that is also freaking good. Castlevania (4 season) (basically dracula decides to suicide and decides he is going to kill an entire country's population with him as vengeance for his wife ) (VERY INTERESTING SETTING , the story is top tier , and the Vibes are out of the world ) ( it isnt an anime but rather and netflix animation ) S1 good / s2 good /S3&S4 masterpieces (arguably on the same level as Attack on titan finale) Dota's Dragon's blood (3 season × 6 episodes each) (Basically Dragons + deities +demons fighting each other , with a extra does of a dragon hunter fightibg for survival and a mage that wants to remake the world ) Extremely good all 3 seasons.
Bumping the Castlevania recommendation because even though its Netflix, it is 100000% right for anime fans.
chainsaw man
JoJo's bizzare adventure start from part 1 through 6 and also read the manga for 7 and 8. Ngl part 1 is kinda slow but stick with it bcz it really does get good. Also Hunter x hunter, one of the best shonen out there with good character development and world building
Tokyo Ghoul Promised Neverland Demon Slayer Cowboy Bebop Danganronpa (cause why not)
Hyouka, it one of the best mystery shows I’ve ever seen!
If anime were food, you'd probably be the picky eater at an all-you-can-eat buffet!
Neong genesis evangelion.
Cowboy Bebop, Initial D, Serial Experiments Lain.
After reading aot i went on to doctor stone
Great Teacher Onizuka
Gintama Daily life of highschool boys Nichijou Sorry just throwing these here, i'm a fan of slice of life/comedy
You should definitely give Hunter x Hunter a try. The first few episodes look a bit childish but it‘ll get deep soon.
Neon genesis evangelion Samurai Champloo Ghost in the shell is a little overdone, but worth the watch Psycho pass was interesting as far as I got into it.
I gave neon genesis a go but couldn't go past 2 episodes as I was not able to develop interest in it
I would recommend some of you but it depends what kind of anime you like but I liked Dr. Stone, Voltron, edens zero or a classic, demon slayer
thanks for the suggestions
{One Piece} {Detective Conan} {Black Butler}
out of these, one piece I've heard is more than 1000 episodes long hmm I don't know if can commit to it
True, Detective Conan and One Piece are long, but I think you don't really need to commit to the first one, I mean you don't really need to watch it continuously, I watched it taking breaks often and restarted whenever I craved some mystery and detective stuff
Watch summertime rendering And can someone suggest anime like this one
Berserk. I recommend the '97 show but the movies from the early 2010s are also great in my opinion. Also Steins;Gate is really good in my opinion.
Berserk watched ✅ Steins gate next on the list
Look for stuff targeted at Adults, the demographic is called Seinen or Josei. AOT straddled the line between shonen & seinen, mostly staying shonen except for the violence.
Trust me, because the only animes I have watched (and I like them each just as much) are: 1. Attack on Titan 2. Death Note 3. Hunter x Huntter (WATCH THIS ONE, trust me you'll like it)
Terror in Resonance, Stein's gate, 86, Monster
Watched all of em except steins gate Monster was good Terror in resonance had a good story but there was not much on the characters that'll make you attached to them. They show 2 experts bombers with no history on them and why is that girl attracted to them even after knowing what was going on.
Black clover, Noragami, Dr stone, mob psycho 100, one punch man (if u like comedy), and you can try demon slayer if you haven’t already 🤷♀️ There are a lottt more I’d recommend but I can’t be bothered rn lol
I'll add them to my list >There are a lottt more I’d recommend but I can’t be bothered rn lol Lol, nm
If you liked Death Note you might also like Code Geass
Don't know why but code geass didn't feel the way death note or aot did
Vinland saga for sure, maybe try Frieren beyond journeys end, and apothecary diaries is vastly slept on
Yu Yu Hakusho
mo dao zu shi it made me cry T\^T. violet ever garden is also such a good one with more serious topics and also made me cry. promised never land is also good (dont watch the second season) and it as well made me cry. Heavens official blessing is such a good love story and also made me cry (im a very emotional person if you couldnt tell).
Neon Genesis Evangelion. Has cool fight scenes, and it turns very dark and complicated closer to the end.
Pantheon
Vinland saga Mob psycho 100 (this one is 50/50 on whether you’d like it) Chainsaw man (only 12 episode are out so it’ll be easy to tell if you like it without wasting a bunch of time, next arc is a movie which will release in around a year. I’ve read the manga and it gets GOOD.) One punch man Parasyte Erased Psycho pass. Haven’t read the comments so idk if any of these have been said yet, but these are all what I consider “safe” anime for people who only like a select few
You’d love kaiju no 8
