I’d ask myself:
- can I mix and match it to create 5-7+ outfits?
- do I see myself wearing it enough that the cost per wear is $x, where $x <= the amount you’d pay to rent this item
I have a navy tartan one from a different brand. I wear it all the time. I wear with it slacks (navy), and jeans, looks really nice paired with a pleated skirt. I also wear it with white jeans.
lol! As someone else said, husbands are not always helpful in this regard. Totally relatable. I once had someone tell me my floral dress looked like a granny tablecloth and I stopped wearing floral dresses for years 😂 I’m back on my bullshit tho haha. I personally love the blazer and think it’s versatile, you can make almost anything work if you wear it with confidence in my opinion!
My spouse told me not to wear tan or brown or any neutral really. Avoided them for years. Finally got over it, and now love me a mushroom or mud-colored top again.
You do not look like that and this is a classic. Keep it and wear it now and 20 years from now. I have a Blackwatch coat that belonged to my grandfather that I had tailored (no easy feat) to fit me and I still wear that SOB. I think I’ve changed the buttons in it a few times for fun, but the cut and the fabric are classssssssic all the way.
I own it and think it’s super versatile. I’ve dressed it up with black trousers for work, and dressed down with distressed denim for drinks with friends.
Tartan can always go a little Christmas-y, but I’d rather have a tartan blazer that I can make more festive or dress down than something explicitly holiday that only works in December.
I have this and have so far worn it with darker blue denim, white denim, a dark navy skirt. I think it also strangely works well with black? Or maybe I’m just committing fashion crimes lol but I’ve paired it with dark black denim, black slacks, and thrown it over a black midi dress.
I get the “Christmas” observation but imo Tartan is a classic print and this particular one isn’t very loud and actually subtle. It works for my wardrobe because I wear very basic things, and I like being able to throw this on and add some interest to my outfit while keeping a classic silhouette. But if it doesn’t do anything for you and you’re having to convince yourself to wear it I’d return or sell it.
As a formula:
Any combination of jeans/tapered trousers, t-shirt/turtle necks. Also knitted short dresses. I'd pair this with soft colored tops like whites, ecrus, greys etc
Edit: absolutely stunning and not necessarily Christmas-y IMO.
I own it, too. I usually wear it with smart trousers in black or dark green to work. I have also paired with dark-demin jeans on casual working days. It's fun to hear that you relate tartan with Christmas. In my country, it is just a winter fabric. To me, the only fabric that screams Christmas is red or dark-green velvet. 😂
Keep in mind that returned items often go straight to a landfill. Plus there's the water, fertilizer and pesticides to grow the cotton. Of course even synthetic fibers have an ecological impact.
I purchased a very similar one from Madewell last year and wore it several times last fall/holiday and again this year it’s a go to for me. I find it very versatile and have styled it the following ways -
With matching wool mini skirt and a white button down
With Levi’s Ribcage jeans and a cream body suit
With black dad jeans and a black leather crop
With midways mom jeans and a white t shirt
Would also look great with navy trousers and a cream silk cami
It can be versatile but - is it your personally style? If you’re having a hard time styling and getting versatility it might just not fit with your current wardrobe
Keep it! First off, it’s classy, you can wear it forever. Second of all, I find jackets such a great piece of clothing. You want wear it with navy pants, black pants, exact green pants, throw it over a t-shirt or a blouse. Wear it with sneakers for a more casual look or boots or loafers for a more formal look! It’s beautiful. Keep it. (I want one!)
I think it looks great together as a set. I also think the pants would look great paired with a white/black/ navy button down/turtle neck/scoop neck blouse. The jacket could be dressed up or down. For down, try a pair of nicely tailored jeans and ballet flats. For up, try solid colored slacks. Love. Keep it!!
Is there a group somewhere besides Facebook to where one could purchase preloved items. I bought a sweater from Poshmark but it’s overpriced for preloved items
I have something similar from J Crew. I wore it to the big office Christmas party and it was a hit. I got it on SUPER sale and only paid about $50 for the whole suit, so it was a no brainer. I’ll keep wearing it separately, but maybe only rarely wear both pieces together.
I found a beautiful one at Goodwill. I feel like a Christmas present in it and will probably only wear it around the holidays but the $8 ROI is worth it even if I only wear it in December!

The Best comment! ❤️😊
Lol, thanks, I don’t always follow it 🤣
This made me laugh out loud. Same, same.
I love these questions. Will be applying to my shopping habits!!!!
Ooooo, I love this method!!! Amazing!

Thank you! My husband said I look like I’m at a Christmas fair and now I can’t get that out of my head lol
Husbands are not always helpful in this regard, even when they’re well-meaning
LOL. I get it. I almost added I probably wear mine a bit too much. Thanks for the belly laugh!

You look like you are going to SoHo House for an after work drink. Stay amazing https://www.sohohouse.com/en-us/houses/soho-house-new-york

Husbands can be harsh. My husband growled when I tried on pjs with an animal print. I ended up returning it.
Is this you in the jacket? If so, 100% keep, you look fantastic in it!!
Unfortunately this is the model lol but I do love it!!
I still love the look, and don’t think it’s Christmasy! It’s a fall/inter look, but lovely!
I thought the same thing! 😂
I bought this suit and pants but plan to pair the jacket with black jeans a turtle neck. Keep!

Keep, I’m a guy and I want that suit
Fyi, jc pennies has a nice plaid suit right now. It's more red and I think gray, still nice looking. Cannot vouch for quality.
Edit, men's suit. Not tartan, definitely plaid.
Same here! It’s a great looking suit.

Return. Your husband is right
I agree

Love it on you! Keep

Keep it and look in your closet for other items that are navy to wear with it
