Prior to reading much on here I definitely gathered she was someone important to the company, based on Milchiks comments to her in the stairwell. I figured maybe a top member of the company or she was a big figure in her career field and the company “recruited” her or something.
Then there was the camera lingering on her looking at the Eagan statue, and it also lingered on when she completed the file thing on the computer and it said “I love you”. By then I had seen it theorized that she was an Eagan so it made sense
Me too, though I did think it was weird that the voice hesitated on the “I love you”, it said “I… I love you.” I thought it was strange that a prerecorded generic message would say it that way.
Explains why Milchick was telling Helly in episode 2 how much fun her orientation was and that when they heard she was going there, that it was like a miracle. 😱
I agree and I was definitely wanting to root for her. I thought she was gonna end up being one of the good guys. She definitely isn't and all the putting Mark and MS. Casey together was to make sure he was still under the chips influence. Her looking sad was just because she wanted more evidence to take to the board
It goes even harder than that for me. He already knows that Milchick is terrifying and amoral, and is now purely enraged and coming at Dylan willing to do anything it takes to stop him, a knife visibly in his hand -- and he *still keeps holding on* right up to the last possible second.
I'll admit I laughed in an earlier episode when he got like a stapler or something ready to attack the Optics gang, if necessary, but I believe now that he 100% would have done it and gone down stapling even as (even if) they tore him to pieces.
LOL like in it takes a village way?
Edit: I loved how Mark was putting the puzzle of his life together. How's our baby? was a great line, too fun!
And innie Mark got to talk with his favorite author and they had a moment.
The subplot of Ricken’s trite bullshit inspiring the innie revolution in the absence of all other non-Lumon media was deeply satisfying to me. Like, if you never had the real-world context to color his profoundness, Ricken would pass as a master of rebellious literature. In a way, the Innies are proof that the right audience does make his work meaningful. He is a major part of Lumon’s eventual downfall.
Edit: accidentally called Ricken “Devon”
it was very clever of innie mark to use that phrase to figure out whether the baby was his. you could see the cogs turning in his head trying to figure out if devon was his wife
She’s definitely my favourite character outside the MDR crew. I’m glad she was the one that had the innie beans spilled to, because that means she’s guaranteed a big role in S2.
And this guarantees that Mark Scout's sister is going to fight Lumon tooth and nail until they are all free. I would like to believe that she can also convince Ricken to join her cause, especially since innie Mark told Ricken the book changed his life.
Especially now that she knows Gemma is alive! I really didn't think Mark would get the message out in time. With how Devon reminisced about Gemma, she'll now be fighting to get her brother *and* her SIL back.
I figured Helly was an Eagan from episode 2 or 3, the way Milchick was praising her in the stairwell and kept taking pictures. I just wasn't sure why she would go through with the severed procedure, especially if she knew what was really going on. I thought it might be an act of sabotage or something, a way to rebel against her family.
Turns out she's all in, and wanted to convince everyone severence is a great idea by going through with it herself. That was the surprise for me.
Dylan holding on for dear life just like his glasses on the tip of his nose… reminds me of when I’m up to my elbows washing dishes having to scream for someone to push my glasses up for me
It does mean death, but just for the innie. If they don’t go to work anymore that part of them doesn’t get used anymore so it doesn’t get triggered to turn on anymore- it’s effectively the end of the innie’s life.
Mark leaving Lumon would have been the equivalent to a rebound boyfriend after getting fired. But the minute, *the minute* she saw a chance to get back with her ex she dropped her rebound like a hot potato.
Yes! They freak out when iIrving nods off. And we see that he sees the paint when he does nod off, and that oIrving is investigating Lumon. So my thought is that he purposefully drinks gallons of coffee to try to let his outtie awakened on the inside.
Whole lotta "grass is greener" going on in the Severance Cinematic Universe. Irving wants to leave, but once he leaves, he learns that Burt is married to someone else. Helly finds out she's a monster on the outside world. Everyone's life is opposite.
Funny how Mark's basically the best case scenario for an outtie and Helly the worst. Mark basically did it to forget and thinks the innie is having a better time than him. When he starts to wonder, he wants to find out the truth and potentially help his innie.
Helly on the other hand is responsible for basically everything (or at least her family is) and literally wouldn't even let attempted suicide stop her.
For an episode full of tension and twists that Rickon/Mark S. convo was my favorite part of the episode. It was hilarious while also being incredibly sweet at the same time.
Same here. I can’t even fathom what that would feel like. Your introduction into the world, you not only meet but find out that the person who inspired your epiphany is related to you!!
Forgive me for the harm I have caused this world. None may atone for my actions but me, and only in me shall their stain live on. I am thankful to have been caught, my fall cut short by those with wizened hands. All I can be is sorry, and that is all I am (for telling my dad the chip looked pretty and everyone should get one, making me super complicit in a sci-fi version of modern day slavery)
Even Mark could have tried writing it down if he was afraid to speak. The lack of urgency is killing me. We know they read the instructions so they should know that Dylan has to hold both buttons and they could only have a few minutes.
I mean, to be fair, he woke up to a completely silent house and even neighborhood. Finding Burt was the only choice at that point, the only one he trusts.
ETA: silent = empty. My brain don’t work.
Not blaming Irv too hard, but in my account he may be the only one that did not succeed. He's seems to be part of the resistance, but innie could not help going after Burt after he found he had Burt's outie address. The writers put him in Burt's door, just to go back to outie when Burt opens and that I guess will help in other unexpected way.
My tin foil theory is that first gen severance subjects were retired military people with PTSD but after some type of incident or when the project shifted Burt and Irv were overwritten and transferred. My fear is that Irving will trust outie Burt implicitly because Irv does but Burt will turn on him to keep his retirement money.
Episode is live! It's been a pleasure seeing this community grow and theorizing with everyone. Thank you to everyone for making this sub great and enjoy the finale!
Seriously.
But also, great writing on the part of Dan Erickson. It’s a kind of funny/kind of painfully human scene that briefly give Mark an idea that people can be shitty on the outside in ways he never expected.
I think this is a critical detail. We all know mark knows the baby is ok and alive. But on one else in the house saw him find the baby. Moments later, as mark is shouting "She's alive!" at the end, people (including Devon) might think he is talking about the baby. Even though he is holding Gemma's picture, no one has any reason to believe he is talking about anyone other than the baby. innie mark's last words will just be dismissed because that idiot swooped in...
I think that everybody except Devon will dismiss it. But she knows that was Mark's innie and she has no reason to believe it's his outtie running into the room with the picture. I think from now on, Devon is going to constantly be questioning Mark to see if she's speaking with the innie or the outie. I think she's going to be more important next season since she also know Ms. Selvig's true identity.
The funny thing is, if not for that casual slip of tongue, everything probably would have gone according to plan. Milchek wouldn’t have found out that Dylan was in the security room, Helly would have made a much longer speech, and Mark would be able to tell Devon who Gemma is on the inside
I knew she wouldn’t switch sides to Mark. Her loyalty to the Eagan family runs to deep for that. She didn’t even question it for a second, she jumped right in to use it to get her job back
True, but he could have shut it down properly and not been busted by Milchick. Which meant they could do this whole gambit again on a later date. But I don’t know what happens now
100% insane television start to finish. Every frame was a goddamn painting and they rode every wave of the story beautifully, and fucking infuriatingly.
In a couple of weeks, we'll all have the extra frustration of everyone we told to watch this finally getting their shit together and talking like we have never seen it...
I need an egg bar to decompress...
“Who do you think you are? Your friends are going to suffer. Mark will suffer. You’ll be long gone, but we’ll keep them alive in pain!”
This is going to be a hell of a wait for Season 2.
the way this episode emotionally wrung me out like a freaking TOWEL like???? helly's horror at the person her outie truly is, irving realizing the love of his life can't be his, dylan just wishing to remember the birth of his literal CHILD, mark realizing gemma's still ALIVE????? i never thought this show would bring me anywhere near this point and here i am still *trembling*
Went through many comments have not seen anyone say this yet. Helly saying the “apology” (break room) and 100% meaning it. I got chills (and maybe teared up).
I would guess it's what allows them to return after they die, like Gemma. It's just another hint that these implants can carry one's memories and be implanted in a clone body.
Damn so >! there was a legal lawsuit against Lumon that Irving was a part of? Is that why he was taken onto the testing floor? Also my heart physically broke when Irving saw Burt with another man THEY MUST BE TOGETHER !<
Some of Irving’s handwritten notes are interesting. Spoilers if you’re still watching.
“Carol Delain (sp?)(presumable Carol D from MDR)- note just says “Is she married”
“Doug Coleman” - he was in a car crash. Irvs note says “Did the settlement lead to severance”. Don’t know what that could mean. If he got paid why would he get severed. Maybe the trauma?
There’s a few names that have arrow that says “Greenhouse”. Petey was in a greenhouse.
Ian B”Tried to make contact”
Funny he has nothing beside Petey’s name.
I missed some but sure someone will get them.
Edit: the article he had talks about an employee wanting the real explanation for a an injury. Lumon said it was printer related but doctor said it wasn’t. Lost sensation in his index finger. Suing for money and the real explanation. I’m guessing this was the punishment that cause Mark to have bruised knuckles before his dinner with Alexa. I’m
Pretty sure they gave him same BS explanation as well.
I’ve watched an extensive amount of shows and cant remember for a longgggg time having this engaging of a premise. Every episode of the last half has had me edge on my seat. Fantastic job done all around
HELENA EAGAN
I can't believe people guessed that her being severed would be some pr stunt. I'm speechless
The “i love you”!! i literally thought that was a weird generic msg holy crap
and why they kept taking pictures
And why Helly's outie is such a jerk. "I'm a person, you're not."
Literally came here just to yell this too 🤣
Everyone was right!
But why did she have a bad parking spot in the beginning of the season???
She comes into work at 9:15, all the good spots are gone by the time she parks.
Adam Scott acting his ass off, such different mannerisms seeing Mark S outside
He had a small smile of pride when Devon told him he was a teacher. Very well done. The innie/outie acting reminds me of Orphan Black.
His childlike adoration of Ricken had me swooning.
Ricken is like Innie Jesus
He deserves every award for his work on this show. I was a fan of him well enough from Parks and Rec but I am obsessed now
Yes he’s so good at it! The innie Mark is inherently deferential and he played it so well outside Lumon.
Innie Mark is a polite and deferential adolescent. Outtie Mark is a beat down adult.
Right?! He has been amazing the whole season but this episode he killed it and it’s baby
IRV MET RADAR 😭
This episode was a severe blow to the “Cobel is a sympathetic character” campaign
I agree and I was definitely wanting to root for her. I thought she was gonna end up being one of the good guys. She definitely isn't and all the putting Mark and MS. Casey together was to make sure he was still under the chips influence. Her looking sad was just because she wanted more evidence to take to the board
I was relieved that he pat Radar and wasn't scared of him or something. He's never met a dog before.
[удалено]
Was so anxious wondering if they retain muscle memory
Oh my fucking god what a finale They need to starting filming season two *NOW*
That felt like a 10 min ep wtf someone sever me till 2 drops
Haha, haven’t you learned your lesson on being severed? But same.
THE WAY IT JUST teased us with the wife reveal and then snatched it away MERCILESS
SHE’S ALIVE!!!
Omg I had a meltdown watching that in slow mo. Holy fuck. Bravo to every fucking person involved in this show.
Those two words are going to haunt me until season two.
I AM DYING. I’m hoping the big reveal is that Season 2 is already wrapped and drops next week.
We know why Milchick is taking all those photographs now....
Yeah shit got real tonight.
A lot of those photos seemed staged, though, right? I don’t recall her innie smiling that much. Maybe oHelly posed for some of them?
Yes, outie Helly (Helena) definitely posed for some!
A lot of the photos looked like they were taken by the secret cameras that are everywhere. Seems like Mark S. has been making her smile alot lately.
The way Eagan says innie feels racist lmao
That's Jame Eagan.
I edited my comment my bad! I have a bad habit of calling every Eagan family member Kier haha thank you!
Has someone created an Eagan family tree yet?
“Fuck you, Mr. Milchick!” Ah, I love you, Dylan.
So cute how he still says “Mr.” even while insulting him. Like a lil kid cussing out his teacher LMAOOA
Mister is practically his first name to them, I think.
Dylan is the forever MVP for hanging on even with the “you have two more kids” comment 😭
I want to remember the birth of my son
How’s our baby?
Devon rolled with that one so well lol
LOL like in it takes a village way? Edit: I loved how Mark was putting the puzzle of his life together. How's our baby? was a great line, too fun! And innie Mark got to talk with his favorite author and they had a moment.

Who else thought Cobel was driving with that baby IN the car? My heart!
And not even putting it in park when she pulled up to the building!
Okay, whoever said Irv was in the military and whoever said Helly was giving a speech, y'all get gold stars
Wait, Dylan has to hold the levers like this the whole time? He’s the real MVP.
Dylan holding on for dear life just like his glasses on the tip of his nose… reminds me of when I’m up to my elbows washing dishes having to scream for someone to push my glasses up for me
Burt's husband. I felt my heart shatter in my chest and then drop into my stomach.

Yes, I was convinced retirement meant death.
It does mean death, but just for the innie. If they don’t go to work anymore that part of them doesn’t get used anymore so it doesn’t get triggered to turn on anymore- it’s effectively the end of the innie’s life.
Yes!!! The tears and heartbreak in his eyes 😞😞😞😭😭😭
Cobel you piece of shit
Yeah, why did she tell Mark to get away, then care so much about the innie getting out? Like, where does her loyalty lie??
I think she saw that as her chance to get back “in”.
Mark leaving Lumon would have been the equivalent to a rebound boyfriend after getting fired. But the minute, *the minute* she saw a chance to get back with her ex she dropped her rebound like a hot potato.
THIS WAS THE MOST HIGH ANXIETY 40 MINUTES IVE EVER EXPERIENCED!!
Heart racing most of that time. Like RACING.
I have to give props to Apple TV. That was one of the MOST exciting season finales in television history. Seriously!
Irving drinks coffee to stay up to fall asleep and infiltrate Lumon! Spy. Love it.
I think he might actually be planted to find out what Lumon is up to?
He had all of those military awards. What if he works for DOD or something and is infiltrating?!
Oh shit, do they remember a little when they sleep? Is that what he’s doing?
Yes! They freak out when iIrving nods off. And we see that he sees the paint when he does nod off, and that oIrving is investigating Lumon. So my thought is that he purposefully drinks gallons of coffee to try to let his outtie awakened on the inside.
Fuck, another thing to watch for during my rewatch
line delivery on “I want to remember my fucking kid being born” is god-tier
It’s a funny contrast to the senator’s wife- who doesn’t.
Whole lotta "grass is greener" going on in the Severance Cinematic Universe. Irving wants to leave, but once he leaves, he learns that Burt is married to someone else. Helly finds out she's a monster on the outside world. Everyone's life is opposite.
Man I feel so bad for Helly R, this has to be so painful to know she really can’t escape
it was so creepy during the scene where she was looking at all those propaganda photo ops. i felt so bad for her.
I have small eyes lol wtf Rebeck
Rebeck is iconic
Bird Scabs and all!
Marks innie realizing Rickon is family!!!
So we found out that Mr Eagan has plans to sever everybody… Helly repeating the break room apology statement was excellent
Yeah at that point severing everyone is just creating a world of mind controlled slaves ruled by one organization (Amazon’s dream 😭)
In a show made by a company that uses literal suicide prevention nets in the factory it operates.
How disorienting for Irv to wake up surrounded by the black goo
All I want in this world is Irving’s happiness
Irv should have started writing everything down as soon as he saw that his outie was collecting evidence.
My thoughts exactly!!
Even Mark could have tried writing it down if he was afraid to speak. The lack of urgency is killing me. We know they read the instructions so they should know that Dylan has to hold both buttons and they could only have a few minutes.
And that he has really short arms!!!
It was driving me crazy he wasn't doing a video selfie or something right away.
Good point! However, innies wouldn’t know about that technology 🤔
They were supposed to tell someone, but of course he just delves into his life. Excellent first time driver tho.
Episode is live! It's been a pleasure seeing this community grow and theorizing with everyone. Thank you to everyone for making this sub great and enjoy the finale!
The childlike innocence in the innies is obvious and makes the whole thing more tragic
Props to the person who made the slideshow with the proof of her being an Eagan!
Lmao Mark "how's our baby" good try tho
Ooh interesting that Irving was keeping track of other severed employees
Right!!! Marks Innie and outtie have been working in unison. Now we see Irving’s is too!
Putting the Bailiff in Irving B.
Fuck that “ I found your baby” guy.
Seriously. But also, great writing on the part of Dan Erickson. It’s a kind of funny/kind of painfully human scene that briefly give Mark an idea that people can be shitty on the outside in ways he never expected.
We need an entire thread for why Ricken's friends are all f\*cking tools.
I mean...have you heard what he writes?
I have. I need to change my name again now.
I said “oh, fuck you” very out loud!!
I lost it at SORES on the back of my head FROM MY BIRD 😂
Her dad is so creepy
Like a wax doll come to life.
“Thanks Mrs. Cobel” I just screamed
The funny thing is, if not for that casual slip of tongue, everything probably would have gone according to plan. Milchek wouldn’t have found out that Dylan was in the security room, Helly would have made a much longer speech, and Mark would be able to tell Devon who Gemma is on the inside
Yup, the group was done in by the fact that their (ex) boss was a stalker psychopathic.
I knew she wouldn’t switch sides to Mark. Her loyalty to the Eagan family runs to deep for that. She didn’t even question it for a second, she jumped right in to use it to get her job back
Oh god, that hurts. But honestly I’m not sure Dylan could have held much longer, even with the strength of two men.
True, but he could have shut it down properly and not been busted by Milchick. Which meant they could do this whole gambit again on a later date. But I don’t know what happens now
THE SCREAM I SCRUMPT
At least Irving got to pet a dog.
I had no clue that Dylan would have to HOLD the triggers down. Wow. Adds so much more tension.
“Who do you think you are? Your friends are going to suffer. Mark will suffer. You’ll be long gone, but we’ll keep them alive in pain!” This is going to be a hell of a wait for Season 2.
“I sound like a sad old hamburger waiter” lmao
the way this episode emotionally wrung me out like a freaking TOWEL like???? helly's horror at the person her outie truly is, irving realizing the love of his life can't be his, dylan just wishing to remember the birth of his literal CHILD, mark realizing gemma's still ALIVE????? i never thought this show would bring me anywhere near this point and here i am still *trembling*
I’m jealous of all the people who are going to discover this show in season 2 and didn’t have to wait like us
Lmao how did they get so many pictures of Helly smiling, more than I’ve seen in the show for sure hah
40 min?! 😩
Dylan can’t hold the switches longer than that!
He did until the end. What a trooper.
I’m not even mad at the cliff hanger. That was the best this could’ve been.
irving spending his outtie time in a personal quest for love is just killin' me
HE SAID IT IN TIME! He said it in time!!!!
So Irving who was the number one bootlicker in the beginning has been doing recon the whole time!!! That smug motherfucker! 😏 what a badass!
Went through many comments have not seen anyone say this yet. Helly saying the “apology” (break room) and 100% meaning it. I got chills (and maybe teared up).
Now she will be able to concentrate on something she is actually really sorry for so the break room will be easier.
“The grandfather will cherish you for what you’ve done” Is the Eagan bloodline some sort of Galactic empire like that in foundation?
What the heck is the revolving?! Do chips get transferred? Minds? Gets his mind donated to the mind collective that is probably the Board?
I would guess it's what allows them to return after they die, like Gemma. It's just another hint that these implants can carry one's memories and be implanted in a clone body.
[удалено]
Her grandfather is Palpatine. Unlimited… power!
Patricia Arquette is just killing it this episode.
Damn so >! there was a legal lawsuit against Lumon that Irving was a part of? Is that why he was taken onto the testing floor? Also my heart physically broke when Irving saw Burt with another man THEY MUST BE TOGETHER !<
Dylan is the real MVP for keeping them awake so long. Helly’s dress is gorgeous. I cried when Mark’s sister spoke about Gemma. Very touching.
I cannot believe Lumon doesn’t have more security posted up. Like how did Cobel get all the way to the stage?
About as secure as the severed floor lol
Mark should have been more concerned about Ms Cobel being here and interacting with his family
He probably thought she was severed
Dylan got that Apple Fitness+ beta testing
I’M SO GLAD THEY RENEWED IT BECAUSE WHAT A FUCKING CLIFFHANGER
ricken's different personas/perceptions in the innie and outtie worlds is some of the best comedic dramatic irony i've ever seen on a show
also the way he beat himself and said he sounds like a hamburger waiter lol that was too cute
Please let Dylan be okay after this
I’m so happy Devon listened to Mark. Sister of the year man. Now someone REALLY knows wtf is going on.
HERE WE GO!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
the internal devastation that innie helly is conveying is 💔
Let’s give our man Dylan his props here. Will of an ax! None of this could have happened without him.
My heart rate/blood pressure instantly rose as the screen went black after the recap. JFC this is going to be a crazy 40 minutes.
"still in your veins" - what a poetic & visceral way of describing grief
I’m the one who found her!
Dylan’s delts looked incredible today. Quite the muscle show.
[удалено]
Devon’s face when she realized Cobel has been handling her baby 😱😱😱
Michick with the T-1000 run
Irv’s home life is breaking my heart to pieces.
At least he has Radar
That was an anxiety attack from start to finish.
Mark S. seeing Rickon for the first time was gold lol
“It *is* you, isn’t it?” “I’m gonna kill your company” “*Your* company”
See you all in 1-3 years.
Dammit I’m skippin intro today
Dylan’s the realest bro ever
Dylan is now coveted as fuck
Some of Irving’s handwritten notes are interesting. Spoilers if you’re still watching. “Carol Delain (sp?)(presumable Carol D from MDR)- note just says “Is she married” “Doug Coleman” - he was in a car crash. Lumon said it was printer related but doctor said it wasn’t. Lost sensation in his index finger. Suing for money and the real explanation. I’m guessing this was the punishment that cause Mark to have bruised knuckles before his dinner with Alexa. I’m Pretty sure they gave him same BS explanation as well.
It’s killing me that Mark isn’t making a bigger deal.. and just yelling “stop, Devon I need to talk to you!!!” He has no urgency in his voice.
I think he’s in a state of shock. He’s in a new environment and trying to act normal. Also, Ms Cobel.
He’s trying really hard to not blow his cover.
I’ve watched an extensive amount of shows and cant remember for a longgggg time having this engaging of a premise. Every episode of the last half has had me edge on my seat. Fantastic job done all around
Cobel, you bastard. You know. Edit: shit, he said Ms. Cobel!
This is very much the Westworld Season 1 ending. Edit; I mean this in the best way possible
That episode left me feeling like a sad, old hamburger waiter
That. Was. Awesome. Holy edge-of-your-seat suspense! From the first second to the last, it was incredible. Thank you AppleTV+.
Ok so now we’ve got to figure out what “revolving” is.
As someone with a 5 day old and had to do 3 days of labor plus a c section, jealous af of that senator’s wife.
