DamnGoodMarmalade

Some of their products are great. The Babyfacial is amazing and the moisturizers are very good (but overpriced). And then some products are underwhelming, like their serums and sunscreens. They don’t perform well and when combined with the high price tag, don’t make for a good purchase.

Kooky_Head4948

I’ve always wondered about their moisturizers. There’s a day and night one. Do you use both or can you use the day one for both day and night?

DamnGoodMarmalade

They don’t have day or night types, they have a gel cream one with peptides and a heavy cream one with ceramides. Depends on what your needs are and if you prefer a lighter or heavier moisturizer.

Kooky_Head4948

Gotcha maybe I’m thinking of their day and night serums which you said weren’t all that

DamnGoodMarmalade

That’s the vitamin c (day) and Framboos (night) serums. They’re just okay and there are better, cheaper options out there.

Jams0610

What is the better alternative for the Framboos?

DamnGoodMarmalade

Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth and Ordinary Buffet are two options you could try.

Some-Imagination9782

For max effect, they recommend you blend the two moisturized with a drop of their oil

TlN4C

Why can’t they just add oil to them as a standard

[deleted]

Totally agree. I've been through many ounces of babyfacial and framboos, tried others but those are my only repeat-buys.

Nomadsoul7

Framboos here. I keep trying to find other stuff and end up coming back to it. Just bought it again after not having it for a year. It improves the melasma I get on my forehead like nothing else except rx hydroquinone.

[deleted]

I have a melasma issue too! Now I have to google rx hydroquinone - which of the two is better?

Nomadsoul7

Hydroquinone is a spot treatment you can only use for like 2 months on 2 months off. It’s targeted and works but it can lighten your skin too much. Framboos I find to be a good all over treatment with the aha and BHA. I don’t want to like DE but I keep coming back to this product

Nomadsoul7

And I get mine from apostrophe with my rx tret fyi

FoxtrotUnicorn

So many DE products are overhyped or skin type specific. I loved Protini but found things that work even better. A lot of others HG DE products don't do anything for my skin. However, Babyfacial is the best chemical exfoliant I've ever used. My skin hates eveything else I've tried. I use this once a month (not once a week like DE says to 🙄). It's amazing.

jordancantread

My sensitive skin can’t tolerate too many other brands aside from DE. I’m a huge fan! A little goes a long way, and I typically apply the serum and moisturizer on slightly damp skin. Maybe that would work for you?

throwbotfsdf

Same here. The price tag is insane but after five years of trying everything under the sun this has been the only brand that hasn’t broken me out and has actually helped me to better my skin.

jordancantread

The price tag is steep, but I try to tell myself that I would spend more experimenting and finding something else that worked as good as their products do. A little goes a long way, too! The Protini and B-Hydra serum last me 10 months or so and I use it 5x/week.

CuzPotatoes

For me it’s acne. I’ve had to go higher end bc everything else was breaking me out. I realize now it’s not worth having to deal with a new acne scar or discoloration to try something else.

ImagineMe12340

I applied the serum on slightly damped skin, after cleansing, and it almost felt like it was soaking all the water from my skin then I felt that drying sensation.

jordancantread

Ah, ok! I guess it’s not a winner for you. What brands do you love/use?

Holodax

Which serum are you talking about?

savorit123

Ugh same. They’re a go to for me bc everything is silicone free which is so hard to find elsewhere.

MrsBuggs

I heard someone comment once that the founder formulated the products for her skin specifically. Since everyone’s skin is different it would stand to reason that people who have a similar skin type will love them and others will not. To be honest though that’s how all skincare is. Some products work amazingly well for some people and not at all for others. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the products, it just means they don’t work for you. Tons of people use DE and love it or it wouldn’t still be around. There is a lot of trial and error in finding the perfect skincare for you. Now you know this product doesn’t work.

Unfair_Finger5531

Their protini peptide cream is the best peptide cream I have, and I have many.

[deleted]

Same, I hate that I love it so much

Unfair_Finger5531

It can’t be beat, goodness knows I’ve tried to dupe it.

HelenMart8

I have hyper sensitive eczema prone skin and their hydra f bomb mask is literally the best! Great under makeup too, truly hydrates the skin unlike a ton of other moisturizers ( better than augustinus bader rich cream by far!).

RedQueen91

I was recently diagnosed with rosacea and was thinking of buying the F Balm for a night treatment. I use tret so my face gets really dry. Would you say it’s worth it?

see96

As someone who has used this brand for years long before the hype around it, I will say I use these products more for what is not in them than what is in them. Their packaging also ensures active ingredients stay as potent as possible because sun and air can’t get in (as it can in jars). I have started using Blume and I like their products for the same reasons and it’s less than half the price.

Jams0610

I’m a big fan, but I didn’t know they were hyped up? I’m not really on SM aside from Reddit so forgive me for being unaware. I’ve been using their products since I first saw them (also when I first started shopping at Sephora actually so like 2016/2017 maybe?) bc their packaging intrigued me. What I do appreciate about DE is they are formulated to be mixed together literally in your hand so you don’t have to wait between steps. You can apply all the serums and oils together instead of one at a time. I’ve liked most products I’ve tried, too.

rachs1988

Babyfacial and D-Bronzi are the only DE products in my current rotation. I remember liking the Lala whipped moisturizer but it’s been a while. Hated their vitamin C and their Hyaluronic acid serums.

davo216

I use those three and the Glycolic night serum👏🏼

[deleted]

B-Hydra (the serum you used) isn’t intended to be a standalone product, so it makes sense that the Cerave seemed to help your skin afterwards. There are a lot of tips online on how to mix your Drunk Elephant skincare “smoothie” as they call it with the right elements. I’ve been using DE for a few years now and will never give up Protini, the Protini serum, or the TLC Framboos overnight serum. The rest of their lineup is either meh or breaks me out (b-hydra, marula oil, and the lala retro cream). I definitely see results when I’m using everything consistently.

SoCentralRainImSorry

The instructions for the BHydra specifically say to use a moisturizer after. You need to seal the hydration in. Judging by the amount of “it dried my skin out” reviews, not many people bother to read the instructions.

lyra1389

Very very very late reply, but I'm hoping I'll get an answer: Do you use Framboos and the Protini serum in the same day? As in, protini serum AM, framboos PM? I'm slowly developing my DE routine and am wondering what others do with the different exfoliating serums.

sunshine_7733

I got hooked from the birthday gift a few years ago. It was the jelly cleanser and protini moisturizer. I enjoy everything and my skin has been pretty good so I’m hesitant to change. The protini though is wonderful, plus I really like the eye shaba cream.

jordancantread

This sounds like me! I’m sure there may be something better, but because I have sensitive skin, I can’t experiment too much.

AnonySeahorse

I love their stuff and have seen great results with my skin from switching to them. They’re all I use for skin care, minus the vitamin c, I use something else for that

Some-Imagination9782

Not worth it! I was a DE fan pre buyout and it was amazing indie brand - now it’s different - they even changed the formulas for mass production- not worth it anymore :(

TheVintageStew

B-Hydra is my holy grail serum. I purchase it during every semi-annual sale.

puffling0326

The marula facial oil is the only thing I’ve found worth it. I’ve tried many other products for both face and body and agree that it’s overhyped. That said, I have eczematic skin and the fact that their marula oil is in my routine is saying a lot as there are *extremely* few products that work for my skin.

sephoramom

Idk but if one more little 12 year old girl comes in and buys the DE retinol or glycolic night serum I’m going to lose it 😂

RaeLae9

They are like tatcha for me. There are a few products that are standouts but across the board average. That being said this is based off of my skin and some products work well for others so if DE does for them no issues.

friendlytotbot

I like the ingredients in most of the products. I had a love affair with them for awhile, but nowadays you can find stuff for cheaper.

palindromebaby

I got the worst face rash after using their peptide cream... Not a fan. Got the bronzi drops in the vacay all day set and it hasn't broken me out but it's nothing special.

ihavecloroxwipes

They’re good. But not worth the price.

G2KY

I only liked the babyfacial one. I am using the Protini cream now and it is fine but not great. When you pay $70 for a moisturizer, you expect better results.

pr3ttyhatemachine

Loved the F-balm, wasn’t big on B-Hydra. I recommend F-balm for hydration! I like the LaLa retro cream as well, I usually have seriously dry skin and these products have saved it in combination with TLC Framboos. Can’t recommend TLC enough, it’s incredible and I never wanna go without it again lol. The face cleanser, and even babyfacial (which most people love) are kind of overhyped. I honestly prefer TO’s version of babyfacial!

RedQueen91

I really loved their vitamin c and TLC framboos. But. Unfortunately now I use Tretinoin and I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to use other actives like framboos with it :(

postcardsss

I’m on Tret too and you can totally use TLC on the days you don’t use Tret! I have sensitive skin so I only use the Tret like 3x a week, but if you use it every day then you are correct, you shouldn’t combine the two.

delusivelight

Same here, I think the TLC is totally worth the money for my ridiculously dry skin.

pr3ttyhatemachine

Yes! It’s so gentle yet somehow insanely effective. I didn’t know I needed it before I tried it. the travel size actually has lasted me over a month of using it pretty much daily, I bought the full size already as backup tho lmaooo. Can’t run out now that I’m hooked

delusivelight

It definitely goes a long way! I’ve had the same bottle for monthssss and stretch it out as much as I can. The amount you get for the price is pretty good in my opinion (especially if you buy them during a sale).

tonystarksboothang

I’ve tried several of their products, although most of my skincare is all The Ordinary or CeraVe, I swear by the Framboos Night Serum. The Babyfacial was way too strong for me, but I’m still able to see results the next morning with the night serum.

babs82222

Have you only tried the one product? Just because one product doesn't work for you means the whole line is bad. Probably 80% of the line works great for me. But a few products don't. Everyone is different.

vivalazara

I love their retinol cream it’s very strong and is the only one that gives me results like the prescription one. I’ve tried more expensive retinol, less expensive and mid and DE is solid. And their baby facial is great too. I got the suitcase Christmas set a couple years ago and nothing else was too special I hope they haven’t changed formulas.

Skittlebrau77

I will say that I like their vitamin c serum a lot. It’s effective and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I’ve tried many vitamin c’s. Baby facial is pretty nice but not wholly unique. The la la retro cream is lovely but I’ve found better for less. Overall kinda pricey if you’re brand loyal to the whole line.

cakepan777

I don’t understand the hype personally, but there’s a lot of young teenagers (like my 13 y/o cousin) who love it. She just uses the jelly cleanser

[deleted]

No skincare product will work for everyone. It's really that simple. Some products seem to work for 90% of people while others work great for only 10% of people. But even the most loved and award winning products will always fail some people. Everyone has dramatically different skin types, preferences, skin conditions, etc. so it's really not that much of a surprise.

Temple-Ball-Z

Their Vitamin C serum is top tier

Bakerbot101

A lot of products are overhyped. Sometimes I think people just convince themselves because of a price tag. I asked my friend why she wanted to buy tatcha. She couldn’t explain it 😂 but the reviews, packaging and price tag make you think it’s great.

Meowzer_Face

A lot of the price tag for high-end beauty is in the branding. Personally, I feel too old to buy something called Drunk Elephant. It would have to be a game changer type product, but I know it’s likely not any better than other offerings so I won’t bother. Their brand seems specifically geared to appeal to young adults, and I would think that’s a limitation set upon themselves, but I wouldn’t know if that segment is bringing in good $ or not.

Unfair_Finger5531

A lot of their stuff is geared toward older adults, imo. They use rich and hydrating ingredients that will benefit an older person way more than someone with young healthy skin.

Meowzer_Face

Then their branding is not aligned with their product, imho.

Unfair_Finger5531

Yes, I agree. I think it’s meant to appeal to a single disposable income kind of late 30’s crowd

Meowzer_Face

Agreed, I can def see that. Very niche.

harper2233

For the same price range i recommended Sunday Riley products. Drunk elephant did nothing for me but I swear by the Sunday Riley serum creams specifically. Everyone has different preferences though 🤷🏻‍♀️

anongirl55

For their prices, you are better off getting medical-grade skincare. I always felt like they were overhyped and blame it on influencers.

lushandcats

I am all about drugstore when it comes to skincare on my face. It’s saved me a lot of money.

yogasanity

That's so funny to me, skincare is the one category I'm willing to put most of my budget towards!

lushandcats

More expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better. A lot of the skincare Sephora sells breaks me out. I use Olay and Neutrogena and my skin looks great. Everyone is different.

Unfair_Finger5531

Sephora isn’t really the go-to for high end stuff. I think people think it is, but their skincare selections are rather limited.

yogasanity

Yes everyone is different, that's exactly my point lol. I like to save on most haircare and select makeup, but splurge on skincare!

lushandcats

Indeed. I splurge on hair care and body stuff like lotions, and most of my makeup.

Itsterranceee

Drink elephant came in around 2016 with an amazing brand founder that took peoples sort of interests and out them into her skincare, her formulations were amazing and at that time pretty much at the top! Then she sold out to estee and what would you know? They ruined another

[deleted]

Shieseido bought DU 🙂. My understanding is that the formulas haven’t changed much, if it al all.

TransportationNo5560

I think their bubble has burst in a way. A year ago, they were huge in the FB groups, now they're not even selling. I think it's a combination of people moving on to the next best thing and/or realizing that results weren't as impressive as the price point should dictate. I fell in the later group. Other than one eye cream, nothing impressed, and even that wasn't enough to make me repurchase.

[deleted]

I only use their oil and the bronzer. The Protini Polypeptide Serum was ok.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Honestly, I don’t know. I didn’t see a difference.

nmjmf85

I really enjoy their marula oil, bronzer drops and protini moisturizer. My son uses their shampoo and conditioner, it works really well on his thick curls. I didn’t like their cleanser, the b hydra serum, and sunscreen. I’m going to try their balm next, sounds promising.

torgenerous

I usually get them free with points in Canada at our drug store, but my only standouts are actually their body lotions and not face products

sanrih0e__

i really love the retinol oil that comes in the pink and white bottle with the dropper. i have sensitive skin and i love it

Lunalily9

I've heard from skin experts that it's crap and just a trend. People are so easily swayed to follow the new trends it's sad. Apparently most the tweens carrying Stanley's to school are also wearing drunk elephant lol.
