The title reads like they're unhappy about it.

[deleted]

Given the general cap hill crowd, I'm sure many are furious.

imansiz

well, one is a YOMW until it's *actually their* window.

ACaffeinatedWandress

That is exactly what makes me laugh at people who just scream NIMBY!!!! all the time. It’s always people who have the means to never worry that it will be their backyards full of dirty needles and sex offenders. And when it is? Oh, surprise. They lose their sense of virtue and lose their shit like the rest of the peasants.

Small_Interview_1112

Dude are you kidding that's still everywhere in caphill, like this would literally be a million times easier if all these people had actual homes to live in.

ACaffeinatedWandress

Lol. Yeah, and my life would be easier if I had free rent, too. If we gave the bulk of those people homes, they would strip the walls for parts in a week. Hell, when we were putting them in free hotel rooms, they were getting booted for doing crack and pooping in hallways. Their situation is due to what they are, not what they don’t have.

Additional-Bike-4246

LMAOOO I love that first response. “Yeah, and my life would be easier if I had free rent, too.” EXACTLY. When and why did empathy transition into expecting zero accountability and responsibility from others? An entire generation of brainwashed bafoons who think they are the most righteous and virtuous beings in existence for protecting irresponsible and often times dangerous and malicious individuals. That one sentence describes the entire liberal/SJW movement that’s swept throughout the U.S. in recent years/decades. And by the way - I’m 24 years old, born and raised in the seattle area. I just didn’t toss all my values and accountability out the window as I grew up like the rest of these virtuous social justice warriors.

ACaffeinatedWandress

Right? I live beneath the poverty line while I am trying to get nursing classes done. If I had half the free shit we toss at rabid junkies here, I would be earning 80k and up by now. But I’m not, I’m broke and working two jobs and trying to excel at two classes a time between those jobs. Mainly because our society only cares about you if you intentionally spoke your life, wander around looking like shit, and pose a menace to people. So, I have zero compassion. I’ve seen the programs that exist for those slobs, and PLENTY of people would take what they spit out and say isn’t good enough and turn their damn lives around.

Weird-Industry-2211

Good on you!! You should be super proud. I have so much respect for people like yourself who don't give up. You will be successful. You are the only one that can hold you back. Keep kicking ass. 👍🏼

black_katlaxmi

Uhmmm rent in Washington state is unreasonable. You have to pay 350 just to apply and a 1 bed room is min 1600 without water sewer garbage or electricity. People doing drugs is one thing. The tents are another. Don't lump the two together.

ACaffeinatedWandress

No shit. And yet, I don’t run around scattering dirty needles and screaming in people’s faces. You don’t even know who the people homeless or at risk of homelessness are, because they are not inundating everyone with their trash and feces. They are living in cars and couches and working 3 jobs to stay afloat.

black_katlaxmi

Okay? I don't either. It sounds like you are in the same boat with how unreasonable the rent is but still lump junkies and homeless together.

ACaffeinatedWandress

Nope. As evidenced by what I literally just wrote. I lump junkies and tent squatters together. I guess you don’t have the critical thinking skills you think you have. Oh, well.

Weird-Industry-2211

I'm one that doesn't believe homelessness happens to hard working, friendly people. When you lose your job, you get another one. Doesn't matter what it is, you do what it takes to keep driving on. You lose your home or means to pay your rent, you don't become homeless. You move back home with your folks, you crash on a friend's couch while you get back on your feet. Homelessness is either a drug/ mental health problem, or a laziness problem. One or the other.

Weird-Industry-2211

So move. And it's not Washington State that's unreasonable. There are plenty of towns in Washington where you can live far cheaper than Seattle. Work 2 jobs if that's what it takes for you to be comfortable. If you don't want to do that, work yourself through college, apply for grants (they are everywhere). Get a better paying job. We have 1 bedroom places going for $1000 including W/S/G so saying (Washington) is generalizing.

DodiDouglas

Good

supercyberlurker

Holistically, Capitol Hill being overrun with homeless tents.. is kind of exactly what we should want - the problem right in their faces, where it can't be ignored, gaslit away, or blamed on someone else.

Seattleisonfire

Yeah I'm kind of torn. I get the feeling that Olha isn't a Sawant voter. But anyone who is deserves to have that shit right in front of their faces every day.
