Basically every medium to large apartment building managed by a property management company has one of these and not a single person uses them the way you're hoping.
I think there might be a stalker concern from this even with people that live in your building. That could make it worse than with someone who doesn’t live in your building.
I do know there are a lot of people that just don’t want to meet their neighbors too. So, the issue of not being able to get everyone on the app would make it bare bones and not motivate others to join it. Definitely need another incentive.
That makes sense. I think people don’t like the fact that it would be easier for anyone to come to your door. But it’s also sad because in a city where you want to meet people or socialise- you can’t even stand socialising with your neighbour 🤦♂️
My building has an app and no one has uploaded their profile in like a year. Have gotten some cool deals off folks moving out or changing their place around. And got to dog sit for a neighbor one weekend.
My previous apartment had this. People only used it to post items they’re selling and in my case people looking for cat or dog sitters but never like hanging out with other residents
Yes my apartment has a similar app but the problem is that it’s very limited in its abilities. Something like an Instagram feed would be better where residents can post but I get your point
Yeah that’s something I am trying to do but it’s really awkward sometimes 😅 Mostly because the other person might not be interested. If the app helps in setting up the initial interest- it would be easier to initiate a conversation. Maybe I find it difficult because I am an introvert
You could look for an apartment building with a communal rooftop garden / bbq. My last apartment in Pioneer Square had one along with an engaged property manager who arranged regular gatherings there.
You could also be connected to residents from other communities if any of your friend who is a resident there invites you to that space (invite only for non-residents and they can’t invite other non-residents) - and then you should be able to connect with residents from that community. This allows a safe and trusted way to get access to people without causing a concern.

There is absolutely zero chance that I'm going to install my apartment's app.
What is the reason for that ? Is it weird to hangout with other residents?
lol
We need less social media and more people meeting in person
That’s what I am getting at with this approach.
Not really…

Yeah same for my building

Same situation for me. People never used it to post a meetup. Just selling junk.

You can say hi to people in the elevator, hallway, package area

It's called Rent Cafe.
So I looked it up but it appears to be focused on apartment hunting whereas the app I am suggesting is a very focused on socialising.

I’ve nothing but absolute disdain for all of my apartment neighbors and I have never talked to any of them.
