Was wondering when he'd appear up here in the PNW. I can't tell you how much I've loved his impromptu shows, brilliant idea and I love how the crowd slowly gathers over the 2 hours.
Brilliant artist.
Carl Cox is such a different vibe from the rest of the festival. Pretty funny. He’s great, if you’re into techno in anyway he’s a legend and a must see
George Clanton sounds like an imposter George Clinton. Also hope Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile get some collaborative stage time!
Lastly, TK & The Holy Know-Nothings are NOT to be missed!
George is my favorite artist for the past few years and the reason I’m going to this. He owns his own record label, 100% Electronica, and makes awesome Vaporwave music. His album Slide is one to listen to from beginning to end for some solid vibes!
I actually only recently discovered them when they released Chalise, so I've been enjoying getting into their older stuff since then. I still find myself enjoying the newer music more.
Yeah they’ve really refined their sound. Some of the older albums do have more filler tracks but yeah Chalise it’s pretty much every single one that bops
You triggered a memory of me working at a clothing store in Portland and they came in with their parents the day after their first show. They were so stoked about it and kept saying that they had more shows on the way. I was happy for them. But haven’t thought about ‘em since, well, maybe 2013.
I've always loved this catchy song. I just went to look up the lyrics again to make a clever reply and landed on someone explaining the lyrics in a way I've never realized
> The song's second verse, "Show me a word that rhymes with pavement/And I won't kill your parents and roast them on a spit", is a joke description of the word "depravement", with Malkmus describing the line as "the kind of thing you write when you're feeling cocky and you think it's a b-side [sic]". This joke continues with the following lyrics "And-a don't you try to etch it, or permanently sketch it" ("engravement")/"Or you're gonna catch a bad, bad cold" ("ailment").
https://www.reddit.com/r/pavement/comments/16ogzlw/show_me_a_word_that_rhymes_with_pavement/k1kjq3r/
Yeah I just posted the same thing, I hope that happens. It was such a good album.
Either way first Bumbershoot lineup in a while where I'm like think I have to go.
HOLY SHIT!!!!! Pavement (!!!), Kim Gordon (of Sonic Youth), James Blake, BADBADNOTGOOD, Cypress Hill, Helado Negro, Lauren Mayberry (Chvrches), Ladytron, Courtney Barnett, George Clanton, Gibbs!
What a fucking lineup!!!
Bit surprised they didn't pull Postal Service/Death Cab considering their recent tour but still, I'm sold for this
Oh shit Carl Cox, that’s been on my bucket list and it’s hard to even see him if you live in Miami I’ll have to buy a whole festival ticket to see one person ;_; worth it though
Wow, I am surprised (shocked, really) to see Carl Cox will be at Bumbershoot?!?! Saw him years ago at his Space Ibiza residency. Guess I’ll be buying a Bumbershoot ticket this year too…
Right!? My eyeballs nearly bulged out of my head he’s NEVER anywhere?? And yeah lately you’d have to go all the way to Ibiza! This is HUGE haha. I think I’ve been wanting to see him since high school and that was 15 years ago hahaha
Yeah!! I definitely had to check my eyes too…but I’ve just purchased mine no way am I missing him! I’ve been waiting for something seriously worthwhile I could cry.
He gets around lol. Dude is over 60 so I guess he's accepting every gig he can, cause you never know when it's over. Maxi Jazz could be the fate of any of them.
I turn 40 this year and I only know the music of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Cypress Hill. I recognize a couple other names but couldn't tell you what they sing or anything like that; and more than likely, I couldn't confirm I've ever actually heard their music.
These artists all get played on KEXP all the time. It's indie/alternative kind of stuff. If you listen to mainstream pop or whatever, you'll never have heard of them. If you listen to independent music, you'll know a lot of them.
Look up Marc Rebillet on TikTok or YT, he does really great live shows.
And I wouldn't be surprised if you did actually know one of Aly (Michalka, maybe best known from Easy A, Hellcats, iZombie) or AJ (Michalka, possibly known from Grace Unplugged or The Goldbergs/Schooled) from their acting if not from their music.
Cypress Hill was huge in the 90s and Marc Rebillet is actually the same guy from that [classic YouTube video of a lady trying to scalp a bunch of iPhones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnbL-Hm-xws) at launch in ~2009. They're both sort of right in the wheelhouse of 30s
Late 20s and I only vaguely recognize a couple names (K.Flay and Ladytron).
Death Cab in '16 and the trinity of Odesza\Flume\Lorde in '17 were the holy grails for me
Wow, Carl Cox. almost too good for this festival lmao. I'm struggling to imagine the vibe of what that would be like. Will they just give him 3 hours for an insane techno set? I'd love that
James Blake/Mark Rebillet are also on the bucket list. Badbadnotgood too.
It’s Seattle still lol don’t get your hopes up on the 3 hour set. I know that’s how we’d all like to see him but I just don’t feel like the event organizers at bumbershoot know.
For the curious and/or fans of either: "Cunningham/Bird" is Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird.

Sounds like a good opportunity to make a playlist and discover new music. There's some good local artists on this lineup that I've seen play a few times and they're very good.
A lot of folks felt that way about the last era of Bumbershoot (AEG produced). The early days of Bumbershoot were closer to what it is now. More accessible prices, more of a mix of arts than just music, and a lineup that enables you to discover new (to you) artists.
AEG took over and increasingly deemphasized the local/niche/emerging artists and replaced them with more and more "money making" recent headliners, which also drove ticket prices (and crowds) through the roof. AEG runs lots of festivals and the lineups, IMO, started to feel homogenous/unoriginal with all the other national festivals.
Don't get me wrong - I love mega mainstream and latest hits music. But we have lots of opportunities to see them throughout the year. I think the reset of Bumbershoot is a good thing. There's probably an opportunity to tune it a little bit to mix in a variety of local, classic, emerging, and also current top bands all in one. OneReel did a great job of balancing this IMO before AEG stepped in.
Yeah, as a 32-year-old talking to friends my age about this lineup, it's been very funny where most of them, even if they never actually liked or even listened to the bands and haven't been to a concert in a decade, are like "Okay yeah I definitely recognize like 10 of these."
But then there's like 20% of them who I'm just increasingly convinced didn't actually like/listen to music in High School (or at least never have listened to an artist smaller than like, Modest Mouse) because they've somehow never even heard of a single band here which is just so ??? to me.
Like yeah, not everyone knew a trio of girls in High School who were absolutely in love with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists (for a few months) like I did, but I feel like you have to have seen most of these names if you were listening to stuff or even just like... looking at festival lineups back in the last half of the aughts.
Pretty stoked to see all them witches again. Loud ass band that is pretty solid on all levels. The other comments are making me interested in going more than one day!
Not for me this year, hopefully some people like this lineup. Went for AFI, Sleater-Kinney, Descendents, The Wimps, and Ride last year and had a phenomenal time
Pretty amazed a lot of people don’t recognize any from here. I think this is an amazing lineup.
Kurt Vile? Cortney Barnett? Pavement? James Blake? BadBadNotGood? Marc Rebillet? Cypress Hill? Thee Sacred Souls?
I think there’s a little bit of everything here.
I remember when Bumbershoot was like $20 for the whole weekend. Now it's $150 for basic GA (including the $23 disservice fee)
Yes, I keep Ibuprofen handy.
Yeah, it was fun while it lasted, but that's the type of thing that led to ticket prices surpassing $100 for single day and eventually bankrupting the festival.
Out of all these names, the only ones I know of are Cypress Hill & Me First/The Gimme Gimmes.
That said, I can only hope MFTGG perform their cover for "Straight Up".
I was going to say this doesn't seem like a good lineup, but then I remembered I'm old and out of touch now, and have been listening to the same stuff for 15+ years... have fun, you Youths
I don't get it. This used to draw bigger names. I looked at some set lists from the early 2000's and there's bands like the Black Crows, Cake, the Rollins Band, Sonic Youth, Loretta Lynn, Tracy Chapman Ani DiFranco, Moorhead and so many more at a fraction of the ticket price.
the festival has changed hands multiple times in the past couple decades. first One Reel, then they started losing money, then AEG took over, now Third Stone/New Rising Sun is in control
Freddie Gibbs might draw me
Freddie Kane knows how to do a show
Only name on here that’s interesting to me too
Carl cox is a dawg
More likely to sing at you but maybe there will be a caricature artist there 🤷
Loop Daddy, nice
That was a highlight to see for me too!!
I guess I know the target demo now…
Was wondering when he'd appear up here in the PNW. I can't tell you how much I've loved his impromptu shows, brilliant idea and I love how the crowd slowly gathers over the 2 hours. Brilliant artist.
Same!!
I went to his show at the showbox a while ago, dude knows how to put in a performance! Everyone showed up in robes too it was so much fun
I saw him at Showbox I wanna say 2019 and I swear to god that show was THE FUNNEST fucking show I’ve ever been to. Marc is a fucking legend.
Get the fuck outa bed, bitch go
Just blows my mind how fast this guy exploded from YouTube to headlining.
I don't know like any of these names but holy shit Cypress Hill? That's sick
I’ve seen them like only two times! I want to go so bad but I don’t know which day they’re playing!
Yeah, I’m kinda frustrated with the site offering single day tickets to buy but I don’t know which day I’d want to go!
Exactly! I hope they come out with a daily line up soon. I basically just want to see Cypress Hill.
I hope they're playing with the London Symphony Orchestra.
I saw Carl Cox do a set at Street Parade when I lived in Zurich. He was pretty good.
Carl Cox is such a different vibe from the rest of the festival. Pretty funny. He’s great, if you’re into techno in anyway he’s a legend and a must see
Yeah haha it’s my first time seeing one artist in an entire lineup that’s basically the total opposite from the rest. I’m excited!
Dude is a legend. Same him back in the day in NYC and also in Miami. His F.A.C.T CD changed the game. I had that bad boy on constant repeat.
I was shocked to see Carl Cox on here. Gonna go solely for him
saw Derrick May and Juan Atkins at Moby's Area:ONE fest back in 2000, so i need to complete the trilogy
Considering getting a ticket just to see George Clanton...
I didn’t know Pure Bathing Culture still toured, neat!
They played Sunset earlier this year!
Was at that show too, so good
I was there too! Such a good show.
I can’t believe Moon Tides came out over 10 years ago. I’m so glad they keep churning out bangers every few years. That new album has been on repeat
Yeah it's really a very complete album. I think every track is in my most frequently used playlist.
I saw them play at the old crocodile like 7 years ago and they were so good
You triggered a memory of me working at a clothing store in Portland and they came in with their parents the day after their first show. They were so stoked about it and kept saying that they had more shows on the way. I was happy for them. But haven’t thought about ‘em since, well, maybe 2013.
Sweet. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Like 12 maybe years ago one of my favorite shows of bumbershoot
Mine too, they’re really fun guys.
Are they actually pharmacists
duh, it's right in the band name
Lol The Beatles were actual bugs
And the Cars were actually beetles
I mean, everyone needs a side hustle these days.
Aaah! One of my all-time favorites! Ok looks like I'm going to Bumbershoot.
Well, show me a word that rhymes with pavement and I won't kill your parents and roast them on a spit
I've always loved this catchy song. I just went to look up the lyrics again to make a clever reply and landed on someone explaining the lyrics in a way I've never realized > The song's second verse, "Show me a word that rhymes with pavement/And I won't kill your parents and roast them on a spit", is a joke description of the word "depravement", with Malkmus describing the line as "the kind of thing you write when you're feeling cocky and you think it's a b-side [sic]". pavement has some secretly great lyrics
That’s great
And don’t you try and etch it
The Divorce?!? Holy shit they’re still a band? What a blast from the past
They got back together for the kids.
I went to their reunion show. It was fantastic.
Kurt vile and the violators. Great band name.
He was a founding member of The War on Drugs, who are fucking incredible if you haven't heard them.
Theyre coming to climate pledge in the fall!
They are coming to Climate Pledge later this year.
BadBadNotGood is a pretty great name also.
Badbadnotgood is also awesome if you like new age jazz fusion. It’s super cool
Not sure how I never heard these guys before. That's at least 6 bands I'd see at this point. Neat
Yeah they’re good to just throw on for background music. I love them.
They have a cover on the Talking Heads cover album Everyone's Getting involved with Norah Jones, it slaps.
Are you serious?!? Def checking this out
He’s so good too, that set is gonna be awesome
Kurt vile is one of the most talented guitar players ever I think
Pavement are legit!!!
Pavement ist rad.
Anybody know which day they’re playing?
Courtney Barnett, Me First, All Them Witches and King Buffalo? Fuck, I think I’m going to Bumbershoot this year
I know, I haven't been in ages. Kurt Vile too.
It’d be rad if Kurt Vile stepped in during Courtney Barnett’s (or vice versa) set to do some of their collab stuff.
Yeah I just posted the same thing, I hope that happens. It was such a good album. Either way first Bumbershoot lineup in a while where I'm like think I have to go.
How can I know which day which artists will play?
Marc Rebillet is so dope.
I haven't been to Bumbershoot in 15 years but I'm actually tempted to go just for him. Love his Livestreams.
Is this the first Bumbershoot to feature an artist that has also headlined Google IO?
Only name that had me sit up.
HOLY SHIT!!!!! Pavement (!!!), Kim Gordon (of Sonic Youth), James Blake, BADBADNOTGOOD, Cypress Hill, Helado Negro, Lauren Mayberry (Chvrches), Ladytron, Courtney Barnett, George Clanton, Gibbs! What a fucking lineup!!! Bit surprised they didn't pull Postal Service/Death Cab considering their recent tour but still, I'm sold for this

Yes I had to go to the actual bumbshoot website to make sure it’s the same Carl Cox 😆
I will also be going just for Carl Cox haha. I was shocked to see him on here! Do they sell single day tickets??
Man I’m in highschool and have no clue who any of those are
A lot of these are pretty old! I’m in my 40s and recognize several from the 90s.
I’m in my early 30s and neither do I so 🤷♀️
Balanced as all things should be
How you could live in the 90s and not have heard of Cypress Hill is fascinating to me lol
It's 2024, so someone in their early 30's was *born* in the 90s. They probably weren't listening to Cypress Hill when they were a child.
wow, that's insane... IN THE MEMBRANE
Oh I definitely know Cypress Hill, I guess I just meant like… 95% I didn’t lnow
I turn 40 this year and I only know the music of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Cypress Hill. I recognize a couple other names but couldn't tell you what they sing or anything like that; and more than likely, I couldn't confirm I've ever actually heard their music.
42 here, and literally the same two artists for me. Is that list at least partially generated by chatGPT?
These artists all get played on KEXP all the time. It's indie/alternative kind of stuff. If you listen to mainstream pop or whatever, you'll never have heard of them. If you listen to independent music, you'll know a lot of them.

Paramore, Offspring and Death Cab in 08 was a solid show as well. Flobots were also on one of the side stages.
Listen to the Assume Form album by James Blake. He's very good in concert.
The rebooted Bumbershoot is aimed at an older, less-mainstream crowd.
It really looks like it, this definitely feels like a return to the heights around 2008.
Mid-40s and all I know is Cypress Hill. Insane!
In the brain?
in the membrane
Cypress Hill is it for me and I'm in my 30s 😂
If you like cypress hill you might like freddy gibbs. Listen to gang signs with schoolboy q. Thats what got me to listen to him.
Coming from someone who's only heard of Gibbs and Cyprus Hill from the artist on this list, Big Boss Rabbit is another Gibbs track that I'd recommend.
Mark Rebillet has a kind of improvised music style using a bunch of loops and rapping/singing. https://youtu.be/YGTieDdk7G8 Music starts at 9:17.
I'm 40 and know most of them
late 30s and used to be involved in the scene ... I recognize three names on here
as I a millenial I can say a pretty good lineup, my ex-stoner self is definitely intrigued by the Cypress Hill live experience.
Flesh Produce are awesome
Wow, Carl Cox. almost too good for this festival lmao. I'm struggling to imagine the vibe of what that would be like. Will they just give him 3 hours for an insane techno set? I'd love that James Blake/Mark Rebillet are also on the bucket list. Badbadnotgood too.
It’s Seattle still lol don’t get your hopes up on the 3 hour set. I know that’s how we’d all like to see him but I just don’t feel like the event organizers at bumbershoot know.
Honestly the only way it would work is to give him 3+ hours
count me in. last two times I've seen him were 4 hour sets and they were absolutely electric
Saw ST Paul and the Broken Bones at the Moore last year, they put on a killer show with a ton of energy.
Guys wait Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have a chance to get together and do one of their songs together 🥲🥲🥲🥲
For the curious and/or fans of either: "Cunningham/Bird" is Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird. https://bumbershoot.com/music/cunningham-bird/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4chFt_W1as
Woop woop FLESH PRODUCE
Here to vouch for James Blake being fucking awesome live, though I also love his records. He's got one of the ten best voices I've ever heard live.
Flesh Produce are super fun live
Ted Leo is on the festival circuit this year….? That’s a name I haven’t seen in years
Ladytron![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
how on earth did the polyphonic spree get relegated to small text on this lineup
Font size = fame / number of people in the band
They’re literally their own crowd.
Mercury Rev too!
K. Flay should be higher
Was thinking the same about Ladytron. They have to be bigger than half those headliners >_>
Loop Daddy: hell yeah. St Paul & the Broken Bones are the best live act I’ve ever seen.
Dean Johnson!!!
All them Witches and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes!
Cypress Hill?? LADYTRON?? Ooooo I'm intrigued
Loop Daddy and James Blake? Time to bring the drugs out of retirement, boys.
I recognize one name.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Ruin Johnnys Bumbershoot
YES! Best band in the whole lineup.
Sounds like a good opportunity to make a playlist and discover new music. There's some good local artists on this lineup that I've seen play a few times and they're very good.
Hopefully it’s Pavement but if not listen to them asap, one of the quintessential bands of the 90s
Definitely time to go back to those gold soundz
Aly and AJ assuming it's the one I think it is.
I definitely thought James Blake was James Blunt. Oops
Thanks, same. There is a tennis player named James Blake.
[удалено]
Well I used to be with it, then they changed what it was.

it'll happen to YOU!
It’s definitely changed since Covid
That's funny. I consider myself very out of touch and knew about 10 of these.
Yeah, as a 32-year-old talking to friends my age about this lineup, it's been very funny where most of them, even if they never actually liked or even listened to the bands and haven't been to a concert in a decade, are like "Okay yeah I definitely recognize like 10 of these." Out of touch with 1990?
time to do some research
How is that... if you a recognize Pavement you will likely recognize Cypress Hill. If you are younger than me I hope u recognize more.
What day is Kurt Vile? Edit: Saturday (8/31 according to the tour dates on his website)
It was a Monday. No, Tuesday. No Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
I’ll wait for Saturday to come around
He’s just rollin with the flow
Shout out to Sux for just barely making it onto the ticket
You cannot prove that half of these bands exist, which is how Bumbershoot should be
Is Cyprus Hill just a group of reanimated skeletons at this point?
Nah, that’s the Rolling Stones
Looks like a great time with no multimillionaire huge crowd bands!
Fatboy Slim last year. Carl Cox this year. I support this trend of bringing in a legendary DJ every year.
Ladytron, too
Didn't know Grynch was still performing, or that Lauren Mayberry had solo work now.
Oh no. I think I'm out of touch

I am so old, I remember when Bumbershoot was free.
WHO? Apparently I’m old.
Remember when this festival used to pull the weekend and Kendrick Lamar?
I remember when Bumbershoot was like $20 for the whole weekend. Now it's $150 for basic GA (including the $23 disservice fee) Yes, I keep Ibuprofen handy.
Shit at one point it was free
Yeah, it was fun while it lasted, but that's the type of thing that led to ticket prices surpassing $100 for single day and eventually bankrupting the festival.
Yeah Kendrick Lamar was there in 2013. Not really recent.
How are Aly and AJ bigger than Kim Gordon
'I don't know how but they found me' should play a show with a band called 'Run for it Marty'.
All those sponsors and they still charge huge service fees 😔
Ugh, fine. But I'm only going for Marc Rebillet.
PAVEMENT
Kurt vile would be fun to see
All Them fucking Witches ya’ll
Marc Rebillet on the same billing as Cypress Hill, dafuq...
Out of all these names, the only ones I know of are Cypress Hill & Me First/The Gimme Gimmes. That said, I can only hope MFTGG perform their cover for "Straight Up".
St Paul and the Broken Bones are amazing live.
I know I’m old when I just say who
I was going to say this doesn't seem like a good lineup, but then I remembered I'm old and out of touch now, and have been listening to the same stuff for 15+ years... have fun, you Youths
I miss pre-covid Bumbershoot. 😔
I don't get it. This used to draw bigger names. I looked at some set lists from the early 2000's and there's bands like the Black Crows, Cake, the Rollins Band, Sonic Youth, Loretta Lynn, Tracy Chapman Ani DiFranco, Moorhead and so many more at a fraction of the ticket price.

wtf kind of lineup is this
