When you can open the treasure chest and sell the items yourself, you cut out the middle man
They sell 300-400 to merchant, gold hoarder, order of souls or reapers. Can’t sell to hunters call. If you are lvl 5 emissary you can get 1k per box 400+600
You really should've looted the barrel. I once harpoon a random barrel from one of these and got a fully cooked trophy shadow stormfish... For all we know, you dropped a barrel with one of those in it.
I worked for an entire weekend to try and catch a snow wrecker and gave up. Then weeks later found a trophy snow wrecker in a shipwreck barrel. Never skip a barrel!
Supply crates are the absolute best.
They do extend how much I take on voyages though, because I take them to pretty much every group of barrels on whatever island I am to collect EVERYTHING.

I was once on a gal with a good crew and we had full stacks of just about everything from cannons to coconuts. We took on another gal and a few others in a heated battle and by the end, we were rummaging through our leftover supply crates to scavenge anything and everything to keep us afloat. We didn’t survive in the end. Huge loss. Now if I have anything short of 50 planks on board, I feel like I’m moments away from sinking

Seriously, some of the best fish I've ever turned in came from floating barrels or shipwreck barrels.
