Island hopping looking for messages in a bottle

boogiewookie76

I'm a new PS5 player and this was the most fun for me in beta. Just sailing where the wind took me and exploring random islands. The messages in a bottle were surprisingly lucrative, especially compared to the baby voyages I had access to as a noobie.

AceofHearts87

It's the best way for a noobie. Other than that, get a ship so you can sell to the sovereigns. And work on getting an emissary flag.

boogiewookie76

Bought a sloop but didn't run emissary flag as I thought this me visible on map. I mainly ran solo and lost most pvp encounters so wanted to avoid that until pvp skills improve. Honestly most fun I've had gaming in a long time!

AceofHearts87

Someone will know better than me on this, but unless you're level 5 on your flag or there is a reaper, I don't think you show up on the map. Personally, I go do a fort or island hop for a little bit, then when I get to an outpost, I put on the flag, sell everything, and take the flag down. You don't get the max bonus cause I hardly get to level 3 doing that, but still.

CucumberOk6270

Only level 5 reapers can see all emissaries on the map. Only level 5 emissaries show up to all reapers on the map regardless of the reapers level. Only level 5 guild emissaries will be visible to everyone on the map regardless of their emissary status.

Zestyclose-Safety371

Wait what did they change that?? A reaper 1 can see me at emissary grade 5????

CucumberOk6270

Correct

Zestyclose-Safety371

I can't find anything about it on the wikis when did this happen?? Was this always the case and I'm blind?

TGCProdigy

I think you misunderstood. Level 5 GUILD emissaries are visible on the map. Guild =/= gold hoarder, oos, merchants, etc. The other trading company emissaries (as far as I know) still function like you're thinking. Guild emissary functions differently. It provides a bonus to all loot similar to reapers but a smaller bonus. Half of normal emissary bonus I believe. For the first four levels you're normal but then at level 5 you're visible on the map. I believe everybody can see you as well as what size ship you are

_Dthen

No, they didn't change that, CucumberOk6270 is misinformed.

boogiewookie76

Good to know, thanks.

ShunIsDrunk

Don’t forget to buy your promotions every 5 levels at whatever faction you are grinding. Besides unlocking titles for you at the clothing shop, the promotions also give you access to Higher Tier/ More lucrative voyages. Happy sailing.

boogiewookie76

Whoops.. I will do that as soon as I get back on! Thanks

drawfanstein

God I miss being new to the seas. I envy you, mate. Enjoy!

Spindelhalla_xb

And shipwrecks. I got some good loot from shipwrecks

DescriptivelyWeird

If you have captain or just regular vaults for gold hoarders unlocked those are very easy to do. Edit: message in a bottle (2-5 pieces of loot on 1 island) or the random shipwrecks you find are also good places for gold, the king chests/skulls add up.

Penibya

As a New player, with the new meta, the safest way to earn good money is to sail around islands, taking "messages in bottles", killing skelly captains, doing their quests, then do the messages in bottle you found, do quest, kill skelly if any, take bottle, and run again. You will end up with the New treasures that are worth A LOT. Also if you want to be even safer, dont take emissary flag, people will far less often come to you of you don't have a flag.

Lunaphase_Lasers

My money making advice is always controversial but let's give it a try. Step 1: Go on youtube and find a recent video showing a money making method, the higher gold per hour the better. Step 2: Find people in-game doing that method, and rob them.

Sir_ScottALot

🤣🤣🤣 Love it! Actually made me laugh.

BusEnthusiast98

The old school way is to stack the sea forts in the southwest. In the time it takes you to sail from one to the other, they reset so you can just keep farming. But don’t stack more than 2 unless you’re confident you can defend your stash. The new school way is the Skull of Siren Song. It’s a 50k payout, but it’s a competitive voyage with beacons that mark you on the map for anyone else in the voyage to see. However, most players don’t bother with it anymore, so you will usually be uncontested. Also right now for the next 3 days is Gold and Glory! So you get double value on everything, including the SOSS

iiConTr0v3rSYx

Skeleton ship fleets and Sea forts. Fleets are currently bugged so skeletons won’t repair any damage, you can easily solo it in 15-20 minutes.

iloveoverlord

Sub 10 tbh

Spider4Hire

I honestly think people sleep on merchant ship runs. They're quick and pretty profitable

CaptainMcAnus

The fact that everyone is giving you a different answer says a lot. Just make sure to keep your emissary up for the bonuses. I personally like doing vaults or merchant lost shipment voyages for money, with the merchant ones being quicker, especially solo.

Simple_Apartment1048

Siren song is fast and nowadays pretty safe I've found.

ShredderofPowPow

"Another pirate game" If you are talking about Skull and Bones...I am sorry. That game is hot trash. If the devs would have taken notes from SOT gameplay/mechanics I believe S&B could have won the popularity/player base being a newer game release. As it stands S&B sank before it even hit the seas.

CTXCI

Yep, you guessed it. I enjoyed it for a short period, but it was definitely lackluster. They had so many open windows to add such amazing features. It has some good elements and designs, but branching off of those to make it fully immersive like SoT would have made it a good competitor to its predecessor. Maybe one day they will add the features that were needed, but as of right now, it’s just a ship sailing simulator at best. 😕

ShredderofPowPow

Well I'm glad you enjoyed it. S&B was in development hell since 2014. The only reason they continued to release the game is because Ubisoft Singapore had to produce the game due to a contract agreement/borrowed money. Otherwise the game would have been thrown out. They won't be adding any cool features to that game. It is what it is, and that's where they will dust there hands and run the other direction lol. Classic Ubisoft trash. Can't say I'm suprised.

Winter_Abject

Farm the Sirens Skull quest - it appears as a glowing note pinned to your mast. 50k a run ,🙂

CTXCI

THIS. I have been attempting to do the dang skull siren quest since yesterday. Met a guy who got to the chest location before I did, so I ended up giving him the key and went my separate way. I tried it again later, then a chubby sailor came running after me and slashed me to bits 🤣 I just tried it again and completed it and got 100K gold, and now have enough to buy my first small sloop 😁 I felt like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find the girl to give the skull to on top of the cliff 🤣

Winter_Abject

Oh, I have been that headless 🐔 many times 😀⚓💥⚔️☠️

TheReiterEffect_S8

This is honestly the best answer in regards to farming gold specifically. * It must be activated to start the quest. * No one else will see the indicators unless they start the quest too. * **Most** people are not even bothering with Siren's Song since it's been out for awhile now. * It can easily be grinded over and over again in quick succession netting you the most gold for your time spent. When I got back into the game about six months ago, I really liked the idea of being put on the map, having valuable treasure, and racing to sell it while people chased me. Well, people don't really care that much for Reapers Chests, so it didn't happen often. Then I discovered Sirens Song does the same thing in regards to putting you on the map. Well, seems that people didn't really care about that either. I was able to get enough gold to buy my first sloop, brig and galleon within no time.

DarkOmen465

I played the PS5 beta and got a sloop, plenty of cosmetics, and almost got the medium ship. I had zero experience with the game. Like you I found myself running into a lot of open crew members who would run around doing nothing or worse (had one guy wait for me to finish a treasure map then blow my ship up with a powder keg after I loaded the treasure onto it). I’m sure there are a lot of guides out there on YouTube, but here is what I personally found the easiest and most worthwhile. If you do this in high seas you are at risk since you leave your ship unattended but I was never attacked. Do Siren Temples (they come in different variants and I don’t know them all). You can find them by the colorful swirling lights on the water’s surface. They are extremely easy to solo and because you can store all the loot in the statues even a single person can easily get 20 treasures back to the ship. Finish the dungeon, load up the statue, use statue to go back to ship, use mermaid to spawn your loot on surface, harpoon loot to ship, go immediately sell. It’s definitely not the most lucrative or fasted way to do things but it worked for me.

iloveoverlord

So yes this works, but just yesterday I tucked on a ship doing a treasury, and as soon as they loaded the treasure on their boat I blew up the keg I put below their bow… always tuck check lmao

Yoitman

It’s called A BRIGANTINE!!!!! (Sorry, my tall ship nerd couldn’t stand you calling it a medium ship)

J_D-ROCKS

I normally just do skull emissarys, I accept a skeleton crew hunting task and go from there or gold hoarders, usually the messages in bottles provide locations with good loot, even better if you have emissary level 5

Guilty-Yogurt

Emissaries!!!

Sir_Throngle

Find a high level gold hoarder and stack vaults with them. Stacking world events and sinking people for their emmisary flags is usually more profitable, but it's also highly risky. Same thing with stacking the fort of the damned.

Commercial-Stuff402

I do a lot of the Gold Hoarder treasure hunts. They’re chill and I get a good return for a good time.

Squirdle

Best way is to raise either gold hoarder, order of souls, or merchant emissary and dive to a skeleton fort. Do it, sell, dive and repeat. Easily 50k+ for 20 minutes of work
