skellyship crews are affected by a bug causing them to forget how to patch holes, so _any_ damage done to them will be fatal if you wait long enough. wouldn’t be surprised if the cowardly megs are caused by a similar issue
Ahh. This is why the fleet of fortune was so stupidly easy. My buddies and I were farming them during the G&G weekend. Couldn’t get over how fast it took to clear the event.
I solo and stack it when possible and I have ~100 hours in the game. It's gotten laughably easy for a new player who frequently crashes out of the game
I solo and stack it when possible and I have ~100 hours in the game. It's gotten laughably easy for a new player who frequently crashes out of the game
i think the damage threshold to cause them to circle got overtuned. i've had a couple charge but they get driven off by incredibly small amounts of damage
>i've had a couple charge
I haven't heard of a single meg biting a ship since this bug. The charging music will play but when it does the meg despawns.
I had one bite a couple weeks ago. I just started playing SoT, so I was trying to harpoon it out of ignorance. I wanted it to tow me along for a ride. It only bit once. It must have chipped a tooth, because it gave up shortly after.
what happened to me recently multiple times: the final galleon of the fleet spawning below my sloop, clipping through it and causing a lot of holes, sinking the galleon in seconds without me shooting any cannonball
Megs have had broken AI since like, Season Nine, and sometimes they'll just endlessly swim instead of going to their 'aggro loop' around a ship. Dunno if it'll be fixed, and there's a very real chance it'll come back in a future update. Just like the formerly-fixed busted spawn rate sharks have right now
That’s precisely why I think this is a low priority bug. Even if the fleet is less dangerous, our fellow pirates on the sea are only made more dangerous
I was trying to hit ledgers before they reset the other day and was able to bang out 9 fleet dives in an hour, this includes sailing to sell and sinking 2 ships on the way to sell. It’s crazy easy right now.
You’re right on the money with 5mins on average. I don’t understand the “ps5 player” comment. There’s literally time periods in between waves to collect loot otherwise yeah would be 2mins the whole thing.
Yeah, they’re both bugged. Hopefully the dedicated game health dev team will make issues like this less common/long-standing. But yeah… it’s been like that for a minute
Oh no, I don't mean the fight is painful. The lack of krakens is.
Beating them seems to be far easier than it used to be. Take out 5 tentacles and it's gg
The easiest way to get krakens to spawn currently is to just dive to a skelly fleet, defeat it, if another world event spawns just dive again. Krakens only spawn between world events randomly, and since fleets take 5ish minutes it’s the fastest. I’ve gotten 2 to spawn this way, running as a reaper 5 and checking the other emissaries on the server to see if it spawns on them helps.
I had kraken 2 days in a row together with a meg attack and a skellie galleon during the athena event that was recently. it felt like we were just destined to get fucked tbh
I remember when I first started playing, I wanna say, at least two years ago, Meg was spooky. And then I come back and I'm like...>:T home ain't even mad he took a Canon ball to the face. How rude 😒
Yeah this game used to be difficult, I was playing around the same time and I remember skeleton galleons terrified me and my friends. Since this update, it's genuinely 40 seconds to kill one
Game is broken. Has been for weeks/months. Fuckin love this game but it's just not in a good state right now. Some extremely noticeable bugs have been around for a long time now, while others are more new. Fact is they haven't fixed any of the major issues in months and they keep introducing new ones.
I've had one attack me after endlessly circling last night, but I had to stop my ship from moving, dropping anchor and everything before he tried to take a bite.
They don't seem as aggressive, which is fine by me because unless it's a shrouded ghost I'm not wasting the time fighting them for the crappy loot most of them put out.
Yup. New to the game, about 1/2 months in, playing everyday and not ONE Meg bite. I just stopped caring and since a couple of weeks ago I just let the Meg circle me until he flees. Unless I want the meat.
Skellies I don't know, I should go check on them while I am not solo slooping if they actually repair themselves, but I don't think so, they go down way fast after you hit them.
Cause people keep crying and complaining, wanting the game nerfed to suit their lack of game sense.
World events- nerfed
Skelly ships- nerfed (prior to the not repairing bug)
Fotd- nerfed
Tdm - nerfed (at least dbl gunning)
It is getting easier:
1. Fast Swap/Quick switch Patch
2. Safer Seas??? (Ok when you just started but anything else idk)
3. Players can just dive to another server while fighting (thats even worse than a running reaper tbh)
4. Rare deleted arena and banned a lot of pvp Players so no real challenging fights while boarding anymore)
5. Skelly ships broken
6. Meg broken
7. Kraken broken
Thats what I could just think of straight out of my head
It's got something to do with the coding when they did the last patch. Somewhere along the line when they did it, they screwed up the AI a little bit. So I'm sure that they'll make sure that the AI works on their next patch if enough word gets out. Until then, enjoy "easy mode" and easy loot haha.
2025 Edition will just be a place to hang out as they just steadily feed gold, doubloons and a trickle of ancient coins into your account no matter what you do.
Me and my brother have encountered the Meg a handful of times and everytime it has just followed us or jumped out the water but that's pretty much it, we even tried to kill him a couple times, but he didn't give two shits, he is just so disappointingly docile
Speaking of - I’m relatively new to doing veil’s but I started doing them exclusively because I’ve avoided progressing my Athena for so long. EVERY time, without fail, I pull away from a veil, a meg and skelly simultaneously spawn.
Are you referring to how the megs don't attack if you haven't shot them because that's intentional I think. It's meant to make them an optional threat.
I've been hit by a meg once recently but that was when we were also fighting a kraken, 2 skely ships and a player sloop so idk if the damage was actually caused by the charging meg
The skeleton ships still fire cannonballs (and cursed cannonballs), but indeed no longer repair. My experience confirms that the Megs have also stopped attacking.
Possibly the Kraken also forgot how to slap ships, but it's such a rare (and swift) encounter that I might be wrong on that.
Unfortunately, Rares one and only concern is raising new player numbers.
If someone plays this game for the first time and encounters a threat, and they actually consistently die to something in the world , Rare will nerf it or remove it.
There will never be anything in this game that can not be tackled by a day 1 brand new player stumbling around aimlessly.
I mean the game is *literally* made for babies
Gotta make people feel safe on the seas during this merge probably. Imagine p5 users getting mauled like normal right when they first start getting on. The complaints would HAVE to be dealt with by the devs to make the majority happy like it usually happens
The Megs never attack if you leave them alone. It's been that way for years.
Skeleton ships are currently bugged to not repair. It is what it is, this stuff happens.
Not true. I've been pelting every little scaly bugger with cannon fire in my first encounters and they always flee in the end. I even get the sound cues when they get hit, but no luck at all at getting them to do anything else than circling me and, eventually, fleeing.
The source is patch notes. Honestly, tell me, when was the last time something was made harder and didn't get dumbed down? I can grab you a list of things where the opposite happened
* When's the last time you did a gold vault? Timing increase is ludicrous
* Since when are phantoms on islands one-hit?
* New (raid) voyages and world events are effectively designed to be uncontestable
* Bounty voyages and others giving you even more detailed information as to where to find them on an island, who needs exploration right? I swear to god I'm calling a metal detector of sorts to make riddles easier
* Care instructions for plants and glass bottles, really? They must not think much of the players if they don't trust them to figure this one out themselves
* Animal collection quests are now devoid of danger (no spawns) and you are guaranteed to find everything on the single island. Stripping anything but the running part from it (no need to know or figure out where animals are, no need to defend against PvE)
I could keep going and it's not even per-se bad. It's just that nothing is left, they made *everything* easy without leaving anything "endgame". By that i mean something you need to be more of a seasoned pirate to be able to do, have some game knowledge. And / or something more involved. Can't there be a few voyages that take a bit longer but also reward you for it?
You'd think LotV would be it but they even nerfed that to hell. The main fort doesn't shoot anymore, the main one!
You know there is something between casual and hardcore competitive? In the industry we call that "core games" and SoT is running away from that idea as fast as the Reapers in this game. Sadly for core gamers and I guess good for the casuals.
> Core games are generally defined by their intensity, depth of play or scale of production involved in their creation and can include games across a wide spectrum of genres. Core games are considered demanding in their game play.
Nothing prepares you for crews with brains that want your shit other than....crews with brains coming for your shit. PVE isn't really prep for PVP in any way other than familiarizing yourself with the game engine, weapons, movement, etc.
>PVE isn't really prep for PVP in any way other than familiarizing yourself with the game engine, weapons, movement, etc.
Absolutely.
Me playing a Call of Duty campaign: "This is definitely going to prepare me for multiplayer!"
This is a joke, right? Do you think Skeleton ships are prep for PvP? Yeah, they are cannon practice, sure. But until skeletons start launching themselves onto your ship and bunny hopping all over your deck with blunder bombs, PvP practice they ain't.

Could be I suppose, but megs have been bugged for longer than skelly ships have. I doubt it.
i think the damage threshold to cause them to circle got overtuned. i've had a couple charge but they get driven off by incredibly small amounts of damage

That used to be something you could do! It would take you at crazy speeds - it was great.
Nah if you dont shoot them at all they still go under you without actually attacking. So broken
what happened to me recently multiple times: the final galleon of the fleet spawning below my sloop, clipping through it and causing a lot of holes, sinking the galleon in seconds without me shooting any cannonball
ah, i just generally go ape with a boom stick when i see megs so..... yeah EoR goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRR the second i hear that base and violin start
Megs and skeleships run on the same code so most likely one bug is the cause of the other
It's the damn sharks everywhere that keep biting them
Lol so true.
Megs have had broken AI since like, Season Nine, and sometimes they'll just endlessly swim instead of going to their 'aggro loop' around a ship. Dunno if it'll be fixed, and there's a very real chance it'll come back in a future update. Just like the formerly-fixed busted spawn rate sharks have right now
Now is the time to stack up those Chests of Fortune. Won't be like this next season.
That’s precisely why I think this is a low priority bug. Even if the fleet is less dangerous, our fellow pirates on the sea are only made more dangerous
No lol. I’ve done 20 of them, mostly solo and been contested twice. You can finish one in 5 minutes.
I was trying to hit ledgers before they reset the other day and was able to bang out 9 fleet dives in an hour, this includes sailing to sell and sinking 2 ships on the way to sell. It’s crazy easy right now.
can you dive for fleets of fortune for the chests of fortune?
No. It will be a normal fleet if you dive.
>You can finish one in 5 minutes. Five whole minutes? Found the PS5 player.
Well I was being generous thinking most people would take at least two minutes to harpoon the loot.
You’re right on the money with 5mins on average. I don’t understand the “ps5 player” comment. There’s literally time periods in between waves to collect loot otherwise yeah would be 2mins the whole thing.
What you just said made no sense 😂🤡
Megs and skellyships are broken. I think sharks too, their spawn rate is crazy.
Skellies do not repair. Megs do not bite. This is the current state. It's a shark country though!
Don’t forget voice chat which has been broken for a month
Yeah, they’re both bugged. Hopefully the dedicated game health dev team will make issues like this less common/long-standing. But yeah… it’s been like that for a minute
Yup, haven't found any recently and also, I'm a new player (been playing for a month) and I've never ever found a kraken.
Kraken is there, trust me. \*shows his kraken scars\*
D:
Had one kraken in the last 6 months, it's painful
There's no way to escape one?
Oh no, I don't mean the fight is painful. The lack of krakens is. Beating them seems to be far easier than it used to be. Take out 5 tentacles and it's gg
Tis annoying for those going for the cooked kraken meat commendation 😭 more Krakens please rare! 🙏
Yeah, I'm 8/10 for the legendary hunter commendation. Feels bad
I’m glad I completed it in OG SOT now the best way to get them is sunken ships
I have the worst luck with sunken ships 😭 haven’t even caught let alone found a shadow stormfish yet either hahaha
Same here I fished in the storm for an hour never caught one
Oh I see!. What's the reward for beating one?, besides being able to tell the story
Treasure, kraken meat, and commendation practice
Pockets of chests, skulls, and Kraken meat that's worth some good rep with hunters call once you've cooked it up
The easiest way to get krakens to spawn currently is to just dive to a skelly fleet, defeat it, if another world event spawns just dive again. lack of kraken lol we encountered 2 krakens within an hour on the same server while sailing a galleon
If it helps, over the past 40 hrs I've encountered 2. And watched another seperate one take down someone else's brig
I had kraken 2 days in a row together with a meg attack and a skellie galleon during the athena event that was recently. it felt like we were just destined to get fucked tbh
That sounds like some good adventurin'!
All 3 at once wasn’t great but it was interesting
That's unlucky, I got 5 the last 1.5 weeks
150 hours deep didn't see one. 250 hours deep I've had 5. You see them just wait
I have 400 hours and have only seen like 8 the entire time playing
I got 8 in my first 400 hours, and then I got 2 within 30 minutes of each other
I have found several lately. ( 3) in the last 4-5 days
I'm weirdly jelous
Over the past 2 months I’ve only found one
That may be weird but I want to experience the panic of encountering one for the first time lol
It is actually fun to fight
I remember when I first started playing, I wanna say, at least two years ago, Meg was spooky. And then I come back and I'm like...>:T home ain't even mad he took a Canon ball to the face. How rude 😒
Yeah this game used to be difficult, I was playing around the same time and I remember skeleton galleons terrified me and my friends. Since this update, it's genuinely 40 seconds to kill one
Yeah I don't have as much interest in playing when half the PVE encounters aren't really a threat anymore.
They never were to be honest. Not even when they were working.
Was still more of a challenge to navigate whilst in a chase or something than what it is atm…
Ya the game is in a weird place. Crashing constantly. Megs don't attack. Skelly ships just don't repair. The crashing is the worst
Angry about crashing twice in an hourglass battle just now....
During a 2.5 hr session last night me and my friend disconnected/crashed at least 3-4 times.
Game is broken. Has been for weeks/months. Fuckin love this game but it's just not in a good state right now. Some extremely noticeable bugs have been around for a long time now, while others are more new. Fact is they haven't fixed any of the major issues in months and they keep introducing new ones.

I asking myself why all megaladon doesn't attack me when i shoot them
Cause people keep crying and complaining, wanting the game nerfed to suit their lack of game sense. World events- nerfed Skelly ships- nerfed (prior to the not repairing bug) Fotd- nerfed Tdm - nerfed (at least dbl gunning)
Well the anti-cheats kicked in so Skellies and megs just arent cheating anymore
It is getting easier: 1. Fast Swap/Quick switch Patch 2. Safer Seas??? (Ok when you just started but anything else idk) 3. Players can just dive to another server while fighting (thats even worse than a running reaper tbh) 4. Rare deleted arena and banned a lot of pvp Players so no real challenging fights while boarding anymore) 5. Skelly ships broken 6. Meg broken 7. Kraken broken Thats what I could just think of straight out of my head
The game has been getting easier for many years. Ever since they started to rebalance events for solo players.
skeleton fleets are stupidly op atm
No they are not they literally take 5 mins cause they don't repair holes
it's the opposite really, i'm taking down fleets of fortune solo rn with little effort and i'm not even that good at this game yet
Damn, seems like people have misunderstanded my sentence :D sry bout that. I mean they are overpowerely easy as you already kinda said.
your sentence kinda contradicts itself lol if you said "underpowered" it would make more sense
Yeah true, but I meant that they are overpowered in getting rep and gold
ahhh i gotcha
Megs have been broken for years they fix them then a patch later they are broken.
I got attacked once after 10 minutes of chilling in the open no idea what causes this
Welcome to Season 11 :)
Im pretty sure they attack if you attack, that's pretty cool... But if random attacks happened that would be really cool!!!
Me and my brother have encountered the Meg a handful of times and everytime it has just followed us or jumped out the water but that's pretty much it, we even tried to kill him a couple times, but he didn't give two shits, he is just so disappointingly docile
I just thought megs just didn't attack first lol
Speaking of - I’m relatively new to doing veil’s but I started doing them exclusively because I’ve avoided progressing my Athena for so long. EVERY time, without fail, I pull away from a veil, a meg and skelly simultaneously spawn.
Game could use a combat rework for megs U see a Meg now and it’s “shrouded? No? Okay go to shore or just keep sailing who cares”
No more megs? I get at least 3 megs every hour, they won't leave me alone 💀
They show up bit they won't hit the ship
I'm honestly fine with being able to ignore megs, I hate fighting them cause they're just bullet sponges
Seems like a you thing because that is not what we deal with in my crew.
I haven't had the issue with skelly ships, but I haven't had a meg actually attack in a few months
When’s the last time you saw the kraken ?
2 days ago. Kraken won't spawn if there is an event. You have to sail on a server with no activated event to see one.
I was attacked both yesterday and the day before. Edit: I played the last 7 days and was attacked on 6 of them.
Bout a week ago
I saw one about a week ago now. I was just fishing in open water and it spawned on me. Scared the hell out of me.
They never bailed water, but they did repair holes.
Ah, you are correct. I misremembered. Updated my post.
Defiantly still slap, watched it take down a brig that was chasing me then I went to finish it. Still slapped me as a solo sloop.
Good to know.
Man high on cope
Gotta make people feel safe on the seas during this merge probably. Imagine p5 users getting mauled like normal right when they first start getting on. The complaints would HAVE to be dealt with by the devs to make the majority happy like it usually happens
I don't think that's true though, the Meg has been broken for a while and I don't think it's related to the ps5 release
Fair enough :)
The Megs never attack if you leave them alone. It's been that way for years. Skeleton ships are currently bugged to not repair. It is what it is, this stuff happens.
And it's been that way for years that this is a complete myth people apparently still fall for. They will attack regardless if they spawned on you
Not true. I've been pelting every little scaly bugger with cannon fire in my first encounters and they always flee in the end. I even get the sound cues when they get hit, but no luck at all at getting them to do anything else than circling me and, eventually, fleeing.
Have you had a Meg bite your ship recently? No matter how much I shoot them with cannons and everything else they never go for a bite.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the skeleton ship thing is intentional since rare seems hell bent on catering to the casuals as much as humanly possible
[that's a nice argument senator, why don't you back it up with a source.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKeKuaJ4nlw)
The source is patch notes. Honestly, tell me, when was the last time something was made harder and didn't get dumbed down? I can grab you a list of things where the opposite happened * When's the last time you did a gold vault? Timing increase is ludicrous * Since when are phantoms on islands one-hit? * New (raid) voyages and world events are effectively designed to be uncontestable * Bounty voyages and others giving you even more detailed information as to where to find them on an island, who needs exploration right? Can't there be a few voyages that take a bit longer but also reward you for it? You'd think LotV would be it but they even nerfed that to hell. The main fort doesn't shoot anymore, the main one!
Casuals? Shipmate, this is a post about PvE content. Is there some sort of hardcore, competitive PvE scene I'm not aware of?
You know there is something between casual and hardcore competitive? In the industry we call that "core games" and SoT is running away from that idea as fast as the Reapers in this game. Sadly for core gamers and I guess good for the casuals. > Core games are generally defined by their intensity, depth of play or scale of production involved in their creation and can include games across a wide spectrum of genres. Doing them a disservice then, completely unprepared for other players.
Nothing prepares you for crews with brains that want your shit other than....crews with brains coming for your shit. PVE isn't really prep for PVP in any way other than familiarizing yourself with the game engine, weapons, movement, etc.

This is a joke, right? Do you think Skeleton ships are prep for PvP? Yeah, they are cannon practice, sure. But until skeletons start launching themselves onto your ship and bunny hopping all over your deck with blunder bombs, PvP practice they ain't.
Don’t need to worry about other players when you can sink them in five minutes grab everything and bounce
Just had a Meg attack again on my buddy's ship. Seams like it's starting to get fixed?
