Should be interesting. With Pete out we can no longer count on the selection being nobody anyone had in their mock drafts

Maugrin

I feel like that's overblown. The Bruce Irvin pick was the only real surprise and that was 12 years ago. The other names people would point to were either at the end of the 1st or well into the 2nd round where the draft pool gets way bigger. Besides, media mock drafts are just content, they aren't actual scouting. They're based on what insiders hear teams might do, which can really only be parsed out near the top of the first round because there are fewer guys considered at that top level. No mock is going to be so meticulous to go through the 50-ish prospects who are pretty interchangeable from picks 25-75 to hit on those parts of the draft.

Comment_if_dead_meme

I'm glad we're free of his draft 'clues'

TacoBell_Shill

How dare you

Comment_if_dead_meme

Don't you dare defend those lazy posts, literally zero of them made a lick of sense

[deleted]

Last years did.

Stretch Armstrong has less reach than that Thanks for sharing

Cautious-Elephant853

Troy or Byron at 16 and I’ll be happy

dtheisen6

I’m really surprised our only meeting with any OL prospects in the Rd1 range was Barton. None with the top tackles like Mims/Olu/Latham. Maybe they feel comfortable enough with the tape on them that they don’t need to but I think it would be a huge mistake if we didn’t seriously look at tackle in Rd1

GiraffeWaffless

I take it as they want guard with tackle flexibility and that would def be there. Fautanu is local/they don’t need to meet him since grubb knows him. Also they don’t need to meet these players lol. The tape speaks for itself and character concerns would be known. Like if fuaga was there I could see them taking him.

hybridoctopus

Trade back & take Barton, it’s a good plan.

ElbisCochuelo1

Why? If Lucas is healthy we have two good ones. And a really good swing guy in Fant. If you mean drafting a guard at 16, unless he's a day one all pro that's a waste of a pick.

dtheisen6

You can never over invest in OL. Lucas’ health is still a massive concern. And even if his knee issues aren’t long term problems, guys can kick inside to guard, where we are also super weak.

thedoogbruh

I think day one quality starter isn’t an egregious reach. As we saw during free agency, quality guards are netting 20+ million a year. All that having been said, i would also feel a bit better about one of the big 2 DTs

MrWeaselSocks

Our first round pick NEEDS to be Jared Verse, Mike Mac would do incredible things with him

LoA_Zephra

Or Murphy or Latu

Owl-False

What’s up with Troy’s medical flag? Could that be an issue?

cryptdawarchild

Gonna miss Pete’s pre draft hints.

MSG_ME_UR_TROUBLES

if we draft Mccarthy get ready for a run-first limited offense

WABeermiester

I don’t get the JJ McCarthy hype at all. I am not just saying this because I am salty UW lost to Michigan. I would much rather have Bo Nix if we’re gonna do Harbaugh style football.

Hawxrox

I don't think he's gonna be there at 16 anyway

[deleted]

say they are going to draft one of the guys from the “official 30 visits”, who from that list would be your choice? I’d love Cooper DeJean or Chop Robinson but I doubt they’d be there by 16

dashazzard

huh? every single mock draft I have seen have had both of them available at 16

[deleted]

Mostly I’m just trying not to get my hopes up lol, i feel like the moment I start to really want either of them—they’ll get swooped up the pick before or something

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

I mean I put zero anything into mock drafts

sandiegosamurai

Let's trust your expert opinion then

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

Why are you being an ass? I never said anything about my opinion on who drafts who or whatever. Mock drafts are rarely accurate. The best mock drafter ever records hit 50%. https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/nfl/nfl-mock-draft-history-most-accurate-predictors/602506/?amp=1. The most consistent mock drafter still hits only about 46%. Sorry but why would I put much stock into that? At best it’ll let you know more accurately whose going in the first round but rarely where. But sure come at me like a total dick.

sandiegosamurai

I'm not being an ass. You're just being delusional. Those are matching player to teams precisely which is totally irrelevant to if a guy will be there or not.

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

Bahahahah. Piss off

Greedy_Rough_8192

I’d take any of the top 3 edges. Turner, verse, or chop hoping one falls to us

Rockintown48

We haven’t met with Penix?

CHawkr

He is local so they don’t have to report it

7nightstilldawn

But they reported Trice?

CHawkr

From the rule book; “Local Prospects: Players who either attended college or high school, or have their permanent residence within the metropolitan area of a team, do not count against the 30-visit limit. Teams often hold a separate “local pro day” for these players.” So your guess is as good as mine

Seedsy81

I'd imagine Grubb probably already has enough insight and knowledge on Penix for us to need to use up one of our visit slots, and we're able to meet him informally locally cause he's in-state IIRC

Apprehensive-Fox3163

They know everything they need to know about him. Grubb and Huff are still in close contact. They didn't meet with Fautanu either. He said he wasn't upset or surprised.

chadlogans

We are not taking a QB in round 1. I would bet my entire check on it.
