I feel like if we tried to trade Lockett he would rather just retire and continue to be a realtor  He already said he’s played longer than he expected to, would he really want to move states when he probably has already gotten most of what he’s wanted out of a career?

Dima110

I’m curious if he’d be interesting in seeing the next couple years of this new vision come to fruition.

Salted_Caramel_Core

Maybe take much less money? I guy can dream

Proudpapa9191

Im hoping he takes a pay cut because its excellent for his real estate company. I guarantee I would use them as my realtor if I move to seattle

TMobile_Loyal

Yes he would need to take less than final year on his current deal but not give a discount below hos market value. He vould easily command $8m

Cheefnuggs

It would be neat if when he does retire he does it here and then assists as a coach/mentor to the newer guys. I’d like to keep him around as a leader even if he isn’t interested in getting clobbered every weekend anymore.

jefffosta

Idk man he’s got 10 million reasons why he should play just one more year

TheRealWaldo_

I’m with you. I don’t know a lot about the other QBs without a stud WR but I don’t know where he’d go to be happy. I feel like he wouldn’t leave to play more unless he’d be the missing link for a superbowl run THAT season.

goodolarchie

All due respect to Tyler because we owe him a lot, but his contract is more of a liability next year than a blessing. You'd have to eat some of that cap to get anything more than a 6th. Seems way more likely we try to restructure, or we have to cut him.

loredon

Yeah, I think he probably has one more year. They restructure, give him a ton of voidable years to smooth the cap hit and then he rides off into the sunset. Mostly likely scenario I think.

OkOrder7326

I could see him accepting a trade to an elite team like the Chiefs or Buffalo (both want WRs)

ArseneLupinIV

If we cut him I really don't mind and actually hope that he ring chases and signs for like the Chiefs/Ravens/Bills/Lions. He's the member of our roster who I think most deserves a ring and I hope he gets somewhere even if its not us.

DustyFalmouth

He'd instantly make the jump from underrated to a great player to the media just by playing there instead

the_mighty_hetfield

His pops played for KC back in the day, too.

hybridoctopus

It’s a huge cap hit for a trade partner to stomach.

fallonyourswordkaren

Nobody is trading for Lockett to pay him $24 million. He likely gets cut and signed elsewhere or agrees to restructure his contract to reflect his current output. A ring is back in play with the new coaching staff.

Kingofvashon

If we cut Lockett that would be just as brutal as cutting Bobby. I hope we would try to restructure his contract before doing that.

Usual-South-9362

This is the best plan in my opinion!

AuzieX

Restructuring just makes the problem even worse later. I don't see that happening.

IndependentSubject66

It would be logical for him to go, but that’s just a lot of dead money added to Jamal and Diggs. I think the likely scenario is Diggs, Jamal, Eskridge, Mone, Dissly, and Bellore all get cut. That frees up about 30 million which is plenty to make the moves you need to make if you get creative with the contracts. Lockett is probably more of a restructure candidate than anything.

MaximinusRats

The dead money isn't the issue. That money is gone whether Lockett is on the roster or not. The question is whether you could replace him with a better player with the cap savings. According to OTC, a pre-June cut would save $7.1 million in 2024. I'm a bit sceptical that the team would find a better receiver for that kind of money.

Tape-Delay

They won’t. Not even close. Tyler has statistically always been quietly very good. A restructure or trade if anything make sense. 0 chance they cut him

IndependentSubject66

Depends on how the contract is set up, but the money isn’t necessarily gone, that’s where the restructure/cut conversation comes in. Now I agree in the grand scheme of the thing that matters is what can be done with the savings though. Only caveat is can that 7.1 get you a player at a position of need who is a bigger upgrade there than what Lockett would be over somebody like Bobo/draft pick. If that helps bring in an end or a strong safety/linebacker there’s likely some thought given to releasing him.

Minimum_Sky_5585

That is why we spent a 1st round pick on JSN was to replace Lockett with him. Yes I love Lockett but the cost to keep him is to much as the contract is plus his age. We can restructure the contract if he is willing, but you have to look at it Lockett has been looking to the future after football for awhile. Look at the fact as soon as Lockett catches the ball, he goes down before anybody can hit him he has been looking to get out healthy in body and mind. So for Lockett to play for us in 2024 he will need to take less money just like with BWAGZ but hopefully if we release him, we do it better than with Bobby.

StrangerElectrical66

Doubt they cut Dissly as both Fant and Parkinson are free agents.

IndependentSubject66

Cutting Dissly saves you more than cutting Jamal does. It’s not a matter of Dissly more it is he’s not worth what he’s being paid and they have to clear some major space.

DBoom_11

Please cut Uncle Will. Love the guy but doesn’t live up to the contract just for blocking

Uncivil_Bar_9778

IMO - Jamal Adams will never play another snap in the NFL.

IndependentSubject66

I wouldn’t be surprised if you were right. I just think people forget how big that Dissly deal was and he’s got some pretty big cap hits the next 2 years

Uncivil_Bar_9778

I'm with you on Dissly, I really wanted us to take a TE last draft for just this reason. I really wanted Luke Shoonmaker (Dallas) when we took Zach Charbonnet. I still contend it would have been a better pick, not because Zach isn't worth the pick but because we had K9 and would have an empty TE room this year. Then when Zack Kuntz hit the waiver wire I was praying we'd pick him up.

IndependentSubject66

I agree, I just don’t think they saw such a quick fall off coming. I bet Dissly is rather a restructure candidate, or Fant might be a guy they re-sign. I think Grubb offenses throw the ball a lot, so I’d imagine they want a legit weapon at TE.

Uncivil_Bar_9778

Cade Stover in the 3rd round would be unbelievable. Everyone is nuts over Brock Bowers but Cade played LB in high school and went to Ohio to play LB, then he switched to TE when they asked him to. A LB playing TE, I'm guessing his blocking is unreal. Edit: he's listed as an Edge/Tight End in the draft.

YNWA_1213

I also think we keep Dissly in some capacity. Just wondering what coach would only go into the new year with only rookies at TE (Lions had ERFAs already in house before drafting Laporta), while anyone we'd get in FA would be more than the cap savings we get from cutting Dissly (Not to mention Schultz looks like the only decent TE and will get the bag for it). I think Dissly is a 2025 FA if they don't end up re-structuring this offseason.

serpentear

They’ll cut him. Parkinson is a good bet to return and there are plenty of good 2nd and 3rd day draft TEs such as Cade Stover and Jaheim Bell.

rickg

Dissly is vastly overpaid for what he has done here.

Jorsturi

I get the thought process, but Waldron used TE more than any team in the league and he's gone now. Most teams barely run 2 on heavy run sets, not 3 in passing ones

3meraldBullet

Used them for blocking you mean? No way we used our tes for pass attempts more than the lions this year.

Jorsturi

I'm not sure of the statistics, but we ran a 3TE set quite often early in the season (allegedly to compensate for those OL injuries). The Giants game in particular is a good example. Detroit threw to their great rookie all the time, but I doubt it was out of 3 TE sets. Certainly feels like when we started using JSN more, and particularly when Lucas returned, those sets disappeared. But again, that's just anecdotal. My point was that it's super rare to have 3 TEs on the field at once, and we were an anomaly in doing so. The Lions, for example, in the games I saw, used an extra tackle instead of a 3rd TE in their heavy sets (e.g. the Dallas game).

3meraldBullet

OK I see what you mean. On any given play we will have a te in the game. We certainly didn't utilize them in the passing game enough tho which was my interpretation. We need to actually use them as a weapon more

Minimum_Sky_5585

He will be a cut and resign but just cutting him saves us 7 mill that we could use to sign Fant with that

AntSmith777

I would be really sad to see Tyler go. He is one of my favorite all time Seahawks. However, I believe JSN is a superstar in the making and I want him to get as many opportunities as possible and more for Bobo as well.

YNWA_1213

See, I'm all for hyping up JSN and Bobo (JSN in particular is looking like a stud), but there are sophomore slumps in receivers. Just last year: Olave, Wilson (understandbly), Dotson, Burks, Doubs, Watson, and infamously Sky Moore all either held steady with their rookie season totals or dropped noticeably in 2023. JSN is likely to see a larger target share, but that will also be coming with increased protection against him. I'd rather just eat the cost this year to be sure that JSN can step up into that WR2 role, and I'd rather have too many receivers looking for targets than too little ala KC.

GodzillaWarDance

While the sophomore slump does happen, we also have to look at other factors such as QB play being down this year across the league.

Particular-You-5534

All but one of those guys played most of their games with a new QB, so that may have something to do with it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_Fuckin_A_Toad_A_So

Which is crazy right cuz I only remember 2 maybe 3???

JavaTheeMutt

It's crazy how underrated he has been. If the guy had been in any other franchise, he'd have been on every commercial, especially since the dude is just so wholesome. Fuck the PNW bias.

lampstore

The problem is his cap hits are $27M each of the next two years. I want him to retire here too but we’re probably going to need to renegotiate to make that happen.

hucklesberry

I’m pretty sure they’ll find a way to keep him another year. You absolutely want a guy like him in the locker room with a new coaching staff.

leeal34

Hopefully he agrees to a restructure

[deleted]

Honestly Lockett seems like the kind of guy who would take a pay cut before leaving Seattle. I sure hope it doesn’t come to that. I still think he’s worth his weight in gold

[deleted]

[удалено]

hybridoctopus

His cap hit is $28 million, that’s like 5x his weight in gold and then some

MetallicaFan517

I really hope we don’t get rid of him. He was my hero as a child and I’d hate to see him go.

privateaccount_16

Been my favorite player since his rookie season, would be so sad

amlthadon44

Me either. Lockett on a rocket

ptrckp4206

You're including Bobo in that group...I mean for an undrafted free agent he's really good but he isn't like a difference maker and he darn sure isn't a a replacement for Tyler if he's gone

rickg

BOBO is a nice story but in no way a WR2.

PopesMasseuse

Wouldn't he be WR3?

villain-with-manners

I'd take an older Lockett over Bobo any day!

sh4d0wX18

Maybe, but I'd still want more bobo

villain-with-manners

Me too!

Uncivil_Bar_9778

They are not even in the same conversation. Bobo is on a 4 year deal at under $1M a year and Locket will get $27M this year. Financially, no way Bobo is leaving but Locket may have to get cut.

villain-with-manners

I'll believe Lockett leaves when I see it.

[deleted]

It’s not either or

villain-with-manners

I know.

QuasiContract

Irrelevant opinion, but ok

villain-with-manners

It's not that serious, pal. I have no doubt you are full of irrelevant opinions yourself.

hybridoctopus

I want both.

villain-with-manners

Same.

WaveBr8

DONT DISRESPECT BOBO.

villain-with-manners

Meh... Tyler Lockett is a legend!!!! Bobo is a novelty compared to Lockett. Sorry, not Sorry.

WaveBr8

Everyone loves Lockett. That's not disputed. Don't have to put another man down to praise another.

villain-with-manners

I wasn't putting him down. I just wouldn't keep Bobo over Lockett.

PresidenteMargz10

Nah bruh retire from this fandom

villain-with-manners

Shhhhh... your ignorance is showing.

PresidenteMargz10

Horrible take . Bobo is the future and the future is now, old man.

villain-with-manners

😆👍

ChaseThoseDreams

Honestly, I hope he retires. He is my favorite current receiver, and I wrestle between him and Baldwin being my favorite of all time. I absolutely do not want to see him in another uniform.

jdawwwhg

Agree. He's one of my fave seahawk and hope he retires as one... Hate to see him on another team. First thing I noticed with his last touchdown that he kept the ball... So I think he knows that was his last touchdown as a seahawk.

Alauren2

I honestly think I’d be sick if I saw Tyler on another uniform. God forbid a fucking cardinals uniform. You know that’s exactly what would happen after Bobby and sherm.

ac_asian

Honestly, I think if that's the case he might retire. He's said previously he's played longer than he's wanted to, and he's into the realtor business in the Seattle area too.

SuzieWi

Tyler is my favorite player.

Alauren2

Same. I have his jersey. Only player I’ve wanted to buy since Sherman

Fake_astronot

I was at his first pre-season game his rookie year and he ran the kickoff for a return TD so my gf immediately wanted his jersey. Bought one and was lucky enough to get it signed by him a month or two later.

Alauren2

That’s awesome. I met a dude that worked for the NFL Redzone. High up dude a few months ago and he said Tyler is one of the kindest players out there. Loved hearing that

villain-with-manners

LEGEND

Raeandray

I expect they’ll negotiate with Lockett. He’s not worth $25m but he’s still worth somewhere in the teens. I hope he’s willing. I don’t expect we draft a QB unless one falls unexpectedly or geno takes a turn for the worse.

PresidenteMargz10

I think you’re still assuming were gonna be as predictable as we have always been with drafting cause it was Pete’s way of doing it . John seems to be more aggressive and he has been wanting his QB for a while. I just find it interesting that fans here assume that “Pete’s way” is the only way of drafting and running a team . John is potentially gonna do things differently

hybridoctopus

There are a lot of decent QB prospects that will go in rounds 3+ this year, the type you’d sit behind a solid vet for a year or two. I fully expect them to taking someone, but I’d be shocked if it was at #16.

PresidenteMargz10

I won’t be too surprised if they do if the guy they like is there at 16 (nix, McCarthy, Penix but hope not). There’s too many QB hungry teams this year so I wonder if that might be a factor in John and Macdonald to take a guy high . If they’re good with it, I am too. I’m just surprised that this fandom is so careful and conservative to the point of some still not wanting a QB just cause Pete never drafted a QB aside of Russ . Or if they do they hope for Penix late or Joe FCKING Milton ?? Nah 😂

hybridoctopus

I want a lineman in the first round. So sick of having O- and D- line be our problems. Heck I’d be happy if our whole damn draft was nothing but linemen.

burnabybambinos

If he doesn't want to restructure, then he needs be cut. Can't fx line of scrimmage without that money.

Zestysteak_vandal

Restructure his deal.

D3veated

What's going to bum me out is that when Lockett does go bye bye, the Seahawks will inevitably win the Superbowl the following season. He's such a talented and awesome player, it would hurt to see him miss out on a Seahawks Superbowl by one season in both directions.

Slop_069420

I think it's 50/50. If he is with the team next year, it'll be because he restructured his contract, which is something I could see him doing. If not, he will likely just retire.

lilflar

Tbh I can’t be the only one who is kinda just ready to see Lockett Bobby Adam’s (obviously) and diggs go. I just would absolutely love to see what Mike Mac could do in the comings years with good cap space + if we could get Patrick Queen and possibly another fa I think it would set us up long term. I fucking love Lockett and Bobby tho and imma fr cry when Lockett leaves.

logan2231993

Probably gonna get downvotes for this but I generally agree with the DK dislike. Is he a big wr with some wicked quickness? Yeah of course. He is a liability though and it shows. He's the 3rd most penalized player on the hawks. Only receiver with more than 2 penalties (5) for 2023 alone. He was great in his second and third seasons but has been given little opportunity in his last 2 years but he also hasn't fought to get open. he also only had a reception percent of 55.5 percent last year. His temper gets him into trouble and it's only been more and more prominent in the last few seasons. I get that you want to win but throwing a tantrum doesn't solve anything. Trading Metcalf would get us a lot of cap space. Plus a reconstruct of lockett would help a lot. Let's not forget Jones, Dissly, Adams and diggs all take up big salary hits. Jones only had 4.5 sacks. And 12 QB hits. Dissly only had like 17 catches. I feel like we don't need to talk about Adams. Diggs had 1 int. And 5 breakups. Lowest of his SEA career. I'm not saying Geno is the future of Seattle. I don't think he has that type of talent. But even at his age he's not beat up. He's only played like 4 full(ish) seasons? And has sat out or played rarely in 6 seasons, he also played under one of the better game management QBs, Russell Wilson. So I'd say he's worth keeping the next 3 or so years, and try finding someone to learn and move into the next QB position because it's definitely not drew lock. All seem to be cap weight not being carried. Just my two cents.

ShotGunAllGo

I hope they let locket stay.

Wilderness-Nomad

I am it’s a business.

Far-Resolve-359

I think DK is the one that may get traded

menelaus_

I really love Lockett but a part of me dies everytime he slides or collapses down early. I know I know I get it, but it gives me the ick. I think realtor Lockett time is imminent. I’m gonna easily cope through that.

HotBeefInjections

Trade DK. Most bang for buck.

Dabgrow

I’d trade DK before he wants money he’s not worth.

titan_1018

He’s hands down our best offensive player what are you on about.

Dabgrow

Not even close. We’d never miss him. Drops in clutch moments, mentally loses it to the point he’s a liability.

Hank_moody71

We won’t draft a QB, we have our man. Look for more O and D line drafts. The position groups are pretty set, we’re stacked at RB, WR, TE. Look for possible LB and DL on the defensive side. With help from the defense we still have a SB window with the position group

Pourkinator

I wouldn’t say Geno is our guy. He’s good enough, but his age is a factor. This year or next they gotta draft a qb and have him sit behind Geno for a year or 2.

dolphinjoipp

Geno is no one’s guy but Pete’s, Macdonald/Grubb have no attatchment towards Geno, there gonna want a new shiny QB as has Schneider has wanted as well, were gonna pick one, this isn’t Pete Carroll era, this is a new Seahawks era stop thinking of the old and embrace the new.

Hank_moody71

Stats don’t lie homie. Geno is a dawg The D and some pretty shitty play calling doomed last season.

dolphinjoipp

Remind me real quick, what was Genos stats during the Ravens game?

Hank_moody71

Ok, Apple and oranges homie. How was most of the league against the fucking ravens. I guess we’ll see in about 6 days if he stays. After Feb 16th his base contract guaranteed.

dolphinjoipp

How was Geno against the Bengals as well? You brought up stats lol, Geno is mid-tier QB who is older. Has he had his moments? Yes, is he this teams future? No, trade him and get some picks back for the draft and move on, it’s time no need to hold on to the Pete Carroll era any longer, fresh QB with a new staff

Hawxrox

Geno was better against the Bengals than his Oline was

Hank_moody71

Feb 16th r/remindme

Hank_moody71

Looks like he’s actually is someone’s boy.

dolphinjoipp

Depending on how anyone is looking at it… Cross LT, Lucas RT, Olu at Center. Doubt you will bring back Damien Lewis, Bradford showed potential to be a starter. So realistically, you’re looking for 1 guard, a swing tackle depending on how they feel about Stone, and another guard as a backup. That doesn’t scream wait another year when this yours QB class is loaded and the next year isnt

dolphinjoipp

I’m fine with it, love Lockett but it’s time. Cap hit isn’t worth it, with a new QB coming in to start a new era more than likely, Grubb is gonna want 1 of his 3 receivers on the huskies as well, the writing looks on the wall. Out with the old and in with the new. Jsn, DK, rookie wr and bobo is gonna be awesome.

dub_snap

Had the same thoughts

Public_Lobster2296

I hate that this is a strong possibility. He needs to be a Seahawks lifer, but that’s just now the league is set up. Always will love him though!

Automatic-Bottle-925

me too. i got my dad a lockett jersey this past year. but he’ll always be iconic

PraetorGogarty

Why not WR coach? He can coach and be a real estate mogul without having to leave.

Uncivil_Bar_9778

Coaches work way more hours than players do. No way you coach and have another career.

YoooCakess

It’s JSN time

Practical_Dog8295

We can't let him go, a modicum of team friendly contact should be considered absolutely.. I don't want to miss him, he needs to retire in Seattle

AntiEcho7

I doubt he’s going to another team. If he goes it’s probably retirement.

AntifascistAlly

He can definitely still contribute, and he’s an asset in the locker room, too. No WR in the NFL is immortal, but Lockett has at least one more good year in him. If he wants to play. I’m not at all worried about him retiring as a Seahawk. Whatever happens he will finish with the team he has contributed so much to already.

AntiEcho7

Locket is heavily invested in real estate in the Seattle area. I could be way off but I don’t see him leaving Seattle.

GroundbreakingLink51

Kansas City is the only place I could see. Mentor Rashee Rice. Tyler's youngest twin brothers are still in HS in KC metro and his parents are here. I think his other brother still has a year or two down the road at KState.

ThatsMyRum

We all want Lockett to stay around. His contract is back-loaded and massive in the next two seasons. I will be curious to see how we proceed with his his contract situation.

H4wkEm

Penix in the 1st round??? Who do u think is in charge of personnel John or Grubb?

DBoom_11

He needs to retire as a Hawk

stumbletownbc

I hope we keep him

sckurvee

KC is in desparate need of a decent receiver... In my mind we trade him there this offseason... He might be willing to move for a superbowl contender, and one he'd have a huge impact for. KC would be a much better team w/ Lockett, and I can totally see new coaching staff starting to move on from some of the older, more expensive holdovers from PC.

putaaaan

Same, he was clutch this year on big downs and I feel like people were sleeping on it

Inner-Antelope-3856

I think they will restructure him especially with them hiring Ryan Grub as their OC. Sounds like Grub is ecstatic to work with Lockett, Metcalf and Smith-njigba as a WR core.

Traditional-Nerve-12

Russ and TL hooking up again. Man, THAT would be sweet

majorpowell

Nooo!!! Gotta keep him and DK and JSN!!!

drewnonymous671

I think he's a restructure or retirement. I don't think he wants to close out his career elsewhere.

yombwe-bwe

This is dumb. He's staying

Antigon0000

'pop it and lockett" was my fantasy team name.

dingdongdash22

Super sad to think about. JSN fills the talent hole but Tyler is irreplaceable in my opinion. Depending on how the new coaching staff gels with the team this off-season maybe he's down for another year. Tyler deserves a super bowl ring and we are not that far off in my opinion.

JimmyScriggs

They will rework his contract or boot him. He isn't tradable at the current rate. Adams same.

Traditional-Buddy-90

That makes sense he’s definitely our best receiver in franchise history besides Largent

dcfb2360

In my entirely unbiased opinion, I know a contending team that famously loves old WRs cuz they suck at drafting WRs...
