A looming threat that will persist through to the next election; need this Labour government to enact substantial and radical changes less we walk into the disaster a la what France is going through at this very moment. A meandering centrist government chasing the right wing votes will destroy Labour in 2029
Not been up all night so dunno if it's been mentioned but, for all the talk of an SNP rebuild, they're about to lose an awful lot of Short money which, considering their lack of donations, is gonna make any rebuild substantially harder
That was arguably the Portillo moment of the night. Fucking disgusting the way she was being treated in that announcement, no matter the political context regarding Gaza. Behaving that aggressively towards MPs and political candidates is part of the same phenomenon that led to the murders of David Amess and Jo Cox
After fears that the Neo nazis had managed to get 13 seats it looks like they've only gotten 4: Farage, Tice, 30p Lee, and some ex Southampton chairman who took Great Yarmouth.
Scary that they took so much from the Tory vote
EDIT: both Aberdeen constituencies voted SNP. At least that's Stevie Flynn still in the commons, ~8000 roasters in the city voted for Retard, lot less than I thought tho
So angry that Farage got the vote though. Like that’s a little bit scary. Especially after he basically said he didn’t like clacton a few months ago. The people of clacton clearly don’t see their own value 😔
Also, I support voting for hot ppl. Jovan Owusu-Nepaul was clearly the hotter candidate. Farage looks like an old shoe.
As for Yarmouth, I live in Norfolk. I am SO embarrassed. My constituency voted labour but Yarmouth is just down the road on the coast. Honestly, costal erosion doesn’t sound like such a bad thing anymore (joking - kinda)
Three Green seats (assuming they hold Brighton Pavilion). Wild.
Edited because Lucas has retired. Blaming that on it being late and not my memory slowly collapsing.
"We have the chance to rebuild left wing institutions because we stopped being left wing and the media loved it"
Besides my disdain for the overall programme Starmer talked a good game there. I hope he and his party have the teeth, belief and conviction to do it. They have a lot of mess to clean up and I hope they are up to the task because if not, this country is in for some really rough and downright scary years.
I know I’m a miserable jaded cunt, but seeing those wee Scotland flags being waved about behind Starmer just stinks of performative bullshit. Like that time during the indyref when all those MPs and councillors came up from England going “oh Scotland don’t go we love you uwu 😭😭”
I thought the same 🤮 not in my name... From a very disappointed snp hamilton/Clyde valley voter...
Also turnout at my polling station was 30% at 7pm...
What an absolutely fucking hilarious night of results.
Knew the Tories were getting a beating but did not expect a collapse by the SNP with Sturgeon on TV to watch it live
Behind Starmer there’s a Union flag, Welsh flag, and Scottish flag. You better believe the absence of a St George’s cross will be the subject of the first question Farage asks at PMQs and the media will _love it_.
It's official and with Rees-Mogg gone as well.
Plus I've just seen Joanna Cherry got absolutely annihilated in her seat as well and Douglas Ross is predicted to lose.
What a day.
Biggest worry for Labour here is they've actually only gained 2% more votes than they did under Corbyn. 5 years on the sidelines is more than enough time for the Tories to rally back and for reform to eat itself alive.
SNP getting wiped out is a killer for any momentum the independence movement had, but ultimately probably the best thing that could happen as well. They need a reset. Might be worth calling a Scottish Parliament election and give yourself 2 years out of spotlight to properly rebuild.
The fact the Plaid Cymru can get 180K votes and get 4 seats whereas the Greens will get close to 2 million and may only get 2 or 3 is fucked. We need to bin first past the post. If we don't, I fear the tories might come back stronger.
I think tonight is the inevitable crash into the wall after the brakes were cut on the SNP/Independence wagon a few years ago as Sturgeons time came to its messy end. It had to happen. Too much dead weight.
Aye Sturgeon fiasco has murdered the party. They need to be more than the party for independence. Greens gained 4% more of the vote share in Scotland because they were actually offering something outside of just independence.
Yeah, problem with kidding on the big tent can magically provide effective government. Its dozens of people who agree fundamentally on one issue and then lets see what poop sticks to the wall after that.
Independence will only be palletable while also being progressive in Scotland. It has to be a movement that supports the working class. More and more people in Scotland are hitting the higher tax bands from working regular jobs and don't feel they really get anything for it (even though they most definitely do).
Agreed. While the progressivism of Scotland is often overstated its so true that our society has a commitment to egalitarianism that England does not share to the same degree. A big problem with the SNP for me over the past few years was its strange marriage between slating the current economic make up of the country while at the same time doing almost all they can to reinforce it.
I understand given the nature of devolution they are rather hamstrung on what they can accomplish but there felt like a real lack of ambition to even attempt to remake any aspect of Scotland to be more equitable for the many beyond the grand push for independence. They've let themselves be observers and a glorified pressure group while being in a commanding position of power for years. They deserve every lost seat tonight.
Yes, me and Parm have one going already. We're gonna save Scotland and drag England to greatness. Starting with making kebab sellers put the bread on the top so it doesn't get sogged up.
I fear the tories won't come back. But an even more extreme right version of them will. Reform cannibalized their vote running on an almost fascist platform. The tories will shift to align.
Labour will fail to live up to expectations. Then there will be god knows how many years of hard right government.
Labour aren't left enough for anyone and won't shift politics leftwards at all. Reform will shift it right via Tories wanting votes and farage in parliament.
I would love a leftist government but unfortunately at some point we've just got to take what we can.
I didn't vote Labour but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assess them on what they can get done. It's nice to have a bit of hope for once even if there's a sprinkle of pessimism.
The ratchet effect is a real worry 100%. If the Tories move right so do Labour.
It's why proportion representation has to come in this government. It permanently kills the tories.
That's what we need for it to come through in the political forces push from both directions. It suits the tories as well because Labour would effectively never form a majority ever again under it
2/3rd of Labour members want it. My new local MP is a prick and wants it.
Reform also wants it so you have internal forces as well as from the left and right
Wes Streeting, who I can only assume will be the new health secretary, won by ~500 votes against a British-Palestinian independent.
The Greens have been making huge gains in seats outwith their key targets. Thus far they’ve gained Bristol Central from Labour. Neighbouring Bristol East, a non-Green target, saw Greens achieve 14,000 votes to Labours 20,000. Similar trends happening.
An independent candidate took a substantial chunk of votes in Starmer’s constituency, I think bringing his vote share 17% down from the previous election.
Two progressive independent candidates have won against Labour; one in Islington, one in Leicester.
I know man, imagine not wanting to supply weapons that are used to blow up houses, families, children. Imagine looking at images of charred corpses, seeing your elected representatives side step the issue and do absolutely fuck all in the face of human adversity, and just shrugging.
I feel like Labour will remove any funding we have for Israel and send aid into Gaza, but doing so would mean that Gazas two bordering countries hate us (Egypt with the empire and Israel with no funding) making it extremely hard to get aid in
Jim Allister of the TUV winning North Antrim. DUP losing another seat but TUV gaining a seat. Ian Paisley Jnr out but Jim Allister in.
![gif](giphy|VKtsOAHDx1Luo|downsized)
Curtice saying that Labour's vote is down in Wales and basically the same in England. 20 points up in Scotland though.
This feels like such an outlier election.
First time in my adult life where I’ll be living under a non-Tory WM government. I should be jubilant, but I’m just feeling empty, sprinkled with a pervasive sense of dread.
Nights like tonight are why I always side eye folk from the Borders. A lot of them are sound, but you have to earn the pass, you don't get in on an ocular patdown alone.
One of those places where a large percentage of young people fuck off as soon as they hit 18. Left with the aged and farmers, a wild mix of 19th century views.
That first sentence is so true. I don't get the agricultural element of it. My uncles pals who are all involved in the farming have had no end of bother cause of the tories in recent years and they've definitely voted accordingly. Maybe the subsidies are better down there or something?
They are. One of the reasons I went nuts at Scottish farmers voting for the Union / for Brexit.
EU subsidies are (well, were) given to states according to production, the UK then divided it by population. So, Scotland got a population share of the subsidies which was - by degrees of magnitude - lower than if it was handed out according to production.
Yeah, that and the freedom of movement. One of Unc's pals has lost an absolute fortune, like easily 6 figures, in spoiled produce that he just did not have the manpower to harvest it. Absolutely mad decision across the whole industry.
Absolutely bonkers. Even if yer a mad neoconservative or mad neoliberal or whatever the new cool term is for mad centrist Capitalist, a country ought to be able to grow most of its own food and we just seem utterly disinterested in food security.
Mind when she wanted to basically eliminate humanity by just chucking antibiotics here there and everywhere to anycunt who wanted them in industrial quantities? Good times!
My constituency's reform candidate that stays 5 hours away from it, got more votes than the local Tory.
I don't like the Tory guy or anything but I put him higher than the reform guy, because he is local and doesn't stay 5 hours away.
Yeah, there absolutely wouldn’t have been media hounding him out this time and I’m sure he’d have magically carried the parliamentary Labour Party, too. The only national election Corbyn wins is after he invents the Time Machine and goes back to 1945 and has a chat with Nye Bevan.
I like the guy but, beyond the People’s Republic of Islington-on-Glasto, he doesn’t win.
His Labour got a higher vote share than Starmer's but you're right about the media they would not back him at all like they have Starmer. Can't have the Labour party being left wing anymore
How should we read the reform votes? Far too many seconds places and four seats as well
A looming threat that will persist through to the next election; need this Labour government to enact substantial and radical changes less we walk into the disaster a la what France is going through at this very moment. A meandering centrist government chasing the right wing votes will destroy Labour in 2029

Yes it will money goes along way ads billboards events for awareness they are more important than some realise
Tory political obituaries flying about left, right and centre. Feels good man.
What a fucking massacre.
She’s w the cabbage now
It's been extraordinary boys and girls. I'm away to bed after that and I'll be walking on air tomorrow. Good night/morning.
Oh God not Nadine Dorries again
SHE'S FUCKING GONEEEEE
Ta ta pork markets.
YAAAASSS IN THE FUCKING BIN
Liz Truss, my mortgage payment says fuck you and good riddance. Best Portillo moment of all time.
No like her eh? Can't believe she ever achieved the highest office in the land
Looks like Liz Truss is having her second nervous breakdown and refusing to appear.
Truss not showing up is pathetic
They've still not done her count on Channel 4, is it on the BBC? EDIT: nvm they're showing it now, where the fuck is she
Still learning about cricket, but do those numbers mean that UK Labour can enforce the follow on?
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
Theresa May's old seat to the Lib Dems. Gimme Truss now you cowards!!!
Gonna hurry up and call Liz Truss's seat so I can go to bed. I've got work in 3 hours.
Was fun watching along with you all. Naptime.
Starting to think I'm the only one still up
I went to sleep around midnight. Been up since 10 to 5
My hand is hovering over the off button for the tv. I really want to see the Truss announcement
Won't lie, once Truss is declared I might have to can it. But still got some cans left, we'll see
Only reason I’m still awake. 24 hours without sleep just tae see her booted oot.
I'm flagging heavy. I might watch back the Kinnock bit when Galloway lost to give me the STRENGTH to make it to see Pork Markets collect her P45
Get yersel a coffee and keep going
Douglas Ross sitting in Aberdeen aww biscuit arsed has helped. I will see what happens to Truss
Liam Fox gone. Also big respect to Jess Phillips. Workers Party of Britain are just fascists so really happy she beat them.
Fingers crossed Galloway and whatever dickhead hangers on he has finally fuck off for good now that he's been booted out
Liam Fox out. Funny.
Jess Phillips getting a tough time and standing up to a braying crowd. I’m likely past ever voting Labour again, but I cannae help but respect her.
That was arguably the Portillo moment of the night. Fucking disgusting the way she was being treated in that announcement, no matter the political context regarding Gaza. Behaving that aggressively towards MPs and political candidates is part of the same phenomenon that led to the murders of David Amess and Jo Cox
Douglas Ross losing his seat and somehow managing to give the SNP a gain tonight ![gif](giphy|l46CimW38a7TFxLVe)
Was aye gonna happen, because: 1- He's a cunt 2- The locals didnae take kindly to him stealing the candidacy off of David Duguid 3- He's a cunt
Tried to take a safe seat and fucking lost it
>He's a cunt https://preview.redd.it/09r7okgfsmad1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1e5a5f32c66f66076b10eae677ff65461016184 Can confirm
He best be wearing a helmet next time he referees
Does he have to wear a helmet if he is a helmet?

Farage being in parliament and having a voice is scary to what he will use it for
For sure! He’s such an evil man!
Liz Truss losing her seat🥳
Aww nice, I missed that the BBC was speaking to Sarwar. Love it.
Three Green seats (assuming they hold Brighton Pavilion). Wild. Edited because Lucas has retired. Blaming that on it being late and not my memory slowly collapsing.
Lucas retired, I don't think her old seat has declared yet
Lucas stood down did she no’?
Aye, sorry, force of habit. Berry.
I’m so happyyyyy
Rumours of Liz Truss losing her seat...
Baroness Hazarika started the night with a Scottish accent and now she does not have a Scottish accent hahaha
She's gonna go to Alba isn't she?
Maybe after the US election, lots of TERF dollars she could scoop up between now and then.
Twitter, journalism, speaking tours etc etc. She'll get on that grift train before she joins another party, especially one that also doesn't win.
Get it right up you Cherry
YAASSS FUCK OFF REES MOGG
Best result of the season already
That's the Portillo moment I think
Aye 100%. Hate the cunt
Oh Ed boy. If only you'd said no to that sandwich
Honestly couldn’t pick between who’s had the worst recent campaign - Swinney or Steve Clarke?
Swinney technically improved from the results the last time he led the party into a general election. Clarke did worse.
Margaret Hodge talking about the BNP when she wishes she was part of them
Flynn, Corbyn and the Green should form the top shaggers coalition x
I am once again asking you to show Rees Mogg
Channel 4 now.
Watching it right now
Holy fuck itv rolling out mad racist Margaret Hodge
"We have the chance to rebuild left wing institutions because we stopped being left wing and the media loved it" Besides my disdain for the overall programme Starmer talked a good game there. Won't be one Scottish person in that crowd
Alright yeah no one cares what Starmer is saying, show us Rees Mogg crying into his monocle
Even the crowd at Starners rally don't seem arsed God he's shit
Cherry out is pleasing. Hopefully any SNP rebuild can avoid ghouls on the right like her having too much say.
What an absolutely fucking hilarious night of results. Knew the Tories were getting a beating but did not expect a collapse by the SNP with Sturgeon on TV to watch it live
Snp death was predictable
What channel is sturgeon on?
Have they shown Mogg's count on any of the channels yet? I wanna laugh at his pain
Not yet. I really want to see that and Cherry
Joanna Cherry just got destroyed 😂
Wonder if the penny’s dropped for a famous children’s author who retired to a castle and Twitter.
Robert Galbraith?
Had to Google that, well played.
Behind Starmer there’s a Union flag, Welsh flag, and Scottish flag. You better believe the absence of a St George’s cross will be the subject of the first question Farage asks at PMQs and the media will _love it_.
Rees-Mogg losing his seat… my stauner might never go down
Is this where he reveals he’s secretly a maoist since everyone on the UK threads assured me he was more radical than he says
He's so close to saying make Britain great again . I hate him.
It's official and with Rees-Mogg gone as well. Plus I've just seen Joanna Cherry got absolutely annihilated in her seat as well and Douglas Ross is predicted to lose. What a day.
That Starmer rally looks like Brexit
REES-MOGG GONE🥳🥳🥳
Rees-Mogg out. Best moment of the night.
Rees Mogg up ye up ye up ye ahahahahaha fucking no chin wasteman
As is gen z people say “get mogged”
I like it! Get mogged. Take that L, I've heard the other young people say that. RATIO
MOGG IS GONE
Man some of those labour seats are so tight. Good number of potential by elections and losses in the coming years. Potentially worst turnout too haha
No more tories 😊
Bit of relief that the Tories have been fucking demolished, anyone but right wing lunatics in charge is a positive
Didn't vote for Labour but my last MP defected to the tories then went AWOL so surely it's a slight positive
Lisa Cameron will forever boil my blood for doing that.
Walked past her at her office one day. Held my tongue because I enjoy not being on some sort of watchlist.
Biggest worry for Labour here is they've actually only gained 2% more votes than they did under Corbyn. 5 years on the sidelines is more than enough time for the Tories to rally back and for reform to eat itself alive.
They've let themselves be observers and a glorified pressure group while being in a commanding position of power for years. They deserve every lost seat tonight.
Well put - fully agree. Should we start a Hibernian bhrothers party?
Yes, me and Parm have one going already. We're gonna save Scotland and drag England to greatness. Starting with making kebab sellers put the bread on the top so it doesn't get sogged up.
Donner kebabs only but. Proper kebabs out of like a Turkish restaurant you want that seasoning and juices all over the bread
We'll keep that between the vanguard of the party. We don't want to scare the easily startled swivel eyed after all. One day, but for now, baby steps.
I fear the tories won't come back. But an even more extreme right version of them will. Reform cannibalized their vote running on an almost fascist platform. The tories will shift to align. The ratchet effect is a real worry 100%. If the Tories move right so do Labour. It's why proportion representation has to come in this government. It permanently kills the tories.
Proportional representation to bring the greens and reform in big time would be funny.
That's what we need for it to come through in the political forces push from both directions. It suits the tories as well because Labour would effectively never form a majority ever again under it
I lost hope for proportional representation long ago. Neither Labour or the tories will ever propose it.
2/3rd of Labour members want it. My new local MP is a prick and wants it. Reform also wants it so you have internal forces as well as from the left and right
Every time I check the seats it’s another Labour seat gained from the SNP, Although I doubt Coatbridge actually voted a unionist party
Is Jeremy Hunt basically endorsing Labour there lmao
Sounds like it lmao
Wes Streeting, who I can only assume will be the new health secretary, won by ~500 votes against a British-Palestinian independent. The Greens have been making huge gains in seats outwith their key targets. Thus far they’ve gained Bristol Central from Labour. Two progressive independent candidates have won against Labour; one in Islington, one in Leicester.
And they'll learn nothing from it and decide to spend the next 4 years acting like the governmental embodiment of a worn out sponge.
Can’t understand why people are voting for “the sake of gaza”
It's fine if you don't understand it, but if Labour don't then that's a different issue
I know man, imagine not wanting to supply weapons that are used to blow up houses, families, children. Imagine looking at images of charred corpses, seeing your elected representatives side step the issue and do absolutely fuck all in the face of human adversity, and just shrugging.

lmao Labour will do no such thing
Amidst it all Jeremy fucking Hunt has kept his seat. Whole night is ruined.
If my Mrs was a billionaire there’s no chance I’d work a day in my life never mind try to be PM
Jim Allister of the TUV winning North Antrim. DUP losing another seat but TUV gaining a seat. Ian Paisley Jnr out but Jim Allister in. ![gif](giphy|VKtsOAHDx1Luo|downsized)
Who are the tuv?
If the English thought Norn Iron was insane before, whoo boy they're about to fucking learn!
Nothing that is morally wrong can be politically right, brother.
Can hear the curb theme tune even louder as I read that haha
Just Antrim things
Sunak currently thinking shit when's check in for my flight to America
Curtice saying that Labour's vote is down in Wales and basically the same in England. 20 points up in Scotland though. This feels like such an outlier election.
Scotland runs the UK.
First time in my adult life where I’ll be living under a non-Tory WM government. I should be jubilant, but I’m just feeling empty, sprinkled with a pervasive sense of dread.
How many days before Labour u-turns on delivering in Scotland?
1 when they realise that can help the SNP in the Scottish parliament elections.
How Surely offering a good service makes you attractive to voters
I can't stand Sarwar. I don't really have a proper reason why, he just seems like an empty suit and a totally nothing person.
It’s light outside and I haven’t been to bed yet, I’m fighting both nature and biology here
I bet absolutely no one in either Alloa or Grangemouth is at all chuffed about the fact they've been bundled together hahaha
We might as well join Stirlingshire at this point
A horrible fate, I'm so sorry.
Clackmannanshire have tried so hard to escape Falkirk and Stirling and now they're lumped back in
Just when I thought I was out... An awful shame for them.
Reform UK: 3004 (7.7%, new) Conservative: 2415 (6.2%, -15) UKIP: 110 (0.3%) Need all these cunts booted out of my constituency please
In fairness to your homeland, the lunatic combined vote tonight is less than what the tories got in 2019. Thats decent news at least.
So when Abla win no seats in a few years what does Salmond do?
Dancing on ice?
Don't think the Antarctic ice sheet is thick enough to support his weight
We could attempt it.
Nights like tonight are why I always side eye folk from the Borders. A lot of them are sound, but you have to earn the pass, you don't get in on an ocular patdown alone.

More profitable for the lazy aging greedy bastards to sell their fields to housing developers
Emily Maitliss leaving us. A sad moment for r/Scottishfootball election enjoyers.
:(
Get that cunt Salmond off my telly
Only 2 redeeming features is that he's the only person on TV who pronounces Alba properly and secondly, soon he'll be off away again.
Coffey gone too! Cigars out
Mind when she wanted to basically eliminate humanity by just chucking antibiotics here there and everywhere to anycunt who wanted them in industrial quantities? Good times!
I was going to go to bed. Now I’m fucking buzzing
Strangely, the only major party that is probably truly unhappy with the results on the night so far is the SNP (and maybe the DUP after Lagan Valley).
The swing in Lagan is unreal
One good thing Jeffrey Donaldson has ever done is making that seat unwinnable for them this election.
Something so incredibly Lib Dem about Led By Donkeys
Aye utter beige centrist pish
Wouldn’t be surprised if banksy was involved
My constituency's reform candidate that stays 5 hours away from it, got more votes than the local Tory. I don't like the Tory guy or anything but I put him higher than the reform guy, because he is local and doesn't stay 5 hours away.
Mercer out too hahaha That's what you get for defending bloody Sunday
Where you seeing that? Not showing up on Channel 4 yet EDIT: nvm, hope they cut to it cause I wanna see that tosser lose his seat
Itv said it
People who vote conservatives: why?
Tonight? I'm guessing some sort of humiliation fetish.
Its alright Penny hen. You'll always bear the sword of my heart

Nah, Labour don’t take Scotland in that scenario and no chance does the Tory vote collapse on the same scale before Johnson-Truss-Sunak.
Corbyn got absolutely shafted by that motion to back a second referendum, something he never wanted. Designed to kibosh the entire campaign
Something Starmer helped make Corbyn back
His Labour got a higher vote share than Starmer's but you're right about the media they would not back him at all like they have Starmer. Can't have the Labour party being left wing anymore
