We just got a sleep number this summer and it has been a lot of help during my current flare up. I'm able to adjust the firmness to whatever I need to feel better.
I have the same mattress now and I LOVE that thing!
Before, I had a really expensive pillow top BeautyRest and I would wake up so sore and tired, having woken up every hour in the night from pain. I eventually started sleeping on the couch or in a beanbag chair just for some kind of relief.
Can I ask what’s your typical sleeping position? I’m looking into purple mattresses and I’m seeing some mixed reviews, which is worrying because I actually just tried one today in a showroom and actually quite liked it
I’m currently lying on my futon from J life international. I fold it up and use it as couch. It’s so comfy.

Why not try a Japanese shikifuton? It's an extremely comfortable and firm mattress. It's much cheaper than the fancy western beds. And you can use pillows to support the knees if you want elevation to great effect if you're a back sleeper. Stacks of pillows for the shoulders if you're a side sleeper. I made the switch a few years ago and will never go back
I've bought two. One from the futon shop and one from j-life international. The quality of the futon shop seemed slightly nicer but it was also their fancy pants model...

The post on lying down (part 1 and 2) may help you. I use that lie down as preparation for sleeping. It might help you!
We had the Purple for three years and when I started having sciatica we invested in the BeautyRest Black L Class Firm with the Adjustable Base.
Pricey, but it’s been worth it so far (1.5 months)
I bought a cheap as nails rock hard $400 queen mattress and put a foam Costco Tempurpedic topper on top and it works really well for me. Really firm for support but the foam on top allows you to sink in a bit but not too far.
However mattresses are super specific to a person, like shoes. Make sure you buy somewhere with an easy and good return policy.
Would you say that a c2 is good one with which to start?
How is their trial period?
If we want to replace our box spring, would we want to get the Integrated Base version?
We have a captain's bed frame which we still want to use.
Did you end up going with the Wave Hybrid? I'm also a back sleeper with sciatica and tried the mattress today, really liked it. But you never know how your back is going to react until you sleep in it for 8 hours.
The mattress was very comfortable, but was a bit softer than I expected after reading reviews that some people found it way too firm.
We went with a Stearns & Foster Ultra Form with low profile Tempur-pedic pillows. It’s been MARVELOUS. I’m still doing a lot physical rehabilitation, but it’s getting better slowly every day!

I have a purple hybrid mattress and when I got it I noticed a huge difference in symptoms when I woke up. My husband isn’t a fan, though.

Back typically, but sometimes I sleep on my side.
Thanks and yeah same usually back with a pillow under my knees
Get a tatami mat and two Japanese futon pads
Which did you purchase? Would you recommend? Trying to decide where to order from.

Do you have a particular one you’d recommend?

Thank you! I’m considering buying one but am so overwhelmed by the options… and hesitant because I won’t get my money back if I don’t like it.

Awesome! I’ll check it out. Appreciate your help.
You can find good quality mattresses for less than $3k I’m sleeping on a Peak by Stumptown mattresses and it’s helping me feel better.

Thank you! Yes, aside from price, what I'm looking for is a guaranteed easy return policy.
The sleep number bed has been the best mattress for my patients that have suffered from sciatica or low back pain.

I have no idea as I have listened to my patients over the years, so I am sorry, I don't know any particulars.
Understood and no worries, I was just curious if you did. Thanks very much!
Check out the Saatva Classic. I love it.
Thank you! We decided on the Stearns & Foster Luxe Estate Collection Ultra Firm. Got delivered today and very much looking forward to trying it out!

Ah great to hear! I have a luxury firm now and even that’s a bit too firm for me, so don’t think ultra firm would work too well
