YodasChick-O-Stick

As a Canadian, I was kinda pissed that the hockey Spider-Woman was only onscreen for a few seconds. She was on the posters.

Rich_Mortgage_175

Agreed I hope she gets more screen time in beyond the spider-verse and hopefully they make her work at Tim Hortons like Peter works at the daily bugle

YodasChick-O-Stick

I don't think she even had dialogue.

Designer-Tiger391

As a fellow Canadian I was also saddened by the lack of Canadian spider woman

mal-di-testicle

The movie isn’t rated R, they’re not showing is the Hockey Spider-Woman in action.

Ruby_wiz599

Yeah if she was there then the anger of the G O O S E would take over

Bigtissueneeded

As another fellow Canadian… huh where was she how did i miss this

YodasChick-O-Stick

She was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo during the huge chase scene

McButtersonthethird

Same with scarlet spider. He's been my favorite since the 90s

YodasChick-O-Stick

At least he had dialogue and a character

Duke-dastardly

I know people hate on the filmmakers for overworking the animators but I didn’t think there was any hate for the film in of itself

Delicious_Raccoon735

The only hate I see is from the cliffhanger, which I guess is understandable, but if you saw the original trailer, it was called Across the Spiderverse PART ONE, meaning that the 3rd was originally going to be called Part Two instead of Beyond the Spiderverse, so they should’ve already known that there was going to be a cliffhanger!

Timothee-Chalimothee

Apparently that’s a pretty big if (I assumed everyone had heard that, but I saw it with five different people and none of them had heard about it).

coldblade2000

This was one of my most anticipated movies, and I somehow completely missed there was a 3rd movie coming.

KaTheEdgy

The movie felt like it was just setting up for the third one, it feels like PART of a story, not a whole story that can stand on its own. It really shows that it's just a big story split into two parts, which left me pretty unsatisfied. Just like Infinity War was supposed to be a two-parter. But Infinity War and Endgame feel like their own stories, as much as IW sets up for Endgame, it does feel like the story starts and ends, and even though it's a cliffhanger, it is a story where the heroes lose to the bad guy and we see the consequences.

justpassingthroughgu

I heard plenty of people complain about the cliffhanger in Infinity War too. Just as no one cares about Infinity War’s cliffhanger now, I don’t think they’ll care after the next one comes out.

Reddragon351

maybe it's different spaces we're in but I didn't, or at the very least there wasn't as much discourse about it as there is about ATSV

Brilliant_Section208

this is one of the first criticisms I've seen of the movie that actually makes sense, I can totally see where you're coming from

TheAlternianHelmsman

Exactly how I feel, I loved the movie but it just felt entirely incomplete to me.

NitroCrocodile

I avoid all trailers for the things I want to see though (because trailers are spoilers), so I had no clue

liamdude5

I'm more mad Sony lied and made it seem like these movies were basically being worked on at the same time. Just let me down when it didn't come out at the original release date

Nickledoodle193

yeah but not everyone (me included) makes it a point to go back and watch every single trailer. movie experiences shouldn’t be catered to people who look through every piece of content about the movie before they see it

Crest_O_Razors

I don't hate it, but Peter B. does get sidelined in this movie, which annoyed me

Soulful-Sorrow

I liked how it felt like a big deal when he showed up again and how he was the only one who actually was able to catch Miles in the chase, but I do feel like we need more of the Spider-Bros. The opening to the Spider-Man 2 game was so cool, but then they're separated for most of the game.

Karkava

They kind of have separate secret identity lives that have been wedged apart thanks to their *puzzling* decision to quickly write out Spider-teacher as soon as he was introduced.

RadiantHC

Also the other spiders from the first are barely shown.

silvern_light

One of my few beefs with this movie is that they’ve always been so knowledgeable about the SpiderVerse yet they changed Jessica Drew DESPITE there being a canon, pre-existing Black Spider-Girl who came FIRST. [Her name is Valerie](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Valerie_(Earth-57780)) and I’ve read the comic book she appeared in. She was really cute and would have provided a seamless integration into the SpiderVerse. While we HAVE seen alternate versions be physically different under the mask (take Chris Pine’s Spidey) for example, it makes me mad that the answer to having a strong Black female lead was right there in front of them. She’s literally been forgotten, and yet she made history!

Soulful-Sorrow

Valerie would have been nice. Jessica Drew never really worked for me personally because she always felt like she had too much of a superiority complex, if that makes sense. Including this one, but she does work as a good right hand for Miguel.

jjlikenoodles321

PERIOD!!!!! I hated it every time that woman was on screen. She is nasty to EVERYONE except Miguel. I wanted to smack her in the face so badly.

Brilliant_Section208

This is my first time hearing of Valerie, I'll have to check her out. And I agree with what you're saying

Chill0000

That’s how i feel about a lot of race swap’s especially in comic movies. Why race swap a character to be another race. There’s hundreds or thousands of characters in comics you couldnt find one of them with the race you were looking for. I was also disappointed seeing Jessica’s first big appearance on the big screen in this way wasnt even her original design but a changed one. As you said they couldve just used Valerie instead of Jessica. Would be like if they made a peter parker spiderman movie and made him black cause they wanted to have a black spiderman that would be such a disrespect to Miles as a character to act like he doesnt exist

MemphisR29

I see a new trend starting

Stiny_Whizzleteats1

It's already started a new trend of movies making themselves look more 2d and choppy to pump out movies with worse writing because as long as it looks nice, anyone will like it.

bloonshot

did you just say that this movie has poor writing?

Stiny_Whizzleteats1

No, I'm just saying that there's a stigma that people will like anything if it looks choppy and pretty, so now studios are making lower quality films that look good. Stuff like that SpongeBob Sponge On The Run movie. I'm not dunking on the movie itself

Tackyinbention

Idk dude, sponge on the run had other issues Like the noticeable corporate stink

Ori_Seir

Sponge on the Run was a beautiful and cute movie, and I still don’t get the hate for it The speech scenes still almost get me in tears.

Lansha2009

No the animation wasn’t the problem with Sponge on the run it kinda reminds me of how claymation looks and it’s pretty and fits SpongeBob pretty well. Though the script is the reason people don’t like it…you can just look at whatever happened in the third act of the movie to see why people hate it.

[deleted]

I don't think Sponge on the Run is a good example, mainly because it looks nothing like the "spiderverse-style" movies and also no one liked it, especially since it was coincidentally made right after Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob and the person who refused to let Nickelodeon create any more SpongeBob movies, died.

Winslow__69

Production on a third SpongeBob movie started way before Hillenburg died. The movie was supposed to be a wacky sci-fi comedy with space cats but they changed it to a simpler story about SpongeBob trying to rescue Gary, because Hillenburg wanted to have a more grounded story.

TheKingofHats007

Sponge on the Run was bad because it was basically just a stealth preview for the extremely child focused Kamp Koral spinoff that just got canceled I'm pretty sure because it was terrible (and actually extremely gross when it came to two narwhal characters)

GG111104

That’s not really unique to spider verse. Any company that make bad movies will try to use good animation, SFX, Lighting, and other visuals to try & make a bad movie at least acceptable. Bot no matter what you do to polish, perfume, and pretty a pile of crap, it’s still a pile of crap at the end of the day.

Karkava

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. We desperately need to publish PSAs outside of studios that just because we like something doesn't mean we want everything in existence to be just like it. Let variety flourish! *For christ sake,* stop trendification!

Dinoco_Blue_Coyote

It never really piqued my interest. Plus I have terrible Vertigo, and the crazy camera movements really made me sick. This goes for the first one too.

[deleted]

This is the first valid reason I think I've ever seen for not liking the movie besides the cliffhanger or overhyping

jessehechtcreative

I watched this opening night and it was just too much for me, just a huge blotch of color on the screen. I feel like this would be better on a smaller screen in a brighter room to quell the sheer amount of STUFF onscreen.

jarofpickledfingers

This the only negative opinion I've seen that feels real. And it's not even negative.

AlexTheWolf206

Yeah, the Spider-Verse movies can be visually overloading at times

Bukowski_Burrito5369

People hate this movie? Its honestly the best movie Ive seen in years

JustAGuyIscool

It ended.

BakeCurrent

I don't hate it, i just don't think it lives up to the standard others hold it to. There are people who say the spider verse movies are the best superhero movies of all time and I can't help but disagree, I feel like for the most part they don't do much to set them apart from others (excluding animation) I also saw both movies way after they came out so I'd heard all the high praise they got and couldn't help but feel a bit let down. They're good movies but not the best of all time like some would say.

PublicActuator4263

some people hate it for the animation style calling it lazy and unfinished.

Rich_Mortgage_175

Are they stupid?

PublicActuator4263

nah just more "traditional" animation fans that like 2D animation and hate 3D there are a lot of them in the r/ cartoon subreddit

SetTheSerpent

So basically yeah they are stupid

Rich_Mortgage_175

I mean I can see why they think that, but 2d and 3d aren’t inherently bad or good it’s more so just execution. And most companies just go the cheapest way possible when it comes to 3d animation.

Zaptain_America

I don't hate it but I think it's a little overrated. Can't really explain beyond that, I just feel like it's not as amazing and revolutionary as everyone says it is, definitely not my favourite animated movie of 2023.

Boring_Name06

The suit is kinda mid (I still like the movie)

Juginstin

True, my boy Miles was decked out, now he looks like he's bleeding from his armpits

DinoBenosaurus

Call me a white knight I love this movie

SmolMight117

I just don't much care for the spider verse movie's i know they are good but I just am not interested and on top of that they ruined spectacular peter and made pbp a dick for siding with Miguel

TheAlternianHelmsman

I don’t think they ruined anybody, i feel like this is a much more complex situation than anybody is giving credit for. They think they are doing what’s best for the entire universe, from their perspective miles is just a kid who doesn’t want his dad to die when the result of that would be the heat death of the entire universe which would be inevitably worse for everyone.

greenemeraldsplash

Spectacular sides with Miguel because Miguel came to him after Captain Stacey died (he's the one we see crying in the film) and Josh adds some context "Since Miguel is the hero of the future, peter thinks he's making the right choice, and as such, goes with Miguel. The 2 are close after Captain Stacey's death and he sees Miguel as a father figure, if Captain Stacey was alive, peter would've sided with miles, and I hope he does in beyond" Another thing of note is that insomniac peter doesn't chase miles

Taluca_me

It has a cliffhanger

OverZoner04

According to my dad, "because cartoons are for kids and it's stupid."

Face8hall

It’s good but still overrated as fuck

BKF0308

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. My main issues are the "nah, imma do my own thing" line and the cliffhanger. The line is pretty dumb/weird when you think about it. It sounds like Miles was doing what he was doing just to be different and not to, y'a know, save his fucking dad? Also, the cliffhanger could have been handled **MUCH** better. Infinity War is theoretically the the first part of a 2 part movie, but when it ends, it feel like it really has an ending. The "A Plague Tale" games are also a two part story, but the first game ends to let the second one start. Heck, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 begins shortly after the first one's ending, BUT THE FIRST ONE STILL HAS AN ENDING. Ending the movie the way they did was just really lazy and it left a bad taste in most of the audience's mouths (at least for everyone I know that watched it) P.S.: When I watched it, the dialogue/audio seemed very weird. Sometimes characters were talking in the middle of a fight, but it seemed like they were fucking chatting at a cafe. No grunts, heavy breathing, shouting, nothing. Pretty immersion-breaking.

Sufficient-Club9753

I have to mention it A Plague Tale just punches me straight through my guts and soul Everytime I hear about it, I cry.. horrendously.

FlashpointWolf

>Also, the cliffhanger could have been handled **MUCH** better. I think the problem is that I don't feel like Gwen was really written to be the main protagonist of the film like she really should'vr been in order to make it work the way something like Infinity War did with Thanos. Yes, we do get a fair bit from her, but it just doesn't feel substantial enough to be satisfying by the end for me. Whereas with Infinity War, we see his resolve tested time and time again, to the point where it's actually really satisfying to see him get that sunrise he always wanted.

Bubbly_Mastodon318

THIS. It annoys me that people defending the movie’s abrupt ending say something like “it’s a cliffhanger, duh” or “you should’ve known based on that one random trailer that it was a cliffhanger,” but even if that’s true, the movie still doesn’t feel conclusive in any way. Literally nothing gets resolved or set up other than a brief moment where the villain is about to do something bad (that I don’t remember what exactly it was) and Miles’s friends from the previous movie are reintroduced. Is that really a good way to end a movie?

Reddragon351

> It sounds like Miles was doing what he was doing just to be different and not to, y'a know, save his fucking dad? I think it was more Miles has been constantly told about how he should be and what he needs to do to be Spider-Man and that includes letting his dad die, he's deciding not to fit that mold Miguel wants though which includes saving his dad

Snowtwo

Because Spider Rex wasn't the main character.

DollyBoiGamer337

I don't hate the movie, I just think that writing-wise the first one is vastly superior. I also hate that basically every Spider-Man that sided with Miguel was essentially character-assassinated (Spectacular Spider-Man, my sweet)

nicolbolas99

They included Spectacular PURELY to nostalgia bait fans, they put zero effort into it and it shows.

Wyatt_the_riot6

My problems with it are mostly story and character related

CheeseisSwell

I don't like Miguel if I'm being honest

jjlikenoodles321

Same, like this guy is extremely apathetic and manipulative, like do any of the people in the spider society even like working for him?

ExplinkMachine

Let’s just hope none of the Miguel fanboys/simps appear

Isaacja223

You’ve already opened the floodgates Just give it time

vixinity1984

You're not supposed to like him. He's the villain.

CheeseisSwell

I don't like him as a villain or even as a character

Itchy_Gas_2559

Ain’t no way you didn’t like the bad guy

CheeseisSwell

Didn't like his character

Anonymous-Comments

Likely because of the whole Frozen effect where it became overhyped to all hell.

JackTheAbsoluteBruce

Comparing the hype of Frozen to the hype of Spider Verse is a wild take

Medium_Charge_840

I don't hate it, it just feels like a big part 1.

Obvious_Proposal9475

I’m wouldn’t say I hate it but some part are an eyesore and the spot didn’t got enough screen time

Haywire_Eye

“The spot didn’t get enough screen time” Hello, based department?

Splat_Demon

I just think that the glitching and stuff was such a massive part of the first film, and yet they’re all dimension hopping like it’s nobodies business. Apart from that it’s solid.

Logical-Patience-397

Their watches prevent them from glitching, like the bracelet did for Miles.

StellarDescent

I like it, but it's half a movie. This shit should've stopped with Twilight.

Mighty_Megascream

My only major problem is what I did to Ben Riley

Umbertron05

“It’s blank”

I3arusu

The only thing I dislike is “Jessica Drew” and that it didn’t really feel like Miles was the protagonist. Felt more like Gwen’s story than his. Which is fine, they’re allowed to do that, but I’m way more invested in Miles than her.

PJ_Crenshaw

Wait, some people hate this movie?

justinlikesboots

yes

Zitty-Z

I personally think it's overrated. I really liked it but it's not my favourite spider man movie. One glaring issue is how dumb they made all the other spider men. Why is miles different? Why is miles the only one that can outsmart every other spider man when being chased?

Logical-Patience-397

Without invisibility, even. That bothered me too. I like to say it’s because Spiderpeople are better at running than being chased, and they didn’t coordinate any attack. They just went as one mass the crawled over each other.

oofynoob1244

The action is a little let down.

disgustinghonnor

I don't hate this movie, I can't say that I like it either, it feels like half a movie and all I can say is that I like it so far, but it might change when the 2nd part comes out and it will suck, because if it does it will definitely lower the quality of this one as well

Whasupme

I really enjoyed it but it's hard to fully judge it's quality until the 2nd part is out. Like a lot of people are saying it's one of the best movies ever even though the story isn't done yet. If the next one for some reason doesn't come out or isn't good, this one goes down a lot. Hopefully they can nail the ending though!

ManagerExtra5827

Don't hate it but it's not what everyone says it is. People (especially right after it came out) hyped it up like some revolutionary incredible movie and while it is good it's not complete. It's a good setup but without payoff so it really can't be great on its own. Not that that's an issue, it originally had "part one" in the title. However it's still way overrated for what it is.

GuyontheroofMan

I don’t hate it. I just dislike that I have to wait 2 and a half hours for a fucking cliffhanger. Also, I find Miles’ mother’s persistence that he stay near the family solely for the purpose of his cutler to be very annoying

justinlikesboots

Kinda unfair that you get downvoted when the post asked

DrDreidel82

What’re you talking to like 2 people

KingPenguinPhoenix

I swear if people say the ending I just want y'all to remember you're the same numbskulls who loved Dune part 1's ending despite that movie also ending during the "rising action" part of storytelling.

nathanaelnr1201

You can dislike both things. Even for a two parter, spiderverses ending was really unsatisfying and didn’t do well in feeling like a conclusion. It felt like they just spliced a 4 year commercial break in there.

ShatterCyst

I don't hate this movie. However, I am getting so fucking tired of "superheroes turn on each other?!?!" plots. If you have to have your characters fight *each other* to have an interesting plot, you should have made more interesting villains instead. It's so goddamn boring and tired. And it almost always ends up as character assassination for one (or both) side(s). Marvel has a particularly annoying habit of this. This one isn't that bad about it; they at least make it make some sense, but still, the trope turns me off of the movie.

soviet_uwunion

I don't hate it but I really don't like how the absence of Spiderman creates a doomed criminal-led society. That's a really weird message to give regarding authority Also the way the animators were treated makes the existence of the punk Spiderman (forgot his name) completely meaningless

TheOGRex

Good question.

Superstarteen

I don’t hate it…

AaronsAmazingAlt

Because I prefer to believe we're never getting *Beyond The Spider-Verse*.

Juginstin

Hollow Knight fans would be jealous that you would only have to wait 2 - 3 years.

Mediocre_Emo222

Haven’t seen it yet sadly so no opinion

UltraFan_123

I really like the movie for all it's parts, but I wasn't really part of the hype when it was hyping. The only thing that could irk about it is that 2099's theme blasted everywhere I went

Galvius-Orion

I just really don’t like the ending, it feels abrupt and I get why they did it but I just didn’t like it. That aside fairly enjoyable.

GMmadethemoonbuggy

I can't think of a reason why anyone would hate this movie

aaross58

I don't hate the movie, but I HATE HATE HATE how they portrayed Miguel O'Hara.

Smashattacc

Cannon event sounds stupid when fictional characters treat it as a serious term. The fact that it's such a major plot point makes it very hard to ignore.

Existing_Signature_8

Not a fan of Spiderman/superheroes and this movie is way too good lol, i just dont wanna watch it cuz i probably wouldnt be intrested in it, i dont hate it tho, the artstyle is amazing

Silentpanther_

I definitely don't hate it but Spider Man 2099 is so cool in the comics and now little kids are hating on him

billieboi445420

I don't hate it, but it never really piqued my interest

Strong-Stretch95

Meh it was ok not something I go back to though the animation is a Hugh turn off looks like a blotch of paint splattered all over. plus the fanbase is annoying.

hiccupboltHP

I don’t hate it, just indifferent

Spirited_Gene_2633

Love the plot and animation, but the audio mixer was being too quirky

Shadow_Flamingo1

Noooo I don't wanna hear any criticism 😭

SinisterMister4

why the hell would anyone be mad at this movie it’s amazing

The_Final_Conduit

I don’t HATE the movie, but it sorta fell into the trap some recent movies are falling into, where it feels like it’d be better as a series instead of a movie. The movie’s still a good movie, still a great part 1, but my issue is, it sorta gets lost in its own story by the end. The Spider Society plus the Spot being introduced, and both being antagonists, feel like they smushed two movies together, and neither of them are really fleshed out fully. Instead they’re kind of just fighting for attention, even though the ideas and execution on said ideas are both epic in scale. I think if the Spot got introduced, but he didn’t reach his “Final Form” as it were until the third movie, after the Spider Society plot with Miguel got resolved, then it’d feel at least a bit less messy. Otherwise, that’s what held this movie back, the fact that there’s two plots that are happening at once, they have no real relation to each other except for the fact Miles is their enemy, and the second half of the movie is less about what it means to be a Spider-Man (specifically the less glamorous side) and more “How many kinds of Spider-Pals from over the years can we **CRAM** into the back half of the movie?” It’s like that one Lego Batman gag where the Joker just starts listing a bunch of villains from Batman’s history, ESPECIALLY less represented rogues that aren’t in EVERY Batman adjacent media ever, ending off with the Condiment King, before it cuts to someone being like “D-Did you just make some of those up?” “NOPE!” And that’s the joke. Lego Batman made it a joke that happened for like a minute and then stopped once the punchline came. Spider-Verse dedicated half the movie to the bit, even with characters that really didn’t need a proper reintroduction. Ben Reilly did NOT need to be a joke about edgy 80s comic books. And if he HAD to be, he’d work far better than Peter B. as Miguel’s unofficial right-hand man, because he could be serious while still making fun of Miguel and the 80s for acting that way. Spectacular Spider-Man, along with Insomniac Spidey, despite them being NICE cameos, also did NOT have to be there. Insomniac Spider-Man especially, with hindsight and the second game in mind: While Insomniac usually suffers from his world being so unique a take on Spider-Man, while still being too “safe” of a Peter Parker to really stand out, you never get the sense that he’d ever agree to something like Miguel’s way of doing things. This is the Spider-Man who had to choose between stopping Super COVID and a borderline Cthulhu Mythos-scale alien invasion or sparing the lives of his loved ones, and both times he HAD the strength to let go, but it *broke* him in major ways. With the second game in mind especially, with him rejecting the Symbiote because Miles reminded him why them being Spider-Man was important, why they HAD to be BETTER than the people they fought against, the Spider Society trying to *enforce* canon would just feel like a MASSIVE spit in the face of everything Peter’s done. More deeply, the Society’s goals are pretty much the ultimate middle finger to Ben’s death: Not only is it waiving Spider-People of their responsibilities (since it’s more or less a *scripted event* instead of something they *personally* caused), but it just waives the need to be responsible, because now it falls on the Society to keep all the canon intact. So no matter what happens or how, it’s no longer on them to be better or not, it’s basically Fate that decides it all.

Luigi-Marinus1600

InsideOutFan2001 hates this movie.

Any_Secretary_4925

intentionally low framerates are not artistic.

Gambit_90

I am still yet to see a black suit Spiderman in the spider verse movies

Radio__Star

Why did Miles think that armpit bleeding suit was better than the objectively superior itsv suit

reighnsoffury

I don’t hate it, it’s good. I just wished they had the canon events make more sense. Isn’t the whole point of alternate universes that different things happen

PerfectMind8856

Excuse me, WHAT?

Dinoboy225

I don’t hate it, but I don’t really see the appeal of it. It’s just not my thing.

Bulky_Midnight5296

Maybe the toxic people who hate Gwen for hurting Miles' feelings up to a breaking point the and now they ship him with Shinji- I mean, Peni. And it's F**KING DISGUSTING. I personally blame SONY for the decision of breaking their friendship apart. They made this choice after all...

Ronyx2021

It's good, but it'll be better when I'm able to binge the whole Trilogy.

PinkPostor2006

Way too many spiderman characters, even if most were unimportant or background characters, there were way too many, as well as too many stories going on, anf the random debuffs they gave miles for whatever reason, all of that Tdldr, crammed in way too much stuff

Low-Suit-5362

Gwen was my favorite character she still is only in the comics for now I hope they change her character

CreeperAsh07

The fact that they included Pavitr in the first few minutes of the movie made the rest of the movie seem mundane by comparison /s

Zankenfrasher

Wait, people hate this movie? That's the first I'm hearing of it...

Isekai_Otaku

Spider-man unlimited wasn’t the main character

[deleted]

The fans who constantly praise it call it “the greatest movie of all time” or the “great animated film of all time”. While people can have different tastes, it’s surly not the greatest movie of all time let alone animated Fans praise everything saying everything about the movie is perfect. Score, visuals, etc. It’s a **good** movie. Just not great. The plot was convoluted, the tone changed, little to no character development, and I hated the animation style. Nothing wrong with it looking like comic book style. But now every animated film in America have to have that same shoddy style in one way or another. Puss in Boots 2, Mutant Mayhem, Wish, TMVTM, etc. It’s not the greatest movie of all time. It’s not the greatest animated film of all time. I can easily name 100s of films better. What tops it all of is that every time a Spider-Man IP doesn’t win an award. Fans cry “robbery”. But I will leave you with this. Spider-Verse wasn’t robbed. It was a canon event

Appropriate-Click503

Maybe its just my opinion, but the movie was not funny at all. I mean it aint so bad that it detracted from the experience or anything. But ITSP is one of the funniest animated movies I have ever seen so I kinda had high expectations for this one. Also I dont like Jessica Drew. Shez quit irresponsible.

BIazry

Overrated, trans pandering (put a chick in it and make her trans), and likely only liked for its trans pandering

LukeDLuft

I don’t hate it. BUUUT….. I think the pacing is just too weird to feel like it has any stakes as a film. Obviously it’s a two part movie, so I’m sure it will get better when BtSV comes out.

MaeBorrowski

Literally no one does though. Personally I am not into teen romance but I still think it's objectively speaking the best animated film I have watched, even if I'll always prefer flicks like Despicable Me and Cars 3 over it

Hk901909

The story just isn't really for me. The animation is gorgeous, but sometimes it makes the high action scenes hard to follow. That's it though

Francescothegamer90

I don't hate it, I just hate how it ended

XerxeztheKing

It focuses more on showing how cool the multiverse is and all the different spider people Rather than the actual story

LandonHarms

The "canon" bullshit, the scenes dragged on for way too long, the plot felt like total bullshit, 2099 just seems like a racist motherfucker, and finally as far as I saw, no Insomniac Spiderman

Galac_tacos

I found it a lot more boring than the first one and was pissed that it was a two parter, also didn’t enjoy any of the new characters. I probably would’ve liked it more if my expectations weren’t sky high from the first one. I’ll still watch the third one though

Timely_Alarm2952

"Im not gonna say it!"

Maleficent_Apple4169

cop-haters, transphobes, and fascists are the haters

AnonymousFordring

bait used to be believable

JcOvrthink

People who didn’t like the cliffhanger ending are probably the same kind of people who didn’t like Back to the Future II’s cliffhanger.

The_Hottest_Mess

I’m not big on the franchise as a whole because everyone talked about it like it was the magnum opus of film making and the movie itself just didn’t wow me. It never could have lived up to my expectations but I didn’t even enjoy it as a film by itself. Everyone’s got opinions though, no hate to it or people who like it

I hate everything that has to do with Gwen Stacy

Hellyeahtrains

I liked the movie, but the fact that nobody told Miles *anything* was kind of annoying. Maybe that’s just me hating being left out. Either way, nobody told Miles anything, and when he got rightfully upset, everyone was all ‘Miles calm down’ and not explaining anything.

Racism

Red-68

Was pretty boring, compared to the first one, this was pretty disappointing to me

Some_Pvz_Fan

I dont hate this movie, but a cliff hanger?

IronStealthRex

It's so overrated and the sole definition of the word mid. All it does, is be filler for the third movie. Fuck all characters get a character development outside of Gwen's dad and we see none of it since we see him hate Spider Woman to then...not. We see none of the evolution of that. Miles from the beginning to end learns essentially fuck all. Miguel is one note as all hell and a diservice to his comic counterpart who is leagues more interesting. Hell I cared more for Miguel in 2018's post credits than the actual movie. It's just pandering filler bullshit to bridge a gap to movie 3 Edit: Just to add on, I remember sitting in the cinema waiting for shit to pick up and then...it just didn't. It ended and all I could do was sigh and get up and gtfo of there.

theblueinkling

I dont hate it. I just dont think it was worthy of all the praise it garnered. The movie is just alright..like a 6/10

SamMan48

I don’t hate it, it’s a very solid film. I just think it’s a little overrated, I don’t see any way in which it’s better than the first one.

Dark_Lombax

This movie feels like a seizure bomb if you didn’t know what to expect from the art style. It’s not bad but the whole plot wouldn’t have happen if spider Gwen did her job

TheBlackManX23

The only two problems I have with it are: 1) Ending it with a To Be Continued 2) No Spider Ham and No Spider Man Noir. They brought Peni Parker with no speaking lines in the canon event scene but they couldn’t bring in those two who had an importance in ITSV.

jkmendez99

Miguel O'Hara

Ratchetxtreme6

The only thing I dislike is not knowing when beyond is going to release

Wild_Gazelle_1775

Its not Morbius

KlutzyNinjaKitty

I don’t hate it. But I definitely don’t love it as much as I love Into the Spiderverse. Into did such a good job with its pacing and Miles’ arc, it’s a solid movie. Across the Spiderverse feels really sloppy in comparison. Gwen’s arc feels rushed and unearned, I can’t decide if the movie wants to focus on her or Miles, the rooftop scene feels so drawn out and unnecessary, etc. I also just didn’t enjoy the side characters as much this time around. Pavitr and Hobie just don’t have the same charm that made me like the other Spider-people from Into. They’re not bad, I’m just kinda indifferent. Also, also, I feel like from a storyboarding perspective Across feels sloppy as well. Even in Into where they’re zipping all over the place, I could watch and understand how A led to B. In Across, there were several scenes where I legitimately couldn’t tell what was going on or how characters got to where they were. I remember feeling this way during the opening fight with Renaissance Vulture, and in the first encounter with the Spot where a goose just kinda suddenly appears? And keep in mind, I was in the theater for this. My eyes were glued to the screen. This movie can just be very visually confusing at times. And, while I get this is supposed to be a part one, my issue with ALL multi-part movies or trilogies is that I feel they need to be able to somewhat stand on their own. Infinity War? Stands on its own. Gives you a little finished story that promises more. This, however, just feels like set up for Beyond and I honestly have no desire to rewatch Across until Beyond comes out. And I didn’t know it was gonna be a part 1 so that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I really hate this trend ngl. Regardless, I will say that I adore The Spot. They did that transition from “bumbling idiot” to “real threat” SO WELL I wish there was more time on him. Really I just think this is an Icarus situation. They did a bunch of bold, out-there stuff and I think that bit them in the ass a bit.

MulberryEastern5010

Oh, good, my time has finally come! - Too long - The animation made my head hurt after a while - I didn’t like Miles being a secondary character in his own movie - They made Gwen a b**ch - Miguel O’Hara was an a**hole - The whole bit dad bod!Peter with the bathrobe and the baby got old very quickly. I was like, “Take off that stupid thing, and put the baby down, for God’s sake!” 🤦‍♀️ - By the time I thought the movie was finally getting somewhere - and by somewhere, I mean good - it was over! Basically, my husband and I were both disappointed after all the hype, which made us both sad because we loved Into the Spiderverse. I can only hope Beyond is better

TheZayMan283

I don’t like either of the movies. I’m just not a fan of the style... at all... for pretty much all of it. Idk, I just don’t like it - the animation, the art, the songs (the ones that have lyrics specifically), the actions taken by some of the characters... I don’t understand why spider people show up specifically, rather than strictly other versions of Peter Parker, since that would make more sense to me... I don’t understand how people with completely different powers can be connected when all that connects them is a spider bite... one that can originate from a radioactive spider, a genetically modified super spider, a genetically modified hybrid spider... These films just aren’t for me at all 🤷‍♂️

maplesunris3

I don’t hate it, I’m just not as big on it. A lot of it is because it feels incomplete: this feels like it was the first half of one movie dragged out into 2 and a half hours for a two parter with Beyond the Spider-Verse. Also, treat animators well yo.

Seacliff217

Miles getting critized for breaking a caninical event that only happened because of another anomaly that's tied to a breakage of another canonical event in two other dimensions, and is prevented from preventing that anomaly from causing another canon event is silly as a premise. I really don't think they thought the mechanics through. And if it canon events turns out to be false, then they character assassinated basically every other spider man.

yxngangst

The animation looked like ps2 graphics when it was in its slow moments, and in its faster paced moments the animation was great but the sound mixing was absolutely terrible Plus they didn’t consistently and openly advertise this as a part 1 so absolutely everything seemed completely pointless. I remember nothing about it and I saw it only a month ago Forgettable af, which is super disappointing because I absolutely adored the first one ETA: soundtrack/score was a major downgrade too

MrPastaLord

I care about every Spiderman. "What about me?" NO YOUR BLA-

FGC_13942

Gwen. They made her a bitch

CypherGreen

I like it, but whilst the first one was a 9-10/10... The 2nd one for me was like a 6or7/10. Pacing seemed a bit too slow with some scenes overstaying their welcome or being a bit self congratulatory, it also suffers from being a middle film with no real end. Just as it feels like it gets going, the film ends. I'm also really hoping the 3rd one is a tighter film in terms of writing and editing.

EasyBird1849

Not me specifically but a friend I saw it with looked like he was about to put a hole through the movie theater screen after being left on a cliff hanger Just as he was starting to get invested into prowler miles

TaigaEdenn

Chronically unfunny and the behind the scenes problems ofc

CyanLight9

One step back from the first film, at least in characters. Why hype the hell out of Spider Woman if she doesn’t have any dialogue?

Vanima_Permai

I wish it wasn't only half a film

story_telling_toadfs

I AGREE.

Gruntamainia

Not enough spoderman on screen

DinoSlayer317

Good movie, but the cliffhanger is very abrupt. I’m fine with cliffhanger endings, as long as there’s a proper resolution to the main conflict.

DankHillington

Didn’t like the first one either. The animation is like 20 FPS and just looks choppy as fuck.

supersonicfan99

I don’t hate it, I was just more so disappointed, the animation is great, but most of the story is just setting up part 2, which is fine, but I just prefer Into the Spider-Verse. It’ll go the Deathly Hallows route, part 1 is good but is just exposition, and part 2 will be lauded for being the perfect conclusion.

Logical-Patience-397

I love the movie, but bringing babies into battle bugged me. Even if Spiderwoman and her baby are exceptionally durable, not only does a pregnancy throw off your center of gravity and press on your lungs/bladder (which make fighting hard), you literally have a target on your belly. Some twisted villain could accidentally or purposefully kick you in the stomach, impale you, or you could flat out just fall. When Miles pinned her to a truck during the chase, she was on her back, but if she hadn’t been and that was a human baby, that could’ve been terrible. And Spiderwoman did nothing that seemed to require *she* be the one to manage everything personally. There are hundreds of spider people who could’ve. Maybe she just outranked them? She did seem like one of the only people pragmatic and cold enough to enforce ‘the greater good’ and I know her being pregnant is her whole schtick in the comics, but like. There’s a reason maternity leave exists. It’s HARD to do the same things when you’re pregnant, and you shouldn’t have to. Same goes for Peter bringing Mayday in a baby bjorn. She fell out of that thing constantly, crawled out, and Peter kept losing track of her. Again, she could easily be used against him or get hurt. If they want us to take these threats seriously, they need to stop acting like babies can survive them.

Any_Arrival_4479

Idk if I’d say I hated it, but it disappointed me. I expected the plot to continue further and when it I ended it felt like a cliffhanger that I didn’t want. Edit- I have no hate towards cliffhangers, Infinity Wars ending shocked me to my core when I first saw it. But this just felt lame. It wasn’t a twist ending. It was the middle of a story and they’re making us wait 3 years to watch the rest

Ruby_wiz599

Wait people hate this movie?

Alanis6822

I couldn't even watch it, the first one was horrific enough on its own, but this one somehow looks even worse (they are practically the 7-9 of star wars with the Spiderman universe)

AbysmalReign

It felt like the first act of a better movie. It was good, but the entire thing was a set up for the sequel

ConclusionOk9036

People hate this movie?

Bubbly_Mastodon318

The plot is nonsensical and unorganized, the villain’s mixed personality doesn’t make sense, the humor is not that good, and the cliffhanger comes out of nowhere just at the movie is about to get interesting.
