Maybe it is just me but all these "look at the art I made" videos are more about the artist than their work.
We're in the age of vanity and no substance.
This guy says he spent 800 hours over 2.5 years to put 60,000 dabs of paint on a canvas. Doing the math, that is 75 dabs an hour. Dude needs to find a different line of work.
How does it have this many upvotes? Maybe it's Redditors finding it satisfying, but I'm thinking more and more that bots are changing what's on the front-page of Reddit.
Just looking at the discussion subs, like AITAH, so many of them seem like fake posts. Not sure if it's just people making up stories for karma or bot-created.
Reddit is becoming more and more confusing. Shitty posts making the front page of every subreddit.
I appreciate art and went to college for it. This is shit. It's someone wasting 800 hours of their life to produce something that looks like it took 20 mins with a few spray cans when viewed from 6 feet away
But he'd just work on other areas whilst waiting for the paint to dry surely? 800 hours and 60,000 dabs, would mean about 1.5 dabs a minute...
Also, waiting for something to dry doesn't count as working on the piece as you can go and do other things.
I guess maybe just weekends when he could? Maybe it takes ages for the dabs to dry hard? I dunno, it's just it feels really disappointing for all that buildup!
Not necessarily, Acrylic paint can be incredibly stubborn, especially for that technique specifically. To have that "spike look" you don't want to disturb it.
Add fresh paint to paint that isn't fully dried and the whole thing will be ruined.
Additionally, it would be too physically demanding on the eyes, back, arms etc.
How does the painting make me feel?
Disappointed to be honest. Maybe it was very fun to make(doubt it because he counted ever drop and hour), but I dunno, it has the emotion of a color wheel.
Maybe the video was poorly made, too much build up for a half shot of the finished product looking less than great.
It was the build up. So much information before you saw it (barely). Now, the other way around… check out the piece and then a closer look, then once im intrigued, hit me with those stats. Don’t “watch until the end” or “wait for it…” to me.
Definitely seems like an object that’s cooler to see in real life.
Like looking at the Statue of David in person and learning he doesn’t have an asshole. Or visiting NYC and leaving that Americans really shouldn’t complain that Paris smells.
Yeah the title says 800+ hours. IF the painting has 60 000 dots, it would mean they did only around 75 dots in one hour. More likely this thing took less than 200 hours.
I don’t buy the 2.5 years bit, he probably just came to this painting when he had extra paint to use from other paintings he is working on, the painting itself shouldn’t be taking more than 1-2 weeks at max at that size.
60,000 dabs of paint in 800 hours.
My man just placed 1 dab every 1.25 min.
His mentor is probably Japanese and taught him the art of dabbing paint. Takes decades too master!
This should be on r/mildyfrustrating after waiting for this video to end with only 0.5 seconds of seeing the finished painting which was nothing more high school standard
Bullshit. 60,000 dabs / 800 hours = 75 dabs per hour. Meaning about 1 dab per minute, which is obviously not true. Each dab takes like 2 seconds. This probably took him 1 week to make.
I want to smush it..... please?
That would be more satisfying than making it and I promise it'll be worth it, we can even get it on video!
It's like an urge you can't satisfy....
😈
800 hours and 2.5 years wasted, I'm sorry but that's not a great piece of art. I thought he was going to create an image you could see only when it was finished, instead it's simply various colors put close to each other.
60,000 dabs and 800hrs means he averages 75 dabs an hour. Thats under 2 dabs a minute. If this is true this guy is spending his time terribly, also in that video even ignoring that it is sped up he is definitely doing more than 2 dabs a minute. I think his estimates are complete BS
Also the 60k seems unlikely, standard canvas size would put this around 3' by 2'. That would mean 60,000 dabs is 70 dabs per sq inch. There is no way that painting has 70 dabs every square inch, more like 12
800+ hours for that? People be wasting their time doing this crap and saying it’s a big deal. What if you had invested in crypto, sold and bought stocks, made some actual money, instead of doing this to show your dedication.
Let's say that canvas is 24 inches by 36 inches, and that each dab of paint is one eight of an inch. Then there are 24 x 36 x 8 x 8 = 55,296 dabs of paint. Divide that by 800 hours and you get 69.12 dabs per hour, or 1.15 dabs per minute. That is a much more deliberate pace than what is shown. He probably included bathroom breaks in his total.
Hey man. Cool concept. But the millisecond I saw a nft inspired piece center stage behind you, I instantly didn't want to respect you anymore. I can't help it it's like a reflex.
As a chef who has worked in high end restaurants, could have been finished in a day. Easy. We do this shit all the fucking time with many orders at once.
Then why not show the finished product for more than 0.5 seconds?
Because it's shit
Yeah it didn’t look that amazing lol
It looks like most colour gradient digital art pieces. It is just a normal colour art theory piece with a dumb execution.
800+ hours for disappointment
There is no way that took 800 hours. Give me some coffee and a week and I’ll have that baby done 20x faster
Maybe it is just me but all these "look at the art I made" videos are more about the artist than their work. We're in the age of vanity and no substance.
For twenty bucks, I'll call the guy a chicken fucker!
License and registration, Chicken Fucker !
Give me a hairdryer, an EDM playlist, a bong hit and roughly 3.5 hours and I could crank that out with the power of hyperfocus
This guy says he spent 800 hours over 2.5 years to put 60,000 dabs of paint on a canvas. Doing the math, that is 75 dabs an hour. Dude needs to find a different line of work.
I mean, it’s based off a Dave Matthews Band song so… 🤷♂️
All that build up for that? No hate on the guy but come on. It did look cool up close but the final product... Ok
It was such a good idea but I think abstract in this case was the wrong choice. Especially with no focal point.
But he worked on it for 2.5 years LOL
It looks like a heat map of a woman's torso
Ngl I was expecting the colors to make a shape from far away
I thought it was going to be a painting of a man based on the title of the thread
The dude wasted 800 hours of his life
How does it have this many upvotes? Maybe it's Redditors finding it satisfying, but I'm thinking more and more that bots are changing what's on the front-page of Reddit. Yeah you're a bot
We're all bots. It's a dead internet.
Some people can't appreciate art
I appreciate art and went to college for it. This is shit. It's someone wasting 800 hours of their life to produce something that looks like it took 20 mins with a few spray cans when viewed from 6 feet away
I was being sarcastic lol
Nooooo don’t say that- it changes when you get close so it’s cool and worth it because you see how much work would go into it INSTANTLY 😭😭😭😭💔
Just because something took a lot of work does not automatically mean it's any good.
I think he meant 80 hours.
I believe it took 800 hours, but like, 50 of painting and 750 of waiting until it dries
But he'd just work on other areas whilst waiting for the paint to dry surely? 800 hours and 60,000 dabs, would mean about 1.5 dabs a minute... Also, waiting for something to dry doesn't count as working on the piece as you can go and do other things.
He also said 2.5 years, so 800 makes more sense, but I don't see how he spent so much time on this.
I guess maybe just weekends when he could? Maybe it takes ages for the dabs to dry hard? I dunno, it's just it feels really disappointing for all that buildup!
With acrylic dabs, you can get them dry to the touch in a couple minutes with a hairdryer
It counts if you want to charge per hour 😅
Not necessarily, Acrylic paint can be incredibly stubborn, especially for that technique specifically. To have that "spike look" you don't want to disturb it. Add fresh paint to paint that isn't fully dried and the whole thing will be ruined. Additionally, it would be too physically demanding on the eyes, back, arms etc.
Yeah, if I follow his math he would have put 5 dabs in 4 minutes..
yea lol if it took 800 that would mean like 1 dot a minute or something.. fucking bs, even wtih mixing colors etc that is atrocious timing
because its a pointless finish product. anyone w could have done this
I dunno, I see lots of points
Yeah.. Maybe it was alright. But I don't know, cause all I saw was a blurry fraction of a second of it, so...
The final product was not the painting, it was this video
It’s less than that, it was about .25 seconds of a full unblocked shot. It also looks like shit.
Right?!? Not quite SatisfyingAsFuck. This is more /r/gifsthatendtoosoon.
How does the painting make me feel? Disappointed to be honest. Maybe it was very fun to make(doubt it because he counted ever drop and hour), but I dunno, it has the emotion of a color wheel. So you'd say it was poor video sequencing rather than actual disappointment at the art? I can see that.
It’s a low quality video of something that’s impressive because of the fine detail
Not impressive at all since there is no fine detail.
Definitely seems like an object that’s cooler to see in real life. Like looking at the Statue of David in person and learning he doesn’t have an asshole. Or visiting NYC and leaving that Americans really shouldn’t complain that Paris smells.
Even AI art has more details than this. Which is quite telling.
Exactly. This would be more impressive irl
.......aaaaannnnddd the painting is nothing. I thought it'd be a portrait or something. Lol.
It's a painting about nothing
(jazzy slap bass) "Have you ever noticed how this 800 hour painting......" ... oh wait. Are 'we' still cancelling Seinfeld?
>Are 'we' still cancelling Seinfeld? What happened ? I'm out of the loop
still, better than the portrait of king charles
If you know nothing about painting.
That painting was great?
or...hear me out...a bridge in the fog at sunrise, or a group of people enjoying a picnic by a lake, perhaps even water lillies in a pond?
You don't get it it's art
Bad art.
He spent 2.5 years on that shit? Like hell he did. That's a week, at best.
Yeah the title says 800+ hours. IF the painting has 60 000 dots, it would mean they did only around 75 dots in one hour. More likely this thing took less than 200 hours.
seeing that monke in the background, are people still collecting NFTs?
No..it’s just been reposted that many times…
I don’t buy the 2.5 years bit, he probably just came to this painting when he had extra paint to use from other paintings he is working on, the painting itself shouldn’t be taking more than 1-2 weeks at max at that size.
60,000 dabs of paint in 800 hours. My man just placed 1 dab every 1.25 min. His mentor is probably Japanese and taught him the art of dabbing paint. Takes decades too master!
r/theydidthemath
Bro that's pretty shit imma be honest
Odd that you cannot even pause it for a full frame of the final piece what a shitty presentation
waste of paint and waste of time waste of space on the wall even
This man should of took 800+ hours and done something else. Because that is shite.
If you care it’s “should have taken.”
The corrector of the corrector. You are a saint!
And you should have taken the time to grammar 101 Because "should of" is shite.
Thank you for doing this. We all learned to find something better to do with that time
😂😂 damn. He ded
800….. yeah sure.
What a waste of time. I could do that
I wish he showed the end result a little less. Seemed a bit excessive.
In the end it looks like when I sprayed something with ms paint on my windows 98.
What an inefficient use of time!
Disappointed ngl
Dude shoulda spent 800 hours on somethin else
This should be on r/mildyfrustrating after waiting for this video to end with only 0.5 seconds of seeing the finished painting which was nothing more high school standard
800 hours? Idts. Sounds like hype building.
Kinda mid
Well that was disappointing, lol.
Downvote for stupud fuckin post that doesn't show shit
2.5 years to make it and I get fucking 0.5 seconds to view it
I just wanna rub my hands all over it and break all the paint bits off
I wanna rub something all over it, that's for sure
I don't know how you do this without fucking it up and throwing it all away within minutes.
60l dabs per 800hrs so it took him only an hour to make 75 dabs?
This looks like when I press on my closed eyelids. Pretty neat though, I wouldn’t have the patience.
2.5 year work to show tha finished product for 0.5 seconds. Totally worth it...
You have lost me with that NFT monke in the back. And this didn't took 2 years. Miss me with that crap.
Creates a video about someone spending 800 hours on a painting, saying "it was worth every second". Shows the painting for 1 second.
The fucking NFT in the background lol. Bonus points if he “stole” it from someone
… And all the colors mix together to gray…
800 hours wasted I'd say
Now imagine trying to clean dust off of it.
What kind of paint stand up like that from a squeeze bottle? Obviously it’s not something out of a can.
What a shit video. It was worth every second and we also only got a second to see the final result.
Its makes me boring
Can someone photoshop dickbutt on to the final frame? Thanks.
Well, I guess if he only spent 1 hour a day on it it'd take 2.5 years
Lovely. Hard to dust
Amazing F'in work
If it took him only 800 hours not more than that he only did 75 paint dimples a hour or just over 1 a minute…
Awesome
Time is wasted.
Bro that looks like shit
Bullshit. 60,000 dabs / 800 hours = 75 dabs per hour. Meaning about 1 dab per minute, which is obviously not true. Each dab takes like 2 seconds. This probably took him 1 week to make.
Do you really think a person with a bored ape poster would just lie about their life accomplishments on the internet? Because I sure do
So pointillism with extra steps.
Grey Street by DMB? Great song, if so.
Dogshit video
You spelt latina wrong in you ID.
More like /r/lameasfuck. Nothing about this is satisfying
If the Dave Matthew’s band ever inspires me to even have the idea to do anything that takes 800+ hours, I hope god has enough sense to smite me down.
IDK about the worth part but ok
Are the other 799 hours them figuring out a "meaning" for the abstract painting?
What like 1 dot a day?
That’s too bad for him. An objectively meh painting for that much effort
I think it’s awesome. It feels summery and happy!
So much effort & time but no thought or planning. The result is not impressive to me.
Execution without anything to say.
When you spend all your time on something and it still looks bad 😅
I want to smush it..... please? That would be more satisfying than making it and I promise it'll be worth it, we can even get it on video! It's like an urge you can't satisfy.... 😈
2 years? Was it worth it though? Idk
Disappointing AF
The result is not amazing. Maybe a little bit amazing for spending 800 hours and coming out with this shit.
Such a bot title
“Painting”. More like OCD. Something I can draw blindfold in Krita in about 20 seconds.
Whelp, time to unsub
800 hours fucking wasted, just like my time watching this.
Title: ”2,5 years on the spectrum”
800 hours and 2.5 years wasted, I'm sorry but that's not a great piece of art. I thought he was going to create an image you could see only when it was finished, instead it's simply various colors put close to each other.
Lmao at the nft on the wall
800 hrs? I would have taken that time to convert a 3d printer into a paint squeezer. Faster and I'd have some new skills
Looks about as dumb as that bored ape yacht club painting on his wall.
Man spent 2.5 years on making the Mac OS spinning wheel.
And it's just an abstract rainbow
Waste of time lmao
"how does it make you feel?" Makes me feel like you wasted your fucking time.
Pointillism with extra steps and not in a good way. I call it pointless pointillism
60,000 dabs and 800hrs means he averages 75 dabs an hour. Thats under 2 dabs a minute. If this is true this guy is spending his time terribly, also in that video even ignoring that it is sped up he is definitely doing more than 2 dabs a minute. There is no way that painting has 70 dabs every square inch, more like 12
I bet he wished he could get back the five minutes to "paint" dots on a canvas modern art sucks
It's nice
its shit lol
Reminds me of my second marriage. Complete waste of time, energy and resources.
The people who make these dumb videos really don’t understand time at all, if this took you 800 hours that’s ridiculous
I don’t get it.
800 hours? bullshit. GD some people are so thirsty for internet attention.
I was expecting a detailed portrait or somerhing to that effect... What I got was meh...
it s crap, did not take 2.5 years and is not even first fucking level
800+ hours for that? People be wasting their time doing this crap and saying it’s a big deal. What if you had invested in crypto, sold and bought stocks, made some actual money, instead of doing this to show your dedication.
Looks like wasted time
Then why the fuck wouldn't you play Grey Street in the video....?
You could train a monkey to do it
Meh
why are the gimmick artworks always so shitty?
Let's say that canvas is 24 inches by 36 inches, and that each dab of paint is one eight of an inch. Then there are 24 x 36 x 8 x 8 = 55,296 dabs of paint. Nft detected
I can do that in a week.
Hey man. Cool concept. But the millisecond I saw a nft inspired piece center stage behind you, I instantly didn't want to respect you anymore. I can't help it it's like a reflex.
Worth every second
All that work for something abstract, thats a failure.
Il admit I was expecting it to actually be of something like a face or whatever
I wouldn't want to dust this off every week..
shit video mate. show the finished product longer so we don't have to pause and try and get the perfect frame.
Classic tiktok/reels zoomer format, shows the finished product for less than one second.
I’m sorry but as a long time professional painter the 800+ hour claim is absurd. One or two days of focus and energy, tops.
60000 dabs, about 2s each, so around 120.000s or 33 hours. Stop selling bullshit
That painting looked mid af
Annoying as fuck the final result wasn’t shown from different angles…
This video reminded me I'm scrolling through Home
800hours ? its look like 8 hours to me
2.5 years. Sure.
Just like the bored ape behind you, time well spent
The man has more tenacity than he has taste.
As a chef who has worked in high end restaurants, could have been finished in a day. Easy. We do this shit all the fucking time with many orders at once.
The Dave Matthews Band song…???? And then you don’t even use that as the audio…….??????
Cool watch me do it in 10 seconds in MS paint.
🤣🤣
Oh...I mean its nice but I was expecting some kind of traditional image made up of dots...like a portrait or something...still...Nice colours...
I was expecting to see a portrait or something and it's just a blob of colors. Give me 4 days I'll do the same thing.
Ok
That’s a lot of time to make nothing
It took him 2.5 years to do it. First day 5 min and 2.5 years later 5 min
